  • Problem interfacing GSM USB modem to Java application

    I am working on an open-source application called FrontlineSMS which can be interfaced with GSM modems to send and receive SMS. The windows installer that is available through their website works fine. Since i wanted to modify it, I got the source code and built the jar and tried to launch it. When I plug in the GSM modem and launch the application, it sometimes detects the GSM device and i am even able to send and receive SMS. Or else 1.)   • Android -- Can't play any videos (mp4/mov/3gp/etc.)?

    Hello all, I'm having great difficulty getting my Android application to play videos from the SD card. It doesn't matter what size, bitrate, video format, or any other setting I can think of, neither the emulator nor my G1 will play anything I try to encode. I've also tried a number of videos from the web (various video formats, bitrates, with and without audio tracks, etc.), and none of those work either. All I keep getting is a dialog box that says: "Cannot play video" "Sorry, this video cannot be played." There are errors reported in LogCat, but I don't understand them and I've tried searching the Internet for further explanations without any luck.   • Windows 7 / Ubuntu Dualboot GRUB Problem.

    I'd like to first say ahead of time that I'm running a RAID-0 Setup. 1.First of all, I'm glad Ubuntu 9.10 installed flawlessly and detected my RAID-0 setup just fine. The issue I'm having now is that I already had Windows 7 installed and made a small 12GB partition for Linux/Swap. I grabbed EasyBCD 2.0 to edit the W7 bootloader and configured it to use dual boot Grub2 because before it didn't even show the option for Ubuntu. The bootloader points to a file made in the windows directory made by EasyBCD called "C:\NST\AutoNeoGrub0.mbr" which is what I'm guessing grub is booting from. After that I got the option for booting Ubuntu. The problem is that it's sending me to the Grub prompt (probably because it's pointing to \NST|AutoNeoGrub0.mbr?), at first I didn't know what to do but I researched and have to type grub commands to manually boot into Ubuntu Linux. Ex: grubroot (hd0,4) grubkernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6... root=/dev/disk/by-uuid/24624-2424... grubinitrd boot/initrd.img-2.6... grubboot After all that Ubuntu boots just fine, but how do I fix it permanently? Do I need to edit the bootloader manually (since Easy BCD "autoconfigures")? Some insight on this would rock! Also, it sucks to type the actual uuid since it's REALLY long. I tried getting the name of the drive via fdisk -l but since it's raid 0 I'm guessing I can't do that. How can I get a shorter name of the drive? like /dev/sda, /dev/sdb etc?   • Debian dependency problems / partially installed

    I tried to install curl support for php 5 on my debian squeeze machine and since I'm having problems. After trying to install curl I got dependency issues which I tried to solve by removing what started the issues. From one thing came another and I'm currently looking at ~29 issues when I try to do an apt-get upgrade. These issues vary from unable to config, dependency and unable to remove errors. I tried apt-get upgrade -f and installing packages using dpkg command. I tried removing using purge and force. I manually removed stuff to try and fix it. I tried running dpkg --configure -a. I've to say I'm still pretty new to linux so I'm out of idea's and cant seem to find an answer online that matches my problems.   • Android Remote Service Keeps Restarting

    Ok so I've built an app that uses a remote service to do some real time GPS tracking. I am using the below code to start and bind to the service. The remote service uses aidl, sets up a notification icon, runs the GPS and locationListener. In onLocationChanged, a handler sends data back to the caller via the callback. Pretty much straight out of the examples and resources online. I want to allow the service to continue running even if the app closes. When the app is restarted, I want the app to again bind to the service (using the existing service if running) and again receive data from the tracker. I currently have the app mode set to singleTask and cannot use singleinstance due to another issue. My problem is that quit often even after the app and service are shut down either from the app itself, or from AdvancedTaskKiller, or a Forceclose, the service will restart and initialize the GPS. touching on the notification will open the app. I again stop the tracking which removes the notification and turns off the GPS Close the app, and again after a few seconds the service restarts. The only way to stop it is to power off the phone. What can I do to stop this from happening. Does it have to do with the mode of operation? START_NOT_STICKY or START_REDELIVER_INTENT? Or do I need to use stopSelf()? My understanding is that if the service is not running when I use bindService() that the service will be created...so do I really need to use start/stopService also? I thought I would need to use it if I want the service to run even after the app is closed. That is why i do not unbind/stop the service in onDestroy(). Is this correct?     So far I have this code from outlookcode.com which I can get to work sending all emails I send to the BCC email. I am not a developer, so I don't have a lot of context to go about editing this myself, or even approaching researching this. If anyone knows how to make this check for words in the subject, or check if the subject equals a certain string, I'd really appreciate it.   • How do I catch jQuery $.getJSON (or $.ajax with datatype set to 'jsonp') error when using JSONP?

    Is it possible to catch an error when using JSONP with jQuery? I've tried both the $.getJSON and $.ajax methods but neither will catch the 404 error I'm testing.   • Getting 'error while loading shared libraries' when using -L to specifically find the library.

    I've been trying to solve this for a few hours now. I am compiling some c files using gcc. The files require libpbc, so I am using the -L flag to point gcc at the directory which contains libpbc.so.1. The code compiles without error yet when I attempt to run it I get the following error message: ./example.out: error while loading shared libraries: libpbc.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory Looking at similar questions this error message seems to indicate that gcc can't find libpbc.so.1. I know gcc sees libpbc.so.1 because when I rename libpbc.so.1 to something else it fails to compile. I am using -L to point to the directory which contains libpbc.so.1. Not sure what next steps I can take to figure this out. Would appreciate any ideas. What does this error message mean exactly?

  • How can this PHP/FQL code be modified to increase the performance and usability?

    I try to get some insights from the pages I am administrator on Facebook. What my code does, it gets the IDs of the pages I want to work with through mySQL. I did not include that part though.After this, I get the page_id, name and fan_count of each of those facebook IDs and are saved in fancounts[]. Using the IDs ( pages[] ) I get two messages max from each page. There may be no messages, there may be 1 or 2 messages max. Possibly I will increase it later. messages[] holds the messages of each page. I have two problems with it. It has a very slow performance I can't find a way to echo the data like this: ID - Name of the page - Fan Count Here goes the first message Here goes the second one //here is a break ID - Name of the page 2 - Fan Count Here goes the first message of page 2 Here goes the second one of page 2 My questions are, how can the code be modified to increase performance and show the data as above? I read about fql.multiquery. Can it be used here? Please provide me with code examples.     Hello, I'm calling a WCF service through javascript and right now it's not showing any errors that might occur on the service side to the user. I have the code below and am looking for a better way to inform the user an error has occured, including the call stack and error message if possible. The service itself throws a FaultException if an error has occured. However, I want to catch that error in the javascript call and show it to the user.   • Contact form problem - I do receive messages, but no contents (blank page).

    I'm running Vmware ESX 4.1 and I have a development VM that I recently upgraded from Ubuntu 10.04 to 11.04. Then I tried to re-install VMware Tools and some of the modules gave me an error and would not compile. As a result I'm having problems with backing up this virtual machine now and I suspect VMware tools is the reason. I installed latest patches for VMware host, that included an update to VMware Tools (v8.3.7 build-381511) but I'm still getting the same error.
