• How can I reuse .NET resources in multiple executables?

  I have an existing application that I'm supposed to take and create a "mini" version of. Both are localized apps and we would like to reuse the resources in the main application as is. So, here's the basic structure of my apps: MainApplication.csproj /Properties/Resources.resx /MainUserControl.xaml (uses strings in Properties/Resources.resx) /MainUserControl.xaml.cs MiniApplication.csproj link to MainApplication/Properties/Resources.resx link to MainApplication/MainUserControl.xaml link to MainApplication/MainUserControl.xaml.cs MiniApplication.xaml (tries to use MainUserControl from MainApplication link) So, in summary, I've added the needed resources and user control from the main application as links in the mini application. However, when I run the mini application, I get the following exception. I'm guessing it's having trouble with the different namespaces, but how do I fix? Could not find any resources appropriate for the specified culture or the neutral culture. Make sure \"MainApplication.Properties.Resources.resources\" was correctly embedded or linked into assembly \"MiniApplication\" at compile time, or that all the satellite assemblies required are loadable and fully signed. FYI, I know I could put the user control in a user control library but the problem is that the mini application needs to have a small footprint. So, we only want to include what we need.

  Hi, I need an applet which contains one panel. The panel needs to be 550x400 pixels, the JTextField needs to be under the panel dynamic size. • Can't connect to MySql database from server using Devart

  Hello, I'm having trouble connecting to a MySql database from a server. I'm using Devart to connect, and I'm not sure if I need to do something more than to simply reference the dlls. When I started working on this project it was referencing the CoreLabs dlls, which if I've understood is the previous name for Devart. That didn't work, so I downloaded the new Devart dlls instead. It works on my local machine, but when uploading to the server it crashes. • How can I find "People's Contacts" folders via Outlook's object model?

  I have some code that locates all the contact folders that a user has access to by iterating through the Application.Session.Stores collection. This works for the user's contacts and also all the public contacts folders. It also finds all the contacts folders in additional mailbox accounts that the user has added via the Tools - Account Settings... menu command. However, this requires the user to have full access to the other person's account. When a user only has access to another person's contacts, then that person's contacts show up under the "People's Contacts" group in the Contacts view. How do I find those contact folders that don't show up under Session.Stores? In order to see the other user's contacts folder without adding access to their full mailbox, click File - Open - Other User's Folder... from the Outlook menu. In the dialog box, enter the other user's name and select Contacts from the Folder type drop down list. Here's the code (minus the error checking and logging) I'm using to find a list of all the user's Outlook contact folders. I know this can (and maybe should) be done using early binding to the Outlook.Application type, but that doesn't affect the results. EnumerateFolders is recursive so that it searches all sub folders. • C# Uploading files to file server

  Hello All, Currently I have an application that receives an uploaded file from my web application. I now need to transfer that file to a file server which happens to be located on the same network (however this might not always be the case). I was attempting to use the webclient class in C# .NET. string filePath = "C:\\test\\564.flv"; try { WebClient client = new WebClient(); NetworkCredential nc = new NetworkCredential(uName, password); Uri addy = new Uri("\\\\192.168.1.28\\Files\\test.flv"); client.Credentials = nc; byte[] arrReturn = client.UploadFile(addy, filePath); Console.WriteLine(arrReturn.ToString()); } catch (Exception ex) { Console.WriteLine(ex.Message); } The machine located at 192.168.1.28 is a file server and has a share c:\Files. As of right now I am receiving an error of Login failed bad user name or password, but I can open explorer and type in that path login successfully. I can also login using remote desktop, so I know the user account works. Any ideas on this error? Is it possible to transfer a file directly like that? With the webclient class or maybe some other class? Thanks

Is there anything like a checksum for the class file? I looked up the format of a classfile in http://java.sun.com/docs/books/jvms/second_edition/html/ClassFile.doc.html but could not find anything which points out to some kind of bytes_of_classfile or something. I also don't understand why the error is "Truncated Class File", because I did append something :-) I know its not a good idea to edit class files directly, but I'm just interested on the VM internals here.

• Authorization and Jquery dialog problem.

  Hi, I have a little problem with a Jquery dialog for an action that requires a role. In my example, the user can click on a delete button and must confirm the action. In my controller, the Delete action requires a role, if the user is in the required role, the object is deleted. The problem: How to alert the user if * the element was deleted (redirect to the Index view) * there was an error (alert with the message) * he doesn't have the rights to delete (alert with the message) Before using the authorize filter, the delete action returned a JSON with a Boolean that indicates if there was an error, an URL to redirect on success and a message to alert on error. As I can't return a JSON from my filter, I created an other method with the authorize filter that returns a partial view with the confirm content. If the user doesn't have the rights, the filter returns a partial view with an unauthorized exception content. The problem: How to distinct which partial view was returned. When I create the dialog, I need to know for the buttons function. Thanks!

• Width of li with two floats different in IE, correct in FF

  I've worked out most of the kinks with my "lava-lamp" effect that I'm trying to create. Basically I want two curly braces (both are images) to wrap a list-item, then follow over to the next list-item. I always build in FF, then make exceptions for IE. I can't figure out what exception I need to make! I'm using an absolutely positioned li that contains two div's. The first div is floated left, the second is floated right. The width of the li is set to the width of the li it supposed to be wrapping. Thus creating the effect of the braces on the left and right sides of the text. It works beautifully in Firefox, but IE has two issues: The bottoms of the images are cut off. Sometimes they reappear when the animation ends, sometimes they don't. I assume this has to do with height, but no matter what I set the height to, it fails! The width is completely wrong. Here's a live example of it: http://jsbin.com/odome/2 The left position in IE is always 5-7px more than in FF, but that's a small difference. If that class is not read from input, it will not be initialized. • Global.asax parser errors when deploying MVC 1 application to remote server.

  So we're having some issues deploying an ASP.NET MVC app to a client site. Basically when we try to test the app from localhost, we get the dreaded Global.asax parser error indicating it could not load the application global. Research indicates there are basically 4 possible reasons for this exception we're seeing: The solution hasn't been built. This clearly isn't the case since we can deploy it here and it runs fine on any machine we deploy to AND we had to build and publish the darn thing to deploy it anyway. The Global.asax namespace inheritance does not match the application global code file. Again we double checked this and since it runs just fine here that can't be the issue. Miscellaneous non-descript IIS/VS.NET mischief. Basically something get's wonky in IIS or VS.NET and the web server won't behave correctly for this application. We've done cleans and rebuilds, we've deleted virtual dir and recreated, and performed all of the IIS munging that we've found elsewhere online. Various combinations of IIS bounces, server reboots, virtual dir/application recreation, etc. Code level permissions issue. We've verified full trust in machine/web config in the framework directory, we've set .NET trust to full in IIS, we've granted Everyone full control on the directories just to hit it with the security hammer, etc. etc. The pertinent detials: Windows Server 2008 x64 IIS 7, 32 bit compatible app pool (app was written on 32 bit OS compiled for any cpu) App pool identity set to NetworkService Microsoft ASP.NET MVC 1.0 XCopy deployment We deployed another read-only app just fine. The significant difference in this app is the use of NHibernate and Log4Net which require full trust. Additionally, the actual project name of the web project differs from the default namespace however the Inherits namespace in Global.asax and the Global.asax.cs files match so this shouldn't be an issue. Anybody have any bright ideas? We're officially down to just the dim ones.

I installed Java 1.7.0 in the following folder C:\Program Files\Java The environment variable which I set are CLASSPATH : C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.7.0\jre\lib\rt.jar; Path : C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.7.0\bin; JAVA_HOME : C:\Program Files\Java; I have presented here the class names which are in my system. Next I wrote a program(HelloWorld.java) import java.io.*; class HelloWorld { public static void main(String[] args) { System.out.println("Hello World!"); } } When I am compiling using javac HelloWorld.java it is compiling fine.   I am using CruiseControl.net for continous integration. I've created a repository for my project using VisualSvn server (uses Windows Authentication). Both the servers are hosted in the same system (Os-Microsoft Windows Server 2003 sp2). When i force build the project using CruiseControl.net "Failed task(s): Svn: CheckForModifications" is shown as the message.   Is there a consensus on how to avoid memoization causing bugs due to mutable state? In this example, a cached result had its state mutated, and therefore gave the wrong result the second time it was called. class Greeter def initialize @greeting_cache = {} end def expensive_greeting_calculation(formality) case formality when :casual then "Hi" when :formal then "Hello" end end def greeting(formality) unless @greeting_cache.has_key?(formality) @greeting_cache[formality] = expensive_greeting_calculation(formality) end @greeting_cache[formality] end end def memoization_mutator greeter = Greeter.new first_person = "Bob" # Mildly contrived in this case, # but you could encounter this in more complex scenarios puts(greeter.greeting(:casual) << " " << first_person) # => Hi Bob second_person = "Sue" puts(greeter.greeting(:casual) << " " << second_person) # => Hi Bob Sue end memoization_mutator Approaches I can see to avoid this are: greeting could return a dup or clone of @greeting_cache[formality] greeting could freeze the result of @greeting_cache[formality]. That'd cause an exception to be raised when memoization_mutator appends strings to it. Check all code that uses the result of greeting to ensure none of it does any mutating of the string. Is there a consensus on the best approach? Is the only disadvantage of doing (1) or (2) decreased performance? (I also suspect freezing an object may not work fully if it has references to other objects) Side note: this problem doesn't affect the main application of memoization: as Fixnums are immutable, calculating Fibonacci sequences doesn't have problems with mutable state. :)

• Detecting whether user stayed after prompting onBeforeUnload

  In a web app I'm working on, I'm capturing onBeforeUnload to ask the user whether he really wants to exit. Now, if he decides to stay, there are a number of things I'd like to do. What I'm trying to figure out is that he actually chose to stay. I can of course declare a SetTimeout for "x" seconds, and if that fires, then it would mean the user is still there (because we didn't get unloaded). The problem is that the user can take any time to decide whether to stay or not... I was first hoping that while the dialog was showing, SetTimeout calls would not fire, so I could set a timeout for a short time and it'd only fire if the user chose to stay. However, timeouts do fire while the dialog is shown, so that doesn't work. Another idea I tried is capturing mouseMoves on the window/document. While the dialog is shown, mouseMoves indeed don't fire, except for one weird exception that really applies to my case, so that won't work either. Can anyone think of other way to do this? Thanks! (In case you're curious, the reason capturing mouseMove doesn't work is that I have an IFrame in my page, containing a site from another domain. If at the time of unloading the page, the focus is within the IFrame, while the dialog shows, then I get the MouseMove event firing ONCE when the mouse moves from inside the IFrame to the outside (at least in Firefox). That's probably a bug, but still, it's very likely that'll happen in our case, so I can't use this method).

• Cast errors with IXmlSerializable

  I am trying to use the IXmlSerializable interface to deserialize an Object (I am using it because I need specific control over what gets deserialized and what does not. See my previous question for more information). However, I'm stumped as to the error message I get. Below is the error message I get (I have changed some names for clarity): An unhandled exception of type 'System.InvalidCastException' occurred in App.exe Additional information: Unable to cast object of type 'System.Xml.XmlNode[]' to type 'MyObject'. MyObject has all the correct methods defined for the interface, and regardless of what I put in the method body for ReadXml() I still get this error. It doesn't matter if it has my implementation code or if it's just blank. I did some googling and found an error that looks similar to this involving polymorphic objects that implement IXmlSerializable. However, my class does not inherit from any others (besides Object). I suspected this may be an issue because I never reference XmlNode any other time in my code. • Intercepting hyperlinks in an embedded Word document

  Hello, I'm working on an app which uses embedded Word documents. We have a feature which allows them to insert a small clickable image into the doc - when the user clicks on it, we want the app to open another window based on some data specified by the user when the image was added. What the application does now is: When the image is inserted, the app creates a hyperlink for it and the data is used as the link destination The user ctrl+clicks on the image and the Word document the WindowSelectionChange event The app handles the WindowSelectionChange event and goes to open the specified window This approach worked fine with previous versions, when we had the 11.0 / Word 2003 interop dll's. We upgraded to 12.0/Word 2007 for the upcoming release, and in many cases the event is not firing when I click on the image - sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't, and I'm descending into the cargo-cult world trying to figure out why - sometimes saving and re-opening the document works, sometimes killing the Word process and starting a new one fixes (or breaks) the feature. My guess is there's something going wrong with the WinSelChg event, but I'm not sure what. The usual process we have for applying the event handler is: try //remove the old one if any { ((Document)myAXFramerControl.ActiveDocument).Application.WindowSelectionChange -= new ApplicationEvents4_WindowSelectionChangeEventHandler(WSC_eventhandlerfunction); } catch{} ((Document)myAXFramerControl.ActiveDocument).Application.WindowSelectionChange += new ApplicationEvents4_WindowSelectionChangeEventHandler(WSC_eventhandlerfunction); Sometimes one or both of these will throw exceptions - usually a NullReferenceException when removing the handler. Adding the handler sometimes throws the "com object that has been separated from its underlying rcw cannot be used" exception, which I don't understand at all - my impression was that this only occurs when you, say, store a reference to the Word application or document and try to use it later. As it stands the WSC event handler is frequently never run; while I'm happy to fiddle with the app until it works once I can't really expect the same of the users who have been happily using this feature for a while now. Any ideas?

I do not lazy load to prevent query execution in other layers of my application. I created another function in my DAL to delete objects: public void Delete(SourceKey sk) { try { _dataContext.DeleteObject(sk); _dataContext.SaveChanges(); } catch (Exception ex) { Debug.WriteLine(ex.Message + " " + ex.StackTrace + " " + ex.InnerException); } } When I try to call "Delete" after calling the "Get" function, I receive this error: New transaction is not allowed because there are other threads running in the session This is an ASP.Net app. My DAL contains an entity data model. The class in which I have the above functions share the same _dataContext, which is instantiated in my constructor. My guess is that the reader is still open from the "Get" function and was not closed. How can I close it?

• Running migration on server when deploying with capistrano

  Hi, I'm trying to deploy my rails application with capistrano, but I'm having some trouble running my migrations. In my development environment I just use sqlite as my database, but on my production server I use MySQL. The problem is that I want the migrations to run from my server and not my local machine, as I am not able to connect to my database from a remote location. My server setup: A debian box running ngnix, passenger, mysql and a git repository. What is the easiest way to do this? update: Here's my deploy script: set :application, "example.com" set :domain, "example.com" set :scm, :git set :repository, "[email protected]:project.git" set :use_sudo, false set :deploy_to, "/var/www/example.com" role :web, domain role :app, domain role :db, "localhost", :primary = true after "deploy", "deploy:migrate" When I run cap deploy, everything is working fine until it tries to run the migration. Here's the error I'm getting: ** [deploy:update_code] exception while rolling back: Capistrano::ConnectionError, connection failed for: localhost (Errno::ECONNREFUSED: Connection refused - connect(2)) connection failed for: localhost (Errno::ECONNREFUSED: Connection refused - connect(2))) This is why I need to run the migration from the server and not from my local machine. Any ideas?

I tried with a runnable and calling .invokeLater or .invokeAndWait but I still get the same behavior, and even if I get dirty like above using synchronized it still doesn't work.   I am trying to track down a very odd crash. What is so odd about it is a workaround that someone discovered and which I cannot explain. The workaround is this small program which I'll refer to as 'runner': #include <stdio.h> #include <unistd.h> #include <string.h> #include <errno.h> int main(int argc, char *argv[]) { if (argc == 1) { fprintf(stderr, "Usage: %s prog [args ...]\n", argv[0]); return 1; } execvp(argv[1], argv + 1); fprintf(stderr, "execv failed: %s\n", strerror(errno)); // If exec returns because the program is not found or we // don't have the appropriate permission return 255; } As you can see, all this program does is use execvp to replace itself with a different program. The program crashes when it is directly invoked from the command line: /path/to/prog args # this crashes but works fine when it is indirectly invoked via my runner shim: /path/to/runner /path/to/prog args # works successfully For the life of me, I can figure out how having an extra exec can change the behavior of the program being run (as you can see the program does not change the environment). Some background on the crash. The crash itself is happening in the C++ runtime. Specifically, when the program does a throw, the crashing version incorrectly thinks there is no matching catch (although there is) and calls terminate. When I invoke the program via runner, the exception is properly caught. My question is any idea why the extra exec changes the behavior of the exec'ed program?

  when trying to translate the confirmation message to Norwegian i get the following error: Cannot have more than one binding on property 'OnClientClick' on 'System.Web.UI.WebControls.LinkButton'. Ensure that this property is not bound through an implicit expression, for example, using meta:resourcekey. i use Explicit localization in the following manner: <asp:LinkButton ID="lnkMarkInvoiced" runat="server" OnClick="lnkMarkInvoiced_OnClick" OnClientClick="<%# Resources: lnkMarkInvoicedResource.OnClientClick%>" Visible="False" CssClass="stdtext" meta:resourcekey="lnkMarkInvoicedResource" ></asp:LinkButton> here's the local resource file entry: <data name="lnkMarkInvoicedResource.OnClientClick" xml:space="preserve"> <value>return confirm('Er du sikker?');</value> if i remove the meta attribute i get the English text(default). how do i get the Norwegian text appearing without resorting to using the code behind? Update: removing the meta attribute prevents the exception from occurring but the original problem still exists. I can't get the Norwegian text to show. only the default English text shows. Another Update: I know this question is getting old but i still can't get the Norwegian text to display. If anyone has some tips please post a response.
