• Compiling a program with a legacy version of gcc

  This is probably a very difficult problem to troubleshoot with the information I can practically provide, but I'm hoping someone might be able to at least point me in a possible direction. I'm trying to install HTK (http://htk.eng.cam.ac.uk/), which, according to this page needs to be installed using gcc 3.4. Their method of implementing backwards compatibility: #yum install compat-gcc-34-c++ compat-gcc-34 won't work for me as I'm running Ubuntu (On that note, I take it I can't simply install YUM and the subsequent package, since it's an entirely different distro, but if I'm wrong I'd love to hear it). I instead installed two versions of gcc 3.4 - 3.4.0 and 3.4.6 using instructions from this site. I then added the lines suggested by that page to the top of the makefile (on this note, what's the difference between makefile and makefile.in? I tried adding the lines to the top of both files regardless), both for version 3.4.0 and 3.4.6, but both failed. I also tried, on the off-chance, compiling it with my current version (4.4.1), but that also failed. • Using @Context, @Provider and ContextResolver in JAX-RS

  I'm just getting acquainted with implementing REST web services in Java using JAX-RS and I ran into the following problem. One of my resource classes requires access to a storage backend, which is abstracted away behind a StorageEngine interface. I would like to inject the current StorageEngine instance into the resource class serving the REST requests and I thought a nice way of doing this would be by using the @Context annotation and an appropriate ContextResolver class. This is what I have so far: In MyResource.java: class MyResource { @Context StorageEngine storage; [...] } In StorageEngineProvider.java: @Provider class StorageEngineProvider implements ContextResolver<StorageEngine> { private StorageEngine storage = new InMemoryStorageEngine(); public StorageEngine getContext(Class<?> type) { if (type.equals(StorageEngine.class)) return storage; return null; } } I'm using com.sun.jersey.api.core.PackagesResourceConfig to discover the providers and the resource classes automatically, and according to the logs, it picks up the StorageEngineProvider class nicely (timestamps and unnecessary stuff left out intentionally): INFO: Root resource classes found: class MyResource INFO: Provider classes found: class StorageEngineProvider However, the value of storage in my resource class is always null - neither the constructor of StorageEngineProvider nor its getContext method is called by Jersey, ever. What am I doing wrong here?

• NetBeans generates JpaController with errors

  Hi, I am using NetBeans 6.8 for building Spring MVC application. Techonologies : Spring MVC 2.5 Derby DB Hibernate for ORM GlassFish v3 server I use New JPA Controller Classes from Entity Classes for adding ORM file. It is supposed to generate class for managing queries with my POJO files. Problem is, that NetBeans generates following code, and won't compile : public int getBrandCount() { EntityManager em = getEntityManager(); try { CriteriaQuery cq = em.getCriteriaBuilder().createQuery(); Root<Brand> rt = cq.from(Brand.class); cq.select(em.getCriteriaBuilder().count(rt)); Query q = em.createQuery(cq); return ((Long) q.getSingleResult()).intValue(); } finally { em.close(); } } At the picture, there is NetBeans error : It looks like method getCriteriaBuilder of Entity Manager Interface is unimplemented. Or some other reason why I can't use it in code. I don't know what other info should I provide, so please ask if anything comes to your mind. Thanks

My webservice is not even executed, the path should be correct since the error message does not complain about this. • Ruby Gems Not Installing, Hangs While Getting Gems

  I recently cleared out all of my ruby install and installed form sources using the instructions at hivelogic I have have been able to install a few gems, but most of the time, "sudo gem install rails" hangs. I've added the -V flag, and it just seems to hang, I don't get any error. And the process can not be killed. I can only reboot to kill the process. • Ajax Minifier Visual Studio include all javascript files

  I am using the Ajax Minifier http://www.ajaxprojects.com/ajax/tutorialdetails.php?itemid=766 and have embedded it in the csproj file for use in Visual Studio 2008 (not the free version). I have two folders, Content and Scripts, directly under the root of the project. Also, the Content folder has subfolders, and would like to include all of these as well (if I have to manually add each subfolder that is fine as well). Currently, my csproj file looks like this (and is included within the Project tags as instructed). There are no build errors, the files simply do not get minified. • Version control a content management system?

  I have the following directory structure in the CMS application we have written: /application /modules /cms /filemanager /block /pages /sitemap /youtube /rss /skin /backend /default /css /js /images /frontend /default /css /js /images Application contains code specific to the current CMS implementation, i.e code for this specific cms. Modules contain reusable portions of code that we share across projects, such as libraries to work with youtube or rss feeds. We include these as git submodules, so that we can update the module in any website and push the changes back across all other projects. It makes it really easy to apply a change to our code and distribute it. We wanted to turn the CMS into a module so we get the same benefit - we can run the entire project under source control, then update the cms as required through a git-submodule. We have run into a problem however: the cms requires javascript/images/css in order for it to work correctly. Things we have thought about: We could create 2 submodules, one for cms-skin and one for cms, but this means you cannot "git pull" one version without having some idea of which versions of skin work with which versions of cms. i.e version 1.2.2 CMS might have issues with 1.0.3 CMS-Skin We could add the skin to the cms module but this has the following problems: Skin should be available on the document root, module code shouldn't be, and if it is it should probably be secured via .htaccess It doesn't seem to make any sense bundling assets with php code We could create a symlink between /skin/backend/ to go to /modules/cms/skin but does this cause any security problems, and do we want to require something like a symlink for the application to work? We could create a hook for git or a shell script that copies files from modules/cms/skin to skin/backend when an update occurs, but this means we lose the ability to edit CMS core files in a project then push them back How is this typically done in large scale cms's? How is it possible to get the source code for a cms under version control, work on the application for a client, then update the sourcecode as releases and given by the vendor? How do applications like Magento or Drupal do this?

• jQuery hover menu not disappearing

  I have a basic menu using some nested UL's, which is pretty standard I think. When hovering over an LI from the "root" menu, I want the UL within that LI to display. Move the mouse off or to another LI, it shows that submenu. Move down to the submenu and it stays while you hover over each element. I had it working with a simple jQuery.hover() set, but then I ran into issues. When on a page, the "root" menu item is given a class of 'current-page' and if that class exists, I want it to display that submenu statically after a mouseout. Hope I explained that well enough. I just tossed a variable into the hover functions so on the mouseout it ran a .show() on the current-page's submenu. Easy. Except that when I move the mouse between the individual LI's of the submenu, it changes back to the current-page submenu. So I attempted to add a timer element based on another question here. That made things worse -- now the submenus just don't disappear. Here's my CSS, markup, and JS ... how the heck do I make this work properly?   I have a page which contains several divs (each with a unique ID and the same class, 'parent'). Underneath each "parent" div, is a div with class "child" and unique ID name -child. This DIV is upon page load empty. • IIS: No Session being handed out, but only in production

  I've reproduced this in a simple project - details below. It's a WCF service in ASP.NET compatibility mode. What I'm seeing is that when run on the dev machine (Win7), a HTTP session id is available inside the service operation (HttpContext.Current.Session is non-null). But when deployed to the server (Win2k8R2), I get "No session". On both machines the app is configured to use the classic app pool, and the app pools themselves are configured identically as far as I can tell. The only differences I can discern between the two applications is that on the dev box, under "Handler Mappings", ISAPI-dll is disabled (not on the server), and on the server there's a spurious handler called "AboMapperCustom-7105160" (does not exist on the dev box). What should I be looking at next? Am I missing something head-slappingly simple? People seem to like EF because of LINQ to EF but since my criteria is passed between client and server as criteria object it seems like I could build queries just as easily without LINQ. I understand in WCF RIA that there is query projection (or something like that) where I can do client side LINQ which does move to the server before translation into actual SQL so in that case I can see the benefit of EF, but not in CSLA. If I use raw ADO.NET, will I regret my decision 5 years from now? Has anyone else made this choice recently and which way did you go?

• How to get rank from full-text search query with Linq to SQL?

  I am using Linq to SQL to call a stored procedure which runs a full-text search and returns the rank plus a few specific columns from the table Article. The rank column is the rank returned from the SQL function FREETEXTTABLE(). I've added this sproc to the data model designer with return type Article. This is working to get the columns I need; however, it discards the ranking of each search result. I'd like to get this information so I can display it to the user. So far, I've tried creating a new class RankedArticle which inherits from Article and adds the column Rank, then changing the return type of my sproc mapping to RankedArticle. When I try this, an InvalidOperationException gets thrown: Data member 'Int32 ArticleID' of type 'Heap.Models.Article' is not part of the mapping for type 'RankedArticle'. Is the member above the root of an inheritance hierarchy? I can't seem to find any other questions or Google results from people trying to get the rank column, so I'm probably missing something obvious here.

  I'm trying to add Google Maps onto my JSPs by using the googlemaps jstl taglib. I've added this into my maven pom <dependency> <groupId>com.lamatek</groupId> <artifactId>googlemaps</artifactId> <version>0.98c</version> <scope>provided<>/scope </dependency> This then included the googlemaps-0.98c library under my project libraries in NetBeans, I right clicked and selected Manually install artifact and located the googlemaps.jar file I had downloaded. The client makes a super simple call over basicHttpBinding. It works great, until I enable SSL (that is, specify BasicHttpSecurityMode.Transport in the binding). Running on .NET in Windows, it works great Running on Mono on Ubuntu 9.10 / Mono 2.6 I get the following error: Exception in async operation: System.Net.WebException: Error getting response stream (Write: The authentication or decryption has failed.): SendFailure --- System.IO.IOException: The authentication or decryption has failed. --- Mono.Security.Protocol.Tls.TlsException: Invalid certificate received from server. Error code: 0xffffffff800b010a I've read the Mono security FAQ here: http://www.mono-project.com/FAQ:_Security; however the SSL certificate on the server is from a root CA (a purchased certificate) - issued by Equifax Secure Certificate Authority. I ran the TlsTest tool on the Ubuntu install against the .svc URL and there are no problems/errors. Also I can hit the service fine in Firefox (no security warnings). What am I missing? • Start or ensure that Delayed Job runs when an application/server restarts.

  Hi there, We have to use delayed_job (or some other background-job processor) to run jobs in the background, but we're not allowed to change the boot scripts/boot-levels on the server. This means that the daemon is not guaranteed to remain available if the provider restarts the server (since the daemon would have been started by a capistrano recipe that is only run once per deployment). Currently, the best way I can think of to ensure the delayed_job daemon is always running, is to add an initializer to our Rails application that checks if the daemon is running. If it's not running, then the initializer starts the daemon, otherwise, it just leaves it be. The question, therefore, is how do we detect that the Delayed_Job daemon is running from inside a script? (We should be able to start up a daemon fairly easily, bit I don't know how to detect if one is already active). Anyone have any ideas?
