  • How to use `wx.ProgressDialog` with my own method?

    - by user1401950
How can I use the wx.ProgressDialog to time my method called imgSearch? The imgSearch method finds image files on the user's pc. How can I make the wx.ProgressDialog run while imgSearch is still running and display how long the imgSearch is taking? Here's my code: def onFind (self, event)# triggered by a button click max = 80 dlg = wx.ProgressDialog("Progress dialog example","An informative message",parent=self, style = wx.PD_CAN_ABORT| wx.PD_APP_MODAL| wx.PD_ELAPSED_TIME| wx.PD_REMAINING_TIME) keepGoing = True count = 0 imageExtentions = ['*.jpg', '*.jpeg', '*.png', '*.tif', '*.tiff'] selectedDir = 'C:\\' imgSearch.findImages(imageExtentions, selectedDir)# my method while keepGoing and count < max: count += 1 wx.MilliSleep(250) if count >= max / 2: (keepGoing, skip) = dlg.Update(count, "Half-time!") else: (keepGoing, skip) = dlg.Update(count) dlg.Destroy()

  • Is it me or is pygame.key.get_pressed() not working?

    - by user1321527
okay, so I am making a basic space-ship game. I can't get rotation to work because it scrambles the bitmap, but that's for another question.Should I even use a gif? any other filetype suggestions? back to the actual point here, so: k = pygame.key.get_pressed() yeah, self explanatory. this doesn't work, as it returns each key as pressed. so, somewhere else: d = k[pygame.K_d] and another line: print d and another: if d: So, k returns as each key on the keyboard pressed. d returns 0 indefinitely, whether or not d is pressed. d is always 0. the statement about d therefore is never true. Why is this happening?

  • trying to work through a list in sections

    - by user1714887
I have a list of lists sorted by the second value of the list (the groups). I now need to iterate through this to work on each "group" at a time. the data is [name, group, data1, data2, data3, data4]. I wasn't sure if I need a while or some other sort of loop, or maybe groupby but I've never used that. any help would be appreciated. for i in range (int(max_group)): x1 = [] x2 = [] x3 = [] x4 = [] if data[i][1] == i+1: x1.append(data[2]) x2.append(data[3]) x3.append(data[4]) x4.append(data[5]) print x1 print 'next' # these are just to test where we're at

  • How do you know where macports installs python packages to?

    - by xmaslist
I am running macports to install scipy and such on OS X leopard with python 2.7. The install runs successfully, but running python and trying to import the packages I've installed, they're not found. What I'm running is: sudo python_select python27 sudo port install py27-wxpython py27-numpy py27-matplotlib sudo port install py27-scipy py27-ipython Opening up python in interactive mode (it is the correct version of python), I type 'import scipy' and get a module not found error. What gives? How can I find out where it is installing the packages to instead?

  • What does upload in Google AppEngine app.yaml do?

    - by Great Turtle
I am going through the various Google AppEngine tutorials sometimes, and I just noticed something odd in a StackOverflow question about favicon.ico - specifically this question: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/887328/favicon-ico-not-found-error-in-app-engine - url: /favicon.ico static_files: media/img/favicon.ico upload: media/img/favicon.ico - url: /robots.txt static_files: media/robots.txt upload: media/robots.txt All of the posters included an "upload:" line in their app.yaml definitions The application appears to work the same with or without the upload: line, and I have not seen any mention of it in the official documentation. Where is it used, or what difference does it make if this line is included or not?

  • How often does memcache on Google AppEngine lose data?

    - by Freed
Memcache in general and on AppEngine in specific is unreliable in the sense that my data may be deleted from the cache for whatever reason at any point in time. However, in some cases there might be cases where a small risk may be worth the added performance using memcache could give, such as updating some data in memcache that gets saved periodically to some other, more reliable storage. Are there any numbers from Google that could give me an indication of the actual probability that a memcache entry would be lost from the cache before its expiration time, given that I keep within my quotas? Are there any reasons other than hardware failure and administrative operations such as machines at the data centers being upgraded/moved/replaced that would cause entries to be removed from memcache prematurely?

store an invoice with a list of items through my app. In the development console I can see that items are not persisted to any field while the rest of the invoice class properties are stored properly. Does anyone know what I am doing wrong? Solution As pointed in the answers, the error says that the InvoiceItem class was missing a primaryKey. I tried with: @PrimaryKey @Persistent(valueStrategy = IdGeneratorStrategy.IDENTITY) private Long id; But I was getting javax.jdo.JDOFatalUserException: Error in meta-data for InvoiceItem.id: Cannot have a java.lang.Long primary key and be a child object (owning field is Invoice.items). In persist list of objets, @aldrin pointed that For child classes the primary key has to be a com.google.appengine.api.datastore.Key value (or encoded as a string) see So, I tried with Key. It worked. @PrimaryKey @Persistent(valueStrategy = IdGeneratorStrategy.IDENTITY) private Key id;

  • Google App Engine 1.3.1 <admin-console> Issue

I attempted to add an <admin-console> section to my appengine-web.xml and I got the exception below. The <admin-console> element is a valid element according to the appengine-web.xsd. It's also documented in the app engine docs. • Why is Python 3.1.3 in the header listed as a syntax error?

    - by squashua
Hi, I'm a newbie programmer so I'll do my best to clearly ask my question. I'm running Python scripts in Mac 10.6.5 and now trying to write and save to a text file (following instructions in HeadsUp Python book). Whenever I hit function+F5 (as instructed) I get the same "invalid syntax" error and Idle highlights the "1" in "Python 3.1.3" of the header. Here's the header to which I'm referring: Python 3.1.3 (r313:86882M, Nov 30 2010, 09:55:56) [GCC 4.0.1 (Apple Inc. build 5494)] on darwin Type "copyright", "credits" or "license()" for more information. Extremely frustrating. I've checked and rechecked the code but this doesn't seem to be code related because the "syntax error" is in regards to the header text that posts in every Idle/Python session. Help anyone? Thanks, Squash

  • Is there any reason to use C++ instead of C, Perl, Python, etc.?

    - by Ehsan
As a Linux (server side) developer, I don't know where and why should I use C++. When I'm going to performance, the first and last choice is C. When "performance" isn't the main issue, programming languages like Perl and Python would be good choices. Almost all of open source applications I know in this area has been written in C, Perl and Python, Bash script, AWK and even PHP, but no one goes to use C++. I'm not discussing about some other areas like GUI or web application, I'm just talking about Linux and about CLI and daemons. Is there any satisfiable reason to use C++?

  • Do you think that GAE alone is enough to justify learning Python over Ruby?

    - by Cue
Considering the fact that you don't have to get involved in setting up/buying a server or even buying a domain, do you think that fact alone is enough to choose one over the other? I don't necessarily want to work on Google App Engine, I just find it convenient when it comes to hosting/environment/etc. and wondering if that's a good enough reason to learn python. In any case, I'm not looking for a debate between python and ruby but more on Google App Engine and whether its value is enough to dictate the language you should learn.

  • AppEngine JRuby - OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space - can it be solved?

    - by elado
I use AppEngine JRuby on Rails (SDK version 1.3.3.1) - a problem I encounter often is that after a few requests the server is getting really SLOW, until it dies and throws OutOfMemoryError on the terminal (OSX). The requests themselves are very lightweight, not more than looking for an entity or saving it, using DataMapper. On appspot, this problem is not happening. Is there any way to enlarge the heap space for JRuby? The exception log: Exception in thread "Timer-2" java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space Apr 29, 2010 8:08:22 AM com.google.apphosting.utils.jetty.JettyLogger warn WARNING: Error for /users/close_users java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space at org.jruby.RubyHash.internalPut(RubyHash.java:480) at org.jruby.RubyHash.internalPut(RubyHash.java:461) at org.jruby.RubyHash.fastASet(RubyHash.java:837) at org.jruby.RubyArray.makeHash(RubyArray.java:2998) at org.jruby.RubyArray.makeHash(RubyArray.java:2992) at org.jruby.RubyArray.op_diff(RubyArray.java:3103) at org.jruby.RubyArray$i_method_1_0$RUBYINVOKER$op_diff.call(org/jruby/RubyArray$i_method_1_0$RUBYINVOKER$op_diff.gen) at org.jruby.runtime.callsite.CachingCallSite.call(CachingCallSite.java:146) at org.jruby.ast.CallOneArgNode.interpret(CallOneArgNode.java:57) at org.jruby.ast.LocalAsgnNode.interpret(LocalAsgnNode.java:123) at org.jruby.ast.NewlineNode.interpret(NewlineNode.java:104) at org.jruby.ast.BlockNode.interpret(BlockNode.java:71) at org.jruby.runtime.InterpretedBlock.evalBlockBody(InterpretedBlock.java:373) at org.jruby.runtime.InterpretedBlock.yield(InterpretedBlock.java:346) at org.jruby.runtime.InterpretedBlock.yield(InterpretedBlock.java:303) at org.jruby.runtime.Block.yield(Block.java:194) at org.jruby.RubyArray.collect(RubyArray.java:2354) at org.jruby.RubyArray$i_method_0_0$RUBYFRAMEDINVOKER$collect.call(org/jruby/RubyArray$i_method_0_0$RUBYFRAMEDINVOKER$collect.gen) at org.jruby.runtime.callsite.CachingCallSite.callBlock(CachingCallSite.java:115) at org.jruby.runtime.callsite.CachingCallSite.call(CachingCallSite.java:122) at org.jruby.ast.CallNoArgBlockNode.interpret(CallNoArgBlockNode.java:64) at org.jruby.ast.CallNoArgNode.interpret(CallNoArgNode.java:61) at org.jruby.ast.LocalAsgnNode.interpret(LocalAsgnNode.java:123) at org.jruby.ast.NewlineNode.interpret(NewlineNode.java:104) at org.jruby.ast.BlockNode.interpret(BlockNode.java:71) at org.jruby.ast.EnsureNode.interpret(EnsureNode.java:98) at org.jruby.ast.BeginNode.interpret(BeginNode.java:83) at org.jruby.ast.NewlineNode.interpret(NewlineNode.java:104) at org.jruby.ast.BlockNode.interpret(BlockNode.java:71) at org.jruby.ast.EnsureNode.interpret(EnsureNode.java:96) at org.jruby.internal.runtime.methods.InterpretedMethod.call(InterpretedMethod.java:201) at org.jruby.internal.runtime.methods.DefaultMethod.call(DefaultMethod.java:183)

  • Solving Diophantine Equations Using Python

    - by HARSHITH
In mathematics, a Diophantine equation (named for Diophantus of Alexandria, a third century Greek mathematician) is a polynomial equation where the variables can only take on integer values. Although you may not realize it, you have seen Diophantine equations before: one of the most famous Diophantine equations is: We are not certain that McDonald's knows about Diophantine equations (actually we doubt that they do), but they use them! McDonald's sells Chicken McNuggets in packages of 6, 9 or 20 McNuggets. Thus, it is possible, for example, to buy exactly 15 McNuggets (with one package of 6 and a second package of 9), but it is not possible to buy exactly 16 nuggets, since no non- negative integer combination of 6's, 9's and 20's adds up to 16. To determine if it is possible to buy exactly n McNuggets, one has to solve a Diophantine equation: find non-negative integer values of a, b, and c, such that 6a + 9b + 20c = n. Write an iterative program that finds the largest number of McNuggets that cannot be bought in exact quantity. Your program should print the answer in the following format (where the correct number is provided in place of n): "Largest number of McNuggets that cannot be bought in exact quantity: n"

  • Writing an Iron Python debugger

    - by Kragen
As a learning exercise I'm writing myself a simple extension / plugin / macro framework using IronPython - I've gotten the basics working but I'd like to add some basic debugging support to make my script editor easier to work with. I've been hunting around on the internet a bit and I've found a couple of good resources on writing managed debuggers (including Mike Stall's excellent .Net Debugging blog and the MSDN documentaiton on the CLR Debugging API) - I understand that IronPython is essentially IL however apart from that I'm a tad lost on how to get started, in particular: Are there any significant differences between debugging a dynamic language (such as IronPython) to a static one (such as C#)? Do I need to execute my script in a special way to get IronPython to output suitable debugging information? Is debugging a script running inside the current process going to cause deadlocks, or does IronPython execute my script in a child process? Am I better off looking into how to produce a simple C# debugger first to get the general idea? (I'm not interested in the GUI aspect of making a debugger for now - I've already got a pretty good idea of how this might work)

  • South migration error: NoMigrations exception for django.contrib.auth

    - by danpalmer
I have been using South on my project for a while, but I recently did a huge amount of development and changed development machine and I think something messed up in the process. The project works fine, but I can't apply migrations. Whenever I try to apply a migration I get the following traceback: danpalmer:pest Dan$ python manage.py migrate frontend Traceback (most recent call last): File "manage.py", line 11, in <module> execute_manager(settings) File "/Library/Python/2.6/site-packages/django/core/management/__init__.py", line 362, in execute_manager utility.execute() File "/Library/Python/2.6/site-packages/django/core/management/__init__.py", line 303, in execute self.fetch_command(subcommand).run_from_argv(self.argv) File "/Library/Python/2.6/site-packages/django/core/management/base.py", line 195, in run_from_argv self.execute(*args, **options.__dict__) File "/Library/Python/2.6/site-packages/django/core/management/base.py", line 222, in execute output = self.handle(*args, **options) File "/Library/Python/2.6/site-packages/South-0.7-py2.6.egg/south/management/commands/migrate.py", line 102, in handle delete_ghosts = delete_ghosts, File "/Library/Python/2.6/site-packages/South-0.7-py2.6.egg/south/migration/__init__.py", line 182, in migrate_app applied = check_migration_histories(applied, delete_ghosts) File "/Library/Python/2.6/site-packages/South-0.7-py2.6.egg/south/migration/__init__.py", line 85, in check_migration_histories m = h.get_migration() File "/Library/Python/2.6/site-packages/South-0.7-py2.6.egg/south/models.py", line 34, in get_migration return self.get_migrations().migration(self.migration) File "/Library/Python/2.6/site-packages/South-0.7-py2.6.egg/south/models.py", line 31, in get_migrations return Migrations(self.app_name) File "/Library/Python/2.6/site-packages/South-0.7-py2.6.egg/south/migration/base.py", line 60, in __call__ self.instances[app_label] = super(MigrationsMetaclass, self).__call__(app_label_to_app_module(app_label), **kwds) File "/Library/Python/2.6/site-packages/South-0.7-py2.6.egg/south/migration/base.py", line 88, in __init__ self.set_application(application, force_creation, verbose_creation) File "/Library/Python/2.6/site-packages/South-0.7-py2.6.egg/south/migration/base.py", line 159, in set_application raise exceptions.NoMigrations(application) south.exceptions.NoMigrations: Application '<module 'django.contrib.auth' from '/Library/Python/2.6/site-packages/django/contrib/auth/__init__.pyc'>' has no migrations. I am not that experienced with South and I haven't met this error before. The only helpful mention I can find online about this error is for pre-0.7 I think and I am on South 0.7. I ran 'easy_install -U South' just to make sure. Thanks for any help that you can provide. I really appreciate it.
