  • Can a Generic Method handle both Reference and Nullable Value types?

    - by Adam Lassek
    I have a series of Extension methods to help with null-checking on IDataRecord objects, which I'm currently implementing like this: public static int? GetNullableInt32(this IDataRecord dr, int ordinal) { int? nullInt = null; return dr.IsDBNull(ordinal) ? nullInt : dr.GetInt32(ordinal); } public static int? GetNullableInt32(this IDataRecord dr, string fieldname) { int ordinal = dr.GetOrdinal(fieldname); return dr.GetNullableInt32(ordinal); } and so on, for each type I need to deal with. I'd like to reimplement these as a generic method, partly to reduce redundancy and partly to learn how to write generic methods in general. I've written this: public static Nullable<T> GetNullable<T>(this IDataRecord dr, int ordinal) { Nullable<T> nullValue = null; return dr.IsDBNull(ordinal) ? nullValue : (Nullable<T>) dr.GetValue(ordinal); } which works as long as T is a value type, but if T is a reference type it won't. This method would need to return either a Nullable type if T is a value type, and default(T) otherwise. How would I implement this behavior?

  • Should I use IDisposable for purely managed resources?

    - by John Gietzen
    Here is the scenario: I have an object called a Transaction that needs to make sure that only one entity has permission to edit it at any given time. In order to facilitate a long-lived lock, I have the class generating a token object that can be used to make the edits. You would use it like this: var transaction = new Transaction(); using (var tlock = transaction.Lock()) { transaction.Update(data, tlock); } Now, I want the TransactionLock class to implement IDisposable so that its usage can be clear. But, I don't have any unmanaged resources to dispose. however, the TransctionLock object itself is a sort of "unmanaged resource" in the sense that the CLR doesn't know how to properly finalize it. All of this would be fine and dandy, I would just use IDisposable and be done with it. However, my issue comes when I try to do this in the finalizer: ~TransactionLock() { this.Dispose(false); } I want the finalizer to release the transaction from the lock, if possible. How, in the finalizer, do I detect if the parent transaction (this.transaction) has already been finalized? Is there a better pattern I should be using? The Transaction class looks something like this: public sealed class Transaction { private readonly object lockMutex = new object(); private TransactionLock currentLock; public TransactionLock Lock() { lock (this.lockMutex) { if (this.currentLock != null) throw new InvalidOperationException(/* ... */); this.currentLock = new TransactionLock(this); return this.currentLock; } } public void Update(object data, TransactionLock tlock) { lock (this.lockMutex) { this.ValidateLock(tlock); // ... } } internal void ValidateLock(TransactionLock tlock) { if (this.currentLock == null) throw new InvalidOperationException(/* ... */); if (this.currentLock != tlock) throw new InvalidOperationException(/* ... */); } internal void Unlock(TransactionLock tlock) { lock (this.lockMutex) { this.ValidateLock(tlock); this.currentLock = null; } } }

  • looping problem while appending data to existing text file

    - by Manu
    try { stmt = conn.createStatement(); stmt1 = conn.createStatement(); stmt2 = conn.createStatement(); rs = stmt.executeQuery("select cust from trip1"); rs1 = stmt1.executeQuery("select cust from trip2"); rs2 = stmt2.executeQuery("select cust from trip3"); File f = new File(strFileGenLoc); OutputStream os = (OutputStream)new FileOutputStream(f,true); String encoding = "UTF8"; OutputStreamWriter osw = new OutputStreamWriter(os, encoding); BufferedWriter bw = new BufferedWriter(osw); } while ( rs.next() ) { while(rs1.next()){ while(rs2.next()){ bw.write(rs.getString(1)==null? "":rs.getString(1)); bw.write("\t"); bw.write(rs1.getString(1)==null? "":rs1.getString(1)); bw.write("\t"); bw.write(rs2.getString(1)==null? "":rs2.getString(1)); bw.write("\t"); bw.newLine(); } } } Above code working fine. My problem is 1. "rs" resultset contains one record in the table 2. "rs1" resultset contains 5 record in the table 3. "rs2" resultset contains 5 record in the table "rs" data is getting recursive. while writing to the same text file , the output i am getting like 1 2 3 1 12 21 1 23 25 1 10 5 1 8 54 but i need output like below 1 2 3 12 21 23 25 10 5 8 54 What things i need to change in my code.. Please advice

  • Closing thread using ExitThread - C

    - by Jamie Keeling
    I have a simple program that creates a thread, loops twenty times and then makes a call to close itself and perform the necessary cleanup. When I debug the program it reaches the ExitThread(); method and pauses, ignoring the printf(); I have set up after it to signal to me it's closed. Is this normal or am I forgetting to do something? I'm new to threading using C. Main() void main() { Time t; int i = 0; StartTimer(); for(i = 0; i < 20; i++) { t = GetTime(); printf("%d.%.3d\n", t.seconds, t.milliseconds); Sleep(100); } StopTimer(); } Thread Creation void StartTimer() { DWORD threadId; seconds = 0; milliseconds = 0; // Create child thread hThread = CreateThread( NULL, // lpThreadAttributes (default) 0, // dwStackSize (default) ThreadFunc, // lpStartAddress NULL, // lpParameter 0, // dwCreationFlags &threadId // lpThreadId (returned by function) ); // Check child thread was created successfully if(hThread == NULL) { printf("Error creating thread\n"); } } Thread Close void StopTimer() { DWORD exitCode; if(GetExitCodeThread(hThread,&exitCode) != 0) { ExitThread(exitCode); printf("Thread closed"); if(CloseHandle(hThread)) { printf("Handle closed"); } } }

  • SQL Server 2005 - Building a WHERE clause

    - by user336786
    Hello, I have a stored procedure that is dynamically building a query. The where clause associated with this query is based on filter values selected by a user. No matter what I do though, the where clause does not seem to get set. -- Dynamically build the WHERE clause based on the filters DECLARE @whereClause as nvarchar(1024) IF (@hasSpouse > -1) BEGIN IF (@hasSpouse = 0) SET @whereClause='p.[HasSpouse]=0' ELSE SET @whereClause='(p.[HasSpouse]=1 OR p.[HasSpouse] IS NULL)' END -- Dynamically add the next filter if necessary IF (@isVegan > -1) BEGIN IF (LEN(@whereClause) > 0) BEGIN SET @whereClause = @whereClause + ' AND ' END IF (@isVegan = 0) SET @whereClause = @whereClause + 'c.[IsVegan]=0' ELSE SET @whereClause = @whereClause + '(c.[IsVegan]=1 OR c.[IsVegan] IS NULL)' END PRINT @whereClause The @whereClause never prints anything. In turn, the LEN(@whereClause) is always NULL. The @isVegan and @hasSpouse values are passed into the stored procedure. The values are what I expected. What am I doing wrong? Why is the @whereClause never being set? Thank you for your help! Thank you!

  • Java: How to make this main thread wait for the new thread to terminate

    - by Jeff Bullard
    I have a java class that creates a process, called child, using ProcessBuilder. The child process generates a lot of output that I am draining on a separate thread to keep the main thread from getting blocked. However, a little later on I need to wait for the output thread to complete/terminate before going on, and I'm not sure how to do that. I think that join() is the usual way to do this but I'm not sure how to do that in this case. Here is the relevant part of the java code. // Capture output from process called child on a separate thread final StringBuffer outtext = new StringBuffer(""); new Thread(new Runnable() { public void run() { InputStream in = null; in = child.getInputStream(); try { if (in != null) { BufferedReader reader = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(in)); String line = reader.readLine(); while ((line != null)) { outtext.append(line).append("\n"); ServerFile.appendUserOpTextFile(userName, opname, outfile, line+"\n"); line = reader.readLine(); } } } catch (IOException iox) { throw new RuntimeException(iox); } } }).start(); // Write input to for the child process on this main thread // String intext = ServerFile.readUserOpTextFile(userName, opname, infile); OutputStream out = child.getOutputStream(); try { out.write(intext.getBytes()); out.close(); } catch (IOException iox) { throw new RuntimeException(iox); } // ***HERE IS WHERE I NEED TO WAIT FOR THE THREAD TO FINISH *** // Other code goes here that needs to wait for outtext to get all // of the output from the process // Then, finally, when all the remaining code is finished, I return // the contents of outtext return outtext.toString();

GoogleConsumer.RequestAuthorization(google, GoogleConsumer.Applications.DocumentsList); } } } I successfully get "AccessToken", But i am not sure how to use it.. Do we need to exchange this token? what excatly to do with this token? Is it a sessionToken? Please provide some inputs, I am badly stuck with this problem from last 3 days, Prashant C

  • error: invalid type argument of '->' (have 'struct node')

    - by Roshan S.A
    Why cant i access the pointer "Cells" like an array ? i have allocated the appropriate memory why wont it act like an array here? it works like an array for a pointer of basic data types. #include<stdio.h> #include<stdlib.h> #include<ctype.h> #define MAX 10 struct node { int e; struct node *next; }; typedef struct node *List; typedef struct node *Position; struct Hashtable { int Tablesize; List Cells; }; typedef struct Hashtable *HashT; HashT Initialize(int SIZE,HashT H) { int i; H=(HashT)malloc(sizeof(struct Hashtable)); if(H!=NULL) { H->Tablesize=SIZE; printf("\n\t%d",H->Tablesize); H->Cells=(List)malloc(sizeof(struct node)* H->Tablesize); should it not act like an array from here on? if(H->Cells!=NULL) { for(i=0;i<H->Tablesize;i++) the following lines are the ones that throw the error { H->Cells[i]->next=NULL; H->Cells[i]->e=i; printf("\n %d",H->Cells[i]->e); } } } else printf("\nError!Out of Space"); } int main() { HashT H; H=Initialize(10,H); return 0; } The error I get is as in the title-error: invalid type argument of '->' (have 'struct node').

  • Generic version control strategy for select table data within a heavily normalized database

    - by leppie
    Hi Sorry for the long winded title, but the requirement/problem is rather specific. With reference to the following sample (but very simplified) structure (in psuedo SQL), I hope to explain it a bit better. TABLE StructureName { Id GUID PK, Name varchar(50) NOT NULL } TABLE Structure { Id GUID PK, ParentId GUID (FK to Structure), NameId GUID (FK to StructureName) NOT NULL } TABLE Something { Id GUID PK, RootStructureId GUID (FK to Structure) NOT NULL } As one can see, Structure is a simple tree structure (not worried about ordering of children for the problem). StructureName is a simplification of a translation system. Finally 'Something' is simply something referencing the tree's root structure. This is just one of many tables that need to be versioned, but this one serves as a good example for most cases. There is a requirement to version to any changes to the name and/or the tree 'layout' of the Structure table. Previous versions should always be available. There seems to be a few possibilities to tackle this issue, like copying the entire structure, but most approaches causes one to 'loose' referential integrity. Example if one followed this approach, one would have to make a duplicate of the 'Something' record, given that the root structure will be a new record, and have a new ID. Other avenues of possible solutions are looking into how Wiki's handle this or go a lot further and look how proper version control systems work. Currently, I feel a bit clueless how to proceed on this in a generic way. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated. Thanks leppie

  • TransactionRequiredException on OptimisticLockException

I'm trying to recover from OptimisticLockException, by calling recursively the same method. however, i'm getting TransactionRequiredException. • Combinationally unique MySQL tables

    - by Jack Webb-Heller
    So, here's the problem (it's probably an easy one :P) This is my table structure: CREATE TABLE `users_awards` ( `user_id` int(11) NOT NULL, `award_id` int(11) NOT NULL, `duplicate` int(11) NOT NULL DEFAULT '0', UNIQUE KEY `award_id` (`award_id`) ) ENGINE=MyISAM DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1 So it's for a user awards system. I don't want my users to be granted the same award multiple times, which is why I have a 'duplicate' field. The query I'm trying is this (with sample data of 3 and 2) : INSERT INTO users_awards (user_id, award_id) VALUES ('3','2') ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE duplicate=duplicate+1 So my MySQL is a little rusty, but I set user_id to be a primary key, and award_id to be a UNIQUE key. This (kind of) created the desired effect. When user 1 was given award 2, it entered. If he/she got this twice, only one row would be in the table, and duplicate would be set to 1. And again, 2, etc. When user 2 was given award 1, it entered. If he/she got this twice, duplicate updated, etc. etc. But when user 1 is given award 1 (after user 2 has already been awarded it), user 2 (with award 1)'s duplicate field increases and nothing is added to user 1. Sorry if that's a little n00bish. Really appreciate the help! Jack

  • Java: Embedding Soundbank file in JAR

    - by Pyroclastic
    If I have a soundbank stored in a JAR, how would I load that soundbank into my application using resource loading...? I'm trying to consolidate as much of a MIDI program into the jar file as I can, and the last thing I have to add is the soundbank file I'm using, as users won't have the soundbanks installed. I'm trying to put it into my jar file, and then load it with getResource() in the Class class, but I'm getting an InvalidMidiDataException on a soundbank that I know is valid. Here's the code, it's in the constructor for my synthesizer object: try { synth = MidiSystem.getSynthesizer(); channels = synth.getChannels(); instrument = MidiSystem.getSoundbank(this.getClass().getResource("img/soundbank-mid.gm")).getInstruments(); currentInstrument = instrument[0]; synth.loadInstrument(currentInstrument); synth.open(); } catch (InvalidMidiDataException ex) { System.out.println("FAIL"); instrument = synth.getAvailableInstruments(); currentInstrument = instrument[0]; synth.loadInstrument(currentInstrument); try { synth.open(); } catch (MidiUnavailableException ex1) { Logger.getLogger(MIDISynth.class.getName()).log(Level.SEVERE, null, ex1); } } catch (IOException ex) { Logger.getLogger(MIDISynth.class.getName()).log(Level.SEVERE, null, ex); } catch (MidiUnavailableException ex) { Logger.getLogger(MIDISynth.class.getName()).log(Level.SEVERE, null, ex); }

  • Getting the first of a GROUP BY clause in SQL

    - by Michael Bleigh
    I'm trying to implement single-column regionalization for a Rails application and I'm running into some major headaches with a complex SQL need. For this system, a region can be represented by a country code (e.g. us) a continent code that is uppercase (e.g. NA) or it can be NULL indicating the "default" information. I need to group these items by some relevant information such as a foreign key (we'll call it external_id). Given a country and its continent, I need to be able to select only the most specific region available. So if records exist with the country code, I select them. If, not I want a records with the continent code. If not that, I want records with a NULL code so I can receive the default values. So far I've figured that I may be able to use a generated CASE statement to get an arbitrary sort order. Something like this: SELECT *, CASE region WHEN 'us' THEN 1 WHEN 'NA' THEN 2 ELSE 3 END AS region_sort FROM my_table WHERE region IN ('us','NA') OR region IS NULL GROUP BY external_id ORDER BY region_sort The problem is that without an aggregate function the actual data returned by the GROUP BY for a given row seems to be untameable. How can I massage this query to make it return only the first record of the region_sort ordered groups?

  • need to change TextBox.Text inside TextChanged, something forces form close

    - by Istrebitel
    I am making a TextBox behave like if it could store a null value. In order to do that, i have a variable NullMode that indicates wether the value is stored is Null, and in TextChanged i set that to false, and on specific user action i set it to true and Text to a value that indicates that there is null inside the textbox. Then, based on NullMode, textbox is drawn differently. Now, i have a semaphore-like approach in order to prevent event handle from firing when i dont need it. Here is how it looks: private void input_TextChanged(object sender, EventArgs e) { if (_preventTextBoxEvents) return; _preventTextBoxEvents = true; //if (NullMode) // Text = ""; NullMode = false; ValidateInput(); _preventTextBoxEvents = false; } Now, if i need to set a textbox text to something that should show while in nullmode, i just set _preventTextBoxEvents before i do to true and it works all right. BUT! I need to also remove the text when user tries to input something into the textbox! So i need to set Text to "". Problem is, if i uncomment that, form is closed after the event handler exits. I cannot prevent it (e.Cancel = true in FormClosing doesnt help!) and do not understand what can be causing it. There is no error message too (and i'm not doing try-catch). My logic, when i do Text="". OnTextChanged should fire, it should call my TextChanged and it will see _preventTextBoxEvents is true and exit, so there would be no stack overflow / infinite recursion. What is going on?

  • Strange results from OdbcDataReader reading Sqlite DB

    - by stout
    This method returns some strange results, and was wondering if someone could explain why this is happening, and possibly a solution to get my desired results. Results: FileName = what I'd expect FileSize = what I'd expect Buffer = all bytes = 0 BytesRead = 0 BlobString = string of binary data FieldType = BLOB (what I'd expect) ColumnType = System.String Furthermore, if the file is greater than a few KB, the reader throws an exception stating the StringBuilder capacity argument must be greater than zero (presummably because the size is greater than Int32.MaxValue). I guess my question is how does one properly read large BLOBs from an OdbcDataReader? public static String SaveBinaryFile(String Key) { try { Connect(); OdbcCommand Command = new OdbcCommand("SELECT [_filename_],[_filesize_],[_content_] FROM [_sys_content] WHERE [_key_] = '" + Key + "';", Connection); OdbcDataReader Reader = Command.ExecuteReader(CommandBehavior.SequentialAccess); if (Reader.HasRows == false) return null; String FileName = Reader.GetString(0); int FileSize = int.Parse(Reader.GetString(1)); byte[] Buffer = new byte[FileSize]; long BytesRead = Reader.GetBytes(2, 0, Buffer, 0, FileSize); String BlobString = (String)Reader["_content_"]; String FieldType = Reader.GetDataTypeName(2); Type ColumnType = Reader.GetFieldType(2); return null; } catch (Exception ex) { Tools.ErrorHandler.Catch(ex); return null; } }

  • Generic cast type to primitive.

    - by Nix
    Is there a way to do the below? Imagine a generic result wrapper class. Where you have a type and an associated error list. When there is no result to return to the user we will use boolean to indicate success failure. I want to create a constructor that takes in an error list, and if the list is null or count 0, AND the type is a bool/Boolean i want to set it to true.... Seemingly simple, but amazingly not possible. public class Result<T>{ private T valueObject { get;set;} private List<Error> errors{ get;set;} public Result(T valueObj, List<Error> errorList){ this.valueObject = valueObj; this.errors = errorList; } public Result(List<Error> errors) { this.valueObject = default(ReturnType); if (valueObject is Boolean) { //Wont work compile //(valueObject as Boolean) = ((errors == null) || errors.Count == 0); //Compiles but detaches reference //bool temp = ((bool)(valueObject as object)) ; //temp = ((errors == null) || errors.Count == 0); } this.errors = errors; } } } Am I missing something simple? And in general I would prefer to do it without reflection.

  • How to check if something is stored in CoreData

    - by Terrel Gibson
    Hi I want to be able to tore some information in core data and but i am unsure of how to check if the file was saved properly. I tried using NSLog but it returns null when its called. I have a dictionary which has a uniqueID and a title which I want to save. I pass this in along with the context of the database. I then sort the database to check if it has any duplicates or not, if not then I add the file. +(VacationPhoto*) photoWithFlickrInfo: (NSDictionary*) flickrInfo inManagedObjectContext: (NSManagedObjectContext*) context{ //returns the dictionary NSLog(@"Photo To Store =%@", flickrInfo); VacationPhoto * photo = nil; NSFetchRequest *request = [NSFetchRequest fetchRequestWithEntityName:@"VacationPhoto"]; request.predicate = [NSPredicate predicateWithFormat:@"uniqueID = %@", [flickrInfo objectForKey:FLICKR_PHOTO_ID]]; NSSortDescriptor * descriptor = [NSSortDescriptor sortDescriptorWithKey:@"title" ascending:YES]; request.sortDescriptors = [NSArray arrayWithObject:descriptor]; NSError *error = nil; NSArray *matches = [context executeFetchRequest:request error:&error]; if (!matches || [matches count] > 1) { // handle error } else if ( [matches count] == 0){ photo.title = [flickrInfo objectForKey:FLICKR_PHOTO_TITLE]; //Returns NULL when called NSLog(@"title = %@", photo.title); photo.uniqueID = [flickrInfo objectForKey:FLICKR_PHOTO_ID]; //Returns NULL when called NSLog(@"ID = %@", photo.uniqueID); } else { //If photo already exists this is called photo = [matches lastObject]; } return photo; }

  • Object Oriented Programming Problem

    I'm designing a little CMS using PHP whilst putting OOP into practice. I've hit a problem though. I have a page class, whos constructor accepts a UID and a slug. This is then used to set the properties (unless the page don't exist in which case it would fail). Anyway, I wanted to implement a function to create a page, and I thought ... what's the best way to do this without overloading the constructor. What would the correct way, or more conventional method, of doing this be? My code is below: <?php class Page { private $dbc; private $title; private $description; private $image; private $tags; private $owner; private $timestamp; private $views; public function __construct($uid, $slug) { } public function getTitle() { return $this->title; } public function getDescription() { if($this->description != NULL) { return $this->description; } else { return false; } } public function getImage() { if($this->image != NULL) { return $this->image; } else { return false; } } public function getTags() { if($this->tags != NULL) { return $this->tags; } else { return false; } } public function getOwner() { return $this->owner; } public function getTimestamp() { return $this->timestamp; } public function getViews() { return $this->views; } public function createPage() { // Stuck? } }

  • How to declare a 2D array of 2D array pointers and access them?

    - by vikramtheone
    Hi Guys, How can I declare an 2D array of 2D Pointers? And later access the individual array elements of the 2D arrays. Is my approach correct? void alloc_2D(int ***memory, unsigned int rows, unsigned int cols); int main() { int i, j; int **ptr; int **array[10][10]; for(i=0;i<10;i++) { for(j=0;j<10;j++) { alloc_2D(&ptr, 10, 10); array[i][j] = ptr; } } //After I do this, how can I access the 10 individual 2D arrays? return 0; } void alloc_2D(int ***memory, unsigned int rows, unsigned int cols) { int **ptr; *memory = NULL; ptr = malloc(rows * sizeof(int*)); if(ptr == NULL) { printf("\nERROR: Memory allocation failed!"); } else { int i; for(i = 0; i< rows; i++) { ptr[i] = malloc(cols * sizeof(float)); if(ptr[i]==NULL) { printf("\nERROR: Memory allocation failed!"); } } } *memory = ptr; }

  • Unusual heap size limitations in VS2003 C++

    - by Shane MacLaughlin
    I have a C++ app that uses large arrays of data, and have noticed while testing that it is running out of memory, while there is still plenty of memory available. I have reduced the code to a sample test case as follows; void MemTest() { size_t Size = 500*1024*1024; // 512mb if (Size > _HEAP_MAXREQ) TRACE("Invalid Size"); void * mem = malloc(Size); if (mem == NULL) TRACE("allocation failed"); } If I create a new MFC project, include this function, and run it from InitInstance, it works fine in debug mode (memory allocated as expected), yet fails in release mode (malloc returns NULL). Single stepping through release into the C run times, my function gets inlined I get the following // malloc.c void * __cdecl _malloc_base (size_t size) { void *res = _nh_malloc_base(size, _newmode); RTCCALLBACK(_RTC_Allocate_hook, (res, size, 0)); return res; } Calling _nh_malloc_base void * __cdecl _nh_malloc_base (size_t size, int nhFlag) { void * pvReturn; // validate size if (size > _HEAP_MAXREQ) return NULL; ' ' And (size _HEAP_MAXREQ) returns true and hence my memory doesn't get allocated. Putting a watch on size comes back with the exptected 512MB, which suggests the program is linking into a different run-time library with a much smaller _HEAP_MAXREQ. Grepping the VC++ folders for _HEAP_MAXREQ shows the expected 0xFFFFFFE0, so I can't figure out what is happening here. Anyone know of any CRT changes or versions that would cause this problem, or am I missing something way more obvious?

  • Comparing all properties of an object using expression trees

    - by stringargs
    Hi, I'm trying to write a simple generator that uses an expression tree to dynamically generate a method that compares all properties of an instance of a type to the properties of another instance of that type. This works fine for most properties, like int an string, but fails for DateTime? (and presumably other nullable value types). The method: static Delegate GenerateComparer(Type type) { var left = Expression.Parameter(type, "left"); var right = Expression.Parameter(type, "right"); Expression result = null; foreach (var p in type.GetProperties()) { var leftProperty = Expression.Property(left, p.Name); var rightProperty = Expression.Property(right, p.Name); var equals = p.PropertyType.GetMethod("Equals", new[] { p.PropertyType }); var callEqualsOnLeft = Expression.Call(leftProperty, equals, rightProperty); result = result != null ? (Expression)Expression.And(result, callEqualsOnLeft) : (Expression)callEqualsOnLeft; } var method = Expression.Lambda(result, left, right).Compile(); return method; } On a DateTime? property it fails with: Expression of type 'System.Nullable`1[System.DateTime]' cannot be used for parameter of type 'System.Object' of method 'Boolean Equals(System.Object)' OK, so it finds an overload of Equals that expects object. So why can't I pass a DateTime? into that, as it's convertible to object? If I look at Nullable<T>, it indeed has an override of Equals(object o). PS: I realize that this isn't a proper generator yet as it can't deal with null values, but I'll get to that :)
