• Foolishness Check: PHP Class finds Class file but not Class in the file.

  I'm at a loss here. I've defined an abstract superclass in one file and a subclass in another. I have required the super-classes file and the stack trace reports to find an include it. However, it then returns an error when it hits the 'extends' line: Fatal error: Class 'HTMLBuilder' not found in View/Markup/HTML/HTML4.01/HTML4_01Builder.php on line 7. I had this working with another class tree that uses factories a moment ago. I just added the builder layer in between the factories and the consumer. The factory layer looked almost exactly the same in terms of includes and dependencies. So that makes me think I must have done something silly that's causes the HTMLBuilder.php file to not be included correctly or interpreted correctly or some such. • Binding Entity Framework Collections Simply Using ASP.NET MVC

  To begin with: Using Entity Framework v4.0. ASP.NET MVC 2.0. Visual Studio 2010. I have a model that consists simply of an order & order items. What I want to do is simply bind that model without too much hassle where possible (avoiding type converters, etc). Simply the model looks like this: public class Order { public int ID { get; set; } public string OrderNumber { get; set; } public EntityCollection<OrderItem> Items { get; set; } } public class OrderItem { public int ID { get; set; } public string Qty { get; set; } } This is as simple as I want to keep it. This model is coming directly from the code generated by the entity framework generator. I would prefer to use the model directly from the entity framework (I know there are views saying this is a bad thing, but alas). • Drop down list in menu disappears before able to click

  I've had quite a search through forums looking for a solution for this, but since I don't know coding I'm not sure what applies to me and what doesn't. So, apologies if this is an often solved problem, but I'll greatly appreciate your help! After much trial and error, I've managed to get a drop down list of pages on my navigation bar; however, when I go to click on a sub-page, the entire menu disappears. I've read through other similar problems where there has been an issue with a margin that's too big, but I think my margins are set to '0'. The blog is at: http://swirlstwirlsblog.blogspot.com.au/ I haven't got content in the sub pages but there are there and linked in the html/javascript widget. I've also looked at it in Chrome, Mozilla, and Safari and it's the same issue. I'm also not sure if this is a javascript, css, or html problem, so please be kind in your responses--I'm only new!   Hi, I'm looking for an idiomatic way to get dynamically scoped variables in Clojure (or a similar effect) for use in templates and such. Here is an example problem using a lookup table to translate tag attributes from some non-HTML format to HTML, where the table needs access to a set of variables supplied from elsewhere: (def *attr-table* ; Key: [attr-key tag-name] or [boolean-function] ; Value: [attr-key attr-value] (empty array to ignore) ; Context: Variables "tagname", "akey", "aval" '( ; translate :LINK attribute in <a> to :href [:LINK "a"] [:href aval] ; translate :LINK attribute in <img> to :src [:LINK "img"] [:src aval] ; throw exception if :LINK attribute in any other tag [:LINK] (throw (RuntimeException. (str "No match for " tagname))) ; ... more rules ; ignore string keys, used for internal bookkeeping [(string? akey)] [] )) ; ignore I want to be able to evaluate the rules (left hand side) as well as the result (right hand side), and need some way to put the variables in scope at the location where the table is evaluated. I also want to keep the lookup and evaluation logic independent of any particular table or set of variables. I suppose there are similar issues involved in templates (for example for dynamic HTML), where you don't want to rewrite the template processing logic every time someone puts a new variable in a template. (And without dynamic scoping.) Are there other alternatives to pass along sets of variable bindings declared elsewhere, without the globals required by Clojure's binding? Is there an idiomatic way of doing it, like Ruby's binding or Javascript's function.apply(context)?

• Map wont show rigth in Joomla

  I have the following code of a map using api google, I have tested the code in several html editor and its work perfectly, but when i upload in my web page doesn’t work. The map appears all zoomed in some random point in the ocean. I create an article in Joomla 1.5.20, paste the code. Its shows right in the preview but not in the web page. I disable filtering and use none editor and still won’t work. I don't think adding :member => {...} is the right way doing this. So, can you tell me what to do? I want to have an URL like /teams/new-contest or something. My next question: what to do (after fixing the first problem), to validate presentence of all fields for new_contest.html.erb? In my normal new.html.erb, a user does not need all the data. But in new_contest.html.erb he does. Is there a way to make a validates_presence_of only for one action (in this case new_contest)? UPDATE: Now, I removed my :member part from my routes.rb and wrote: map.new_contest '/teams/contest/new', :controller => 'teams', :action => 'new_contest' Now, clicking on my link, it redirects me to /teams/contest/new - like I wanted - but I get another error called: Called id for nil, which would mistakenly be 4 -- if you really wanted the id of nil, use object_id I think this error is cause of @team at <% form_for @team, :url => { :action => 'create_content_team' } do |f| %> What to do for solving this error?

• MVC 3 AdditionalMetadata Attribute with ViewBag to Render Dynamic UI

  A few months ago I blogged about using Model metadata to render a dynamic UI in MVC 2. The scenario in the post was that we might have a view model where the questions are conditionally displayed and therefore a dynamic UI is needed. To recap the previous post, the solution was to use a custom attribute called [QuestionId] in conjunction with an “ApplicableQuestions” collection to identify whether each question should be displayed. MVC 3 offers a couple of new features that make this scenario more elegant to implement. The first step is to use the new [AdditionalMetadata] attribute which, so far, appears to be an under appreciated new feature of MVC 3. With this attribute, I don’t need my custom [QuestionId] attribute anymore - now I can just write my view model like this: 1: [UIHint("ScalarQuestion")] 2: [DisplayName("First Name")] 3: [AdditionalMetadata("QuestionId", "NB0021")] 4: public string FirstName { get; set; } 5:   6: [UIHint("ScalarQuestion")] 7: [DisplayName("Last Name")] 8: [AdditionalMetadata("QuestionId", "NB0022")] 9: public string LastName { get; set; } 10:   11: [UIHint("ScalarQuestion")] 12: [AdditionalMetadata("QuestionId", "NB0023")] 13: public int Age { get; set; } Thus far, the documentation seems to be pretty sparse on the AdditionalMetadata attribute. It’s buried in the Other New Features section of the MVC 3 home page and, after showing the attribute on a view model property, it just says, “This metadata is made available to any display or editor template when a product view model is rendered. It is up to you to interpret the metadata information.” But what exactly does it look like for me to “interpret the metadata information”? Well, it turns out it makes the view much easier to work with. Here is the re-implemented ScalarQuestion template updated for MVC 3 and Razor: 1: @{ 2: object questionId; 3: ViewData.ModelMetadata.AdditionalValues.TryGetValue("QuestionId", out questionId); 4: if (ViewBag.applicableQuestions.Contains((string)questionId)) { 5: <div> 6: @Html.LabelFor(m => m) 7: @Html.TextBoxFor(m => m) 8: </div> 9: } 10: } So we’ve gone from 17 lines of code (in the MVC 2 version) to about 7-8 lines of code here. The first thing to notice is that in MVC 3 we now have a property called “AdditionalValues” that hangs off of the ModelMetadata property. This is automatically populated by any [AdditionalMetadata] attributes on the property. There is no more need for me to explicitly write Reflection code to GetCustomAttributes() and then check to see if those attributes were present. I can just call TryGetValue() on the dictionary to see if they were present. Secondly, the “applicableQuestions” anonymous type that I passed in from the calling view – in MVC 3 I now have a dynamic ViewBag property where I can just “dot into” the applicableQuestions with a nicer syntax than dictionary square bracket syntax. And there’s no problems calling the Contains() method on this dynamic object because at runtime the DLR has resolved that it is a generic List<string>. At this point you might be saying that, yes the view got much nicer than the MVC 2 version, but my view model got slightly worse.  In the previous version I had a nice [QuestionId] attribute but now, with the [AdditionalMetadata] attribute, I have to type the string “QuestionId” for every single property and hope that I don’t make a typo. Well, the good news is that it’s easy to create your own attributes that can participate in the metadata’s additional values. The key is that the attribute must implement that IMetadataAware interface and populate the AdditionalValues dictionary in the OnMetadataCreated() method: 1: public class QuestionIdAttribute : Attribute, IMetadataAware 2: { 3: public string Id { get; set; } 4:   5: public QuestionIdAttribute(string id) 6: { 7: this.Id = id; 8: } 9:   10: public void OnMetadataCreated(ModelMetadata metadata) 11: { 12: metadata.AdditionalValues["QuestionId"] = this.Id; 13: } 14: } This now allows me to encapuslate my “QuestionId” string in just one place and get back to my original attribute which can be used like this: [QuestionId(“NB0021”)]. The [AdditionalMetadata] attribute is a powerful and under-appreciated new feature of MVC 3. Combined with the dynamic ViewBag property, you can do some really interesting things with your applications with less code and ceremony.

In particular, you learn how to group a list of products by product category. Displaying a grouped list of items in a ListView control requires completing the following steps: Create a Grouped data source from a List data source Create a Grouped Header Template Declare the ListView control so it groups the list items Creating the Grouped Data Source Normally, you bind a ListView control to a WinJS.Binding.List object. If I leave dropdownlist and try to insert wrong date I get following error: System.InvalidOperationException: The ViewData item with the key 'CategoryId' is of type 'System.Int32' but needs to be of type 'IEnumerable'. If I enter correct date than the article is properly inserted. There's one other thing that's confusing me... • Passing XML markers to Google Map

  I've been creating a V3 Google map based on this example from Mike Williams http://www.geocodezip.com/v3_MW_example_map3.html I've run into a bit of a problem though. If I have no parameters in my URL then I get the error "id is undefined idmarkers [id.toLowerCase()] = marker;" in Firebug and only one marker will show up. If I have a parameter (?id=105 for example) then all the sidebar links say 105 (or whatever the parameter in the URL was) instead of their respective label as listed in the XML file and a random infowindow will be opened instead of the window for the id in the URL. • iPhone SDK vs Windows Phone 7 Series SDK Challenge, Part 1: Hello World!

  In this series, I will be taking sample applications from the iPhone SDK and implementing them on Windows Phone 7 Series.  My goal is to do as much of an apples-to-apples comparison as I can.  This series will be written to not only compare and contrast how easy or difficult it is to complete tasks on either platform, how many lines of code, etc., but Id also like it to be a way for iPhone developers to either get started on Windows Phone 7 Series development, or for developers in general to learn the platform. Heres my methodology: Run the iPhone SDK app in the iPhone Simulator to get a feel for what it does and how it works, without looking at the implementation Implement the equivalent functionality on Windows Phone 7 Series using Silverlight. Compare the two implementations based on complexity, functionality, lines of code, number of files, etc. Add some functionality to the Windows Phone 7 Series app that shows off a way to make the scenario more interesting or leverages an aspect of the platform, or uses a better design pattern to implement the functionality. Of course no first post would be allowed if it didnt focus on the hello world scenario.  The iPhone SDK follows that tradition with the Your First iPhone Application walkthrough.  I will say that the developer documentation for iPhone is pretty good.  There are plenty of walkthoughs and they break things down into nicely sized steps and do a good job of bringing the user along.  As expected, this application is quite simple.  It comprises of a text box, a label, and a button.  When you push the button, the label changes to Hello plus the  word you typed into the text box.  Makes perfect sense for a starter application.  Theres not much to this but it covers a few basic elements: Laying out basic UI Handling user input Hooking up events Formatting text     So, lets get started building a similar app for Windows Phone 7 Series! Implementing the UI: UI in Silverlight (and therefore Windows Phone 7) is defined in XAML, which is a declarative XML language also used by WPF on the desktop.  For anyone thats familiar with similar types of markup, its relatively straightforward to learn, but has a lot of power in it once you get it figured out.  Well talk more about that. This UI is very simple.  When I look at this, I note a couple of things: Elements are arranged vertically They are all centered So, lets create our Application and then start with the UI.  Once you have the the VS 2010 Express for Windows Phone tool running, create a new Windows Phone Project, and call it Hello World: Once created, youll see the designer on one side and your XAML on the other: Now, we can create our UI in one of three ways: Use the designer in Visual Studio to drag and drop the components Use the designer in Expression Blend 4 to drag and drop the components Enter the XAML by hand in either of the above Well start with (1), then kind of move to (3) just for instructional value. Line 1: We removed all of the formatting from the StackPanel, except for Margin, as thats all we need.  Since our parent element is a Grid, by default the StackPanel will be sized to fit in that space.  The Margin says that we want to reserve 10 pixels on each side of the StackPanel. Line 2: Weve set the HorizontalAlignment of the TextBox to Stretch, which says that it should fill its parents size horizontally.  We want to do this so the TextBox is always full-width.  We also set TextAlignment to Center, to center the text. Line 3: In contrast to the TextBox above, we dont care how wide the TextBlock is, just so long as it is big enough for its text.  Thatll happen automatically, so we just set its Horizontal alignment to Center.  We also set a Margin above the TextBlock of 100 pixels to bump it down a bit, per the iPhone UI. Line 4: We do the same things here as in Line 3. Heres how the UI looks in the designer: Believe it or not, were almost done! And it does! Comparing against the iPhone Looking at the iPhone example, there are basically three things that you have to touch as the developer: 1) The UI in the Nib file 2) The app delegate 3) The view controller Counting lines is a bit tricky here, but to try to keep this even, Im going to only count lines of code that I could not have (or would not have) generated with the tooling.  Meaning, Im not counting XAML and Im not counting operations that happen in the Nib file with the XCode designer tool.  So in the case of the above, even though I modified the XAML, I could have done all of those operations using the visual designer tool.  And normally I would have, but the XAML is more instructive (and less steps!).  Im interested in things that I, as the developer have to figure out in code.  Im also not counting lines that just have a curly brace on them, or lines that are generated for me (e.g. method names that are generated for me when I make a connection, etc.) So, by that count, heres what I get from the code listing for the iPhone app found here: HelloWorldAppDelegate.h: 6 HelloWorldAppDelegate.m: 12 MyViewController.h: 8 MyViewController.m: 18 Which gives me a grand total of about 44 lines of code on iPhone.  I really do recommend looking at the iPhone code for a comparison to the above. Now, for the Windows Phone 7 Series application, the only code I typed was in the event handler above Main.Xaml.cs: 4 So a total of 4 lines of code on Windows Phone 7.  And more importantly, the process is just A LOT simpler.  For example, I was surprised that the User Interface Designer in XCode doesnt automatically create instance variables for me and wire them up to the corresponding elements.  I assumed I wouldnt have to write this code myself (and risk getting it wrong!).  I dont need to worry about view controllers or anything.  I just write my code.  This blog post up to this point has covered almost every aspect of this apps development in a few pages.  The iPhone tutorial has 5 top level steps with 2-3 sub sections of each. Now, its worth pointing out that the iPhone development model uses the Model View Controller (MVC) pattern, which is a very flexible and powerful pattern that enforces proper separation of concerns.  But its fairly complex and difficult to understand when you first walk up to it.  Here at Microsoft weve dabbled in MVC a bit, with frameworks like MFC on Visual C++ and with the ASP.NET MVC framework now.  Both are very powerful frameworks.  But one of the reasons weve stayed away from MVC with client UI frameworks is that its difficult to tool.  We havent seen the type of value that beats double click, write code! for the broad set of scenarios. Another thing to think about is how many of those lines of code were focused on my apps functionality?.  Or, the converse of How many lines of code were boilerplate plumbing?  In both examples, the actual number of functional code lines is similar.  I count most of them in MyViewController.m, in the changeGreeting method.  Its about 7 lines of code that do the work of taking the value from the TextBox and putting it into the label.  Versus 4 on the Windows Phone 7 side.  But, unfortunately, on iPhone I still have to write that other 37 lines of code, just to get there. 10% of the code, 1 file instead of 4, its just much simpler. Making Some Tweaks It turns out, I can actually do this application with ZERO  lines of code, if Im willing to change the spec a bit.   Problem: Blank email from PHP web application. Confirmed: App works in Linux, has various problems in Windows server environment. Blank emails are the last remaining problem. PHP Version 5.2.6 on the server I'm a librarian implementing a PHP based web application to help students complete their assignments.I have installed this application before on a Linux based free web host and had no problems. Email is controlled by two files, email_functions.php and email.php. While email can be sent, all that is sent is a blank email. My IT department is an ASP only shop, so I can get little to no help there. I also cannot install additional libraries like PHPmail or Swiftmailer. • Batch copy gives errors, xcopy works fine

  I am writing a general file backup program. It searches the drive for files matching a set of types and then writes them to a folder on the desktop. I wrote it using xcopy on Windows XP but upon learning that xcopy was deprecated in favor of robocopy in Vista and newer, still wanting to maintain compatibility I decided to switch to the non-deprecated copy. This is where the problems begin. I'm trying to fix the copy routine. I thought I had everything sorted out, but it doesn't copy anything. My output is zero files copied for every iteration.   I recently had a fault with my broadband connection. It turned out to be a fault with the ISP's or teleco's equipment. My ISP posted this diagnostic, but while I understand it in general, I'd like to to know more about the details. I'm assuming that ATM means Asynchronous Transfer Mode and PPP means Point to Point Protocol.
