  • NSMutableDictionary isn't stick around long enough

    - by Sean Danzeiser
Sorry, beginner here . . . So I create an NSMutableDictionary in my app delegate when the application launches, and then later pass it on to a view controller, as it contains options for the VC like a background image, a url I want to parse, etc. Anyway, i wrote a custom init method for the VC, initWithOptions, where I pass the dictionary on. I'm trying to use this dictionary later on in other methods - so I created a NSMutableDictionary property for my VC and am trying to store the passed options dictionary there. However, when I go to get the contents of that property in later methods, it returns null. If i access it from the init method, it works. heres some sample code: -(id)initWithOptions:(NSMutableDictionary *)options { self = [super init]; if (self) { // Custom initialization self.optionsDict = [[NSMutableDictionary alloc]initWithDictionary:options]; NSLog(@"dictionary in init method %@",self.optionsDict); that NSLog logs the contents of the dictionary, and it looks like its working. then later when I do this: - (void)viewDidLoad { SDJConnection *connection = [[SDJConnection alloc]init]; self.dataArray = [connection getEventInfoWithURL:[dict objectForKey:@"urlkey"]]; NSLog(@"dictionary in connection contains: %@", [dict objectForKey:@"urlkey"]); [_tableView reloadData]; the dictionary returns null. Ive tried adjusting the property attributes, and it didn't work with either strong or retain. Any ideas?? THANKS!!

  • commitAnimations is not resizing my UIImageView subview

    - by AaronG
I have created a UIView as a subview and to that subview I have added a UIImageView as a subview. UIView *viewCreated; UIButton *buttonCreated; UIImageView *imageViewCreated; CGRect myFrame = CGRectMake(0, 0, 1024, 1024); viewCreated = [[UIView alloc] initWithFrame:myFrame]; [viewCreated setTag:intTag]; viewCreated.backgroundColor = [UIColor redColor]; [self.view addSubview:viewCreated]; [self randomize]; UIImage *d1Image = [UIImage imageNamed:[NSString stringWithFormat:@"image%d.png", randomNumber]]; imageViewCreated = [[UIImageView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0.0f,0.0f,1024.0f, 1024.0f)]; [imageViewCreated setImage:[UIImage imageNamed:[NSString stringWithFormat:@"image%d.png", randomNumber]]]; [viewCreated addSubview:imageViewCreated]; //[imageViewCreated release]; return [viewCreated autorelease]; But when this code executes only the first subview is animated and resized. The UiimageView moves 200 pixels to the left but does not get resized. NSLog(@"sender tag %i",[sender tag]); UIView *currentView = [self.view viewWithTag:[sender tag]]; [UIView beginAnimations:nil context:NULL]; [UIView setAnimationDuration:1.5]; currentView.frame = CGRectMake(-200, 0,40, 102); [UIView commitAnimations]; I am pretty sure am I not creating the subviews correctly programmatically, because when I do it in Interface Builder it works as expected. Do I have to do something specific to actually attach the behavior of the second subview to the first subview?

  • Removing NSLog breaks compiler

    - by DVG
Okay, so this is weird I have this code - (void)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView didSelectRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { switch (indexPath.row) { case 1: NSLog(@"Platform Cell Selected"); AddGamePlatformSelectionViewController *platformVC = [[AddGamePlatformSelectionViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"AddGamePlatformSelectionViewController" bundle:nil]; platformVC.context = context; platformVC.game = newGame; [self.navigationController pushViewController:platformVC animated:YES]; [platformVC release]; break; default: break; } } Which works fine. When I remove the NSLog Statement, like so: - (void)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView didSelectRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { switch (indexPath.row) { case 1: //NSLog(@"Platform Cell Selected"); AddGamePlatformSelectionViewController *platformVC = [[AddGamePlatformSelectionViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"AddGamePlatformSelectionViewController" bundle:nil]; platformVC.context = context; platformVC.game = newGame; [self.navigationController pushViewController:platformVC animated:YES]; [platformVC release]; break; default: break; } } I get the following compiler errors /Users/DVG/Development/iPhone/Backlog/Classes/AddGameTableViewController.m:102:0 /Users/DVG/Development/iPhone/Backlog/Classes/AddGameTableViewController.m:102: error: expected expression before 'AddGamePlatformSelectionViewController' /Users/DVG/Development/iPhone/Backlog/Classes/AddGameTableViewController.m:103:0 /Users/DVG/Development/iPhone/Backlog/Classes/AddGameTableViewController.m:103: error: 'platformVC' undeclared (first use in this function) If I just edit out the two // for commenting out that line, everything works swimingly.

  • NSOperation for animation loop causes strange scrolling behaviour

    - by Tricky
Hi, I've created an animation loop which I run as an operation in order to keep the rest of my interface responsive. Whilst almost there, there is still one remaining issue. My UIScrollViews don't seem to be reliably picking up when a user touch ends. What this means is, for example, if a user drags down on a scroll view, when they lift their fingers the scrollview doesn't bounce back into place and the scrollbar remains visible. As if the finger hasn't left the screen. It takes another tap on the scrollview for it to snap to its correct position and the scrollbar to fade away... Here's the loop I created in a subclassed NSOperation: (void)main { NSAutoreleasePool *pool = [[NSAutoreleasePool alloc] init]; NSRunLoop *runLoop = [NSRunLoop currentRunLoop]; _displayLink = [[CADisplayLink displayLinkWithTarget: self selector: @selector(animationLoop:)] retain]; [_displayLink setFrameInterval: 1.0f]; [_displayLink addToRunLoop:[NSRunLoop currentRunLoop] forMode: NSRunLoopCommonModes]; while (![self isCancelled]) { NSAutoreleasePool *loopPool = [[NSAutoreleasePool alloc] init]; [runLoop runMode:NSDefaultRunLoopMode beforeDate:[NSDate distantFuture]]; [loopPool drain]; } [_displayLink invalidate]; [pool release]; } DOes anyone have any idea what might be going on here, and even better how to fix it... Thanks!

  • How can display gif on a subview in iPhone using glgif?

    - by iPhoney
I want to display a gif image on a subview in iPhone. The sample code glgif shows the gif image on the controller's root view, but when I make the following modifications, the application just crashes: IBOutlet UIView *gifView; // gifView is added as a subview of controller's root view //PlayerView *plView = (PlayerView *)self.view; PlayerView *plView = (PlayerView *)gifView; // Load test.gif VideoSource NSString *str = [[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource:@"test" ofType:@"gif"]; FILE *fp = fopen([str UTF8String], "r"); VideoSource *src = VideoSource_init(fp, VIDEOSOURCE_FILE); src->writeable = false; // Init video using VideoSource Video *vid = [[GifVideo alloc] initWithSource:src inContext:[plView context]]; VideoSource_release(src); // Start if loaded if (vid) { [plView startAnimation:vid]; [vid release]; return; } // Cleanup if failed fclose(fp); Now the app crashes in this line: Video *vid = [[GifVideo alloc] initWithSource:src inContext:[plView context]]; with the error message:-[UIView context]: unrecognized selector sent to instance. Any ideas about how to add the plView to the subview properly?

  • MPMoviePlayerView fade in/out of overlay

    - by therobot
I've got a MPMoviePlayerViewController, and I've added an overlay as a subview to the MPMoviePlayerController.view that it controls. Does anyone know if there's an easy way to make my added overlay fade in and out with the rest of the controls? My code to initialize and present the player is: LandscapeMPVC * theMovieViewController = [[LandscapeMPVC alloc] initWithContentURL:sourceURL]; MPMoviePlayerController * theMoviePlayer = [theMovieViewController moviePlayer]; [theMoviePlayer setRepeatMode:MPMovieRepeatModeOne]; [theMoviePlayer setScalingMode:MPMovieScalingModeAspectFit]; [theMoviePlayer setFullscreen:YES]; // Attemps at overlays MPViewOverlayController * overlayCont = [[MPViewOverlayController alloc] init]; [[theMovieViewController view] addSubview:overlayCont.view]; [[NSNotificationCenter defaultCenter] addObserver:self selector:@selector(resetToolbar:) name:MPMoviePlayerPlaybackDidFinishNotification object:theMoviePlayer]; [self presentMoviePlayerViewControllerAnimated:theMovieViewController]; LandscapeMPVC is just a subclass of MoviePlayerViewController where I overwrite the orientation code. When the rest of the controls fade in the movie player, my custom overlay does not. Is there some code in the controller that I need to add, or some notification that is sent? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

  • returning autorelease NSString still causes memory leaks

    - by hookjd
I have a simple function that returns an NSString after decoding it. I use it a lot throughout my application, and it appears to create a memory leak (according to "leaks" tool) every time I use it. Leaks tells me the problem is on the line where I alloc the NSString that I am going to return, even though I autorelease it. Here is the function: -(NSString *) decodeValue { NSString *newString; newString = [self stringByReplacingOccurrencesOfString:@"#" withString:@"$"]; NSData *stateData = [NSData dataWithBase64EncodedString:newString]; NSString *convertState = [[[NSString alloc] initWithData:stateData encoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding] autorelease]; return convertState; } My understanding of [autorelease] is that it should be used in exactly this way... where I want to hold onto the object just long enough to return it in my function and then let the object be autoreleased later. So I believe I can use this function through code like this without manually releasing anything: NSString *myDecodedString = [myString decodeValue]; But this process is reporting leaks and I don't understand how to change it to avoid the leaks. What am I doing wrong?

  • AVAudioPlayer problem regarding song overlaping in iPhone

    - by riteshkumar1905

  • Covert uiiamge into string

    - by Warrior
I am new iphone development. Is there any possibility to covert the uiimage into string and then once again back to image. - (void)imagePickerController:(UIImagePickerController *)picker didFinishPickingImage:(UIImage *)img1 editingInfo:(NSDictionary *)editInfo { [[picker parentViewController] dismissModalViewControllerAnimated:YES]; NSData *data = UIImagePNGRepresentation(img1); NSString *str1; str1 = [[NSString alloc] initWithData:data encoding:NSASCIIStringEncoding]; MyAppAppDelegate *appDelegate = (MyAppAppDelegate *) [[UIApplication sharedApplication] delegate]; [appDelegate setCurrentLink:str1]; EmailPictureViewController *email = [[EmailPictureViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"EmailPictureViewController" bundle:nil]; [self.navigationController pushViewController:email animated:YES]; } so i can use delegate methods to tranfer the image from one view to another view. so i should convert the string once again to image and display it in another view. In Another view - (void)viewDidLoad { MyAppAppDelegate *appDelegate =(MyAppAppDelegate *) [[UIApplication sharedApplication] delegate]; str1 = [appDelegate getCurrentLink]; NSLog(@"The String %@",str1); NSData *aData; aData = [str1 dataUsingEncoding: NSASCIIStringEncoding]; NSLog(@"The String Data %@",aData); NSLog(@"Inside Didload3"); [imgview setImage:[UIImage imageWithData:aData]]; } But this doesn't work for me.Where do i go wrong. Is there any way to solve it?.Please help me out.Thanks.

  • Using ScriptingBridge framework for communicating with Entourage

    - by Subramanian Ganapathy
Hi, The motivation for my question is the following doc, which describes how mail.app could be integrated using ScriptingBridge: http://developer.apple.com/mac/library/samplecode/SBSendEmail/Introduction/Intro.html I tried to apply a similar technique with Entourage as well but could not get any results so far. I understand that using AppleScript would help me solve my problem and mactech.com has extensive documentation for doing so. But i find this ScriptingBridge technique elegant and want to figure why it is not working for me with Entourage. The biggest problem seems to be my inability to create Scripting classes based on their names as it happens in Mail because Entourage has a different interface than Mail as their headers indicate. Could someone please tell me what I am missing or provide any sort of hint on why this wont work? I am also adding sample code ` MicrosoftEntourageApplication * mail = [SBApplication applicationWithBundleIdentifier:@"com.Microsoft.Entourage"]; MicrosoftEntourageOutgoingEmailMessage * emailMessage = [[[mail classForScriptingClass:@"outgoing message"] alloc] initWithProperties: [NSDictionary dictionaryWithObjectsAndKeys: @"my sample subject", @"subject", @"my sample body", @"content", nil]]; //then i create a set of recipients and try to use "to recipient" as the string scripting class id, but MicrosoftEntourageRecipient is returned as nil MicrosoftEntourageRecipient * theRecipient = [[[mail classForScriptingClass:@"to recipient"] alloc] initWithProperties: [NSDictionary dictionaryWithObjectsAndKeys: @"[email protected]", @"address", nil]]; ` I am trying to make the simple thing work, I am not even concentrating on the task I am supposed to do now. I am a Cocoa beginner( and willing to learn ), please excuse an syntactic naivetes and do point them out in the sample code, in addition to answering my question. Best Regards, Subramanian

  • iPhone: Use a view as a transparent overlay with closing button

    - by axooh
I've got a map with three bar buttons for different markers to show up in the map. If I click on a bar button, the specific markers are shown in the map, which already works great. Now I would like to show a transparent overlay (popup window) with the description of the markers after I clicked on a bar button with a button to close the overlay again and show the markers (which are set in the background). The function of the bar button: - (IBAction)routeTwo:(id)sender { // The code for the overlay // ... // remove any annotations that exist [map removeAnnotations:map.annotations]; // Add any annotations which belongs to route 2 [map addAnnotation:[self.mapAnnotations objectAtIndex:2]]; [map addAnnotation:[self.mapAnnotations objectAtIndex:3]]; [map addAnnotation:[self.mapAnnotations objectAtIndex:4]]; [map addAnnotation:[self.mapAnnotations objectAtIndex:5]]; } I tried the following possibilities: 1. Using a modal view controller RouteDescriptionViewController *routeDescriptionView = [[RouteDescriptionViewController alloc] init]; [self presentModalViewController:routeDescriptionView animated:YES]; [routeDescriptionView release]; Works great, but the problem is: The map view in the background is not visible anymore (configuring alpha values of the modal view doesn't change anything). 2. Add RouteDescriptionView as a subview RouteDescriptionViewController *routeDescriptionView = [[RouteDescriptionViewController alloc] init]; [self.view addSubview:routeDescriptionView.view]; [routeDescriptionView release]; Works great as well, but the problem here is: I can't configure a close button on the subview to close/remove the subview (RouteDescriptionView). 3. Using UIAlertView Would work as expected, but the UIAlert is not really customizable and therefore not suitable for my needs. Any ideas how to achieve this?

  • Why is there no autorelease pool when I do performSelectorInBackground: ?

    - by Thanks
I am calling a method that goes in a background thread: [self performSelectorInBackground:@selector(loadViewControllerWithIndex:) withObject:[NSNumber numberWithInt:viewControllerIndex]]; then, I have this method implementation that gets called by the selector: - (void) loadViewControllerWithIndex:(NSNumber *)indexNumberObj { NSAutoreleasePool *arPool = [[NSAutoreleasePool alloc] init]; NSInteger vcIndex = [indexNumberObj intValue]; Class c; UIViewController *controller = [viewControllers objectAtIndex:vcIndex]; switch (vcIndex) { case 0: c = [MyFirstViewController class]; break; case 1: c = [MySecondViewController class]; break; default: NSLog(@"unknown index for loading view controller: %d", vcIndex); // error break; } if ((NSNull *)controller == [NSNull null]) { controller = [[c alloc] initWithNib]; [viewControllers replaceObjectAtIndex:vcIndex withObject:controller]; [controller release]; } if (controller.view.superview == nil) { UIView *placeholderView = [viewControllerPlaceholderViews objectAtIndex:vcIndex]; [placeholderView addSubview:controller.view]; } [arPool release]; } Althoug I do create an autorelease pool there for that thread, I always get this error: 2009-05-30 12:03:09.910 Demo[1827:3f03] *** _NSAutoreleaseNoPool(): Object 0x523e50 of class NSCFNumber autoreleased with no pool in place - just leaking Stack: (0x95c83f0f 0x95b90442 0x28d3 0x2d42 0x95b96e0d 0x95b969b4 0x93a00155 0x93a00012) If I take away the autorelease pool, I get a whole bunch of messages like these. I also tried to create an autorelease pool around the call of the performSelectorInBackground:, but that doesn't help. I suspect the parameter, but I don't know why the compiler complains about an NSCFNumber. Am I missing something? My Instance variables are all "nonatomic". Can that be a problem? UPDATE: I may also suspect that some variable has been added to an autorelease pool of the main thread (maybe an ivar), and now it trys to release that one inside the wrong autorelease pool? If so, how could I fix that? (damn, this threading stuff is complex ;) )

  • How can I initialize a QTMovie object with certain attributes using writable data?

    - by c-had
I'm trying to create an empty QTMovie object that I can add segments to, and then play. This is easy to do with something like: movie = [[QTMovie alloc] initToWritableData:[NSMutableData dataWithCapacity:1048576] error:&error]; I can then use -insertSegmentOfMovie to insert segments from other movies into this one so I can play it back. The problem is that I also need to set a certain attribute when creating the QTMovie object. In particular, I need to set the QTMovieRateChangesPreservePitchAttribute attribute, so that I can alter playback speed during playback without changing pitch. This attribute cannot be written after the movie is initialized. So, I can create the QTMovie object like this: movie = [[QTMovie alloc] initWithAttributes:[NSDictionary dictionaryWithObjectsAndKeys:[NSNumber numberWithBool:YES], QTMovieRateChangesPreservePitchAttribute, nil] error:&error]; Unfortunately, this is not editable. I've tried setting the QTMovieEditableAttribute as well on creation, but it does not help. I still get an exception when I try to insert anything into this movie. I presume this is because there is no writable file or data reference associated with the QTMovie. Any ideas on how to solve this?

  • NSMutableArray Problem - iPhone

    - by David Schiefer
Hi, I'm trying to get a UITableView to read it's data from a file. I've attempted it like this: NSArray *paths = NSSearchPathForDirectoriesInDomains (NSDocumentDirectory, NSUserDomainMask, YES); NSString *documentsDirectory = [paths objectAtIndex:0]; NSString *fullFileName = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%@/entries.plist", documentsDirectory]; self.dataForTable = [[NSMutableArray alloc] initWithContentsOfFile:fullFileName]; This compiles fine, but when saving something to the file in the following snippet, the file is not saved nor anything is written to the array: NSMutableDictionary*userDictionary; userDictionary = [[NSMutableDictionary alloc] init]; [userDictionary setObject:name.text forKey:@"name"]; [userDictionary setObject:email.text forKey:@"email"]; [userDictionary setObject:serial.text forKey:@"serial"]; [userDictionary setObject:notes.text forKey:@"notes"]; [userDictionary setObject:[NSNumber numberWithInt:[licenseType selectedRowInComponent:0]] forKey:@"license_type"]; [userDictionary setObject:[date date] forKey:@"date"]; [userDictionary setObject:[NSNumber numberWithBool:[paymentSwitch isOn]] forKey:@"payment"]; NSString*dirToSaveTo = [NSHomeDirectory() stringByAppendingPathComponent:@"Documents"]; NSString*fileName = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%@.plist",name.text]; NSString*saveName = [dirToSaveTo stringByAppendingPathComponent:fileName]; [userDictionary writeToFile:saveName atomically:NO]; NSArray *paths = NSSearchPathForDirectoriesInDomains (NSDocumentDirectory, NSUserDomainMask, YES); NSString *documentsDirectory = [paths objectAtIndex:0]; NSString *fullFileName = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%@/entries.plist", documentsDirectory]; [self.dataForTable addObject:name.text]; NSLog(@"%@",self.dataForTable); [self.dataForTable writeToFile:fullFileName atomically:YES]; The NSLog just returns (null). The *plist file is never written. What am I doing wrong?

  • Optimization headers for UITableView?

    - by Pask
I have an optimization problem for the headers of a table with plain style. If I use the standard view for the table (the classic gray with titles set by titleForHeaderInSection:) everything is ok and the scrolling is smooth and immediate. When, instead, use this code to set my personal view: - (UIView *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView viewForHeaderInSection:(NSInteger)section { return [self headerPerTitolo:[titoliSezioni objectAtIndex:section]]; } - (UIImageView *)headerPerTitolo:(NSString *)titolo { UIImageView *headerView = [[[UIImageView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(10.0, 0.0, 320.0, 44.0)] autorelease]; headerView.image = [UIImage imageNamed:kNomeImmagineHeader]; headerView.alpha = kAlphaSezioniTablePlain; UILabel * headerLabel = [[[UILabel alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectZero] autorelease]; headerLabel.backgroundColor = [UIColor clearColor]; headerLabel.opaque = NO; headerLabel.textColor = [UIColor whiteColor]; headerLabel.font = [UIFont boldSystemFontOfSize:16]; headerLabel.frame = CGRectMake(10.0,-11.0, 320.0, 44.0); headerLabel.textAlignment = UITextAlignmentLeft; headerLabel.text = titolo; [headerView addSubview:headerLabel]; return headerView; } scrolling is jerky and not immediate (sliding the finger on the screen does not match an immediate shift of the table). I do not know what caused this problem, maybe the fact that every time the method viewForHeaderInSection: is called, the code runs to create a new UIImageView. I tried many ways to solve the problem, such as creating an array of all the necessary view: apart from more time spent loading at startup, there is a continuing problem of low reactivity of the table. 've Attempted by reducing the size of UIImageView positioned from about 66 KB to 4 KB: not only has a deterioration in quality of colors (which distorts a bit 'original graphics), but ... the problem persists! Perhaps you have suggestions about it, or know me obscure techniques that enable me to optimize this aspect of my application ... I apologize for my English, I used Google for translation.

  • NSString writeToFile operation couldn't be completed

    - by Chonch
Hey, I have an xml file in my application bundle. I want to copy it to the documents folder at installation and then, every time the app launches, get the newest version of this file from the Internet. I use this code: // Check if the file exists in the documents folder NSString *documentsPath = [NSSearchPathForDirectoriesInDomains(NSDocumentDirectory, NSUserDomainMask, YES) objectAtIndex:0]; if (![[NSFileManager defaultManager] fileExistsAtPath:[documentsPath stringByAppendingPathComponent:@"fileName.xml"]]) // If not, copy it there (from the bundle) [[NSFileManager defaultManager] copyItemAtPath:[[[NSBundle mainBundle] resourcePath] stringByAppendingPathComponent:@"OriginalFile.xml"] toPath:[documentsPath stringByAppendingPathComponent:@"fileName.xml"] error:nil]; // Get the newest version of the file from the server NSURL *url=[[NSURL alloc] initWithString:@"http://www.sitename.com/webservice.asmx/webserviceName"]; NSString *results = [[NSString alloc] initWithContentsOfURL:url]; // Replace the current version with the newest one, only if it is valid if (results != nil) [results writeToFile:[documentsPath stringByAppendingPathComponent:@"fileName.xml"] atomically:NO encoding:NSStringEncodingConversionAllowLossy error:nil]; The problem is that the writeToFile command always returns NO and the file's contents remain identical to the original file I included in my app bundle. I checked the value of results and it's correct. I also made sure that the app does perform the writeToString command, but still, it always returns NO. Can anybody tell me what I'm doing wrong? Thanks,

  • SOAP Messages on iPhone

Hello everyone !! I have to use several SOAP messages to get data from a web service. I got some examples how to do that but they all have the XML (http://icodeblog.com/2008/11/03/iphone-programming-tutorial-intro-to-soap-web-services/) // ---- LOGIN ----- NSString *soapMessage = [NSString stringWithFormat: @"<?xml version=\"1.0\" encoding=\"utf-8\"?>\n" "<soap12:Envelope xmlns:xsi=\"http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance\" xmlns:xsd=\"http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema\" xmlns:soap12=\"http://www.w3.org/2003/05/soap-envelope\">\n" "<soap12:Body>\n" "<Login xmlns=\"http://tempuri.org/\">\n" "<sUserID>USER</sUserID>\n" "<sUserPw>PASSWORD</sUserPw>\n" "<sDomain>SERVER</sDomain>\n" "</Login>\n" "</soap12:Body>\n" "</soap12:Envelope>\n" ]; NSString *urlToSend = [[NSString alloc] initWithString:@"http://SERVER/DIRECTORY/WSDL_FILE.ASMX"]; NSString *callTOMake = [[NSString alloc] initWithString:@"http://WEBSERVER/Login"]; TWO questions: 1) Does it make sense to read the SOAP Message from a class or a file into xcode?? or sould I just define them thru the code ?? 2) I used SOAPUI & .NET to query the service. It works fine... but when I do it from the iphone simulator it returns the following: 2010-03-10 15:13:54.773 Hello_SOAP[91204:207] soap:ClientServer did not recognize the value of HTTP Header SOAPAction: http://WEBSERVER/DIRECTORY/Login How can I figure out what the issue is that's causing the said error on the simulator??

  • Modal view becomes partly transparent when dismissing?

    - by Jaanus
A completely ordinary setup: UIViewController where I push another UIVC: BlahVc *blah = [[BlahVc alloc] initWithNibName:@"Blah" bundle:nil]; UINavigationController *nav = [[UINavigationController alloc] initWithRootViewController:blah]; blah.delegate = self; [self presentModalViewController:nav animated:YES]; [nav release]; [blah release]; Details about Blah: to support both landscape and portrait with least effort, I built Blah.xib so that inside Blah's main view, call it view A, there is another view B, with width fixed to 320px, that positions itself in the centre of the screen. With portrait iPhone it fills up the whole screen, with landscape there are margins on the side. So far, so good. Autorotate etc works well. Now, to dismiss blah, I use the recommended setup: inside Blah, I do: [self.delegate blahDidCancel:self]; And in the parent VC, I have: - (void)blahDidCancel:(Blah *)blah { [self dismissModalViewControllerAnimated:YES]; } Both view A's and B's backgrounds are opaque white. Problem: as soon as it hits the dismissModalViewControllerAnimated line, view A seems to become transparent, while view B remains white. This is not a problem in portrait since view B still fills up the screen. But in landscape, the result is that view B is still opaque, but has see-through transparent margins on the side (where view A used to be that has now mysteriously become transparent), from where the parent view contents comes through during the dismissing animation. Why does it seem like view A becomes transparent upon dismissing the modal VC?

How do I determine if only just my label was touched?

  • UITapGestureRecognizer recognizing tap after scaling UIView

    - by Bikash Mishra

  • OO Objective-C design with XML parsing

    - by brainfsck
Hi, I need to parse an XML record that represents a QuizQuestion. The "type" attribute tells the type of question. I then need to create an appropriate subclass of QuizQuestion based on the question type. The following code works ([auto]release statements omitted for clarity): QuizQuestion *question = [[QuizQuestion alloc] initWithXMLString:xml]; if( [ [question type] isEqualToString:@"multipleChoiceQuestion"] ) { [myQuestions addObject:[[MultipleChoiceQuizQuestion alloc] initWithXMLString:xml]; } //QuizQuestion.m -(id)initWithXMLString:(NSString*)xml { self.type = ...// parse "type" attribute from xml // parse the rest of the xml } //MultipleChoiceQuizQuestion.m -(id)initWithXMLString:(NSString*)xml { if( self= [super initWithXMLString:xml] ) { // multiple-choice stuff } } Of course, this means that the XML is parsed twice: once to find out the type of QuizQuestion, and once when the appropriate QuizQuestion is initialized. To prevent parsing the XML twice, I tried the following approach: // MultipleChoiceQuizQuestion.m -(id)initWithQuizRecord:(QuizQuestion*)record { self=record; // record has already parsed the "type" and other parameters // multiple-choice stuff } However, this fails due to the "self=record" assignment; whenever the MultipleChoiceQuizQuestion tries to call an instance-method, it tries to call the method on the QuizQuestion class instead. Can someone tell me the correct approach for parsing XML into the appropriate subclass when the parent class needs to be initialized to know which subclass is appropriate?

Hi, I developing an application in which initially choose UINavigationController based application. • iPhone NSCFString leaks in fetchRequest

    - by camilo
In the following code: - (NSMutableArray *) fetchNotesForGroup: (NSString *)groupName { // Variables declaration NSMutableArray *result; NSFetchRequest *fetchRequest; NSEntityDescription *entity; NSSortDescriptor *sortDescriptor; NSPredicate *searchPredicate; NSError *error = nil; // Creates the fetchRequest and executes it fetchRequest = [[[NSFetchRequest alloc] init] autorelease]; entity = [NSEntityDescription entityForName:@"Note" inManagedObjectContext:managedObjectContext]; [fetchRequest setEntity:entity]; sortDescriptor = [[[NSSortDescriptor alloc] initWithKey:@"noteName" ascending:YES] autorelease]; [fetchRequest setSortDescriptors:[NSArray arrayWithObject:sortDescriptor]]; [fetchRequest setReturnsDistinctResults:YES]; searchPredicate = [NSPredicate predicateWithFormat:@"categoryName like %@", groupName]; [fetchRequest setPredicate:searchPredicate]; [fetchRequest setPropertiesToFetch:[NSArray arrayWithObject:@"noteName"]]; result = [[managedObjectContext executeFetchRequest:fetchRequest error:&error] mutableCopy]; // Variables release return result; } ... I Fetch notes for a given categoryName. When I'm running Instruments, it says that a NSCFString is leaking. I know leaks are mean for iPhone developers... but I don't have any idea on how to plug this one. Any clues? All help is welcome. Thanks a lot!

  • UIImagePickerController random behavior

    - by pion
I have the following code snippets: @interface PinRecordNewTableViewController : UITableViewController { } ... @implementation PinRecordNewTableViewController ... - (void)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView didSelectRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { ... PinRecordNewPicture *pinRecordNewPicture = [[PinRecordNewPicture alloc] initWithNibName:@"PinRecordNewPicture" bundle:nil]; pinRecordNewPicture.delegate = self; [self.navigationController pushViewController:pinRecordNewPicture animated:YES]; [pinRecordNewPicture release]; ... } @interface PinRecordNewPicture : UIViewController ... @implementation PinRecordNewPicture ... - (void)picturePicker:(UIImagePickerControllerSourceType)theSource { UIImagePickerController *picker = [[UIImagePickerController alloc] init]; picker.delegate = self; picker.sourceType = theSource; picker.allowsEditing = YES; [self presentModalViewController:picker animated:YES]; [picker release]; } - (IBAction) takePicture:(id)sender { UIImagePickerControllerSourceType source = UIImagePickerControllerSourceTypeCamera; if ([UIImagePickerController isSourceTypeAvailable:source]) { [self picturePicker:source]; } It works 80% of the time -- I could get the picture correctly. The problem is that it occasionally failed to take a picture. When tracing the code, I found out that it occasionally goes to -PinRecordNewTableViewController:viewDidUnload. This is where it fails because it set nil to all ivars. What did I do wrong? Did I miss something so it behaves "randomly"? Thanks in advance for your help.

  • Create a new delegate class for each asynchronous image download?

    - by Charles S.
First, I'm using an NSURLConnection to download JSON data from twitter. Then, I'm using a second NSURLConnection to download corresponding user avatar images (the urls to the images are parsed from the first data download). For the first data connection, I have my TwitterViewController set as the NSURLConnection delegate. I've created a separate class (ImageDownloadDelegate) to function as the delegate for a second NSURLConnection that handles the images. After the tweets are finished downloading, I'm using this code to get the avatars: for(int j=0; j<[self.tweets count]; j++){ ImageDownloadDelegate *imgDelegate = [[ImageDownloadDelegate alloc] init]; Tweet *myTweet = [self.tweets objectAtIndex:j]; imgDelegate.tweet = myTweet; imgDelegate.table = timeline; NSURLRequest* request = [NSURLRequest requestWithURL:[NSURL URLWithString:myTweet.imageURL] cachePolicy:NSURLRequestUseProtocolCachePolicy timeoutInterval:60]; imgConnection = [[NSURLConnection alloc] initWithRequest:request delegate:imgDelegate]; [imgDelegate release]; } So basically a new instance of the delegate class is created for each image that needs to be downloaded. Is this the best way to go about this? But then there's no way to figure out which image is associate with which tweet, correct? The algorithm works fine... I'm just wondering if I'm going about it the most efficient way.
