• shell script over SSH ends unexpectedly after running 'ant build'

  I wrote a shell script that runs on remote host to build source code with 'ant build' command, and then distribute the built binary to other servers. However, right after Ant build is over successfully(I can see the command line output saying Build was successful), the ssh session ends and whatever commands after 'ant build' does not get executed. I'm confused what might be cause of this behavior. I suspected that it might be because the 'ant build' command takes too long time, and SSH somehow quits itself after that long command. But I don't think that's correct since if I just do 'sleep 60' in place of 'ant build' command, it actually execute latter commands as intended. I'm new at shell programming, so I might have made some silly misassumption. Can someone provide a pointer to a possible cause of this problem? • Extending Perforce to use a custom content diff tool for certain file extensions

  I have various custom binary files stored in perforce and for many of the file types I have built a custom diff tool to show the content creators a diff of the actual changes to the file. E.g. If the file holds simple key value pairs as a compressed binary blob the diff tool would load each version into an in memory format and generate a list of additions, deletions and edits to the file presented in a nice clean report view. Much like the built in image diff tool in P4V i'd like to be able to use my own diff tool for certain file extensions within my depot and allow the users to use the existing P4V interface to pick revisions to diff between and examine history. So, I am aware you can write add-ins to P4V but I can't find any documentation on it and I'd like to know if this kind of extension functionality is available in P4V and how to use it?

• Eclipse + PDT hides files extensions

  Eclipse is now hiding file extensions in PDT, in the PHP Explorer. They show up on tabs when the file is opened. This applies to files of all types. While annoying, it didn't become problematic until I started including the .htaccess files in the list. They now show up with no filename at all. I've scoured the prefs and the web looking for a resolution. Anyone had this happen or have an idea of how to fix it? Running Eclipse 3.5.2 PDT 2.1 on MacOS 10.5

  Python interpreter has a Global Interpreter Lock, and it is my understanding that extensions must acquire it in a multi-threaded environment. But Boost.Python HOWTO page says the extension function must release the GIL and reacquire it on exit. I want to resist temptation to guess here, so I would like to know what should be GIL locking patterns in the following scenarios: Extension is called from python (presumably running in a python thread). And extension's background thread calls back into Py_* functions. And a final question is, why the linked document says the GIL should be released and re-acquired?

  I'd like to hear some opinions as to what role, if any, parallel computing approaches, including the potential use of the parallel extensions (June CTP for example), have a in web applications. What scenarios does this approach fit and/or not fit for? My understanding of how exactly IIS and web browsers thread tasks is fairly limited. I would appreciate some insight on that if someone out there has a good understanding. I'm more curious to know if the way that IIS and web browsers work limits the ROI of creating threaded and/or asynchronous tasks in web applications in general. Thanks in advance.

The following statement retrieves Max("invoice_id") var ret = session .CreateCriteria<Invoice>() .SetProjection(Projections.Max("invoice_id")) .UniqueResult(); but in my case the field invoice_id is made in this way: 123452010 where 12345 is the invoice number, and 2010 is the current year. So I need to calculate the Max function only over the first 5 digits. How can I do it?

• Show file extensions in document libraries in Sharepoint 2010

  I've got a Sharepoint site collection with several sub sites each having their own document library. Now I want to add the file extensions to the document names in all those libraries. How should I do this? I've seen tips telling you to modify the onet.xml-file, but they never look like mine do, and furthermore I don't know for sure what happens to that onet.xml-file - does it change the existing libraries? Other tips tell me to use Sharepoint designer, that would mean I'll have to do it for every view in every library, wouldn't it? So I'd prefer doing it from code, where I feel more comfortable and where I can automate the process. So, all I want is to replace the "Name (linked to document with edit menu)" with the "Name (for use in forms)" but still keep the link and the edit menu. I've found I need to use the FileLeafRef-field, but I don't know how! Thankful for any new clues, Sebastian

• How to have a shell script available everywhere I SSH to

  I have a shell script which I simply cannot do without: bar from Theiling Online I use SSH a lot and on a variety of *nix servers. However, I am not a system administrator and usually don't have the time or privileges to install it on every server I connect to. It is apparently a very portable sh script and has command line options to export itself as a shell function, which got me thinking: Could I use one of OpenSSH's subjectively obscure features to export it everywhere I go? My first thought was to assign the source to an environment variable like BAR = "cat -v" and then execute it on the other side as `$BAR`, but 1) I can't even get the cat example to to work locally, 2) I don't know how to put the script's actual multiline source into an environment variable and 3) I have yet to see a machine with PermitUserEnvironment enabled. I guess I could even do with an ssh option to write a file called ~/bar at logon, but a more volatile solution would be better. Calling wget http://.../bar at logon would be unacceptable. Any ideas? P.S. Putty-specific solutions, though I doubt any would exist, are also fine.

  When I run a program from the console, e.g. me@box:~$ firefox I expect the console to log error messages (I think this is std out or std err?) and other items from the program, firefox in this case. But today I notice that bash just opens the program and goes to a new prompt, e.g. me@box:~$ firefox me@box:~$ How do I launch a program from bash such that error messages will be written to the console? Why is it that some programs operate this way by default and others (firefox) do not?

And, actually, I cannot watch Silverlight streams in an acceptable way:the video gets stuck, the HD keeps buffering (I guess), so I have to close the window. Does anybody know if there is a way to fix this or a suitable alternative?

• Firefox consumes too much memory

  I have firefox version 11.0 and am running ubuntu 11.10. Firefox takes upto 850MB RAM with only six or seven tabs opened and all the tabs loaded with light weight websites only. I wonder why would a browser consume so much memory. It keeps increasing its memory consumption over time. I have 3GB RAM and most of the times firefox consumes upto 30% of my memory. How do I fix this? EDIT: The output of the command sudo iotop -oPa as asked by @Jippie

Therefore, I used: find . -type l Running that clears the screen showing "Pattern not found (press RETURN)" at the bottom of the screen. • What is start_daemon?

  I'm trying to understand start_daemon in the following /etc/init.d/nagios-nrpe-server startup script: start) if [ "$INETD" = 1 ]; then exit 1 fi log_daemon_msg "Starting $DESC" "$NAME" start_daemon -p $PIDDIR/nrpe.pid $NICENESS $DAEMON -c $CONFIG -d $DAEMON_OPTS log_end_msg $? ;; In particular, when I start this service it isn't writing a PID file as expected, thus the stop service nagios-nrpe-server command is not working (I need to manually kill the processes). I'm trying to figure out how to trouble shoot the problem, but I can't run start_daemon ... from the command line. I want to reproduce what the script is doing manually so I can work on what the problem is.

(– via MSDN) While making a check-in, Visual Studio 2013 provides you a quick way to search and assign a work item via pending changes section in Team Explorer. However, if you forget to assign the work item during your check-in, things really get cumbersome as Visual Studio does not provide an easy way of assigning. For example, you usually have to open the work item and then link the changeset which involves approx. 7-8 mouse clicks. Now, you will really feel the difficulty if you have to assign work item to multiple changesets, you have to repeat the same steps again. Hence, I decided to develop a small Visual Studio extension to perform this action of linking work item to changeset bit easier. How to use the extension? First, download and install the extension from VS Gallery (Supports VS 2013 Professional and above). Once you install, you will see a new "Link To Work Item" menu item when you right click on a changeset in history window. Clicking Link To Work Item menu, will open a new dialog with which you can search for a work item. As you can see in below screenshot, this dialog displays the search result and also the type of the work item. You can also open work item from this dialog by right clicking on the work item and clicking 'Open'. Finally, clicking Save button, will actually link the work item to changeset. One feature which I think helpful, is you can select multiple changesets from history window and assign the work item to all those changesets.  To summarize the features Directly assign work items to changesets from history window Assign work item to multiple changesets Know the type of the work item before assigning. Open the work item from search results It also supports all default Visual Studio themes. Below is a small demo showcasing the working of this extension. Script works just fine if I call it from terminal, but it doesn't work if executed from crontab using @reboot: #!/usr/bin/env bash #1 make sure we have enough workspaces gconftool-2 --set -t int /apps/metacity/general/num_workspaces 7 #2.
