• Alternative to NV Occlusion Query - getting the number of fragments which passed the depth test

  In "modern" environments, the "NV Occlusion Query" extension provide a method to get the number of fragments which passed the depth test. However, on the iPad / iPhone using OpenGL ES, the extension is not available. What is the most performant approach to implement a similar behaviour in the fragment shader? Some of my ideas: Render the object completely in white, then count all the colors together using a two-pass shader where first a vertical line is rendered and for each fragment the shader computes the sum over the whole row. Then, a single vertex is rendered whose fragment sums all the partial sums of the first pass. Doesn't seem to be very efficient. Render the object completely in white over a black background. Downsample recursively, abusing the hardware linear interpolation between textures until being at a reasonably small resolution. This leads to fragments which have a greyscale level depending on the number of white pixels where in their corresponding region. Is this even accurate enough? ... ?

• problems texture mapping in modern OpenGL 3.3 using GLSL #version 150

  Hi all I'm trying to do texture mapping using Modern OpenGL and GLSL 150. • How can I render a semi transparent model with OpenGL correctly?

  I'm using OpenGL ES 2 and I want to render a simple model with some level of transparency. I'm just starting out with shaders, and I wrote a simple diffuse shader for the model without any issues but I don't know how to add transparency to it. I tried to set my fragment shader's output (gl_FragColor) to a non opaque alpha value but the results weren't too great. It sort of works, but it looks like certain model triangles are only rendered based on the camera position... It's really hard to describe what's wrong so please watch this short video I recorded: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s0JqA0rZabE I thought this was a depth testing issue so I tried playing around with enabling/disabling depth testing and back face culling. Enabling back face culling changes the output slightly but the problem in the video is still there. Enabling/disabling depth testing doesn't seem to do anything. Could anyone explain what I'm seeing and how I can add some simple transparency to my model with the shader? I already created an application on android and submitted it on google play.However, i feel like the excitement in creating application for android or web is gone. What i think i like is to program in c++ language. but i have a doubt mastering it. Because nowadays only a handful of company hire a c++ junior programmer. I think only in gaming industry that they would hire a c++ programmer and has an 3 or more years of xp. While in java there are lots of oppurtuniy especialy for android. and I dont have a plan studying objective c cause i dont have mac. SO what should i realy choose? thank you..

• Multiple Devices connecting to VPN on CentOS server

  I am looking for a solution as to what would be the VPN software for multiple OSes and Devices. I currently have 15 systems to connect to a VPN. I was using Hamachi from LogMeIn but their lack of Android support really upsets me, and their limited support for Linux OSes is also a let down. 90% of my systems are Ubuntu 11+ systems, only 2 are Windows XP. But I also have a few people, maybe 3 that need to connect to it from Android devices. This is where Hamachi has let me down and I want to move to my own VPN solution. The server would be a simple VPS running CentOS. So I need some VPN software that allows connection of those to a Linux based server. I wanted to go with OpenVPN, but I am under the opinion that in any OS you have to have their software to connect to the VPN. Ubuntu supports VPN's out of the gate, but OpenVPN requires extra software to be installed, I don't want this if I can help it. Same with Windows and same with Android. Plus android mostly requires rooted devices for OpenVPN, at least from what I've read. I was looking at maybe L2TP, but I'm not sure how easy it is to get Ubu systems connected with it as I haven't found much on the subject, let alone Window's XP machines. I know Android connects out of the gate to it. I don't know much about L2TP but I know it's a pain to get running in CentOS from what I have read. Now the last option is some sort of software for PPTP but I've never read anything on it and don't know if all systems are compatible with it. What would be your solution to these devices and multiple OSes? OpenVPN seems to be my heading I just don't like it that it always requires software to run and rooted Android Devices. Any solutions for this and install solutions? Maybe a different OS for the server like Ubuntu would make another type of VPN easier?

• In GLSL is it possible to offset vertices based on height map colour?

  I am attempting to generate some terrain based upon a heightmap. The grid-lines are generated in the fragment shader, sorry for any confusion. I have tried multiplying the r value of hmColour by 1000 unfortunately that had no effect. • VMWare Workstation 6.5.5 (64-bit) on Ubuntu 10.04 (64-bit) Odd Problem

  I managed to successfully install VMWare Workstation 6.5.5 (64-bit) on Ubuntu 10.04 (64-bit). It works well and somehow feels faster and snappier than the same exact version on Ubuntu 8.04. However, there is one slight issue, somewhat hurting productivity: When the guest VM is Microsoft Windows (2K, XP), the mouse cursor turn from an arrow to a hand when it hovers over the Task Bar. When the mouse moves, this hand cursor blinks and the system doesn't respond to mouse clicks. When I move the mouse cursor back to the desktop area, it functions normally. That is, the problem exists only in the Task Bar area. Obviously, this makes it very difficult (read: impossible) for me to use the Start Menu, SysTray and the rest of the Task Bar. My workaround for now is to launch programs via their Desktop shortcuts or via the keyboard. Note: The same exact VMWare Workstation 6.5.5 (64-bit) on Ubuntu 8.04 (64-bit) doesn't exhibit this problem. Anyone seen this problem before? Do you know of a solution (or better workaround) to this problem?

• JSF ui:repeat and f:ajax giving wrong value for h:inputText after rerender.

  I have a list of questions and I can display them ok using a ui:repeat, but after clicking the Edit button the rerendered inputText is given the wrong question.id. • Asp.Net MVC 2: How exactly does a view model bind back to the model upon post back?

  Sorry for the length, but a picture is worth 1000 words: In ASP.NET MVC 2, the input form field "name" attribute must contain exactly the syntax below that you would use to reference the object in C# in order to bind it back to the object upon post back. That said, if you have an object like the following where it contains multiple Orders having multiple OrderLines, the names would look and work well like this (case sensitive): This works: Order[0].id Order[0].orderDate Order[0].Customer.name Order[0].Customer.Address Order[0].OrderLine[0].itemID // first order line Order[0].OrderLine[0].description Order[0].OrderLine[0].qty Order[0].OrderLine[0].price Order[0].OrderLine[1].itemID // second order line, same names Order[0].OrderLine[1].description Order[0].OrderLine[1].qty Order[0].OrderLine[1].price However we want to add order lines and remove order lines at the client browser. Apparently, the indexes must start at zero and contain every consecutive index number to N. The black belt ninja Phil Haack's blog entry here explains how to remove the [0] index, have duplicate names, and let MVC auto-enumerate duplicate names with the [0] notation. However, I have failed to get this to bind back using a nested object: This fails: Order.id // Duplicate names should enumerate at 0 .. N Order.orderDate Order.Customer.name Order.Customer.Address Order.OrderLine.itemID // And likewise for nested properties? Anything not having the [0]..[n] AND being consecutive in numbering simply drops off of the return object. Any ideas?

  I have been trying to create a complex form with many nested models, and make it dynamic. Now I found that making a nested model isn't difficult with accepts_nested_attributes_for, but making it nested and dynamic was seemingly impossible if there were multiple nested models. Could anyone shed some light on lines 13 and 16? 13 form_builder.object.class.reflect_on_association(method).klass.new and 16 form_builder.fields_for(method, options[:object], :child_index => "new_#{method}") do |f| From intuition, line 13 instantiates a new object, but why must it do so many method calls? I couldn't find any documentation for the :child_index option on line 16. When the form is created, a very large number is used as an index for new models, whereas existing models are indexed by their id. How does this work?

  I am attempting to connect MySQLWorkbench to a remote MySQL Server. The server has granted access to user@IPAddress However, when I try to connect MySQLWorkbench, it sends user@computername instead. How do I configure the connection to use the IP address instead in MySQLWorkbench? Reference: The remote server is on the local network, so I need to use the local IP address assigned to my client. EDIT What I have tried so far: from the server: mysql -u user@IPAddress -p --host=(ServerIPAddress) Returns: mysql> So that tells me the user account is operational. Furthermore, I confirmed it exists using: select user from mysql.user; returning a table of all users, of which the user I am using is present. I have also opened the port 3306: sbin/iptables -A INPUT -i eth0 -s clientIPAddress -p tcp --destination-port3306 -j ACCEPT Still I encounter Access Denied
