    Hi, can you suggest some good books or online resources (FAQ or articles) to prepare for .NET interviews (.NET concepts, ASP.NET, C# etc) for senior developer role? something to refresh the concepts, not too much detailed. there could be stuff I haven't done before (that applies to everyone), so at least knowing little bit about it, will definitely help. google search shows me some website with lots of QA, but they are not authentic (I found some answers inaccurate). thanks in advance.

  • Exposing a .Net Service

    I have written a Windows Service in .Net and I want to expose the classes to be called by other .Net code. Specifically, I have an API that I want to expose via a DLL that will be placed in the GAC, and I want the DLL in the GAC to use the classes of the .Net Windows Service. I need this architecture as the code in the Windows Service needs to be run as a different user/account as the caller of the API (the account would be created at install time). My plan was to expose the Windows Service classes via COM (regasm.exe to register and tlbexp.exe to create the type library), and then call the classes in the GAC DLL via COM (imported via tlbimp.exe). However I get the following error from tlbimp: TlbImp : error TI0000 : System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException - Type library '' was exported from a CLR assembly and cannot be re- imported as a CLR assembly. This implies to me that my method is not going to easily work. I can only think that I might need a C++ DLL as a bridge for my GAC DLL to invoke the COM calls, but this seems like a nasty solution. I am basically looking for suggestions. Does anyone know how to expose classes of a Windows Service written in .Net to other .Net code?

    Hi all, Could someone tell me if the code below would achieve what I want, which is: Check if the query parameters 'return_path' and/or 'user_state' are present in the query string, and if so append them to the query string of the redirect URI. As I'm not a .NET dev and don't have a server to test this on, I was hoping someone could give me some feedback.     hi i am integrating authorize.net AIM api into my shopping cart. i have a developer account from auth.net and i am working locally. when i do auth.net api call, i get SSL certificate problem, verify that the CA cert is OK. Details: error:14090086:SSL routines:SSL3_GET_SERVER_CERTIFICATE:certificate verify failed i assume it's because i dont have ssl on my local machine. how do i get over this so i can test on my local machine? thank you

  • WCF .Net 4.0 is treating WebProtocolException as an unhandled exception

    Im trying to build an API using WCF and .Net 4, however when I throw the WebProtocolException, it is not displaying a nice error message like it should, instead it is treating it like an unhandled exception. I am using the WebServiceHost2Factory. Has anyone else used WebProtocolException with .net 4? An example of my call is below throw new WebProtocolException(System.Net.HttpStatusCode.BadRequest, "The DateFrom parameter is invalid", new Error() { Code = 6002, Message = "Please ensure your dates are in the following format: yyyy/MM/dd hh:mm:ss" }, null, null);

  • convert server side vb.net to client side javascript

    I've got a function I wrote quite some time ago that works fine, but I'd like to speed up the process and lessen server load by doing the same job in Javascript. I seem to be able to GET textbox values ok, but I can't seem to SET textbox values (I'm'-a JS noob). Can anyone lend a hand in converting my VB.NET code to it's JS equivalent?   • RSA Encrypt in PHP to decrypt in .NET

    In PHP I am RSA encrypting a message to be decrypted by .NET application... but I keep getting a "Bad Key" exception from .NET.... For RSA encryption, I am using PEAR class Crypt_RSA- encrypting with the public key (which is a modulus, exponent pair) I get from working encryption system in .NET... I guess the easiest question would be- does "Bad Key" mean it is not able to decrypt the message whatsoever? IE, it is not encrypted correctly? The harder question is- Is there anything specific about RSA encryption that causes quirks between .NET and PHP?

    I have written a web scraping program to go to a list of pages and write all the html to a file. The problem is that when I pull a block of text some of the characters get written as '?'. How do I pull those characters into my text file?   • .NET 4.0 Implementing OutputCacheProvider

    I am checking out the OutputCacheProvider in ASP.NET 4.0 and using it to store my output cache into the MongoDb database. I am not able to understand the purpose of Add method which is one of the override methods for OutputCacheProvider. The Add method is invoked when you have VaryByParam set to something. So, if I have VaryByParam = "id" then the Add method will be invoked. But after the Add the Set is also invoked and I can insert into the MongoDb database inside the Set method. public override void Set(string key, object entry, DateTime utcExpiry) { // if there is something in the query and use the path and query to generate the key var url = HttpContext.Current.Request.Url; if (!String.IsNullOrEmpty(url.Query)) { key = url.PathAndQuery; } Debug.WriteLine("Set(" + key + "," + entry + "," + utcExpiry + ")"); _service.Set(new CacheItem() { Key = MD5(key), Item = entry, Expires = utcExpiry }); } Inside the Set method I use the PathAndQuery to get the params of the QueryString and then do a MD5 on the key and save it into the MongoDb database. It seems like the Add method will be useful if I am doing something like VaryByParam = "custom" or something. Can anyone shed some light on the Add method of OutputCacheProvider?

I have chosen portobuf-net as it seems to be more stable (porto# is still v0.9 or I would have gone for it). Before I start working on it I wanted to be sure that I can achieve this (serializing data using java implementation and deserializing it using potobuf-net). Or is there any list of methods that are specific to portobuf-net implementation?

    I'm trying to deploy my WCF RIA services application to our in-house server for testing. I've been following the instructions and comments from this blog site: http://timheuer.com/blog/archive/2009/12/10/tips-to-deploy-ria-services-troubleshoot.aspx At the end someone points to this question: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1528324/how-to-solve-a-http-error-404-3-not-found-error I've been trying to run that same tool with .net 4.0 but it keeps giving me an error: [Warning]The HTTP namespace reservation already exists. I am running the version of the exe that I found inside of C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.21006 There is also C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v3.0\Windows Communication Foundation that has (what I assume is) the same exe in it, and I can use it just fine. I've tried to un-install the 3.0 version before installing the 4.0 version, but I am still getting the same warning and failure. Has anyone successfully done this with .net 4.0?

  • Why Won't My ASP.NET Hyperlink Work in IE?

    I'm making a very simple ad button system using ASP.NET 2.0 The advertisment is a 150x150px square that is displayed on "the r house." (Scroll down a little and you'll see the bright green "Angry Octopus" on the right side of the screen.) Now, I am not the administrator of "the r house." Instead, I am the administrator of angryoctopus.net Therefore, I don't have the ability to change the ad display code on a whim. So I gave "the r house" this snippet of code to display our ad nicely, while still allowing me to customize the back-end code on my end: <iframe src="http://www.angryoctopus.net/Content/Ad/150x150.aspx" frameborder="0" width="150" height="150" scrolling="no" style="padding: 0; margin: 0;"></iframe> You'll find this snippet in the page source to "the r house." On my side, the code looks like this: <asp:HyperLink runat="server" NavigateUrl="http://www.angryoctopus.net/" Target="_top"> <asp:Panel ID="pnlMain" runat="server" BackColor="#D1E231" style="padding: 0; margin: 0" Width="150" Height="150"> <asp:Image runat="server" ImageUrl="http://www.angryoctopus.net/Content/Ad/150x150.png" BorderStyle="None" style="padding: 0; margin: 0" /> </asp:Panel> </asp:HyperLink> ... and there's some insignificant back-end C# code for hit-counting. This looks all well and good from the code standpoint, as far as I can tell. Everything works in Firefox and Chrome. Also, everything appears to work in IE8 in all of my tests. I haven't tested IE7. But when you view "the r house" in IE(8) the hyperlink doesn't do anything, and the cursor doesn't indicate that the hyperlink is even there. Although you can see the target URL in the status bar. I've considered the fact that "the r house" uses XHTML 1.0 Strict could be causing problems, but that would probably effect Firefox and Chrome right? (My aspx pages use XHTML 1.0 Transitional) My only other theory is that some random CSS class could be applying a weird attribute to my iframe, but again I would expect that would effect Firefox and Chrome. Is this a security issue with IE? Does anyone know what part of the r house's website could be blocking the hyperlink in IE? And how can I get around this without having to hard code anything on the r house's website? Is there an alternative to iframe that would do the same job without requiring complicated scripting?

    Linq to SQL creates objects which are IQueryable and full of relations. Html Helpers require specific interface objects like IEnumerable<SelectListItem>. What I think could happen: Reuse the objects from Linq to SQL without all the baggage, i.e., return Pocos from the Linq to SQL objects without additional Domain Model classes? Extract objects that easily convert to (or are) Html helper objects like the SelectListItem enumeration? Is there any way to do this without breaking separation of concerns? Some neat oop trick to bridge the needs? For example, if this were within a repository, the SelectListItem wouldn't be there. The select new is a nice way to cut out an object from the Linq to SQL without the baggage but it's still referencing a class that shouldn't be referenced: IEnumerable<SelectListItem> result = (from record in db.table select new SelectListItem { Selected = record.selected, Text= record.Text, Value= record.Value } ).AsEnumerable();

  • What's the best way to learn .NET?

    I've been developing Java EE for quite a while now. I've used WebLogic, Tomcat, Spring, and Hibernate extensively, so I have a mental model of what features are available and how things are developed and deployed. The problem that I have with .NET is that I don't have a clear mapping of its features onto Java EE. Here's what I know so far: Java EE - .NET Java - C# JAR - DLL WAR - ? (deployment in general) EAR - ? (deployment in general) Tomcat - IIS web server JSP - ASP? JDBC - ODBC JMS - MSMQ JTA - Microsoft Transaction Manager So much of the functionality that WebLogic handles appears to be dispersed throughout the Windows OS. My confusion kicks in when I see the waves of books at Borders - VB.NET, ASP.NET, C#, etc. If I'm not a VB programmer, would it be possible to stick with C# and write enterprise apps that are the equivalent of what I'm used to with Java EE? If there were a Top Three list of books to learn from, what would they be? The code behind is connected to the protected void Wizard1_NextButtonClick(object sender, WizardNavigationEventArgs e) event. There are two items on the screen (two rows inside the table). However, when the code tries to read those items, the Items collection is empty! foreach(RepeaterItem region in RegionRepeater.Items) { // Never runs - the RegionRepeater.Items.Count = 0 FileUpload fileUpload = (FileUpload) region.FindControl("FileUpload"); String regionID = ((HiddenField)region.FindControl("RegionID")).Value; ... I've used response.redirect("Thankyou.aspx") a lot in the past I've also used something like this for hiding form controls and outputting a message: outResult.Attributes.Remove("style") outResult.Attributes.Add("style", "display:block;") outEntry.Attributes.Remove("style") outEntry.Attributes.Add("style", "display:none;") For the above you have to consider post backs that may occur if the user click refresh though. Does anybody have a better option? thanks!
