  • JSF - managed bean in variable?

    Hi! Weird question, but i need to find an answer. Is there any way, in which i can manage managed beans in JSP? I`ll try to explain, what i want to do: Imagine, i have JSP page, which, for example, is called document.save.jsp. I have some various documents with different types. Each of them have their own bean. For example: BillDocument.java, OrderDocument.java and ReportDocument.java. BillDocument.java in my jsp is #{billdoc}. OrderDocument.java - #{orddoc}. ReportDocument.java - #{repdoc}. Each of them have method save(). In my JSP i want to call this method, but i need to know, which document it is. In my mind this structure is something like: <% String currentBean = ""; if(document == BillDocument){ currentBean = #{billdoc}; } if(document == OrderDocument){ currentBean = #{orddoc}; } if(document = ReportDocument){ currentBean = #{repdoc}; } %> Then, my Button with save method on it, may be smth like: <h:commandButton action="currentbean.save"/> Is there any way, in which i can store data about bean, which will be used in this button?   • Is there a Java library with 3D spline functions?

    In particular, I need a way to represent a curve/spline that passes through a set of known 3D points, and a way of finding other points on the curve/spline, by subdivision/interpolation. For example, if I have a set of points P0 to PN, I want to find 100 points between P0 and P1 that are on a spline that passes through P0 and P1. I see that Java3D's KBRotPosScaleSplinePathInterpolator performs such a calculation, but it is tied to that API's scenegraph model and I do not see how to return the values I need.

  • removing duplicate strings from a massive array in java efficiently?

    I'm considering the best possible way to remove duplicates from an (Unsorted) array of strings - the array contains millions or tens of millions of stringz..The array is already prepopulated so the optimization goal is only on removing dups and not preventing dups from initially populating!! I was thinking along the lines of doing a sort and then binary search to get a log(n) search instead of n (linear) search. This would give me nlogn + n searches which althout is better than an unsorted (n^2) search = but this still seems slow. (Was also considering along the lines of hashing but not sure about the throughput) Please help! Looking for an efficient solution that addresses both speed and memory since there are millions of strings involved without using Collections API!

  • Can Java ServerSocket and Sockets using ObjectIOStreams lose packets?

    I'm using a ServerSocket on my server and Sockets that use ObjectIOStreams to send serializable objects over the network connection. I'm developing an essentially more financial version of monopoly and thus packets being sent and confirmed as sent/received is required. Do I need to implement my own packet loss watcher or is that already taken care of with (Server)Sockets? I'm primarily asking about losing packets during network blips or whatnot, not full connection error.   • In Java What is the guaranteed way to get a FileLock from FileChannel while accessing a RandomAcces

    I am trying to use FileLock lock(long position, long size,boolean shared) in FileChannel object As per the javadoc it can throw OverlappingFileLockException. When I create a test program with 2 threads lock method seems to be waiting to acquire the lock (both exclusive and non exclusive) But when the number threads increases in the acutal scenario over lapping file lock exception is thrown and processing slows down due the block at File lock table. What is the best way to acquire lock avoiding the OverlappingFileLockException ?

  • Is the Contains Method in java.lang.String Case-sensitive?

    Say I have 2 strings, String s1 = "AbBaCca"; String s2 = "bac"; I want to preform a check returning that s2 is contained within s1. I can do this with: return s1.contains(s2); I am pretty sure that contains() is case sensitive, however I can't determine this for sure from reading the documentation. If it is then I suppose my best method would be something like: return s1.toLowerCase().contains(s2.toLowerCase()); All this aside, does anyone know of another (possibly better) way to accomplish this without caring about case-sensitivity?

  • How can I control the width of JTextFields in Java Swing?

    I am trying to have several JTextFields on a single row, but I don't want them to have the same width. How can I control the width and make some of them wider than others? I want that they together take up 100% of the total width, so it would be good if I could use some kind of weigthing. I have tried with .setColumns() but it doesn't make sense.   • Most Efficient Way of calling an external webservice in Java?

    In one of our applications we need to call the Yahoo Soap Webservice to Get Weather and other related info. I used the wsdl2java tool from axis1.4 and generated th required stubs and wrote a client. I use jsp's use bean to include the client bean and call methods defined in the client which call the yahoo webservice inturn. Now the problem: When users make calls to the jsp the response time of the webservice differs greatly, like for one user it took less then 10 seconds and the other in the same network took more than a minute. I was just wondering if Axis1.4 queues the requests even though the jsps are multithreaded. And finally is there an efficient way of calling the webservice(Yahoo weather). Typically i get around 200 simultaneous requests from my users.

    I have a Vector that holds a number of objects. My code uses a loop to add objects to the Vector depending on certain conditions. My question is, when I add the object to the Vector, is the original object reference added to the vector or does the Vector make a new instance of the object and adds that? For example, in the following code: private Vector numbersToCalculate; StringBuffer temp = new StringBuffer(); while(currentBuffer.length() > i) { //Some other code numbersToCalculate.add(temp); temp.setLength(0); //resets the temp StringBuffer } What I'm doing is adding the "temp" StringBuffer to the numbersToCalculate Vector. Should I be creating a new StringBuffer within the loop and adding that or will this code work? Thanks for the help! Eric

    I am trying to use Horner's rule to convert words to integers. I understand how it works and how if the word is long, it may cause an overflow. My ultimate goal is to use the converted integer in a hash function h(x)=x mod tableSize. My book suggests, because of the overflow, you could "apply the mod operator after computing each parenthesized expression in Horner's rule." I don't exactly understand what they mean by this. Say the expression looks like this: ((14*32+15)*32+20)*32+5 Do I take the mod tableSize after each parenthesized expression and add them together? What would it look like with this hash function and this example of Horner's rule?

    Hi folks, For my trading program, I have a Merchant class. A given Merchant object may or may not have a particular special quality or bundle of special qualities. For example, one Merchant object may have the Stockbroker quality, another Merchant may have the Financial Services and Stockbroker qualities, and another Merchant may have no special qualities at all. My initial thought was to create a HashMap and a Qualities class as follows: Map<Qualities, Boolean> merchantQualities = new HashMap<Qualities, Boolean>(); The only problem is, there are at least 50 possible special qualities for Merchants, such that it would be extremely tiresome to subclass all the qualities from the Quality class. Is there a better way of coding for these optional special qualities and representing them in the Merchants class than a HashMap and subclassing a Qualities class?
