• How to complete remove macbuntu (even by formatting)?

  I just format my root partition (and keep my Home partition), and reinstalled Ubuntu 10.10. But the theme of macbuntu is still there. If I try to run it's "uninstall.sh" even with "--force" I get "The script is not able to determine what version is currently installed" (the version is 10.10). By the way, I also deleted ".macbuntu" from my Home directory, but I'm still not able to uninstall it. Any hint?

  I'm doing work that involves writing code and managing developers in a "special projects" division of a large company. I'd like to define my role better and figure out if there's an industry standard term for what I do, so that it will be easier for me to research best practices and work on a career path What I do all day: A macro that connects an Excel sheet to an Access database is acting funny; I get called in to figure out what's happening and debug it. Someone needs data extracted from a bunch of files on Sharepoint. I figure out a client-side solution because I'm not authorized to do anything server-side and getting IT to do anything would take several months and need a business case. A manager wants a new data entry tool for their team. I interview the manager and team members to work out the functional requirements, then design/develop/test the application. Someone needs a VBA script to crunch some data for their presentation that's due in two hours. I drop everything I'm doing to hack out a quick script and run the analysis, without much in the way of testing. A developer has been hired to build a database for one of the teams, since I'm working on too many different things and don't have time to take this project on in the timeframe required. I direct his work and push him to meet certain deadlines, interview stakeholders to get more info that will help him figure out how to build the necessary forms, and modify the functional requirements of the database to fit in the timeframe. Someone wants to load a set of data into a GIS system and set up an ongoing refresh and reporting of this data set. I facilitate the conversation between the GIS developers and the owners of this data set, and design a demo application as proof of concept. It's kind of an "all-purpose programming and IT management" position, but it's not officially IT because the company has an actual IT department with a rigorously defined system of submitting requests, developing code, and managing projects. What I do, I guess, is more of a handyman job, where stuff falls to me because I'm the geekiest one in the room. Is there a standard term in the software world for what I do?

• curl to itself behind firewall

  I have a server A which is configured behind a firewall and has 30.x.x.x public adress and 172.x.x.x internal address. I'm trying to make a php Curl call from a script located on that server, to the 30.x.x.x external IP of that server but the curl call cannot be resolved. It seems that server A does not have a route to that IP. Did you encounter any similar situations? Any chance to solve it through static routes?

• Installed Ubuntu and lost access to Windows

  I installed it by using a load of unallocated space on a completely separate hard drive than the one Windows is installed to. When I choose Windows on the boot menu I get this: 'Invalid EFI path' Any idea why this is? EDIT: Here is information from boot info script. http://paste.ubuntu.com/1202156/ I think it might be because I have more than 4 partitions on the drive? Although I am not sure what the one labelled as 'unknown' is at all.

  Are there any ad networks that give publishers/websites the ability to display adverts that are chosen by the publisher immediately on page load. Lets say the page loads, and a script inserts certain key words that the ad network uses to search their inventory of adverts and assigns the nearest one with matching tags to the publisher advert area? I know Google's adsense and many other similar services index/reads the pages content and then assign certain advert depending on the content with little or no control by the publisher...   I manually installed ircd-hybrid via it's source, got it up and running perfectly, but was unable to get a init.d script working. So I backed up the config file, removed it and grabbed it from the repository, planning to just copy over the config file and have everything working. The version from the repository seems to be and older version that the one I grabbed from the official ircd-hybrid website, with slightly different config files. Can someone tell me how often the repositories are updated for third party software?

• How do I install and use the cli53 tools on Windows?

  I'm trying to find the simplest way to import a large number of BIND zone files in to Route 53. I've had a quick look at the AWS CLI and AWS Tools for Windows PowerShell but they don't seem to include a zone file import option like the AWS Route53 GUI does. The cli53 utility on the other hand does, but is written in Python and appears to have a series of pre-requisites to get going which I'm having troubles working out for Windows. I can find plenty of examples of setting it up under Linux but only one reference to a PowerShell example here, but it doesn't explain how to install cli53 in the first place. The other option I'm exploring is to use the BIND to Amazon Route 53 Conversion Tool perl script to first convert the zone files to the Route53 CreateHostedZoneRequest XML format and then use the AWS New-R53HostedZone PowerShell cmdlet to import the zones. After the zones have been imported I'll be looking at running a script to validate what has been created in Route53 matches with the existing nameserver prior to updating each domains nameserver records - I was planning on whipping something up using the new PS4.0 Resolve-DnsName cmdlet, but let me know if you have any better suggestions. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated - thanks.   This article hints at being able to unlock a bitlocked drive using: Unlock-BitLocker -MountPoint -Password However, I know diddly squat about Powershell and how to use the Powershell cmdlets to do what I want to do. So, how do I do use the above to do something like the following? Unlock-BitLocker -MountPoint D:\ -Password "password" Currently about as much as I know how to do is start Powershell and that's it. I don't want to learn masses of Powershell to get to the point where I can do this. All that I need to know in enough to know how I can execute the commands that are pointed out in the first link.   I'm writing a powershell v2 script that I'd like to run against a remote server. When I run it, I get the error : Connecting to remote server failed with the following error message : The WinRM client cannot process the request. Unencrypted traffic is currently disabled in the client configuration. Change the client configurati on and try the request again. For more information, see the about_ Remote_Troubleshooting Help topic. I looked at the online help for about _ Remote_Troubleshooting, but it didn't point me towards how to enable unecrypted traffic. Below is the script that I'm using that is causing me problems. Note: I have already run Enable-PSRemoting on the remote machine to allow it to accept incoming requests. • mod perl in apache 2.2 not parsing perl scripts

  Hi, I've set up a fresh Apache 2.2.15 server on windows server 2008 R2 with mod_perl (mod perl v2.0.4 / perl v5.10.1). Mod_perl and Perl 5.10 has been installed and loaded without problems. However, despite my configuration, the mod_perl module is failing to recognize and execute my .pl file, instead opting to print out the perl source instead. What did I do wrong, and how do I make perl process my pl script instead of sending it to the client? • IIS 7 - 403 Access Denied error on wwwroot

  Hi, I'm trying to setup a redirect from http://mail.mydomain.com to https://mail.mydomain.com/owa. I've been unsuccessful in doing this by using IIS's HTTP Redirect so I looked to other options. The one I settled on is to create a default document in the wwwroot folder to handle the redirect. I created a file called index.aspx (and added index.aspx to the list of default documents) and put the following code in it: <script runat="server"> private void Page_Load(object sender, System.EventArgs e) { Response.Status = "301 Moved Permanently"; Response.AddHeader("Location","https://mail.mydomain.com/owa"); } </script> Instead of getting a redirect I get: 403 - Forbidden: Access is denied. You do not have permission to view this directory or page using the credentials that you supplied. I've been trying to find an answer to this but have been unsuccessful so far. One thing I did try was to add the Everyone group to wwwroot with read access. No change. The AppPool for Default Web Site is DefaultAppPool and the Identity is ApplicationPoolIdentity. (I don't know what these things are but maybe knowing this will help you.) Thanks!
