• error when plotting log'd array in matplotlib/scipy/numpy

  I have two arrays and I take their logs. • How to improve the builder pattern?

  Motivation Recently I searched for a way to initialize a complex object without passing a lot of parameter to the constructor. I tried it with the builder pattern, but I don't like the fact, that I'm not able to check at compile time if I really set all needed values. Traditional builder pattern When I use the builder pattern to create my Complex object, the creation is more "typesafe", because it's easier to see what an argument is used for: new ComplexBuilder() .setFirst( "first" ) .setSecond( "second" ) .setThird( "third" ) ... .build(); But now I have the problem, that I can easily miss an important parameter. I can check for it inside the build() method, but that is only at runtime. At compile time there is nothing that warns me, if I missed something. Enhanced builder pattern Now my idea was to create a builder, that "reminds" me if I missed a needed parameter. My first try looks like this: public class Complex { private String m_first; private String m_second; private String m_third; private Complex() {} public static class ComplexBuilder { private Complex m_complex; public ComplexBuilder() { m_complex = new Complex(); } public Builder2 setFirst( String first ) { m_complex.m_first = first; return new Builder2(); } public class Builder2 { private Builder2() {} Builder3 setSecond( String second ) { m_complex.m_second = second; return new Builder3(); } } public class Builder3 { private Builder3() {} Builder4 setThird( String third ) { m_complex.m_third = third; return new Builder4(); } } public class Builder4 { private Builder4() {} Complex build() { return m_complex; } } } } As you can see, each setter of the builder class returns a different internal builder class. Each internal builder class provides exactly one setter method and the last one provides only a build() method. Now the construction of an object again looks like this: new ComplexBuilder() .setFirst( "first" ) .setSecond( "second" ) .setThird( "third" ) .build(); ...but there is no way to forget a needed parameter. The compiler wouldn't accept it. Optional parameters If I had optional parameters, I would use the last internal builder class Builder4 to set them like a "traditional" builder does, returning itself. Questions Is this a well known pattern? Does it have a special name? Do you see any pitfalls? Do you have any ideas to improve the implementation - in the sense of fewer lines of code?

  I'm implementing StructureMap in a multi-tenant ASP.NET MVC application to inject instances of my tenant repositories that retrieve data based on an ITenantContext interface. The Tenant in question is determined from RouteData in a base controller's OnActionExecuting. How do I tell StructureMap to construct TenantContext(tenantID); where tenantID is derived from my RouteData or some base controller property? Base Controller Given the following route: {tenant}/{controller}/{action}/{id} My base controller retrieves and stores the correct Tenant based on the {tenant} URL parameter. Using Tenant, a repository with an ITenantContext can be constructed to retrieve only data that is relevant to that tenant. Based on the other DI questions, could AbstractFactory be a solution?

  I have a legacy rails (version 1.2.3) app which runs without issue on a number of servers (not to mention my local environment). • Extending a DropDownList control

  I have a rather large application that has literally a hundred DDLs with Yes / No ListItems. In an attempt to same myself some time, I created a Custom Control that extends the standard DDL. It all seems to work fine but I am having some issues when assigning the SelectedValue property in code where the selected value does not seem to have an affect on the control. I wonder if I should be adding my items during Init or PagePreLoad? Should I be calling base.OnInit before or after I add the list items? This mostly works but not 100%. • Problem with System.Diagnostics.Process RedirectStandardOutput to appear in Winforms Textbox in real

  I'm having problems with the redirected output from a console application being presented in a Winforms textbox in real-time. The messages are being produced line by line however as soon as interaction with the Form is called for, nothing appears to be displayed. Following the many examples on both Stackoverflow and other forums, I can't seem to get the redirected output from the process to display in the textbox on the form until the process completes. By adding debug lines to the 'stringWriter_StringWritten' method and writing the redirected messages to the debug window I can see the messages arriving during the running of the process but these messages will not appear on the form's textbox until the process completes. Grateful for any advice on this.   I am trying to use Boost Unit Test Framework by building a stand alone library as detailed here: http://www.boost.org/doc/libs/1_35_0/libs/test/doc/components/utf/compilation.html So I created a VC library project containing the mentioned files and build it and it was successful. • Jquery Randomizing within Categories

  Hi, so here is my question in a situation if you will. i have 6 items in div classes which correspond to 3 categories something like this class ="boat" class ="car" class ="bike" class ="blueboat" class ="redcar" class ="greenbike" so is there a jquery/javascript approach with .addClass where when someone clicks on the button "Randomize" it addClass .mine to each one of the 3 categories ie blueboat.mine and redcar.mine and bike.mine but not boat or car or greenbike because they are in the same category? or another situation rather than .addClass use a jquery/javascript so when "Randomize" is clicked to randomly show 3 out of 6 items one in each category of boat,car,bike and hide the rest blueboat,redcar,greenbike. in this situation all 6 items are on the page when document is ready but with the randomize only 3 are left one from each category. please let me know if anyone has any ideas or needs further clarification any help is greatly appreciated. thank you -david

However, when a new BankAccount is created , the insert statement fails with; Cannot insert the value NULL into column 'BankAccountId' The issue appears to be that the child object , AccountRate is created first and since it hasn't yet got an identifier from its uncreated parent , the insert fails. I think i'm correct in saying that if the AccountRate property on BankAccount was a collection i could use the following ? Inverse=True in order to force the parent to be inserted first. Can anyone help me with this? i Really dont want to use a collection as there is only a unidirectional one to one relationship between these tables. Thanks Paul

  I'm using ants propertyregex method to change a property and it works fine up to a point. I'm lossing return characters. Here's what I'm trying to change: cluster.path=\ ${nbplatform.active.dir}/harness:\ ${nbplatform.active.dir}/platform:\ ${nbplatform.active.dir}/nb This is in a .properties file. So I'm trying to change it like this: <propertyregex property="cluster.path" input="${cluster.path}" regexp="nbplatform.active.dir" replace="xplatform.base" global="true" override="true"/> The stuff is replaced but I get: cluster.path= ${xplatform.base}/harness\: ${xplatform.base}/platform\: ${xplatform.base}/nb This brakes logic down the line not controlled by me (Netbeans) that uses the ':' as delimiter. Any idea?

Can anyone give me some light here? How can I improve this code?

You can download it (free and legal) from the authors page (Neil Bartlett): OSGi Book On page 9 and 10 are this pictures: It seems like there is the possibility that our class "Foo" won't use the class "Bar" of foobar.jar, but instead class "Bar" from naughty.jar. Because of the flat and global structure of the Java classpath this could be, but as far as I know you would define a package from where you want to import a certain class: import foobar.Bar This should prevent loading the wrong class, shouldn't it? Of course assuming that the package is called "foobar".

On my local machine (python 2.5, using the default xmlreader expat, running through app engine), it works fine. However, the exact same code and input strings on production app engine servers fail with "not well-formed". • Tail-recursive pow() algorithm with memoization?

  I'm looking for an algorithm to compute pow() that's tail-recursive and uses memoization to speed up repeated calculations. Performance isn't an issue; this is mostly an intellectual exercise - I spent a train ride coming up with all the different pow() implementations I could, but was unable to come up with one that I was happy with that had these two properties. My best shot was the following: def calc_tailrec_mem(base, exp, cache_line={}, acc=1, ctr=0): if exp == 0: return 1 elif exp == 1: return acc * base elif exp in cache_line: val = acc * cache_line[exp] cache_line[exp + ctr] = val return val else: cache_line[ctr] = acc return calc_tailrec_mem(base, exp-1, cache_line, acc * base, ctr + 1) It works, but it doesn't memorize the results of all calculations - only those with exponents 1..exp/2 and exp.
