  • Prevent app from auto-launching in OS X - what are ALL the places to look?

    An app on a Mac that automatically launches on boot and I don't want it to. The app itself offers no way to prevent this. Rather than identify the app, I figured it would be nice to use this question as an opportunity to identify all the places such an app could hide. Here's where I've looked so far, and I still haven't found it: Accounts - Login Items Dock - Open at Login launchd - Cycled through each tab of agents & daemons in Lingon Other ideas?

  • Launching new Chrome window at a certain screen position (osx)

    I have Chrome open most of the time in the lower right corner of my screen and work mostly with tabs. Sometimes I need a new Chrome window (instance) and hit cmd-n. Now the new window always opens up in the upper left and I have to center it. Is there a way to automatically center new chrome windows (or maybe maximize them..)?

    Hi, I am using MacBook Pro (Mac OS X 10.5). On the status bar, check I click the Wireless icon, it said 'Open Network Preferences' And then in the Network Preference, I click 'AirPort' tab, the status said 'Inactive' But the 'Turn AirPort on' is disabled and the Network Name is disabled as well. I have unlocked the preference pane as well. So how can I turn on Airport? Thank you.

    I am trying to add an apple developer certificate for sending Push notifications to my Trusted Root Certification Authorities section. I get an error like so: "The import failed because the store was read only, the store was full or the store did not open correctly" I am logged in as an administrator.     Hello, I was wondering if there are any free / open source solutions that will start and stop a windows service based on load? I have some pubsub subscriber services that do background work which is not critical. Ideally i would like tot be able to automate things so that these services could start if memory/cpu/disk i/o was under a certain threshold and stop gracefully if that threshold was met.   • (Serving PHP) Does Apache2 will create new thread on every connection?

    Based on many online sources, in serving static files, Apache2 will create new thread on every different connection... results in resource hungry But how about serving PHP through Apache2 (mod_php, MPM worker, etc)? Does apache will also open new thread like serving static files? (AFAIK, in nginx php-fpm, we can set the max thread, but I dont know how many connection per thread) I'm planning to use Apache2 in serving PHP, and hope it will be same as nginx PHP-FPM or even better in resource usage and performance.

  • Batch Conversion of PaperPort MAX Files

    I've got a library of MAX files from an old Visioneer Scanner that used ScanSoft PaperPort. I don't have the PC that I used to scan them anymore, and I don't have the CD for PaperPort. Does anyone know of a utility I can use to open and convert .MAX files to something more useful like a JPEG? (I'd prefer something that batch converts -- but if I can get a utility that will even allow one conversion, I could probably figure out how to use AutoHotkey or something like that to automate.)   • Windows 7 boot log missing?

    After hitting F8 before startup and selecting "enable boot logging", I let windows try to start up and blue screen / restart (which I'm currently trying to troubleshoot) - I run the 'repair' function, open a command prompt, and try to find the boot log file, which I expected to be at %SystemRoot%\ntbtlog.txt - but it's not. Where is it? PS - probably makes no difference, but this is windows 7 ultimate 64bit to be precise.

Another web site suggested the following For Windows 7, the folder should be Users[username]\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\QuickStyles. Open Word File options advanced Scroll all the way down to section titled “General” Click “File locations” Click “User templates” – this will bring you to templates but also quick styles folder I have no Quick Styles Folder in my Roaming file locations

  • Web-based disk space visualizer

    I have a number of Linux webservers for which I'd like to track where disk space is going and keep disk space to a minimum. Typically I login on SSH and use du to find out where disk space is wasted but this is cumbersome and slow. A visualisation tool like KDirStat would be ideal, but it requires installing an X server at the very least, which kind of defeats the purpose. Is there any web-based disk space visualizer? I'm open to alternative solutions.
