  • Windows XP update not working

    I have a problem with XP updating. It hangs when I try to search for updates on the website. But the automatic updates still work. And it's running IE6, so I'm trying to update to IE8, hoping that will fix the problems with the website. But when installing IE8 it just hangs at Installing Internet Explorer 8 for Windows XP And if I try to install it manually, it hangs when installing the updates for IE8. So looking at these logs, is there anything going wrong with the update process? Is there a service like bugmenot that doesn't block sites? EDIT: For example, all of these sites require registration to download files, and all of them are blocked from BugMeNot. To be clear, this problem is because BugMeNot stops users from adding logins for them, not because of the individual sites themselves: dcemu.co.uk, ubuntuforums.org, club.cdfreaks.com

    I am struggling with a strange error when I try to commit my repository. I have a V-server with webmin installed on it. Via Webmin I installed an svn module, created repositories and everything worked fine until three days ago. Trying to commit brings the following error: Commit failed (details follow): Server sent unexpected return value (503 Service unavailable) in response to PROPFIND request for '/svn/rle/!svn/wrk/a1f963a7-0a33-fa48-bfde-183ea06ab958/RLE/.htaccess' Server sent unexpected return value (503 Service unavailable) in response to PROPFIND request for '/svn/rle/RLE/.htaccess' I google everywhere and found only very few solutions. One indicated that a wrong error document is set, another one dealt about the problem that filenames might cause this error and last but not least a wrong proxy configuration in the local svn config could be the reason. After trying all of the solutions suggested I could not reach anything. Only after a server reboot there was a little difference in the error-message, telling me that the server was not able to move a temp file, because the operation was permitted. So I also controlled the permissions of the svn directory, but also with no success. An svn update than restored the "normal" error from above and nothing changed since then. The only change I made on the server, I guess that this could be the reason why svn does not work anymore, was to install the php5_mysql module for apache via apt-get install php5_mysql. Atg the moment I have totally no idea where I could search. I don't know if the problem is on my server or in my repository and I would be glad to get any hint to solve this. My current backup solution involves Backup Exec 11D but this requires a running service for windows boxes or a similar daemon for linux machines. The N5200 runs a custom linux kernel but as of yet I am unable to add it to my backups through Backup Exec. Does anyone know of a method of backing up directly from the N5200 to Backup Exec without moving the data to an intermediary for archiving?

    I've set up a "Service Jail" in FreeBSD 8.0 according to the FreeBSD Handbook (http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/handbook/jails-application.html). After upgrading the host to the latest patch level and then performed a jail-upgrade, freebsd-fetch still reports that there are files in need of an update in the jail. Is this expected? Then how do I know if a jail is up to date? This is what I've done in more detail: After the initial setup of the jail freebsd-update fetch reported that there were no updates available neither in the host system nor in the jail. This was expected. A while later freebsd-update fetch reported that the following files where in need of an update both in the host and in the jail. /usr/lib/libssl.a /usr/lib/libssl_p.a /usr/lib/libzpool.a /usr/lib32/libssl.a /usr/lib32/libssl_p.a /usr/lib32/libzpool.a I updated the host and followed the upgrade guide for the jail (http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/handbook/jails-application.html#JAILS-SERVICE-JAILS-UPGRADING). freebsd-update fetch now reports that there are no updates available in the host but the following is the output from freebsd-update fetch in the jail: [root@bb /]# freebsd-update fetch Looking up update.FreeBSD.org mirrors... 3 mirrors found. Laptop does not need to be a powerhouse, but it needs to have good bang for the buck (Not a celeron processor, at least 2GB memory, etc) Laptop will be used for school related activities (Homework, classwork, general computer usage).   • Sending text messages from Raspberry Pi via email fails

    I'm using mailx on my raspberry pi to try to send text messages updates for event monitoring. My phone number: 9876543210 My phone's email-to-text gateway address: [email protected] I can 1) Send emails from my raspberry pi to various email addresses. mail -r [email protected] -s "My Subject" [email protected] < body.txt and off it goes and is successfully delivered. 2) Send emails from various email address (not on RPi) using mailx to the above phone-email address and have them delivered as text messages. However, when sending emails to [email protected] from the Raspberry Pi using mailx the emails seem to spiral into the void and are never heard of again (no errors, no undeliverable messages, nothing). Does anyone know what could be causing this to go awry? Something about the basic deployment of the mail server on the pi? EDIT Based on @kobaltz's suggestion, I used sendmail instead. This led to a hang, then an error that stated that I lacked a fully qualified domain name (FQDN). I then used this website's instructions to add a domain name to the RPi. To paraphrase: I have set the FQDN in /etc/hostname: my-host-name.my-domain.com and /etc/hosts: 127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost 192.168.0.5 my-host-name.my-domain.com my-host-name Then add to /etc/mail/sendmail.cf: MASQUERADE_AS(`my-domain.com') MASQUERADE_DOMAIN(`my-host-name.my-domain.com') FEATURE(`masquerade_entire_domain') FEATURE(`masquerade_envelope') I put this in /etc/mail/sendmail.cf, BEFORE the MAILER() lines, ran sendmailconfig, answered Yes to the questions about using the existing files, and restarted sendmail. Emails now have the proper domain name. Progress, however, I am now stuck at the following error: 354 Enter mail, end with "." on a line by itself >>> . 050 <[email protected]>...   • freebsd-update reports an upgraded jail as not upgraded

    I've set up a "Service Jail" in FreeBSD 8.0 according to the FreeBSD Handbook (http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/handbook/jails-application.html). After upgrading the host to the latest patch level and then performed a jail-upgrade, freebsd-fetch still reports that there are files in need of an update in the jail. Is this expected? Then how do I know if a jail is up to date? This is what I've done in more detail: After the initial setup of the jail freebsd-update fetch reported that there were no updates available neither in the host system nor in the jail. This was expected. A while later freebsd-update fetch reported that the following files where in need of an update both in the host and in the jail. /usr/lib/libssl.a /usr/lib/libssl_p.a /usr/lib/libzpool.a /usr/lib32/libssl.a /usr/lib32/libssl_p.a /usr/lib32/libzpool.a I updated the host and followed the upgrade guide for the jail (http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/handbook/jails-application.html#JAILS-SERVICE-JAILS-UPGRADING). freebsd-update fetch now reports that there are no updates available in the host but the following is the output from freebsd-update fetch in the jail: [root@bb /]# freebsd-update fetch Looking up update.FreeBSD.org mirrors... 3 mirrors found. Fetching metadata signature for 8.0-RELEASE from update5.FreeBSD.org... done. Fetching metadata index... done. Inspecting system... done. Preparing to download files... done.   • Can't access server running CentOS 6.3 in vmware

    I just installed CentOS on a vmware machine that uses a bridged connection, installed apache, php and mysql, but when I run service httpd start I get a warning(?): Starting httpd: httpd: Could not reliably determine the server's fully qualified domain name, using localhost.localdomain for ServerName I can connect to the server using putty, so I really have no idea why it won't load in the browser. EDIT: Httpd starts successfully, return [ OK ]. Running netstat -tuplen | grep :80 yields: tcp 0 0 :::80 :::* LISTEN 0 40392 15894/httpd I am able to connect with putty to 192.168.0.113, but browser says can't connect to 192.168.0.113
