• getSharedPreferences not working for me with concerns to ListPreferences and Integers

  I'm stuck at a point where I'm trying to get my project to read a preference value (from a ListPreference listing) and then use that value in a basic mathematical subtraction instance. The problem is that the "seek" preference is not being seen by my Java code, and yet the default value is (I've tried the default value with 3000 and now 0). Am i missing something, is there a bug here, known or unknown? • What's the most DRY-appropriate way to execute an SQL command?

  I'm looking to figure out the best way to execute a database query using the least amount of boilerplate code. It's a tiny piece of repetition as it is in the example, but it seems to grow if transactions are being managed manually or timeouts are being altered or anything like that.

• Android Remote Video with Titanium

  Greetings all! I'm trying to play a video that is hosted on our webserver on an android phone. I've already built this for iPhone and it works great. Droid, however is a different issue. Instead of getting video, I'm just getting a black screen, no error or anything. The code I am using is: activeContent = Titanium.Media.createVideoPlayer({ contentURL: content, backgroundColor:'#111', movieControlMode:Titanium.Media.VIDEO_CONTROL_DEFAULT }); win.add(activeContent); activeContent.play(); The video I'm downloading does play on the droid when not using Titanium, so I know its not a format issue. (its an .MP4 incase anyone is wondering.) I've used Titanium SDK's 1.5.1 and am on the continuous build of 1.6.0 from earlier today. using the 2.2 Droid SDK, and Titanium Developer 1.2.2 Does anyone have any thoughts on this? One of the big selling points for android is its ability to pull media from the net, and I'm honestly a little concerned about this shortcoming if its an issue with Titanium.

Here's why: The values of each column in the first time through the loop: col1 is empty (blank) col2 is 3.04016411633586 Second time: col1 is 6 col2 is 2.95722928448829 Third time: col1 is 7 col2 is 2.8763272933077 The first problem happens with col1 in the first iteration. I expect 0-5. The second problem happens at every iteration with col2 where ADO.NET obviously alters the values as it reads them. How to stop this mal-behavior?

• Combining JSON Arrays

  I have 3 json arrays, each with information listed in the same format: Array: ID: NAME: DATA: ID: NAME: DATA: etc... My goal is to combine all 3 arrays into one array, and sort and display by NAME by passing the 3 arrays into a function. • How to count the Chinese word in a file using regex in perl?

  I tried following perl code to count the Chinese word of a file, it seems working but not get the right thing. Any help is greatly appreciated. The Error message is Use of uninitialized value $valid in concatenation (.) or string at word_counting.pl line 21, <FILE> line 21. Total things = 125, valid words = which seems to me the problem is the file format. The "total thing" is 125 that is the string number (125 lines). The strangest part is my console displayed all the individual Chinese words correctly without any problem. • Weird problem with PHP mail() under Linux.

  This is the case when it "works on my machine". Except that my machine is Windows, and the target is some sort of Linux. The idea is that the mail() function puts a newline between the MIME-Version and Content-Type headers, thus breaking the whole thing. • NUnit doesn't work well with Assert.AreEqual

  Hi! I'm new to unit-testing and NUit in particular. I'm just typing some examples from the book which refers to Java and JUnit. But I'm using C# instead. The problem is: I've got a class with overriden methods such as Equals() and GetHashCode(), but when I am trying to compare two objects of this class with Assert.AreEqual() my code is not called, so I get an exception. Assert.True(MyClass.Equals(MyClass2)) does work well. But I don't wanna use this construction instead of Assert.AreEqual(). Where the problem can be? • How do I correcly handle ZoneLocalMapping.ResultType.Ambiguous?

  In my code I try to handle ZoneLocalMapping.ResultType.Ambiguous. The line unambiguousLocalDateTime = localDateTimeMapping.EarlierMapping; throws an InvalidOperationException with message "EarlierMapping property should not be called on a result of type Ambiguous". I have no clue how I should handle it. Can you give me an example?   Hi, I need to decide which configuration framework to use. At the moment I am thinking between using properties files and XML files. My configuration needs to have some primitive grouping, e.g. in XML format would be something like: <configuration> <group name="abc"> <param1>value1</param1> <param2>value2</param2> </group> <group name="def"> <param3>value3</param3> <param4>value4</param4> </group> </configuration> or a properties file (something similar to log4j.properties): group.abc.param1 = value1 group.abc.param2 = value2 group.def.param3 = value3 group.def.param4 = value4 I need bi-directional (read and write) configuration library/framework. Nice feature would be - that I could read out somehow different configuration groups as different objects, so I could later pass them to different places, e.g. - reading everything what belongs to group "abc" as one object and "def" as another. If that is not possible I can always split single configuration object into smaller ones myself in the application initialization part of course. Which framework would best fit for me?

• How can I send rich emails using the user's mail client ?

  I need my .net program to send rich emails (usually containing table data, around 20 columns x 10 rows) using the user's mail infrastructure, allowing him to review/edit the mail before sending it, and storing the mail in his 'sent items' folder. mailto: seems the obvious choice, but unfortunately, it doesn't support neither attachments nor html bodies. It seems some clients support some extra features (e.g. Outlook 97 used to support a &Attach tag, but this is not the case for more recent versions). I could use mailto and try to format the text body to look nice (using tabs, etc), but this isn't really elegant and wouldn't support huge data. using automation seems a very huge task, as I would need to automate dozens of clients (4 or 5 versions of outlook, lotusnotes, thunderbid, etc.) ... This would be a huge task and it's not really my core business ... I could send emails through code and write my own mail form to let the user edit the mail, but this would have a lot of drawbacks : the user would need to manually configure the mail server settings he wouldn't have access to his contact directory the mail wouldn't be sent in his sent items folder This seems a quite common issue, but I haven't found any satisfying solution yet ; does someone knows of a library supporting this (ie containing automation logic for most mainstream email clients?). Or an alternative to mailto ?

• CSS Table Formatting to a HTML Table

  I am attempting to provide CSS formating to two HTML tables, but I cannot. I am setting up a webpage in HTML & CSS (with the CSS in an external sheet) and the layout of the website depends on the tables. There are 2 tables, one for the head and another for the body. They are set up whereas content is situated in one middle column of 60% width, with one column on each side of the center with 20% width each, along with other table formatting. My question is - how can I format the tables in CSS? I successfully formatted them in HTML, but this will not do. This is the CSS code for the tables - each table has the id layouttable: #layouttable{border:0px;width:100%;} #layouttable td{width:20%;vertical-align:top;} #layouttable td{width:60%;vertical-align:top;background-color:#E8E8E8;} #layouttable td{width:20%;vertical-align:top;} The tables in the html document both each have, in respective order, these elements (with content inside not shown): <table id="layouttable"><tr><td></td><td></td><td></td></tr></table> Does anyone have any idea why this CSS is not working, or can write some code to fix it? • Rails ActionCaching with Memcached fragment hit but action gets called anyway

  Hi stackoverflow. I'm running into something strange. I'm using memcached with a caches_action setup. I'm doing this in 4 different controllers. In two of them, it works flawlessly (so far), though admittedly those two controllers are less complicated than the two in which it doesn't seem to work. I'm doing something like this: caches_action :index, :expires_in => 6.hours, :cache_path => Proc.new {|controller| controller.send(:generate_cache_path) }, :layout => false, :if => Proc.new { |c| c.request.format.js? } The intention behind the above is to cache some results that are dependent on the params. my :generate_cache_path method just takes into account some params and session vars and creates a unique key for memcached. I can see in memcached -vv that this is working. What's weird is that I get my request from the rails app for a given key, and I see memcached (with -vv) get the request and send back the response. But then my action runs anyway, and a new value is then set for the same key, even when all the same params are given. I can watch it happen. In the controllers where everything is working, the request is made for the fragment, it gets it, and the action in the controller is halted, and the fragment is passed back. These lines come from the exact same request: Cached fragment hit: views/items/?page=1&rp=10&srtn=created_at&srto=DESC.js And then: Cached fragment miss: views/items/?page=1&rp=10&srtn=created_at&srto=DESC.js I don't know what to make of it, or if I'm doing something stupid. Any help or ideas where I could start looking for trouble would be greatly appreciated.

• Rails can't find my route but it exists!

  Ok I have events that I want to publish/unpublish with an extra action (nonRESTful) I watched Ryan Bates' railscast on this: http://railscasts.com/episodes/35-custom-rest-actions and it got me most of the way. I think the problem is that my route is nested in an /admin section so even though when I run rake routes and get: publish_admin_event PUT /admin/events/:id/publish(.:format) {:controller=>"event_services", :action=>"publish"} This won't work in my /views/admin/index.html.erb file: <%= link_to 'Publish', publish_admin_event(event), :method => :put %> because it claims that path doesn't exist! And neither will this: <%= link_to 'Publish', {:controller => :event_services, :action => :publish}, {:method => :put, :id => event} %> and says that "No route matches {:controller=>"event_services", :action=>"publish"}" so what gives? (And I've tried restarting my server so that isn't it.) EDIT: This DOES work: <%= link_to 'Publish', "/admin/events/" + event.id.to_s + "/publish", :method => :put %> But I'd rather NOT do this.

• JQuery: how to store records id for data from ajax query in dynamicly created html elements

  Probably question title is rather cryptic but I will try to explain myself here so please bare with me :) Let's assume this configuration: server-side is PHP application responding for requests with data (list of items, single item details, etc.) in json format client-side is JQuery application sending ajax request to that PHP app and creating html content corresponding with received data So, for example: client requests "list of all animals with names staring with 'A'", gets the json response from server, and for every "animal" creates some html gizmo like div with animal description or something like that. It doesn't really matter what html element it will be but it has to point exactly to specific record by "containing" id of that record. And here is my dilemma: is it good solution to use "id" property for that? So it would be like: <div id="10" class="animal"> <p> This is animal of very mysterious kind... </p> </div> <div id="11" class="animal"> <p> And this one is very common to our country... </p> </div> where id="10" is of course indication that this is representation of record with id = 10. Or maybe I should store this record id in some custom made tag like <record_id>10</record_id> and leave an "id" strictly for what it was meant to be (css selector)? I need that record id for further stuff like updating database with some user input or deleting some of "animals" or creating new ones or anything that will be needed. All manipulations will be done with JQuery and ajax requests and responses will be visualized also with dynamic creation of html interface. I'm sure that somebody had to deal with that kind of stuff before so I would be grateful for some tips on that topic.

  Hello, I am writing an RSS and Mail reader app in C# (technically MonoTouch). I have run into the issue of parsing DateTimes. Three points. (1) It's silly of me to think that I can actually collect a format list that will cover everything out there. (2) It's wrong! Notice that I'm treating an EST date time as UTC (since .NET seems oblivious to time zones). (3) I don't like using exceptions for logic. I am looking for an existing library (source only please) that is known to handle a bunch of these formats. Also, I would like to keep using UTC DateTimes throughout my code so whatever library is suggested should be able to produce DateTimes. Is there anything out there like this?

  In the web service, I have to bulk insert data in MS Access database. First, There was single complex Insert-Select query,There was no error but app exited after inserting some records. I have divided the query to make it simple and using linq to remove complexity of query. now I am inserting records using for loop. there are approx 10000 records. Again, same problem. I put a breakpoint after loop, but No hit. I have used try catch, but no error found.   Hello All, I have few global methods declared in public class in my asp.net web application. I have habbit of declaring all global methods in public class in following format public static string MethodName(parameters) { } I want to know how it would impact on performance point of view? 1) Which one is Better? Static Method or Non-Static Method? 2) Reason why it is better? Following link shows Non-Static methods are good because, static methods are using locks to be Thread-safe. • Deploying a WAR to tomcat only using a context descriptor

  i need to deploy a web application in WAR format to a remote tomcat6 server. The thing is that i don't want to do that the easy way, meaning not just copy/paste the WAR file to /webapps. So the second choice is to create a unique "Context Descriptor" and pointing this out to the WAR file. (Hope i got that right till here) So i have a few questions: Is the WAR file allowed to be anywhere in the file system? Meaning can i copy the WAR file anywhere in the remote file system, except /webapps or any other folder of the tomcat6 installation? Is there an easy way to test whether the deployment was successful or not? Without using any browser or anything, since i'm reaching to the remote server only via SSH and terminal. (I'm thinking ping?) Is it normal that the startup.sh/shutdown.sh don't exist? I'm not the admin of the server and don't know how the tomcat6 is installed. But i'm sure that in my local tomcat installations these files are in /bin and ready to use. I mean you can still start/restart/stop the tomcat etc., but not with the these -standard?- scripts.
