  • Troubleshooting Blocked Transaction in SQL Server

    - by ChrisD
While troubleshooting a blocked transaction issue recently, I found this code online.  My apologies in not citing its source, but its lost in my browse history some where.   While the transaction is executing and blocked, open a connection to the database containing the transaction and run the following to return both the SQL statement blocked (the Victim), as well as the statement that’s causing the block (the Culprit)   -- prepare a table so that we can filter out sp_who2 results DECLARE @who TABLE(BlockedId INT, Status VARCHAR(MAX), LOGIN VARCHAR(MAX), HostName VARCHAR(MAX), BlockedById VARCHAR(MAX), DBName VARCHAR(MAX), Command VARCHAR(MAX), CPUTime INT, DiskIO INT, LastBatch VARCHAR(MAX), ProgramName VARCHAR(MAX), SPID_1 INT, REQUESTID INT) INSERT INTO @who EXEC sp_who2 --select the blocked and blocking queries (if any) as SQL text SELECT ( SELECT TEXT FROM sys.dm_exec_sql_text( (SELECT handle FROM ( SELECT CAST(sql_handle AS VARBINARY(128)) AS handle FROM sys.sysprocesses WHERE spid = BlockedId ) query) ) ) AS 'Blocked Query (Victim)', ( SELECT TEXT FROM sys.dm_exec_sql_text( (SELECT handle FROM ( SELECT CAST(sql_handle AS VARBINARY(128)) AS handle FROM sys.sysprocesses WHERE spid = BlockedById ) query) ) ) AS 'Blocking Query (Culprit)' FROM @who WHERE BlockedById != ' .'

  • Rollback in Oracle and SQL Server

    - by CatherineRussell
I have an Oracle background. It was interesting to see how rollback handled in Oracle and SQL Server. There is no begin trans in Oracle.  What oracle does is it will store the data in a temporary area called the rollback segments. Untill your issue the commit command the records will be kept there. You can even rollback your update statement by issuing the rollback command. When you issue the commit command the records in the rollback segments are written to the redo log files. The same logic for insert is also applicable except that there is no mirror image of the record kept.   In SQL Server, if you want to be able to roll back statement, you neet to start your statement with a "begin tran" . Then, you can rollback a transaction, if this is needed. begin tran update Person set FirstName = 'Arthur' where PersonId = 10 -- select firstname from Person rollback

  • Another Linq to SQL product, Enzo Multitenant Framework

    - by Ed Gnatiuk
An open source library and full product have been developed for transparently splitting large tables across several databases for performance, similar to database table partitioning.  It is all handled along with the Linq to SQL framework, and looks pretty slick, I will be reviewing the product shortly.  It looks mostly transparent to the developer!  There are other capabilites worth a look.  This looks like it works for azure as well. Here are some links:  http://enzosqlshard.codeplex.com/   http://enzosqlbaseline.com    https://scale.bluesyntax.net   I will be reviewing this and other Linq to SQL libraries soon.

  • How to deploy ASP.NET application with MS SQL server database

    - by Maddy
I want to deploy my website with MS SQL server database. It's my first time and I have never done it before. What I have come to know from my googling is that I must have a domain(.com/.net/.co) and a host(for my web pages .aspx & .cs(confusion here if I can also deploy my database)). Now, I am not getting to where I have to deploy my database. If I also have to buy a seperate SQL Server database or a host consisting of every thing (means I can deploy both my ASP.NET application & database as well).

  • HTG Explains: How Hackers Take Over Web Sites with SQL Injection / DDoS

    - by Jason Faulkner
Even if you’ve only loosely followed the events of the hacker groups Anonymous and LulzSec, you’ve probably heard about web sites and services being hacked, like the infamous Sony hacks. Have you ever wondered how they do it? There are a number of tools and techniques that these groups use, and while we’re not trying to give you a manual to do this yourself, it’s useful to understand what’s going on. Two of the attacks you consistently hear about them using are “(Distributed) Denial of Service” (DDoS) and “SQL Injections” (SQLI). Here’s how they work. • Consolidating SQL Server Error Logs from Multiple Instances Using SSIS

SQL Server hides a lot of very useful information in its error log files. Unfortunately, the process of hunting through all these logs, file-by-file, server-by-server, can cause a problem. Rodney Landrum offers a solution which will allow you to pull error log records from multiple servers into a central database, for analysis and reporting with T-SQL....Did you know that DotNetSlackers also publishes .net articles written by top known .net Authors? We already have over 80 articles in several categories including Silverlight. Take a look: here.

  • inserting or updating values into null textboxes [closed]

    - by tanya
this is my sql table structure create table cottonpurchase ( slipNo int null, purchasedate datetime, farmercode int , farmername varchar (100), villagename varchar (100), basicprice int null, premium int null, totalamountpaid int null, weight int null, totalamountbasic int null, totalamountpremium int null, Yeildestimates int null ) I want to fill in the null values in my sql with actual values and not leave them null but I want to do that from my winforms app form! But if I do that it just adds a new record when what I want is for it to update the record which has, for example, farmercode = 2, farmername = blaah, and so on. I also want to enter this in the same records as in farmercode = 2 and the corresponding corresponding basic price = ... , everytime i do it it ends up making a new record and not in the existing one.

  • Visual C++, CMap object save to blob column

    - by ilansch
I have a MFC CMap object, each object stores 160K~ entries of long data. I need to store it on Oracle SQL. we decided to save it as a blob. since we do not want to make additional table. we also thought about saving it as local file and point the SQL column to that file, but we rather just keep it as blob on the server and clear the table every couple of weeks. The table has a sequential key as ID, and 2 column of time. I need to add the blob column in order to store on every row that CMap. Can you recommend a guide to do so (read/write Map to blob or maybe a clob) ? Thanks.

  • Using UNION in a query with PHP [migrated]

    - by work
I have an SQL query which links 3 tables using UNION: $sql ="(SELECT Drive.DriveID,Ram.Memory from Drive,Ram where Drive.DriveID = Ram.RamID) UNION (SELECT Drive.DriveID,External.Memory from Drive, External where Drive.DriveID = External.ExtID)"; Suppose I want to get Ram.Name as well. How do I do this? If I use Ram.Name in the first SELECT statement it would not produce the correct result. Any method for tackling this? I want to do it using UNION.
