• Windows Platform Installer fails during Orchard Installation

  I'm attempting to install Orchard 1.0 on a Windows 7 box. It has only just been released. I downloaded and installed the Windows Platform Installer and attempted to install Orchard. The error message is just that the application has stopped working and asks if I want to debug or close the application. The event log contains a single error: "The event logging service encountered an error while processing an incoming event published from Microsoft-Windows-Security-Auditing." I tried installing MVC3 and it worked without issue. Has anyone experienced a similar problem?

• how to create multiple selections in text edit box in qt4?

  Qt3.3 used to allow for multiple selections in the QTextEdit widget by calling the setSelection() function and specifying a different selection id (selNum) as the last argument in that function. In Qt4, to create a selection, I do it by creating a QTextCursor object and call the setPosition() or movePosition() methods. I have no problems being able to create a single selection of text. I am, however, unable to find a way to create multiple selections. The methods in Qt4 do not have an argument which allows you to set a selection id, nor can i find any other function in the QTextCursor or QTextEdit which looks like it might allow me to do so. Has this feature been completely removed from Qt4? or has is there a new and different way of doing it? Thanks. Ronny

  I'm using the built-in ajax functionality of MVC2. Basically the user types a search query, and on every key press a set of results for the query is shown. This works fine in almost all cases, but sometimes the server is a bit slow with a single response, and thus the result for the next key stroke is returned before the previous. When the previous key stroke result set is finally returned to the client it will overwrite the results for the newer search query that should actually have been shown. My code follows more or less along these lines: <% using (Ajax.BeginForm("SearchUser", null, new AjaxOptions() { UpdateTargetId = "findUserResults" }, new { id = "findUserAjaxForm" })) {%> Every keystroke submits this form and thus outputs the results in the 'findUserResults' element. • Efficient multiple services exposed over c# .NET remoting using more channels or end points?

  I am using remoting over TCP for a prototype distributed server application where I want to have varying multiple services exposed from each remoting server process. In some cases I want the services running from the same process but I don't want whatever is using the service to care about that. I am wondering is it more efficient to have multiple services in the same process going over the same remoting channel distinguished by endpoint URI/URL or should I be creating new channels on different ports for each service in the same process? Using up ports isn't so much of a problem as the number of services will be low and the network and machine configuration is completely controlled. Also its not clear to me if remoting sends the URI string for every single message or just at connection time, and whether if the remoting framework is intelligent enough to reduce work if calls are made on the same machine and even the same process?   This pattern pops up a lot. It looks like a very verbose way to move what would otherwise be separate named methods into a single method and then distinguished by a parameter. Is there any good reason to have this pattern over just having two methods Method1() and Method2() ? • Extract multiple values from one column in MySql

  I've noticed that MySql has an extensive search capacity, allowing both wildcards and regular expressions. However, I'm in somewhat in a bind since I'm trying to extract multiple values from a single string in my select query. For example, if I had the text "<span>Test</span> this <span>query</span>", perhaps using regular expressions I could find and extract values "Test" or "query", but in my case, I have potentially n such strings to extract. And since I can't define n columns in my select statement, that means I'm stuck. Is there anyway I could have a list of values (ideally separated by commas) of any text contained with span tags? In other words, if I ran this query, I would get "Test,query" as the value of spanlist: select <insert logic here> as spanlist from HtmlPages ...

• Need help with jQuery UI Accordion navigationFilter option

  I'm building an accordion for navigation. Each section of the accordion has a set of links. The firing code looks like this: $(document).ready(function() { $(".selector").accordion({ collapsible: true, active: false, navigation: true }); }); This all worked fine and dandy until one of the links in each set was edited to point to a single file, call it foo.html. So now if you navigate to foo.html, the location.href matches every section of the accordion (since each section has a link to it) and that opens all the sections, defeating the purpose of the accordion. So I'm pretty sure I need to use the navigationFilter option but I've googled the living hell out of it and haven't found any examples of how to build the function associated with it. Help me, Stack Overflow!

• Struct size containing vector<T> different sizes between DLL and EXE..

  I have this situation where an EXE program imports a DLL for a single function call. It works by passing in a custom structure and returning a different custom structure. Up till now it's worked fine until I wanted one of the structs data members to be a vector < MyStruct When I do a sizeof(vector< MyStruct ) in my program I get a size of 20 but when I do it from inside the DLL I get a size of 24. This size inconsistency is causing a ESP pointer error. Can anyone tell me why a Vector < MyStruct would be a different size in the DLL than in the program? I have reverified that my structs in both the DLL and the Program are identical. I would appreciate any help on the subject. Thank you.

  I would like to create an ASP.NET MVC web application which has extensible logic that does not require a re-build. I was thinking of creating a filter which had an instance of the IronPython engine. What I would like to know is: how much overhead is there in creating a new engine during each web request, and would it be a better idea to keep a static engine around? However, if I were to keep a single static engine around, what are the issues I might run into as far as locking and script scope? Is it possible to have multiple scopes in the same IropPython engine so I don't get variable collision and security issues between web requests?

• Prims vs Polys: what are the pros and cons of each?

  I've noticed that most 3d gaming/rendering environments represent solids as a mesh of (usually triangular) 3d polygons. However some examples, such as Second Life, or PovRay use solids built from a set of 3d primitives (cube, sphere, cone, torus etc) on which various operations can be performed to create more complex shapes. So my question is: why choose one method over the other for representing 3d data? I can see there might be benefits for complex ray-tracing operations to be able to describe a surface as a single mathematical function (like PovRay does), but SL surely isn't attempting anything so ambitious with their rendering engine. Equally, I can imagine it might be more bandwidth-efficient to serve descriptions of generalised solids instead of arbitrary meshes, but is it really worth the downside that SL suffers from (ie modelling stuff is really hard, and usually the results are ugly) - was this just a bad decision made early in SL's development that they're now stuck with? Or is it an artefact of what's easiest to implement in OpenGL?

• Adding files to the DPR file vs project paths in Delphi 2010

  We are just migrating from D7 to D2010 and are having a debate about cleaning up the project paths. We have a number of directories with a large number of Pas files that are included on some project paths, but only a few of the files are actually used by any single project. One option is to eliminate the project paths completely and only have all used files in the dpr. The second option is to keep only the needed files in the dpr and have project paths to the directories for the rest of the files. Is there any argument for one option over the other?

  I have runtime dependencies on some external jars that I would like to "rejar" into a single jar. These external dependencies are stored in a external_jars directory, and I'd like to be able to not have to list each one out (e.g., to not need to change my build scripts if my dependencies change). Any thoughts?   I am being sent text files saved in iso88591-1 format that contain accented characters from the Latin-1 range (as well as normal ASCII a-z etc). How to convert these files to utf-8 using C# so that the single-byte accented characters in iso8859-1 become valid utf-8 characters? I have tried to use a StreamReader with ASCIIEncoding, and then converting the ascii string to UTF-8 by instantiating an ascii encoding and a utf8 encoding and then using Encoding.Convert(ascii, utf8, ascii.GetBytes( asciiString) ) — but the accented characters are being rendered as question marks. What step am I missing? Thanks

  I'm trying (as a self-learning exercise) to create a Clojure macro that will generate code to apply a function to a sequence of integers and sum the result, e.g. f(0) + f(1) + f(2) + f(3) This is my attempt: (defmacro testsum [func n] `(fn [x#] (+ ~@( map (fn [i] `(~func x#)) (range n))))) However something seems to go wrong with the x# gensym and I end up with two different versions of x and hence the function doesn't work: (macroexpand '(testsum inc 3)) gives: (fn* ([x__809__auto__] (clojure.core/+ (inc x__808__auto__) (inc x__808__auto__) (inc x__808__auto__)))) This is pretty much exactly what I want apart from the different 809 and 808 versions of x..... What am I doing wrong? I thought that the auto gensym was meant to create a single unique symbol for exactly this kind of purpose? Is there a better way of doing this?

  I would like to be able to pop multiple views from a UITableViewController stack. For example in the Apple DrillDownSave example, when viewing Level 3 to go back to Level 1 or when viewing an Item to go back to Level 2 when a button is pushed. I tried: [self.navigationController.parentViewController.navigationController popViewControllerAnimated: NO]; [self.navigationController popViewControllerAnimated: NO]; and [self.navigationController popViewControllerAnimated: NO]; [self.navigationController.parentViewController.navigationController popViewControllerAnimated: NO]; but these leave me the same place as just a single popViewControllerAnimated:. Is there an easy way to do this?

  I'm building a website using Zend Framework and having trouble implementing modules and custom routes. There are basically two rules: Select a module based on the domain (multiple domains can select a single module) Regardless of domain, select one specific module based on path Examples: domain1.com selects module domain1 domain1.net selects module domain1 domain2.com selects module domain2 both domain1.com/admin and domain2.com/admin select module admin This is the first project where I use ZF, so my experience with the framework is basically non-existent. I have done some dirty hacking in my bootstrapper where I check the domain and than execute Zend_Layout::startMVC() to get the correct layout, but that is messed up when I'm implementing custom routes. So I was wondering what is the best way to go about implementing this?

• How can I bind dynamic data to DataGridTemplateColumn in code?

  I'm using DataGrid from CodePlex. I have objects (ICustomTypeDescriptor) that have properties 'name' 'description' 'c' 'd' and so on (the names are dynamic, and so is the value) and they have information behind them. I have templates for different types. And if I have to list the properties of a single element I can just bind to the values in xaml and use datatemplateselector (in datagridtemplatecolumn) which will pick the correct template. However, when I'm listing several of the elements, how can I use the selectors and the templates? How do I get the correct property bound to the template (two-way)?   I have a table that stores a bunch of diagnosis for a single plan. When the users create a new plan I need to copy over all existing diagnosis's as well. I had thought to try the below but this is obviously not correct. I am guessing that I will need to loop through my oldDiagnosis part, but how? Thanks!
