• Will running aspnet_regiis.exe -ir create any problems?

  Hi there. I've asked a question about changing the version of .Net sites in the IIS. If it affects classic asp sites etc (See Does asp.net setting affect classic asp (IIS 6 settings)) And that seems fine. So my follow-up question is, will running this command get me fired? What it does is changing the default value (and all existing?) of the .net version to 2.0. This wont affect any of the .net sites since they're allready versioned to 2.0. The classic asp pages needs to get its app pools updated so its functionoal with 2.0 but may I run into any other troubles? I've tried doing this on a test environment and no sites whet down during the installation period (from the command) but I did not have any classic asp sites or any .net sites running though (which I should test, come to think about it) but may something else break? Is this command doing anything else? We have some very large sites running and we cannot have downtime periods so I need to be 100% sure that this command is safe. Since all sites go down everytime we change a new sites .net version number we need to get this fix live asap. Any good ideas?

This request eventually timed out without printing anything, which I think exonerates curl from being the issue, so I believe something is going on in web.py which isn't quite right (or at least not sufficiently clear) Any web.py experts got some tips? It is all right in Solvers.xaml because there really is no DockingManager but MainWindow.xaml should work, shouldn't it? How to solve the problem? Note: It seems to me that the files are processed separately and because the file Solvers.xaml contains the error the MainWindow.xaml file also contains the very same error. Note 2: XAML files use AvalonDock library Is there a way how to say that Solvers.xaml is only an extension of another file? Thank you for any help!

• How to limit traffic using multicast over localhost

  I'm using multicast UDP over localhost to implement a loose collection of cooperative programs running on a single machine. The following code works well on Mac OSX, Windows and linux. The flaw is that the code will receive UDP packets outside of the localhost network as well. • RDP through TCP Proxy

  Hi, First time in Stackoverflow and I'm hoping someone can help me. I'm looking at a proof of concept to pass RDP traffic through a TCP Proxy/tunnel which will pass through firewalls using HTTPS. The problem has to do with deploying images to machines and so it can't be assumed that the .NET framework will be present, so C++ is being used at the deployment end of a connection. The basic system I have at present is a program which listens for client connections on a port then passes any data to a WCF service which stores it as a byte array. A deployment machine (using GSoap and C++) polls the WCF service for messages and if it finds them then passes the data onto the target server process via sockets. I know this sounds horrible, but it works for simple test clients and server passing data to and from simple test client and server programs via this WCF/C++/C# proxy layer. But I have to support traffic from RDP, VNC and possibly others, so I need a transparent proxy to do this and am wondering whether the above approach is worth pursuing. I've read up on SSH tunneling and that seems a possibility. My basic question is is it possible to tunnel RDP traffic over HTTPS using custom code. Thanks John

• Fedora14 serial console how-to needed

  Has anyone ever got a serial console working in fedora 14 ? Is it as simple as adding to grub: serial --unit=0 --speed=38400 terminal --timeout=10 serial console and add to the kernel lines: console=tty0 console=ttyS0,38400 ??? If so, this isn't working for me. I have agetty installed, and im using minicom, although i've heard you can also use "screen /dev/ttyUSB0" on the client side. The /etc/init/serial.conf file suggests it should be working, but nothing. Currently getting no joy from any of this after 2 days. Does anyone know a method that definitely works on fedora 14 ? (no /etc/event.d/ needed or such) edit: Client side im using a null modem cable and usb-serial adaptor.

• Java - abstract class, equals(), and two subclasses

  Hello, I have an abstract class named Xpto and two subclasses that extend it named Person and Car. I have also a class named Test with main() and a method foo() that verifies if two persons or cars (or any object of a class that extends Xpto) are equals. Thus, I redefined equals() in both Person and Car classes. Two persons are equal when they have the same name and two cars are equal when they have the same registration. However, when I call foo() in the Test class I always get "false". I understand why: the equals() is not redefined in Xpto abstract class. So... how can I compare two persons or cars (or any object of a class that extends Xpto) in that foo() method? Fundamentally the way I imagine it working is that you can throw 10 computers into a facility one day. You've got one client that requires the equivalent of two computers worth, and 100 others that eat up the remaining 8. As demands change you're just reallocating logical resources, maybe the 2 computer client now requires a third physical system. You just add it to the cloud, and don't worry about sharding the database, or migrating data over to a new server. Can it work this way? If yes, why would anyone ever do things like partition their database servers anymore? Just add more computing resources. You scale horizontally with the hardware, but your server appears to scale vertically. There's no need to modify your application's infrastructure to support multiple databases etc.

• Problems running Ruby on Rails apps on shared hosted server

  I have problems installing any Ruby On Rails app on my shared hosted server. Mongrel shows html as plain text for all pages. The problem occurs for any app, even if I create a test empty app and add a scaffolded view without changing anything. It appears that the Mongrel crashes when trying to put cookies to the response header. Why am I losing the fucntionality of the original base class at this level? Is it incorrect to add the element (button1) to the maskcontainer inside of the main.xaml? My end goal is to create a container that is reusable, but inherits all properties/methods that I've specified throughout the chain. Any help is appreciated.

• UILabel applying CGAffineTransformMakeRotation causing mysterious crash

  In -(id)initWithNibName:(NSString *)nibNameOrNil bundle:(NSBundle *)nibBundleOrNil parentController:(GameViewController *)myGameController{ Have a series of transforming labels like so: deg90 = 1.570796326794897; //....transforms background.center = CGPointMake(160,230); background.transform = CGAffineTransformMakeRotation(deg90); BetLabel.text = @"test"; BetLabel.transform = CGAffineTransformMakeRotation(deg90); That last line is crashing me with: 2010-04-13 21:04:47.858 Game[1204:207] * Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSRangeException', reason: '* -[NSCFArray objectAtIndex:]: index (1) beyond bounds (1)' 2010-04-13 21:04:47.893 Game[1204:207] Stack: ( 864992541, 859229716, (lots of numbers) But if I comment it out, I get the text changing fine. Uh oh, just did a test.. turns out the other transforms were on UIImageViews. Apparently rotating a label in this xib is causing the crash. But in another file the transforms are working fine: newprofileentry.transform = CGAffineTransformMakeRotation(1.570796326794897); playerb0.transform = CGAffineTransformMakeRotation(1.570796326794897); playerb1.transform = CGAffineTransformMakeRotation(1.570796326794897); Tried substituting deg90 with the full float value, still the same crash. Tried cleaning cache, restarting IB and Xcode, cleaning all targets. Program has been running fine until I just added these labels. Can anybody please help me to modify this so that I can create the setValueExpression for deep properties as well as shallow? Thanks.

I suspect there is a cleaner way to do this than my solution? • SAN cache memory upgrade

  We currently have an IBM DS4300 Dual Controller Fibre SAN. It is a good box, but getting pretty old. It came with 256MB of cache per controller. Recently we replaced the batteries in one of the controllers and noticed that the cache is a DDR PC2100 ECC DIMM. Of course, we are thinking about how cheap this RAM is now and is there any good reason we can't upgrade the RAM. IBM used to have a "Turbo" upgrade to this box that doubled the cache and had a bunch of software features for about 10K USD. Since that product has been end-of-lifed, I don't think we can get that upgrade and we don't need the software upgrades (FlashCopy, StorageCopy, etc). Besides the obvious potential warranty issue, what if any issues would we expect to see if attempting to put 2 - 1GB DIMMS in this unit? Any other things I am missing here? • Problem inserting android.text.format.Time.toMillis value into SQLite DB on droid

  I'm writing an app for Android OS, and I need to store some time values in the SQLite DB. I have been using android.text.format.Time to store the time values in the app, and then inserting the values as millis into the DB as REAL values. On the SDK emulator, everything works perfectly. On the sole phone I've had the opportunity to test my app (so far), my duration code doesn't work as expected. Some relevant code: private static final String DATABASE_CREATE = "create table " + DATABASE_TABLE + " (" + KEY_ROWID + " integer primary key autoincrement, " + KEY_START + " REAL, " + KEY_STOP + " REAL, " + KEY_DUR + " REAL );"; ... private SQLiteDatabase mDb; ContentValues timerValues = new ContentValues(); ... timerValues.put(KEY_START, stime.toMillis(false)); timerValues.put(KEY_STOP, etime.toMillis(false)); timerValues.put(KEY_DURATION, stime.toMillis(false)-etime.toMillis(false)); int result = mDb.insert(DATABASE_TABLE, null, timerValues); I pull this data from two separate functions with slightly different bits of code, both using Time.set(long millis), both giving incorrect results: The start and stop values come back correct, but the duration comes out 17 hours too large. Am I missing something about calculating durations or does this just seem like there's something "special" about this particular droid? I'll have another droid to test on Monday, but any ideas are appreciated.

• Access Denied while using System.Diagnostics.Process

  I am trying to use the unmanaged ImageMagick library in my ASP.NET application from the command line using System.Diagnostics.Process. Basically, users will upload an .eps file to the site, and then I will run the command line command to convert it into .jpg. This is the code I'm using to try and run the command: Dim proc As New System.Diagnostics.Process proc.StartInfo.RedirectStandardOutput = True proc.StartInfo.RedirectStandardError = True proc.StartInfo.FileName = "C:\Program Files (x86)\ImageMagick-6.6.1-Q16\convert.exe" proc.StartInfo.UseShellExecute = False proc.StartInfo.Arguments = String.Format("{0} {1}", Server.MapPath("~/logo/test.eps"), _ Server.MapPath("~/certificates/temp/test-1234.jpg")) proc.StartInfo.CreateNoWindow = True proc.Start() I am able to run this code just fine on our development Win 2k3 server, but not on our production Win 2k3 Server. I get the error "System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception: Access is denied". The main between the two servers is that the production is 64-bit and runs Plesk to manage multiple domains. I've tried adding rights asp.net user to the ImageMagick directory. The PS Admin says that in the case of Plesk, it's the same account that I use to access the site in VS using FPE. Does anyone know what I might do in order to allow this process to run on my production server? Thanks, Mike

  I have a sample ASP.NET MVC 3 web application that is following Jonathan McCracken's Test-Drive Asp.NET MVC (great book , by the way) and I have stumbled upon a problem. Note that I'm using MVCContrib, Rhino and NUnit. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt. The controller action code is the following: [HttpGet] public ActionResult Index() { ViewData.Model = Todo.ThingsToBeDone; ViewBag.UserName = HttpContext.User.Identity.Name; return View(); } From what I have figured out, the app seems to crash because of the two assignements in the controller action. However, I cannot see how there are wrong!? Can anyone help me pinpoint the solution to this problem. Thank you.

• Java's Scanner class: using left- and right buttons with Bash

  I'm not too familiar with Linux/Bash, so I can't really find the right terms to search for. For example, if I type "test" and then try to go back by pressing the left button, ^[[D appears instead of my cursor going back one place: $ test^[[D I've tried the newer Console class as well, but the end result is the same. On Windows' cmd.exe shell, I don't have this problem. So, the question is: is there a way to change my Java code so that I can use the arrow keys without Bash transforming them in sequences like ^[[D but actually move the cursor instead? I'm hoping that I can solve this on a "programming level". If this is not possible, then I guess I'd better try my luck on Superuser to see if there's something I need to change on my Bash console.
