  • AutoCompleteTextView displays 'android.database.sqlite.SQLiteCursor@'... after making selection

    - by user244190
I am using the following code to set the adapter (SimpleCursorAdapter) for an AutoCompleteTextView mComment = (AutoCompleteTextView) findViewById(R.id.comment); Cursor cComments = myAdapter.getDistinctComments(); scaComments = new SimpleCursorAdapter(this,R.layout.auto_complete_item,cComments,new String[] {DBAdapter.KEY_LOG_COMMENT},new int[]{R.id.text1}); mComment.setAdapter(scaComments); auto_complete_item.xml <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <TextView xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:id="@+id/text1" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content"/> and thi is the xml for the actual control <AutoCompleteTextView android:id="@+id/comment" android:hint="@string/COMMENT" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:textSize="18dp"/> The dropdown appears to work correctly, and shows a list of items. When I make a selection from the list I get a sqlite object ('android.database.sqlite.SQLiteCursor@'... ) in the textview. Anyone know what would cause this, or how to resolve this? thanks Ok I am able to hook into the OnItemClick event, but the TextView.setText() portion of the AutoCompleteTextView widget is updated after this point. The OnItemSelected() event never gets fired, and the onNothingSelected() event gets fired when the dropdown items are first displayed. mComment.setOnItemClickListener( new OnItemClickListener() { @Override public void onItemClick(AdapterView<?> arg0, View arg1, int arg2, long arg3) { // TODO Auto-generated method stub SimpleCursorAdapter sca = (SimpleCursorAdapter) arg0.getAdapter(); String str = getSpinnerSelectedValue(sca,arg2,"comment"); TextView txt = (TextView) arg1; txt.setText(str); Toast.makeText(ctx, "onItemClick", Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show(); } }); mComment.setOnItemSelectedListener(new OnItemSelectedListener() { @Override public void onItemSelected(AdapterView<?> arg0, View arg1, int arg2, long arg3) { Toast.makeText(ctx, "onItemSelected", Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show(); } @Override public void onNothingSelected(AdapterView<?> arg0) { // TODO Auto-generated method stub Toast.makeText(ctx, "onNothingSelected", Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show(); } }); Anyone alse have any ideas on how to override the updating of the TextView? thanks patrick

  • Java & android: Help linking an item in a listView to its correct view, but not the way i know of.

    - by Capsud
Hi, i'm developing an android app, and what i have is a String array of restaurants in one class... static final String[] AtoZ = new String[] { "Ananda", "Brambles Cafe", "Brannigans", "Buona Sera", "Cafe Mao", "Cafe Mimo", "Dante", "Eddie Rockets", "Frango's World Cuisine", "Nando's", "Overends Restaurant @ Airfield House", "Pizza Hut", "Roly Saul", "Siam Thai","Smokey Joes","Sohag Tandoori", "TGI Friday","The Rockfield Lounge", "Winters Bar", "Al Boschetto","Baan Thai", "Bella Cuba", "Bellamys","Bianconis","Canal Bank Cafe", "Canalettos Restaurant","Chandni Restaurant", "Chill Out Cafe", "Crowes", "Da Vincenzo", "Druids", "Dylan", "Epic Restaurant", "Jewel in the Crown", "Juniors", "Kanum Thai","Kites", "Koishi","Maia Restaurant", "Mangetu Restaurant", "Millers Pizza Kitchens", "O'Connells Restaurant", "Ocras Restaurant", "Orchid Szechuan Restaurant", "Roly's Bistro", "Ryans Beggars Bush", }; i have created a view for each of these restaurants aswell in my layouts folder. so this array is going to be displayed in a listView in my android app. What i want to know is what is the quickest way of linking the item clicked to its correct view, without having to type out each position in the array and have a serious of if statements which would take a year with this! i dont want to be doing something like this if(position == 1){ setContentView(R.layout.bentleys); as it would take a year doing that for each one... Please help. thanks alot.

  • How to Get user input from a Text Entry Box in Android?

    - by NewGuy
    in an android website, I found an article about how to create a text entry widget that provides auto-complete suggestions. (Following is the link to the site; and it shows all the codes). http://developer.android.com/resources/tutorials/views/hello-autocomplete.html Can anyone please tell me how I can capture the input entered by the user? For example, if the user chooses “Canada”, is there a way I can know the result in the “HelloAutoComplete.java” activity? Any help would be greatly appreciated. public class HelloAutoComplete extends Activity { @Override protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.main); AutoCompleteTextView textView = (AutoCompleteTextView) findViewById(R.id.autocomplete_country); String[] countries = getResources().getStringArray(R.array.countries_array); ArrayAdapter<String> adapter = new ArrayAdapter<String>(this, R.layout.list_item, countries); textView.setAdapter(adapter); textView.setOnItemSelectedListener(new AdapterView.OnItemSelectedListener() { public void onItemSelected(AdapterView<?> adapterView, View view, int i, long l) { if (adapterView.getItemAtPosition(i).toString().equals("Canada")) { Toast.makeText(getApplicationContext(), "Result Canada", Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show(); } //Does not get an out put when I select Canada. } public void onNothingSelected(AdapterView<?> adapterView) { } }); } }

  • WPF ListView as a DataGrid – Part 2

    - by psheriff
In my last blog post I showed you how to create GridViewColumn objects on the fly from the meta-data in a DataTable. By doing this you can create columns for a ListView at runtime instead of having to pre-define each ListView for each different DataTable. Well, many of us use collections of our classes and it would be nice to be able to do the same thing for our collection classes as well. This blog post will show you one approach for using collection classes as the source of the data for your ListView.  Figure 1: A List of Data using a ListView Load Property NamesYou could use reflection to gather the property names in your class, however there are two things wrong with this approach. First, reflection is too slow, and second you may not want to display all your properties from your class in the ListView. Instead of reflection you could just create your own custom collection class of PropertyHeader objects. Each PropertyHeader object will contain a property name and a header text value at a minimum. You could add a width property if you wanted as well. All you need to do is to create a collection of property header objects where each object represents one column in your ListView. Below is a simple example: PropertyHeaders coll = new PropertyHeaders(); coll.Add(new PropertyHeader("ProductId", "Product ID"));coll.Add(new PropertyHeader("ProductName", "Product Name"));coll.Add(new PropertyHeader("Price", "Price")); Once you have this collection created, you could pass this collection to a method that would create the GridViewColumn objects based on the information in this collection. Below is the full code for the PropertyHeader class. Besides the PropertyName and Header properties, there is a constructor that will allow you to set both properties when the object is created. C#public class PropertyHeader{  public PropertyHeader()  {  }   public PropertyHeader(string propertyName, string headerText)  {    PropertyName = propertyName;    HeaderText = headerText;  }   public string PropertyName { get; set; }  public string HeaderText { get; set; }} VB.NETPublic Class PropertyHeader  Public Sub New()  End Sub   Public Sub New(ByVal propName As String, ByVal header As String)    PropertyName = propName    HeaderText = header  End Sub   Private mPropertyName As String  Private mHeaderText As String   Public Property PropertyName() As String    Get      Return mPropertyName    End Get    Set(ByVal value As String)      mPropertyName = value    End Set  End Property   Public Property HeaderText() As String    Get      Return mHeaderText    End Get    Set(ByVal value As String)      mHeaderText = value    End Set  End PropertyEnd Class You can use a Generic List class to create a collection of PropertyHeader objects as shown in the following code. C#public class PropertyHeaders : List<PropertyHeader>{} VB.NETPublic Class PropertyHeaders  Inherits List(Of PropertyHeader)End Class Create Property Header Objects You need to create a method somewhere that will create and return a collection of PropertyHeader objects that will represent the columns you wish to add to your ListView prior to binding your collection class to that ListView. Below is a sample method called GetProperties that builds a list of PropertyHeader objects with properties and headers for a Product object. C#public PropertyHeaders GetProperties(){  PropertyHeaders coll = new PropertyHeaders();   coll.Add(new PropertyHeader("ProductId", "Product ID"));  coll.Add(new PropertyHeader("ProductName", "Product Name"));  coll.Add(new PropertyHeader("Price", "Price"));   return coll;} VB.NETPublic Function GetProperties() As PropertyHeaders  Dim coll As New PropertyHeaders()   coll.Add(New PropertyHeader("ProductId", "Product ID"))  coll.Add(New PropertyHeader("ProductName", "Product Name"))  coll.Add(New PropertyHeader("Price", "Price"))   Return collEnd Function WPFListViewCommon Class Now that you have a collection of PropertyHeader objects you need a method that will create a GridView and a collection of GridViewColumn objects based on this PropertyHeader collection. Below is a static/Shared method that you might put into a class called WPFListViewCommon. C#public static GridView CreateGridViewColumns(  PropertyHeaders properties){  GridView gv;  GridViewColumn gvc;   // Create the GridView  gv = new GridView();  gv.AllowsColumnReorder = true;   // Create the GridView Columns  foreach (PropertyHeader item in properties)  {    gvc = new GridViewColumn();    gvc.DisplayMemberBinding = new Binding(item.PropertyName);    gvc.Header = item.HeaderText;    gvc.Width = Double.NaN;    gv.Columns.Add(gvc);  }   return gv;} VB.NETPublic Shared Function CreateGridViewColumns( _    ByVal properties As PropertyHeaders) As GridView  Dim gv As GridView  Dim gvc As GridViewColumn   ' Create the GridView  gv = New GridView()  gv.AllowsColumnReorder = True   ' Create the GridView Columns  For Each item As PropertyHeader In properties    gvc = New GridViewColumn()    gvc.DisplayMemberBinding = New Binding(item.PropertyName)    gvc.Header = item.HeaderText    gvc.Width = [Double].NaN    gv.Columns.Add(gvc)  Next   Return gvEnd Function Build the Product Screen To build the window shown in Figure 1, you might write code like the following: C#private void CollectionSample(){  Product prod = new Product();   // Setup the GridView Columns  lstData.View = WPFListViewCommon.CreateGridViewColumns(       prod.GetProperties());  lstData.DataContext = prod.GetProducts();} VB.NETPrivate Sub CollectionSample()  Dim prod As New Product()   ' Setup the GridView Columns  lstData.View = WPFListViewCommon.CreateGridViewColumns( _       prod.GetProperties())  lstData.DataContext = prod.GetProducts()End Sub The Product class contains a method called GetProperties that returns a PropertyHeaders collection. You pass this collection to the WPFListViewCommon’s CreateGridViewColumns method and it will create a GridView for the ListView. When you then feed the DataContext property of the ListView the Product collection the appropriate columns have already been created and data bound. Summary In this blog you learned how to create a ListView that acts like a DataGrid using a collection class. While it does take a little code to do this, it is an alternative to creating each GridViewColumn in XAML. This gives you a lot of flexibility. You could even read in the property names and header text from an XML file for a truly configurable ListView. • Problem in Setting image in imageview inside ListView in Android?

    - by sunil
Hi, I have a listview which includes 2 textviews and 1 imageview. Now, the image in imageview will be set on certain conditions otherwise it should be left blank with no image. The problem is the images are not coming in proper rows. Say, for eg the image should be displayed at row 3 but its displayed at row 4. And, in some cases each row will have the same image. Has someone faced this kind of an issue? I am really clueless about the reason behind this. Can anyone point out the problem? Regards Sunil

  • How to generate a ListView with headers above some sections?

    - by Janusz
I want to generate a Listview that has some dividers between some of the entries, like it can be seen in some of the property sections. See the example below. I try to generate a List that consists of some textviews followed by one of the fancy dividers explaining the next part of the list and then again some text views. How can this be done? I thought about creating different views to add to the list? Is this the way to go?

  • Android threading and database locking

I am going to look at this, but is this the recommended method of handling such a problem? It seems rather heavyweight considering we're talking about in front or behind Thanks in advance.

  • Why is android:transcriptMode="normal" not working properly?

    - by BCS
I've been doing a lot of fiddling with an issue I've been having. What happens is each time an item gets added to my listview (adapter) I expect it to auto-scroll if I'm at the last item (which it will do to an extent); HOWEVER, if 3 or more items get added at once, it will not auto-scroll. Here is the XML of that listview: <ListView android:id="@android:id/list" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="0dip" android:layout_weight="1" android:transcriptMode="normal"/> I tried a workaround using a snippet I found here. My code is as follows: public void addChat(final String text, final String username) { this.runOnUiThread(new Runnable() { public void run() { globals.chatAdapter.add(DateFormat.format("hh:mmaa", Calendar.getInstance()).toString(), username, text); globals.chatAdapter.notifyDataSetChanged(); int lastP = getListView().getLastVisiblePosition(); int count = globals.chatAdapter.getCount() - 1; if (lastP == globals.chatAdapter.oldP || lastP == -1) { getListView().setSelection(count); } globals.chatAdapter.oldP = count; } }); } The problem with this is when a bunch of items come in at once, getListView().getLastVisiblePosition() will not update right away causing a setSelection() to never get called, and thus no auto-scroll. Any suggestions?

  • Retrieving and displaying a contact name from a contact id while using a SimpleCursorAdapter

    - by Henrique
I am storing information on the phone's contacts using a sqlite database. The fields I am storing are: _id, contact_id, body where _id is the row's id, contact_id is the phone contact's id and body is just a simple text which is the actual information I am storing. I'm using a SimpleCursorAdapter to map the data to the view, like so: Cursor cursor = database.fetchInformation(); // fetch info from DB String[] from = new String[] { CONTACT_ID, BODY }; int[] to = new int[] { R.id.contact, R.id.body }; SimpleCursorAdapter adapter = new SimpleCursorAdapter(this, R.layout.row, cursor, from, to); getListView().setAdapter(adapter); What I would actually want is to get the contact name that is associated with this CONTACT_ID, and have that be shown in the view. I can't seem to find a simple solution. I've tried implementing my own SimpleCursorAdapter and rewriting setViewText(TextView, String) but it didn't work. Also, it just seems overly complicated for such a simple task. Any help? Thanks.
