• Installing SDM on a Cisco 2821 ISR

  I trying to change the configuration of our router, it's a Cisco 2821 Integrated Services Router. I don't know much about Cisco products. While looking at the PDF manual for the router I notices it talked about SDM Security Device Manager. But when I point my web browser at the IP address of the router, it give me a very simple web interface. It's sort of like a string builder for CLI commands. I'm guessing SDM was not installed on it. So my question how would I go about do that? I found this link (below), but I'm a bit new to networking. • Hosted Kerio Mailserver vs. Hosted Exchange

  Hi all, I'm in the beginning stages of migrating from an internal exchange server (2003) to external hosted services. We don't have a huge user base, less than 100, but we need to support BlackBerries, iPhones, Outlook RPC/HTTP, etc. I really like exchange hosted providers (I've used intermedia in the past) but pricing is a bit high. Does anyone have any experience with Kerio? It looks great, but I'd like to hear some unbiased opinions. Or biased if you are really happy working for a particular hosting company ;-)

• Is it me or is developing web based data entry GUIs a big pain?

  Maybe it's me or maybe it isn't. I don't have a huge amount of experience of developing web based data entry software but do have some. I used to do it quite a bit years ago. Used to use Oracle Forms, Visual Studio, various 4th generation languages, and performing the user interface layout used to be a snap. Now doing the user interface for developing web applications seems to be a huge pain in the rear. Just trying to get text entry fields and widgets to go where they are supposed to go on the screen is a total pain. You have to know Javascript, CSS, JQuery, HTML, etc. There must be an easier way to develop data entry forms that produce the needed underlying code for a web page. Maybe I'm just not looking in the right place. There must be some WYSIWYG GUI development tools for the web for developing data entry forms out there. Anybody know of any?

• CentOS listen to everything on the wire

  I know there's a native command on linux that will output (to stdout) every "event" related to a certain network interface (be it eth0 etc'). Like there's tail -f <file> to listen on file changes.. I just can't find it. I want to see all events, incoming packets, even dropped ones. At lowest level possible. In every protocol (TCP, UDP etc'). I think WireShark is a bit too big for this as I need something very simple just to see the events, it's for testing. What's the command?

• Are animated GIFs supported in Google Chrome?

  I have recently been testing a website and found animated gif images that seem to show fine in IE and Firefox but in Google Chrome they only show briefly and then dissapear! This happens if I view the image on the page or view the file directly. Are there any reported problems in displaying GIFs in Chrome, or is it just being fussy? There seemed to have been some problems in older versions of Chrome, but it's hard to believe something as simple as this wouldn't have been fixed by now. The version of Google Chrome I am using is: 4.1.249.1021 Not sure if this is relevant, but some info about the image: Width: 216 pixels Height: 36 pixels Horizontal resolution: 96dpi Vertical resolution: 96dpi Bit Depth: 32 Frame Count: 3 EDIT: Seems to be a problem relating to the latest beta version of Chrome, as it works fine in 4.0.249

• Cluster Nodes as RAID Drives

  I'm unable to sleep tonight so I thought I would push this post out VERY early. When you don't sleep your mind takes interesting turns, which can be a good thing. I was watching a briefing today by a couple of friends as they were talking about various ways to arrange a Windows Server Cluster for SQL Server. I often see an "active" node of a cluster with a "passive" node backing it up. That means one node is working and accepting transactions, and the other is not doing any work but simply "standing by" waiting for the first to fail over. The configuration in the demonstration I saw was a bit different. In this example, there were three nodes that were actively working, and a fourth standing by for all three. I've put configurations like this one into place before, but as I was looking at their architecture diagram, it looked familar - it looked like a RAID drive setup! And that's not a bad way to think about your cluster arrangements. The same concerns you might think about for a particular RAID configuration provides a good way to think about protecting your systems in general. So even if you're not staying awake all night thinking about SQL Server clusters, take this post as an opportunity for "lateral thinking" - a way of combining in your mind the concepts from one piece of knowledge to another. • Windows 2008 R2 server cannot access shares on other servers

  I have a problem on my new 2008 R2 64-bit server. Essentially the server sometimes refuses to access shares on other server. in the format \\servernam\sharename sometime it works and then for a few hours it doesn't and then at randon it comes back online. This is a local AD network and have even put in a new gigabit switch between all server. All the old 2003 servers work fine so I know DNS and WINS is all ok. I get error 1006 in eventlog saying that my R2 server can't contact the domain controller when it clearly can. Just to add to the config, it is running on a Dell PowerEdge R410, Vmware Esxi 4.0 and R2 is configured as a terminal server. I can always view shares with FQDN This morning net view \\ did not work but net view \\ did. Very random and very frustrating. any ideas? thanks

  I have to download the html code of a web site during the game. I am taking the poster url of a movie from the imdb web site by scrapping the html ( also other informations ). I have to do the download process many times during the game for different movies. I can download and scrap the html but downloading the html takes too much time and it causes the game to slow down(freeze while downloading). How can I solve this problem? My one approach is to download and scrap all the information and store them in a database before the game and during the game access this information from the database. I think this will work properly but that is not what I exactly want. It would be better if it is dynamic. I also thought of using multi-threading but I am a bit confused about how to implement threading in xna. I read some articles about it but it is not so clear. I mean when should I start the thread and what about the update function etc. I need your help guys

And I need to run php and mysql, thus I installed httpd (Q2. is httpd == apache??), but on my default page, it says: please upload files to /var/www/html folder. Q3.This is the first time I set aws ec2 server myself, my previous experience is hosting with hosting company. Normally in hosting company, my web directory is called "www" or "public_html" or "htdocs".Why is my folder name is "/var/www/html"? Am I installed wrong apache?

(Windows Server 2008 Enterprise 64 bit SP2). Any idea please in resolving this problem would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

• Ubuntu: Take actions when system temperature gets too high

  One of the CPU fans on my Compaq Presario laptop running Ubuntu 9.10 seems to have bit the dust. The fan is deep within the case and I intend to replace the laptop in the next 6 months so it's not worth replacing it. I have the laptop on a cooling pad and most of the time the system is fine, CPU temps around 90°-110°F. Occasionally, however, I'm seeing random lockups which I believe is due to the system overheating. How can I configure the system to: Lower the CPU speed when the temperature reaches a certain level? (I.E. 110°F) Shutdown the system when the tempature reaches a critical level? (And what would that be? 130°?)

• Searching Your PL/SQL Source with Oracle SQL Developer

  Version 3.2.1 included a few tweaks along with several hundred bug fixes. One of those tweaks was the addition of ‘ALL_SOURCE’ as a selection for the Type drop down in the Find Database Object panel. Scroll ALL the way down to the bottom Searching the database for your code or objects can be expensive. The ALL_SOURCE view comes in pretty handy when I want to demo how to cancel long running queries or the Task Progress panel – did you know you can manage all of your long running queries here? Yeah, don’t run this I pretty much hosed our demo pod at Open World b/c I ran that same query but added an ORDER BY b.TEXT DESC to the query and blew up the TEMP space and filled the primary partition on the image. Fun stuff. Anyways, where was I going with this? Oh yeah, searching ALL_SOURCE can be expensive. So we took it out of the product for awhile. And now it’s back in. If you select the ‘ALL’ field, it doesn’t actually search EVERYTHING, because that would probably be less than helpful. So if you want to search your PL/SQL objects for a scrap or bit of code, use the ‘ALL_SOURCE’ option in v3.2.1 Double-Click on the search results to go to the code you’re looking for. Be careful what you search for. Just like any query, it could take awhile.

• SO-overflow induced passivity - how to cope?

  After not really working on my pet project for a while, I discovered Stackoverflow and upon perusing it more intensely I was quite amazed. I'm a bit of a perfectionist, so when I found eye-openers here highlighting many of the mistakes I made, I first wanted to fix everything. However, it's a pet project for a reason: I'm self-taught and I'm studying psychology, so programming skills can never become priority one (though it often helps, even in this field). Issues that stuck out were numerous security issues (e.g. CSRF-prevention and bcrypt eluded me) not object-oriented (at least the PHP part, the JS-part mostly is) no PHP framework used, so many of my DIY takes on commonly-tackled components (auth, ...) are either bad or inefficient really poor MySQL usage (no prepared statements, mysql extension, heard about setting proper indices two days ago) using mootools even though JQuery seems to be fashionable, so there's more probably always going to be better integration with services I'd like to use (like google visualization) So, my SO-induced frenzy turned into passivity. I can't do it all (soon) in the rather small amount of spare time I can spend on working on my project. I can leave some of the issues be in good conscience (speed stuff: an unfinished & unpublished project will never become popular, right?). No clear conscience without good security though and if I don't use a framework for auth and other complex stuff I'll regret having to do it myself. One obvious answer would probably be going open-source, but I think the project would need to become more impressive before others would commit to it. I can't afford to employ someone either. I do think the project deserves being worked on, though. How should I tackle it anyway? What's the best practice for little-practice people?

Also, all these queries are hitting query cache, so sole MySQL performance if great. But when I am using ab -c 10 -t 10 to bench this scipt, I am getting: 100 itterations: ~100req/sec (~10'000 MySQL queries per second) 5 itteration: ~200req/sec 1 itteration: ~380req/sec 0 itteration: ~580req/sec I've tried to disable persistent connections in PHP - it made it slower a bit. So, how can I make it work faster, provided that MySQL is not limiting performance here?

• HP dv9000 Vista laptop won't boot from CD/DVD drive

  My HP dv9000 Vista laptop recently got the BSOD with error 0x0000c1f5. The only way to fix this error is to be able to boot from CD/DVD and use some repair software I have. The problem is that the laptop REFUSES to boot from any CD/DVD I try. I've changed the boot order so the CD/DVD is first, and I can hear the drive spin up a bit upon power-up, but after a second, it spins down and then the laptop tries to boot from hard drive. Any ideas? (I've tried lots of CDs so it's not the media itself) Thanks much!

  I have an external HDD which I would like to "safely remove". Unfortunately, my system (Windows 7 x64) complains that "the device is currently in use". Using Process Explorer I discovered which process is holding a handle on the device: Obviously, System is not a process that I can just kill and be done with it. I've done a bit of research and this seems to be a common problem, but no solution has been found so far (except for rebooting the machine, which I'd like to avoid if possible). Is there any solution to this problem that I've missed?

• Internet wireless connected with limited access, windows vista

  I had some malware in my computer so I did a bit of manual work to remove it including resetting TCP/IP. Now the malware is gone. I can see my home wireless network and I can get connected to it but when connected I get the Internet wireless connected with limited access message. When I go to the IE I cannot browse. When I tried to ping 192.168.1.1 I got an Error Code 1231 Unconnected Network Problem. I have deactivated my Windows firewall as I thought it could be hyperactive security. Still no luck. I have Norton but it is not active, I have also Avast and AVG installed but they are not active. Any ideas?

  Here is the problem, I use a Cisco/Linksys AE1200 wireless network adapter to connect my desktop to a public wifi internet connection. I use ndiswrapper to use the windows driver and it had been working fine for me untill I ran the update manager overnight a few days ago.   A few (6?) weeks ago, I started a project that I've always wanted to do. I am doing a re-write of the old VB6 game DopeWars with a partner in crime. I loved that game and spent many, many hours wasting time playing it years ago. I liked it so much, I even registered it (it was $5...even then, that wasn't much to spend). The VB6 version itself was a port of the old DOS game DrugWars (never go to play that). I needed a game project to work on as it's been far too long since I've done any game work. There is surprising amount of logic built into the game (there is the way I'm writing it, anyway) with what is really a minimal interface. My design goal was to have an object model that could be easily adapted to any interface and so far, I've managed to do that. I am even considering a web-based version that could run via Facebook (no clue how to do that...yet). I've enlisted the help of one of my DBA buddies to work on the interface while I am working on the object model. So far, this arrangement has gone well. The logical separation of concerns allows for us to collaborate easily. Once we get to the Facebook step, it will be great to have a DBA "on staff" to help that part off of the ground. The object model is probably about 60% complete with quite a bit of testing to go. More on this as we go....

• 1080p playback on external monitor

  My system (netbook) specs: 1.6 GHz dual core atom N2600 2 GB DDR3 RAM Integrated GMA3600 GPU Win 7 Professional 32 Bit Daum Pot Player V-1.5 The issue: I downloaded a 1.33 GB sized 1920 x 1080 HD documentary (file extension: mp4) and it plays without a hitch using pot player. However, when I connected an external display (an LED Full HD 24" monitor) using D-Sub, the video plays fine but the player controls become very unresponsive. For instance, it takes about 40 seconds to exit full screen while playing. I tried: Installed/updated all the latest monitor drivers Updated the VGA drivers for GMA3600 No other programs ran while the video played, with most unwanted services and background processes disabled/killed. CPU usage goes only up to 49% when the video plays Question: What may I do in order to improve the player response/video playback experience? Do I need to play with (or change) Pot Player's default video decoders, etc?

• OpenVPN Push DNS Not Working Correctly On Windows

  I currently have OpenVPN server setup on an Ubuntu machine, as well as DNSMasq. I am wanting to push DNS to the client (road warrior setup.) I had the push "dhcp-option DNS x.x.x.x" where x.x.x.x was an open OpenDNS server, for testing, and everything was working when I connected from my Windows client But now that I have DNSMasq setup, and I changed the "dhcp-option DNS x.x.x.x" to the DNSMasq server, but when they client connects it still receives the old, OpenDNS DNS server IP. I'm at a bit of a loss here, I have tried flushing DNS on the client, rebooting the server, and I even grep'd the entire server to see if the OpenDNS IP was in some other config I was missing...it wasn't. One other note, when connect to the VPN and explicitly run nslookup against against the DNSMasq IP, the addresses resolve correctly, so it isn't a DNSMasq issue.

• Windows 7 - cancel mirror synchronisation

  I've got basic disk OS managed disk mirroring setup in Windows 7 for a couple of volumes. After a power failure the mirrors are currently resynching. These are only small volumes of data but the sync has not completed after more than 24 hours. Is there any way to stop this as it's driving me nuts? I need to get the machine back to a usable state to get some work done but it's a bit of a dog whilst this synch is going on. I've tried removing the mirrors but it won't let me do that whilst the re-sync is in progress.
