  The title is more complicated than it has to be, here's the problem query. I don't see much out there about escaping XPath strings but everything I've found seems to be variations on using concat (which won't help because neither ' nor " are available) or html entities. Not using quotes for the attributes doesn't throw an error but fails because it's not the actual XPath string I need. I don't see anything in the YQL docs about how to handle escaping. I'm aware of how edge-casey this is but was hoping they'd have some sort of escaping guide.

However, when the height of the document is the same or less than the window the method above will not work because scrollTop() will always be equal to 0. This becomes a problem if the DOM is updated and the height of the document grows beyond the height of the window after the code runs. Also, I generally don't wait until document.ready to set up my javascript handlers (this generally works). I could append a tall div to the body temporarily to force the method above to work BUT that would required the document to be ready in IE (you can't add a node to the body element before the tag is closed). For more reading on the document.ready "anti-pattern" topic read this. So, I'd love to find a solution that finds the scrollable element even when the document is short. Any ideas?

  Hello all, I've just gotten started using BDD with RSpec/Cucumber/Webrat and Rails and I've run into some frustration trying to get my view spec to pass. First of all, I am running Ruby 1.9.1p129 with Rails 2.3.2, RSpec and RSpec-Rails 1.2.6, Cucumber 0.3.11, and Webrat 0.4.4.   Hi, I need some help with vocabulary, I don't use Oracle that often but I am familiar with MySQL and SQL Server. I have an application I need to upgrade and migrate, and part of the procedure to do that involves exporting to an XML file, allowing the installer to create new database tables, then import to the new database tables from the XML file. In Oracle, my database connection specifies a username, password, and an SID. Let's call the SID, "COMPANY-APPS". This SID contains tables belonging to several applications, each of which connects with a different user ( "WIKIUSER", "BUGUSER", "TIMETRACKERUSER" ). My question is: Can I re-use the same user to create the new tables ( with the same names ). In MySQL or SQL Server, I would create a new database and grant my user privileges to create tables in it. OR, do I need to create a new database user for my upgraded tables?

I was told to index the columns; I did. and its still slow (slow as in, i never see the results, both mysql and sqlite freeze up on query). Help would be greatly appreciated. I've been working on a complex "user feed" type of functionality for a while now, and after experimenting with various union plugins, hacking named scopes, and brute force, have arrived at a solution I'm happy with. S.O. has been hugely helpful for me, so I thought I'd post it here in hopes that it might help others and also to get feedback -- it's very possible that I worked on this so long that I walked down an unnecessarily complicated road. For the sake of my example, I'll use users, groups, and articles. A user can follow other users to get a feed of their articles. They can also join groups and get a feed of articles that have been added to those groups. What I needed was a combined, pageable feed of distinct articles from a user's contacts and groups. Let's begin. user.rb has_many :articles has_many :contacts has_many :contacted_users, :through => :contacts has_many :memberships has_many :groups, :through => :memberships contact.rb belongs_to :user belongs_to :contacted_user, :class_name => "User", :foreign_key => "contacted_user_id" article.rb belongs_to :user has_many :submissions has_many :groups, :through => :submissions group.rb has_many :memberships has_many :users, :through => :memberships has_many :submissions has_many :articles, :through => :submissions Those are the basic models that define my relationships. Now, I add two named scopes to the Article model so that I can get separate feeds of both contact articles and group articles should I desire. article.rb # Get all articles by user's contacts named_scope :by_contacts, lambda {|user| {:joins => "inner join contacts on articles.user_id = contacts.contacted_user_id", :conditions => ["articles.published = 1 and contacts.user_id = ?", user.id]} } # Get all articles in user's groups. This does an additional query to get the user's group IDs, then uses those in an IN clause named_scope :by_groups, lambda {|user| {:select => "DISTINCT articles.*", :joins => :submissions, :conditions => {:submissions => {:group_id => user.group_ids}}} } Now I have to create a method that will provide a UNION of these two feeds into one. Since I'm using Rails 2.3.5, I have to use the construct_finder_sql method to render a scope into its base sql. In Rails 3.0, I could use the to_sql method. user.rb def feed "(#{Article.by_groups(self).send(:construct_finder_sql,{})}) UNION (#{Article.by_contacts(self).send(:construct_finder_sql,{})})" end And finally, I can now call this method and paginate it from my controller using will_paginate's paginate_by_sql method. HomeController.rb @articles = Article.paginate_by_sql(current_user.feed, :page => 1) And we're done! It may seem simple now, but it was a lot of work getting there. Feedback is always appreciated. Application will work with large number of users (LARGE :)) I designed 80% of database but I have one Users table which is connected to everything else: Users {UserId, FirstName, LastName, Username, Password, PasswordQuestion, PasswordAnswer, Gender, RoleId, LastLoginDate etc etc} I saw asp.net membership database structure where Users and Membership are two tables. My questions are: Should I use one users table with all users data in it or more tables? If answer is 'more tables', what tables to use? Any advice on how to structure relation between those tables? This is sample relation that I have, and trying to improve. I don't understand why user and userChild are separated tables?

• jquery ajax html response change 1.3.2 vs 1.4.2 (aka where is my script tag?)

  I've been using jquery 1.3.2 to pull snippets of html (including script) from a server. A typical response might be: <div id="content"<div id="inner"... <script type=... alert("hello world");</script <pHello World</p </div</div I've been using the query .get function: $.get($(this).attr("href"), function(response) { $("#inner").replaceWith($("#inner", response)); }); And everything is fine and works as expected: the returned html snippets get loaded into the DOM and the scripts run. When I use 1.4.2 however, I notice that the script tags have been removed and no longer run. Stepping into the newer jquery codebase yields the lines of code (line 4498) : ret.splice.apply( ret, [i + 1, 0].concat(jQuery.makeArray(ret[i].getElementsByTagName("script"))) ); which seems to be the culprit 'removing' the script from its happy resting place as part of the selector process. But it doesn't help me in injecting exactly what i want into the DOM. Any idea why jquery is doing this? More importantly, how can I go about fixing this so that my scripts run?

I added the files for the main Bootstrap but use a gem for simple_form to work with it just so you know. When loading, through the browser, the url which renders b.html.twig, the content in block A (defined by the 3th template) is not positioned block _A is defined. • SubSonic error: db.tables with a ~ in the name result in a "Character is not valid" error

  I renamed a database table and added a ~ character to the table name (my way of notifying it is a backup of something). After generating the SubSonic files, my Visual Studio gives a "Character not valid" error on file "AllStructs.vb" When looking into this file the following line of code was generated; Public Shared ReadOnly DbTable1~old As String = "dbtable1~old". I assume this character has to be filtered out of the db.table names when generating the SubSonic names?

  I have a MySQL InnoDB table with 238 columns. 56 of them are TEXT type, 27 are VARCHAR(255). I am getting MySQL error 139 when users insert data sometimes. After research I found that I'm probably running into InnoDB row size/column size/column count limitations. (I'm putting it that way because the specific limits among those three things are interdependent.) Docs on InnoDB give an idea of the limits. If I switch this table to MyISAM is it likely to solve the problem? I understand the maximum row size of 65,535 bytes. I think I'm hitting InnoDB's additional 8000 byte limit somehow. Switching to PostgreSQL is also a remote option, but would take much longer.

• How can I modify a scalar reference passed to a subroutine reference

  I have a function to convert documents into different formats, which then calls another function based on the type document. It's pretty straight forward for everything aside from HTML documents which require a bit of cleaning up, and that cleaning up is different based on where it's come from. So I had the idea that I could pass a reference to a subroutine to the convert function so the caller has the opportunity to modify the HTML, kinda like so (I'm not at work so this isn't copy-and-pasted): package Converter; ... sub convert { my ($self, $filename, $coderef) = @_; if ($filename =~ /html?$/i) { $self->_convert_html($filename, $coderef); } } sub _convert_html { my ($self, $filename, $coderef) = @_; my $html = $self->slurp($filename); $coderef->(\$html); #this modifies the html $self->save_to_file($filename, $html); } which is then called by: Converter->new->convert("./whatever.html", sub { s/<html>/<xml>/i }); I've tried a couple of different things along these lines but I keep on getting 'Use of uninitialized value in substitution (s///)'.   So I'm writing an application that will do a little screen scrapping. I'm using the HTML Agility Pack to load an entire HTML page into an instance of HtmlDocoument called doc. Now I want to parse that doc, looking for this: <table border="0" cellspacing="3"> <tr><td>First rows stuff</td></tr> <tr> <td> The data I want is in here <br /> and it's seperated by these annoying <br /> 's. No id's, classes, or even a single <p> tag. </p> Just a bunch of <br /> tags. </td> </tr> </table> So I just need to get the data within the 2nd row. How can I do this? Should I use a regex or something else?
