  • Partial Git deployment strategy?

    - by MatW
I need to setup a Kohana dev environment that allows me to make full use of shared module / system classes across separate applications. Each application typically belonging to a different client. I use Git for source control, but am struggling to come up with a clean deployment method that will allow me to pull only those parts of the dev environment specific to a client / app down into that client's production environment (assuming that the client's production environment will have Git installed). Dev enviroment: - kohana - applications - clientapp1 - clientapp2 - modules - public_html - clientapp1 - clientapp2 - system - 3.0.1 - 3.0.5 Client 1's production environment: - / - applications - clientapp1 - modules - public_html - client_app1 - system - 3.0.5 Naturally, I want to have total control over each client "sub repo" as if it were an independent repo (in terms of gitignore, etc). I have seen topics that cover Git's sparse checkout feature, but it seems like it may cause a few problems down the line from a maintenance point of view, and I don't like the idea of the entire repo's metadata existing in client's production environment repo. As you can probably tell, I'm not exactly a Git poweruser, so any suggestions / wisdom are very welcome!

  • How is the filesystem of Wikipedia designed?

    - by Heo
I read about FHS, and I started to consider the file system of wikipedia. On the one hand, I feel it is a security risk to let everyone know it. On the other hand, it is necessary for developers. For example, is there some rule to know where are all sitemaps and their indices located? So: How is the file system of Wikipedia designed?

  • Write vim file as super-user ?

    - by zimbatm
This is a usability problem that happens often to me : I open a read-only system file with vim, even editing it, because I'm not attentive enough, or because the vim on the system is badly configured. Once my changes are done, I'm stuck having to write them in a temporary file or loosing them, because :w! won't work. Is there a vim command (:W!!!) that allows you to write the current buffer as a super-user ? (Vim would ask for your sudo or su password naturally)

  • How to implement cancellable worker thread

    - by Arnold Zokas
Hi, I'm trying to implement a cancellable worker thread using the new threading constructs in System.Threading.Tasks namespace. So far I have have come up with this implementation: public sealed class Scheduler { private CancellationTokenSource _cancellationTokenSource; public System.Threading.Tasks.Task Worker { get; private set; } public void Start() { _cancellationTokenSource = new CancellationTokenSource(); Worker = System.Threading.Tasks.Task.Factory.StartNew( () => RunTasks(_cancellationTokenSource.Token), _cancellationTokenSource.Token ); } private static void RunTasks(CancellationToken cancellationToken) { while (!cancellationToken.IsCancellationRequested) { Thread.Sleep(1000); // simulate work } } public void Stop() { try { _cancellationTokenSource.Cancel(); Worker.Wait(_cancellationTokenSource.Token); } catch (OperationCanceledException) { // OperationCanceledException is expected when a Task is cancelled. } } } When Stop() returns I expect Worker.Status to be TaskStatus.Canceled. My unit tests have shown that under certain conditions Worker.Status remains set to TaskStatus.Running. Is this a correct way to implement a cancellable worker thread?

  • Understanding the concept of inheritance in Java

    - by Nirmal
Hello All.... I am just refreshing the oops features of the java. So, I have a little confusion regarding inheritance concept. For that I have a following sample code : class Super{ int index = 5; public void printVal(){ System.out.println("Super"); } } class Sub extends Super{ int index = 2; public void printVal(){ System.out.println("Sub"); } } public class Runner { public static void main(String args[]){ Super sup = new Sub(); System.out.println(sup.index+","); sup.printVal(); } } Now above code is giving me output as : 5,Sub. Here, we are overriding printVal() method, so that is understandable that it is accessing child class method only. But I could not understand why it's accessing the value of x from Super class... Thanks in advance....

  • Linux - How do i know the block map of the given file and/or the free space map of the partition.

    - by Inso Reiges
Hello, I am on Linux and need to know either of the two things: 1) If i have a regular file on some file system on a partition under Linux is there a way to know the set of the physical blocks that this file occupies on the drive from user space? Or at least the set of the file system's clusters? 2) Is there a way to get the same information about the whole free space of the given file system? In both cases i understand that if there is any possible way to extract this info it will probably be totally unsafe and racy (anything could happen to these set of blocks between the time i see them and act on them somehow). I also really don't want an implementation that will have to know a lot about every filesystem.

  • Hash Digest / Array Comparison in C#

    - by Erik Karulf
Hi All, I'm writing an application that needs to verify HMAC-SHA256 checksums. The code I currently have looks something like this: static bool VerifyIntegrity(string secret, string checksum, string data) { // Verify HMAC-SHA256 Checksum byte[] key = System.Text.Encoding.UTF8.GetBytes(secret); byte[] value = System.Text.Encoding.UTF8.GetBytes(data); byte[] checksum_bytes = System.Text.Encoding.UTF8.GetBytes(checksum); using (var hmac = new HMACSHA256(key)) { byte[] expected_bytes = hmac.ComputeHash(value); return checksum_bytes.SequenceEqual(expected_bytes); } } I know that this is susceptible to timing attacks. Is there a message digest comparison function in the standard library? I realize I could write my own time hardened comparison method, but I have to believe that this is already implemented elsewhere.

  • C# Speech Recognition - Is this what the user said?

    - by RichieACC
I have need to write an application which uses a speech recognition engine -- either the built in vista one, or a third party one -- that can display a word or phrase, and recognise when the user reads it (or an approximation of it). I also need to be able to switch quickly between languages, without changing the language of the operating system. The users will be using the system for very short periods. The application needs to work without the requirement of first training the recognition engine to the users' voices. It would also be fantastic if this could work on Windows XP or lesser versions of Windows Vista. Optionally, the system needs to be able to read information on the screen back to the user, in the user's selected language. I can work around this specification using pre-recorded voice-overs, but the preferred method would be to use a text-to-speech engine. Can anyone recommend something for me?

I've got Win2008 R2 64bit installed on Dell R410 server with 8GB of RAM. Dell Open Manage shows 8GB total and 4GB available for use, In Windows Control Panel, System i see 64bit and 8GB of RAM while in Windows Task Manager at Performance tab there is 4GB of memory available. Dell support has made some checks and told me that if BIOS shows 8Gb of RAM and indeed BIOS does then it's operational system issue. Tried to search online for resolution but none found. • How to write in an file in MSIL code

    - by Thomas
Hi all, I have a aspx webpage which uses an assembly mine (which mades a custom authentification). I would like to modify MSIL code (so just with ILDASM/ILASM tools) of my assembly in order to log something in a file. I have tried to add this at the end of the authentification method of my assembly : IL_0034: ldstr "C:\\path_to_my_website\\log.txt" IL_0039: newobj instance void [mscorlib]System.IO.StreamWriter::.ctor(string) IL_003e: stloc.1 IL_003f: ldloc.1 IL_0040: ldstr "test" IL_0045: callvirt instance void [mscorlib]System.IO.TextWriter::Write(string) IL_004a: nop IL_004b: ldloc.1 IL_004c: callvirt instance void [mscorlib]System.IO.TextWriter::Close() IL_0051: nop ILASM does not find any error, and the CLR does not throw any exception at runtime, but the file is not created or modified ! :( Any idea ?

  • Help with Python structure in *nixes.

    - by user198553
I came from a Windows background whern it comes to development environments. I'm used to run .exe's from everything I need to run and just forget. I usually code in php, javascript, css, html and python. Now, I have to use Linux at my work, in a non changeable Ubuntu 8.04, with permissions to upgrade my system using company's repositories only. I need to install Python 2.4.3 to start coding in an old legacy system. I had Python 2.5. I downloaded Python 2.4.3 tarballs, ran ./configure make and such. Everything worked out, but now the "default" installation is my system is Python2.4 instead of of Python2.5. I want help from you to change it back, and if possible, some material to read about symlinks, multiple Python installations, virtualenvs and such: everything I need to know before installing/upgrading Python modules. I installed for example the ElementTree package and don't even know in which Python installation it was installed. Thanks in advance!

  • How to create curved Text on a Bitmap?

    - by TooFat
I am currently dynamically creating a bitmap and using the graphics object from the string from the bitmap to Draw a string on it like so. System.Drawing.Graphics graph = System.Drawing.Graphics.FromImage(bmp); graph.DrawString(text, font, brush, new System.Drawing.Point(0, 0)); This returns a rectangle shaped bitmap with the string written straight across from left to right. I would like to also be able to draw the string in the shape of a rainbow. How can I do this?

  • Silverlight binaries what are .ni.dlls?

    - by BrettRobi
In browsing around the Silverlight installation directory I see a number of framework DLLs as expected. But I also see a separate DLL with the same name but with .ni inserted between the dll name and extension. For example there is a System.dll and System.ni.dll. There appears to be a sister .ni dll for almost all of the system dlls. Looking at the quickly in Reflector they appear to include the same content, but are much bigger in binary size. Just out of curiosity, can anyone explain what these are?

  • Entity Aspect (in Spring)

    - by niklassaers
Hi guys, I'm having a bit of a problem defining my aspects. I've got a bunch of entities that I'd like to profile the get-methods in, so I've written the following pointcut and method @Pointcut("execution(* tld.myproject.data.entities.*.get*()") public void getEntityProperty() {} @Around("getEntityProperty()") public Object profileGetEntityProperty(ProceedingJoinPoint pjp) throws Throwable { long start = System.currentTimeMillis(); String name = pjp.getSignature().getName(); Object output = pjp.proceed(); long elapsedTime = System.currentTimeMillis() - start; if(elapsedTime > 100) System.err.println("profileGetEntityProperty: Entity method " + name + " execution time: " + elapsedTime + " ms."); return output; } I've got weaving turned on in my configuration, and aspects weaving into the business layer work just fine. Is my pointcut correctly written? Or is there something about entities that make them non-weavable? (my entity is prefixed with @Entity before the class definition) Cheers Nik

  • How to access private static target field in aspect in AspectJ?

    - by LihO
I have a simple class Main with private static int x and an aspect that should output the old value of x before it is reassigned: public class Main { private static int x; public static void main(String[] args) { foo(7); } public static void foo(int y) { x = y; } } and MonitorX.aj: public aspect MonitorX { before() : set(static int Main.x){ System.out.println(Main.x); } } which doesn't work since I can't access private x using Main.x. I've also tried: before(int t) : set(static int Main.x) && target(t){ System.out.println(t); } which doesn't work either (nothing is outputted, if I try to output string, it seems that the aspect isn't invoked at all). However printing out the new value that is being assigned works: before(int newVal) : set(static int Main.x) && args(newVal){ System.out.println(newVal); } What am I missing?

  • XML serialization and MS/Mono portability

    - by Luca
I'm trying to have classes serialized using MS runtime and Mono runtime. While using MS runtime everything goes fine, but using Mono I give me some exception and program startup. The following exception are thrown: There was an error reflecting a type: System.TypeInitializationException (a class) There was an error reflecting a type: System.InvalidOperationException (a class) There was an error reflecting a field: System.ArgumentOutOfRangeException < 0 (an array of classes) The binary was compiled using MS SDK, but I don't think this is the problem. What's going on? .NET shouln't be portable? How to solve these exceptions?

  • Gigabyte GA-Z77X-D3H MB problems

    - by Hans
I installed a new system last week. I've some issues with it. The system consists of a: Gigabyte GA-Z77X-D3H with F9 BIOS (latest) Intel Core i5 3570K proccesor Sapphire Radeon HD7850 2x 8GB Corsair 1600MHz memory OCZ Vertex 2 120G SSD Connected peripherals : 2 Samsung 940BF (1 via DVI on GFX card, 1 via an Displayport to DVI adapter) 1 Dell U2312HM monitor (displayport) Dell USB Hub (monitor) Wired mouse, wireless keyboard (logitech) Logitch G25 wheel Canon MP800 printer Okay, my issues are the following: if I plug in 1 or more monitor at DisplayPort during boot, most of the time it won't boot properly. I get an empty message screen of UEFI: only the header GIGABYTE DUEL BIOS appears. The system reboots itself, turns on for a few seconds (no video) and then reboots again. Now it starts all over again. This repeats until I remove all displayport monitors. Windows boots, and I can use them when I replug them. The graphics card has been running fine for a few weeks on an older system (intel Q6600). Another issue is; if I plug in my G25 steering wheel, the UEFI BIOS is inaccessible. It either gives the same empty UEFI screen, or the BIOS screen is rendering but crashes half way (so pieces of text and graphics are missing, and it has crashed). If I remove the G25, all is fine. To verify the graphics card is OK and the motherboard is causing these issues, I tried an NVIDIA 8800GT graphics card. This hasn't got Displayport, but it also cannot boot the BIOS with the G25 wheel plugged in. The PC also refuses to go into or out of standby. It just hangs when going into standby, and in other occasions (when it does succesfully do so) get out of standby. Power supply is OCZ StealthXStream 600W. Proccesor is 25 - 30C idle, ~55C stressed (Scythe Mugen 2). I am really puzzled what can be done to resolve this. I am not really waiting for an RMA request (otherwise I will return the MB for another type), because it will likely mean I have to wait very long before I get a replacement. Anyone else with a similar experience on this board/chipset or can help me troubleshoot this?

  • Form Inheritance in Visual Studios designer implementations

    - by CooPzZ
I'm in the process of Moving a project from Visual Studio 2003 to 2005 and have just seen the The event Click is read-only and cannot be changed when using inherited forms regardless of the Modifier on the Base Forms Controls will make all the Controls from the Base Readonly in the designer (Though in 2003 it didn't work this way). I found this post metioning that this functionality has been temporarily" disabled http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winformsdesigner/thread/c25cec28-67a5-4e30-bb2d-9f8dbd41eb3a Can anyone confirm whether this feature is used anymore? or how to program around it to be able to use the Base Control Events and still have a designer? This is one way I've found but quite painfull when it used to do the plumbing for you. even just hiding one of the controls you have manually do now. • Any way to recover ext4 filesystems from a deleted LVM logical volume?

    - by Vegar Nilsen
The other day I had a proper brain fart moment while expanding a disk on a Linux guest under Vmware. I stretched the Vmware disk file to the desired size and then I did what I usually do on Linux guests without LVM: I deleted the LVM partition and recreated it, starting in the same spot as the old one, but extended to the new size of the disk. (Which will be followed by fsck and resize2fs.) And then I realized that LVM doesn't behave the same way as ext2/3/4 on raw partitions... After restoring the Linux guest from the most recent backup (taken only five hours earlier, luckily) I'm now curious on how I could have recovered from the following scenario. It's after all virtually guaranteed that I'll be a dumb ass in the future as well. Virtual Linux guest with one disk, partitioned into one /boot (primary) partition (/dev/sda1) of 256MB, and the rest in a logical, extended partition (/dev/sda5). /dev/sda5 is then setup as a physical volume with pvcreate, and one volume group (vgroup00) created on top of it with the usual vgcreate command. vgroup00 is then split into two logical volumes root and swap, which are used for / and swap, logically. / is an ext4 file system. Since I had backups of the broken guest I was able to recreate the volume group with vgcfgrestore from the backup LVM setup found under /etc/lvm/backup, with the same UUID for the physical volume and all that. After running this I had two logical volumes with the same size as earlier, with 4GB free space where I had stretched the disk. However, when I tried to run "fsck /dev/mapper/vgroup00-root" it complained about a broken superblock. I tried to locate backup superblocks by running "mke2fs -n /dev/mapper/vgroup00-root" but none of those worked either. Then I tried to run TestDisk but when I asked it to find superblocks it only gave an error about not being able to open the file system due to a broken file system. So, with the default allocation policy for LVM2 in Ubuntu Server 10.04 64-bit, is it possible that the logical volumes are allocated from the end of the volume group? That would definitely explain why the restored logical volumes didn't contain the expected data. Could I have recovered by recreating /dev/sda5 with exactly the same size and disk position as earlier? Are there any other tools I could have used to find and recover the file system? (And clearly, the question is not whether or not I should have done this in a different way from the start, I know that. This is a question about what to do when shit has already hit the fan.)
