• Why is this XMLHttpRequest sample from Mozilla is not working in Firefox 3?

  I'm trying to get the sample code from Mozilla that consumes a REST web service to work under Firefox 3.0.10. The following code does NOT work in Firefox but does in IE 8! Why is this not working? Does IE 8 have support for XMLHttpRequest? Most examples I've seen use the ActiveX allocation. What should I be doing? XMLHttpRequest seems more standardized. This is strange as I allocate the req object, am running it in Firefox, and checked to make sure it is defined before calling open (which it says it is of type 'object'). I double checked and 'Enable JavaScript' is turned on in Firefox - seems to work fine in all other web pages. My problem was indeed cross-domain. I was viewing my site unpublished (just on the file system) which was hitting a published service. When I published my site under the same domain it worked. Which also brings up an important distinction between IE and Firefox. When IE experiences this scenario, it prompts the user whether or not they accept the cross-domain call. Firefox throws an exception. While I'm fine with an exception, a more descriptive one would have been helpful. Thanks for all those who helped me.

  I'm getting the following error when I access my webservice localhost/MyService/MyService.svc The SSL settings for the service 'SslRequireCert' does not match those of the IIS 'Ssl, SslNegotiateCert'.   Hi, I am new to Java and junit. I have the following peice of code that I want to test. Would appreciate if you could send your ideas about what's the best way to go about testing it. Basically, the following code is about electing a leader form a Cluster. The leader holds a lock on the shared cache and services of the leader get resumed and disposed if it somehow looses the lock on the cache. • L2S DataContext out of synch: row not found or changed

  The Problem I am getting a number of errors that imply that the DataContext, or rather, the way I am using the DataContext is getting out of synch. The error occurs on db.SubmitChanges() where db is my DataContext instance. The error is: Row not found or changed. The problem only occurs intermitently, for example, adding a row then deleting it. If I stop the dev server and restart, the added row is there and I can delete it no problem. Ie, it seems that the problem is related to the DataContext losing track of the rows that have been added. IMPORTANT: Before anyone votes to close this thread, on the basis of it being a duplicate, I have checked the sql server profiler and there is no "Where 0 = 1" in the SQL. I have also recreated the dbml file, so am satisfied that the database schema is in synch with the schema represented by the dbml file. Ie, no cases of mismatched nullable/not nullable columns, etc. My Diagnosis (for what it is worth): It seems to be a problem related to how I am using the DataContext. I am new to MVC, Repositories and Services patterns, so suspect that I have wired things up wrong. The Setup Simple eLearning app in its early stages. Pupils need to be able to add and delete courses (Courses table) to their UserCourses. To do this, I have a service that gets a specific DataContext instance Dependency Injected into its constructor. • jQuery animation menu height

  Hey all i have the following jsfiddle Fiddle that i need some help on. When i have my mouse over it-it expands out to a static width but, depending on the text length, it grabs it by the inner's text $('.inner').height(). Problem being is that it goes a little too far beyond the last text list item and when i roll over any of the text in the menu box it slides back up a little. How can prevent it from (1) sliding back up and (2) have the exact height needed without even having the extra space at the bottom of the box for its height? • Reusing my PagedList object on WCF

  The problem: I have a custom collection PagedList<T> that is being returned from my WCF service as PagedListOfEntitySearchResultW_SH0Zpu5 when T is EntitySearchResult object. I want to reuse this PagedList<T> type between the application and the service. My scenario: I've created a PagedList<T> type that inherits from List<T>. This type is on a separated assembly that is referenced on both application and WCF service. I'm using the /reference option on the scvutil to enable the type reusing. I also don't want any arrays returned so I also use the /collection to map to the generic List type. • StackOverflowException throws often when .net application built with Debug mode

  I have an application which access an external webservice often, when i are trying to debug it, means debuging in vistual studio. it often throws out StackOverflowException at the webserverice call point. when building in Release mode , the exception thrown out only occasionally. • How to retrive message list from p2p

  Hello friends I have a messaging system that uses p2p. Each peer has a incoming message list and a outgoing message list. What I need to do is whenever a new peer will join the mesh he will get the all the incoming messages from other peers and add those into it's own incoming message list. Now I know when I get the other peer info from I can ask them to give their own list to me. But I'm not finding the way how..? Any suggestion on this or help would be highly appreciated.   I wrote a .asmx web service which I'm trying to consume from a java client. I'm using axis2's wsdl2java to generate code. But it says that the wsdl is invalid. What exactly is the problem here? It is .net which generated the wsdl automatically after all. Are there problems with wsdl standards, rather the lack of them? What can I do now? • How do I install and use the cli53 tools on Windows?

  I'm trying to find the simplest way to import a large number of BIND zone files in to Route 53. I've had a quick look at the AWS CLI and AWS Tools for Windows PowerShell but they don't seem to include a zone file import option like the AWS Route53 GUI does. The cli53 utility on the other hand does, but is written in Python and appears to have a series of pre-requisites to get going which I'm having troubles working out for Windows. I can find plenty of examples of setting it up under Linux but only one reference to a PowerShell example here, but it doesn't explain how to install cli53 in the first place. The other option I'm exploring is to use the BIND to Amazon Route 53 Conversion Tool perl script to first convert the zone files to the Route53 CreateHostedZoneRequest XML format and then use the AWS New-R53HostedZone PowerShell cmdlet to import the zones. After the zones have been imported I'll be looking at running a script to validate what has been created in Route53 matches with the existing nameserver prior to updating each domains nameserver records - I was planning on whipping something up using the new PS4.0 Resolve-DnsName cmdlet, but let me know if you have any better suggestions. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated - thanks.   Hello ! I have tried to sett my DC to get its time from several NTP severs. First I disable Time Synchronization in the Hyper-V Integration Services for each guest. Then restart the Windows Time serviceon the guest. I had before this used this command: w32tm /config /manualpeerlist:"ntp.uio.no;timekeeper. uio.no;nissen.uio.no;0.no.pool.ntp.org;1.no.pool.ntp.org;2.no.pool.ntp.org" /syn cfromflags:manual /reliable:yes /update And the cmd sad: The command completed successfully. But the time was still 10 min wrong... I run w32tm again after restarted the DC without it having any effect. • SQL Server 2008 Express + Reporting Services on Windows 7

  I'm trying to install SQL Server Express 2008 and Reporting Services on a x64 Windows 7 Machine for development purposes. I've installed SQL Server 2008 Express with the Microsoft Web Platform Installer I had to manually enable the SQL Server Browser in the Sql Server Configuration Manager and tried to enable the SQL Server Agent but that simply doesn't work. Keeps throwing an RPC error: "The remote procedure call failed. [0x800706be]". The start mode is set to Disabled and I cannot change it. Even though I selected the SQL Server Express with advanced services in the web platform installer I could not find any reference to SQL Server Reporting Services so I used the SQL Server Installation Center x64 application to "upgrade" to SQL Server Express 2008 with advanced services... this installed many things but still I couldn't find any reference to SQL Server Reporting Services other than an application called: "Reporting Services Configuration Manager" This opens up a dialog called "Reporting Services Configuration Connection" which is asking for a server name (shows the name of my machine) and a Find button. When I click the find button I get: "Unable to connect to the Reporting Server WMI provider. Details: Invalid Namespace". I found some references on the web to solve this problem, but they refer to a directory: "%ProgamFiles%\Microsoft SQL Server\MSRS10.SQL2008\Reporting Services\" which does not exist anywhere on my system. (The directories for SQL Server are there, but there is no Reporting Services directory anywhere). What am I doing wrong here? Wasn't the web platform installer supposed to handle all this? Thnx for any advice. PS: Most google results refer to 2005 vs 2008 problems, but I never had 2005 installed on this system, it's a newly installed development machine.

• Tomato OS: "memory exhausted" running vi .... how to solve?

  I have set up tomato (shibby) on an asus RT-N66U router. It works great. I loaded up a few pieces, like transmission and optware. I can run vi, but when I run vi it fails with a "memory exhausted" error, and the terminal session hangs. For reference: If I simply start "vi" it runs fine. But if I specify vi I get the memory exhausted error, even if the file I am opening is just a couple of hundred bytes in size (like fstab). I discovered that my swap partition was not properly set up, so I did that. I sometimes see that the last part, to do cleanup after "pgs_backup_stop" is called, hangs while it waits for the last WAL to be created. The REF_FILE to search for is sometimes wrong. I'm also shipping these files to a different machine, every 5 minutes via rsync. • Referencing SQL Server 2008 R2 SMO from Visual Studio 2010

  Hello. We read a number of things about referencing SQL Server SMO from Visual Studio but still don't have the definite answers we need. So, here it goes... A number of years ago we created a C# application using Visual Studio 2005 and SQL Server 2005. In that application, we added .NET references to a number of SQL Server SMO objects, and everything worked fine. Those references were: Microsoft.SqlServer.ConnectionInfo GAC 9.0.242.0 Microsoft.SqlServer.Smo GAC 9.0.242.0 Microsoft.SqlServer.SqlEnum GAC 9.0.242.0 We have now migrated to Visual Studio 2010 and SQL Server 2008 R2. However, when we try to reference those same SMO objects for SQL Server 2008 R2, they don't appear in the .NET references tab. We're wanting to reference the SQL Server 2008 R2 version of those same SMO assemblies for our upgraded C# application. On our development machines, we have SQL Server 2008 R2 Developer installed with all options, including the SDK such that the assemblies are found in C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\100\SDK\Assemblies. So, my first questions are: Are we supposed to do file references to the SMO assemblies instead of .NET references in Visual Studio 2010 w/ SQL Server 2008 R2? Or, is there some problem with our development machines such that the SMO assemblies are not appearing in the .NET references tab? Next, our production machines will have SQL Server 2008 R2 Workgroup installed with the client tools option selected, thus providing those same SMO assemblies in C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\100\SDK\Assemblies. So, the next questions are: When we release to production, are we supposed to redistribute the SMO assemblies with our application? Or, will our application work on the production servers without redistributing the SMO assemblies (since the client tools/SMO assemblies have been installed)? What else????? Thanks for the help!

  Today I noticed that the clock my Cisco ASA 5505 firewall was running about 15 minutes late, which surprised me since I've set up the NTP client. My two NTP servers 10.10.0.1 and 10.10.0.2 are virtualized Windows Server 2008 R2 domain controllers, and both have the correct time. As shown below, the ASA knows about the two servers, can ping them and seems to poll them periodically, so I suppose it can reach them both. The ASA claims its time source is NTP, however the clock is unsynchronized. Neither host is marked as synced. Result of the command: "ping 10.10.0.1" Type escape sequence to abort. • Referencing groups/classes from Puppet dashboard in my site manifest

  I'm using Puppet Dashboard as my ENC and I'm not sure how to reference or use class and group classifications from /etc/puppet/manifests/site.pp. I have two groups defined in the dashboard: CentOS6 and SLES11. What should my site.pp look like if I want to include a certain list of modules in the CentOS6 group and a certain list of modules in the SLES11 group? I'm trying to do something like this: # /etc/puppet/manifests/site.pp node basenode { include hosts include ssh::server include ssh::client include authentication include sudo include syslog include mail } node 'CentOS6' inherits basenode { include profile } node 'SLES11' inherits basenode { include usrmounts } I have OS-specific case statements within my modules, but there are some modules that will only be applied to a certain distro. So I suppose I have two questions: Is this the best way to apply modules/resources in an OS-specific manner? Or does the above make you want to vomit? Regardless of #1, I'm still curious as how to reference classes, groups, and nodes from Dashboard within my manifests. I've read the External Nodes doc, but I'm not seeing how they correspond to manifests. Thanks all.

• Random Excel bug when referencing a different sheet

  I am getting a very strange error anytime I try to use a formula pointing to a cell in a different sheet from the active one (even as simple as "=Sheet2!A1"). This started happening all of a sudden, and without any change in the system - only I seem to having started having the problem since I started using a workbook from another colleague with the same issue. I'm running Excel 2003 SP3 on XP. With little variants, whenever I reference a cell in a different sheet, from any formula, and then press Enter, the formula gets written on a different cell from the one I was editing it in, and throws a REF error. Example: I start editing in cell A1 of Sheet 1, type "=", then move the cursor to cell B2 of Sheet 2 (that may contain any value), and press Enter. At this stage you would expect cell A1 in Sheet 1 to contain formula "=Sheet2!B2" and display the value in that cell. Instead what happens is that the cell remains empty, and another random cell of Sheet 1 gets populated with something like "=Sheet2!#REF!" throwing an error. Interestingly, the error does not happen when I manually type the cell reference in (ie. without moving the cursor to the second sheet). Hope this is making any sense - any ideas are welcome! • Printer Naming Conventions

  I am working on building a new AD print server and have been pondering the idea of renaming the printers. Right now we have a mix of names that varies between a mashup of some that reference location, some that reference functional area, and some that are rather generic. Some examples include the following: Dell 5210 - Building Name HP 4350 - Functional Area Dell Color 3100 - Location and Building Number HP 6500 - Mailroom I was curious what other people used to name their printers with. What conventions do you use and how to design a method that will be able to be used for a while without needing to rename them all again. Also, the naming methodology needs to be understandable for regular computing users so that they can relatively easily find the printer that they need. I was looking at some ideas from here, but I was not sure how practical some of them are. Any help that you can provide is appreciated. Note: I have reviewed many of the postings on here in relation to server naming conventions and found that they were not specific enough for the use case I present above.

  Hi, We have an existing (production) Hyper-V VM that I want to clone to create a staging server. This server is NOT on a domain/active-directory - uses all local computer accounts. It is Windows 2008 OS, SharePoint 2007, SQL server 2008, Reporting Services, and some custom line-of-business web-applications. We rename the server etc as per the documentation we have, but are having troubles specifically with SharePoint. Some of the sites do not come up, and some issues adding/updating site settings such as site owners. Does anyone know of a definitive resource to this process? thanks Update: We seem to have most working, but the Shared Service Provider, and the SSP's admin site, are not working. In addition, the custom web-parts that reference IIS Session objects are failing (which seem to be related to the Share Service Provider). All the Windows user accounts for various services are renamed during the server cloning, but the windows account names in SQL server are not automatically changed. • How can I boot from .iso images stored on the harddrive ?

  I want to put a .iso file of a bootable linux CD on the harddrive of my computer. I want to have it boot using grub (or lilo), and have it boot from the .iso file as if the .iso was a real CD in the CDROM drive. Here is a page that makes reference to doing this, but instead of a .iso file it is a .img file of a floppy or a whole harddisk installation: http://grub4dos.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/Grub4dos%5Ftutorial That page makes reference to "cdrom emulation is not supported", but I don't know if it is not supported in grub, or if what want to do is completely impossible. Apparently Epidemic Linux (and maybe Knoppix ?) have a "bootfrom" parameter: "Using the parameter “bootfrom=/partition/path” you can start Epidemic from an ISO image located anywhere on the HD without having to create a DVD. This is very handy for testing the system." (From www.epidemiclinux.org/ ) Drew P.S. I am NOT interested in installing the CD on the harddrive. • Productive Writing Software

  What do you guys use to write a personal journal, notes, and reference information that you want to group and search through later? I'm not one of those crazy people who likes to share their journal with the world. Some things I like to keep to myself. It's quite nice to have a reference. Preferences for cross-platform stuff (windows, mac, linux) Some Background For Windows, there's a program called Yeah Write, which really changed my expectations about how easy it should be to start writing something. You don't open or close files -- just click an empty slot and start writing, or click a filled slot to work on another file. And you can organize things into categories by creating tabs. Now that I carry a Macbook, I've just been using TextEdit. I like it because I can't lose my work when my computer crashes: it auto-saves everything and restores it when I launch TextEdit again. But I make a mess, leave thirty open files, and save everything to one directory with no tags for easy grouping. Saving files and selecting the directory they should be in is too clunky to do in the middle of a meeting. And organizing files into folders in the Finder is a pain, since there's no tree view like on Windows. Sure, I'm lazy, but I miss Yeah Write. I'm not going to get a windows laptop just to use it though. Since the laptop I take my notes on is a mac, I'm gonna be biased toward mac solutions.

• Will a SQL Server client alias survive a sysprep?

  I want to sysprep a Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 machine that has SQL Server 2008 R2 SP1 installed (for reference, SQL Server 2008 R2 has a new sysprep feature that allows the instance to be sysprepped). On the server is a SQL Server client alias that points to the default SQL Server database engine instance. For reference, the alias is called Alias-SQLServer and has been configured in both 32-bit and 64-bit cliconfig versions (that is, both registry keys exist) The alias points to the local instance as the image will be used to create development VMs and the installation script for the application that is being developed will use the SQL Server client alias in order to generalize the installation scripts. I can't seem to find information about whether the sysprep tool will update the SQL Server client alias's registry keys with the server's new name once it's unsealed. My guess is that it is not; how is sysprep to know that the server name the alias points to will be different for each image? Right? Perhaps if the alias points to localhost instead of the server name this will work?
