• What RSS Reader can handle item-updating (JIRA search) feeds?

  Thunderbird is a good rss reader in terms of being able to connect successfully to jira authenticated search feeds (where evolution-rss and Liferea can't), but really sucks when it comes to updating. A Jira search feed will give a link id to http://jira/browse/[ticket no], and if that ticket/feed-item is updated, thunderbird refuses to update it - it already has it! (even though the item date does not match). Also, if you delete the ticket update, it will never show up again for that news account. Has anybody found an RSS reader that can work with JIRA/updating RSS items? Note: this is not the same as Jira activity feeds - those work great, as each update has a unique item id To replicate: Grab a search (any search) Get it into your rss reader Read an item, modify the linked ticket Update rss and see if the ticket bumps to most recent and unread or, generically: Get an rss feed (from your hard drive?) • Why times elapsed connecting to a server are different?

  I have a small program which connects to a server of my choice and measures the time elapsed to do so. Each time I run it it returns different result. My question is what does this time depend on ? Network congestion for one. If I choose a server that has multiple addresses e.g. google.com the length of physical link may differ from time to time ? Is it safe to assume that it also affects connection time ? Are there any other factors in place ?

• System fan connection on Mini-ITX server case and motherboard

  The case: Newegg listing for Chenbro ES34169-BK-120 The motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-D525TUD (Newegg has it as well but I can't post more than one link due to being a new user) As far as the question, the system fan I have no idea how to get these to connect to the motherboard. There are two connectors which then go to extension fan cables. So when you connect these, it should be good, but the extension cables are two connectors that go to the system fans and a female molex connector (if you click the Chenbro listing, look at the 6th picture and you'll see the two connections being made and the molex connector just kind of hanging out in the case). Is there a piece I'm missing to get it to connect to the 3 pin sys_fan section of the board? Thanks,

• BizTalk 2009 - Scoped Record Counting in Maps

  Within BizTalk there is a functoid called Record Count that will return the number of instances of a repeated record or repeated element that occur in a message instance. The input to this functoid is the record or element to be counted. As an example take the following Source schema, where the Source message has a repeated record called Box and each Box has a repeated element called Item: An instance of this Source schema may look as follows; 2 box records - one with 2 items and one with only 1 item. Our destination schema has a number of elements and a repeated box record.  The top level elements contain totals for the number of boxes and the overall number of items.  Each box record contains a single element representing the number of items in that box. Using the Record Count functoid it is easy to map the top level elements, producing the expected totals of 2 boxes and 3 items: We now need to map the total number of items per box, but how will we do this?  We have already seen that the record count functoid returns the total number of instances for the entire message, and unfortunately it does not allow you to specify a scoping parameter.  In order to acheive Scoped Record Counting we will need to make use of a combination of functoids. As you can see above, by linking to a Logical Existence functoid from the record/element to be counted we can then feed the output into a Value Mapping functoid.  Set the other Value Mapping parameter to "1" and link the output to a Cumulative Sum functoid. Set the other Cumulative Sum functoid parameter to "1" to limit the scope of the Cumulative Sum. This gives us the expected results of Items per Box of 2 and 1 respectively. I ran into this issue with a larger schema on a more complex map, but the eventual solution is still the same.  Hopefully this simplified example will act as a good reminder to me and save someone out there a few minutes of brain scratching.

• Yoga Pro 2 Wi-Fi not working

  I installed Ubuntu 14.04 on my new Yoga Pro 2 and the wireless is not working. It started with Windows 8 on it. The Network Manager says Wi-Fi is disabled by hardware switch. I tried putting a blacklist file in ect/modprobe.d as has been suggested in many places. I called the file "blacklist-ideapad_laptop.conf" and wrote in the file blacklist ideapad_laptop I checked to make sure that the wireless is enabled in the BIOS. It is. I ran rfkill list all and it displayed: 0: hci0: Bluetooth Soft blocked: no Hard blocked: no 2: phy0: Wireless LAN Soft blocked: no Hard blocked: yes I ran iwlist wlan0 scan and it displayed: wlan0 Failed to read scan data : Network is down I ran sudo rmmod ideapad_laptop and it displayed: rmmod: ERROR: Module ideapad_laptop is not currently loaded. I ran ifconfig wlp1s0 up and it displayed: wlp1s0: ERROR while getting interface flags: No such device. It suggests that I need to update my firmware. So I downloaded iwlwifi-7260-ucode-23.214.9.0 from Intel's website. I put the file "iwlwifi-7260-9.ucode" in /lib/firmware and ran "sudo lshw -c network" again. It displayed exactly as before. Is there something else I need to do install the new firmware?

• Which iptables rule do you think is a 'must have'

  I have some basic iptable rules set up now for my vps. Just block everything except some default ports, 80,21,22,443. I do get brute forced a lot. I have heard that iptables is very powerful but I have not seen many use cases. Can you give me an example of a(some) rule(s) you always use and give a small example why. I can not find a general best practice post here on SF, if there is any I would like the link. If this is a duplicate I am sorry and it can be closed.

• Has anyone managed to install Office Webapps on SharePoint 2010, on Windows 7 ?

  I've installed SharePoint 2010 as a development environment on my Windows 7 x64 environment (notes here) and would like to install Office Web Apps onto it also. However, when trying to install (following this link), I get an error saying that Web roles aren't installed. The error message in the log file is: Start C:\Windows\system32\ServerManagerCmd.exe -whatif -inputpath C:\Users\nickh\AppData\Local\Temp\PRE1.tmp.XML Error: Failed to start process for file: C:\Windows\system32\ServerManagerCmd.exe arguments: -whatif -inputpath C:\Users\nickh\AppData\Local\Temp\PRE1.tmp.XML ErrorCode: 2(0x2). Which is effectively saying that ServerManagerCmd is not found. It isn't on my machine as it is deprecated and replaced by Powershell functions, but is on Server 2008 R2. I've tried copying that over and it just fails to run. Is there a way to get Office WebApps installed on Win7 ? Is there a way to get a working version of ServerManagerCmd.exe on a Windows 7 x64 environment ? Many thanks

• Bad archive mirror using PXE boot method

  I'm trying to automatically install Ubuntu on a client PC by using the PXE BOOT method....my Objectives are below: I am following the steps given in this link installation using PXE BOOT the server will have a KICKSTART config file which contains the parameters for the OS installation and the files which are required for the OS installations. the client will have to detect this configuration along with the setup files and complete the installation without any input from the user. In my server I have installed DHCP3-server,Apache2 and TFTP to help me with the installation. I have nearly achieved my first objective, I am able to boot my client using the files stored in the server but during the installation stage it is asking me to CHOOSE A MIRROR OF UBUNTU ARCHIVE I gave the server's IP address and the path in the server where the files are located but then its giving me this error BAD ARCHIVE MIRROR So is it possible that instead of downloading all the files from the internet and storing them on my disk can I use the files which comes with the UBUNTU-CD, and how to store these files in what format (should I zip them) on the disk? secondly I am also generating the ks.cfg which I wanted to give to the client for automatic installation of the OS. So how should the configuration file be given to the installation process?

• SVN Server not responding

  I've been bashing my head against a wall with this one all day and I would greatly appreciate a few more eyes on the problem at hand. We have an in-house SVN Server that contains all live and development code for our website. Our live server can connect to this and get updates from the repository. This was all working fine until we migrated the SVN Server from a physical machine to a vSphere VM. Now, for some reason that continues to fathom me, we can no longer connect to the SVN Server. The SVN Server runs CentOS 6.2, Apache and SVN 1.7.2. SELinux is well and trully disabled and the problem remains when iptables is stopped. Our production server does run an older version of CentOS and SVN but the same system worked previously so I don't think that this is the issue. Of note, if I have iptables enabled, using service iptables status, I can see a single packet coming in and being accepted but the production server simply hangs on any svn command. If I give up waiting and do a CTRL-C to break the process I get a "could not connect to server". To me it appears to be something to do with the SVN Server rejecting external connections but I have no idea how this would happen. Any thoughts on what I can try from here? • Fun Upgrading to .Net 4.0

  We are currently in the process of upgrading one of our applications to .Net 4.0. Aside from us geeks wanting to always use latest and greatest technologies, an immediate business need for Silverlight 4.0 features justified our upgrade endeavor. The following is a summary of some issues we ran into with our web project:   For security purposes, the IIS 7 .Net 4.0 ISAPI filter is disabled. “Allow” it from the ISAPI and CGI Restrictions screen as shown:   Figure 1 - Allowing ASP.Net 4.0 ISAPI Filter   By default the Web Setup Project only requires the .Net Framework 4 Client Profile to be installed on target system, which offers a lighter weight install for client machines consuming .Net 4.0 applications. However, using certain .Net 4.0 features requires the full .Net 4.0 Framework as outlined in this link: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc656912.aspx. We hence needed to update the installer to require the complete .Net 4.0 Framework on the target machine and to prompt for its installation if needed.   To accomplish this goal, we updated the installer’s launch conditions to check for .Net 4.0 as well as the installer prerequisites as shown:     Figure 2- Ensure Web Setup Project runs on full .Net 4.0 version Figure 3 - Launch Conditions screen Figure 4 - Set launch condition to .Net 4.0. • Missing driver ASUS PCE-N53 11n N600 PCI-E Adapter

  I have problems with getting an Asus PCE-N53 11n N600 PCI-E Adapter card to work on my desktop computer. As far as I can tell no drivers are installed for the card. I know I can manually download the drivers directly from Asus, but I would rather not go that route. • How do I protect large file downloads through PHP and/or Apache?

  We have some large files (1-8GB) that are not publicly accessible. Currently we're serving them up through a PHP script that buffers the files in 1MB chunks and writes it to the output. It's incredibly CPU intensive and slows the server down when only a few downloads are active. We want to move the file transfer work to Apache or a more efficient method. We are using cookie authentication. FTP downloads are out unless there's some way to authenticate FTP sessions through the existing PHP session cookie. Ideally we'd like something where we can use PHP to hide the link to the file while it passes off the file transfer work to Apache, which is no doubt far more efficient at HTTP file transfers than PHP. We want to be able to resume downloads as well. Any help is appreciated.

• Museum of Modern Art Starts Video Game Collection; Acquires Myst, Pac-Man, and More

  The Museum of Modern Art is weighing in on the video-games-as-art debate by starting a collection of iconic video games and putting them up for public display. Read on to see what games are included in the initial batch and the MoMA’s reasons behind starting a video game collection. Although the MoMA is slated to grow to over 40 titles, the seed batch is 14 titles including: Pac-Man, Tetris, Sim City 2000, Myst, Portal, and Dwarf Fortress. In the announcement they explain the motivation for building a video game collection: Are video games art? They sure are, but they are also design, and a design approach is what we chose for this new foray into this universe. The games are selected as outstanding examples of interaction design—a field that MoMA has already explored and collected extensively, and one of the most important and oft-discussed expressions of contemporary design creativity. Our criteria, therefore, emphasize not only the visual quality and aesthetic experience of each game, but also the many other aspects—from the elegance of the code to the design of the player’s behavior—that pertain to interaction design. In order to develop an even stronger curatorial stance, over the past year and a half we have sought the advice of scholars, digital conservation and legal experts, historians, and critics, all of whom helped us refine not only the criteria and the wish list, but also the issues of acquisition, display, and conservation of digital artifacts that are made even more complex by the games’ interactive nature. This acquisition allows the Museum to study, preserve, and exhibit video games as part of its Architecture and Design collection. • How to overcome politics of the net (Google translate code refuses to work from a specific region)

  According to the FAQ's I am not sure if my question is a ok to ask or will be closed or should I post it in the meta or even I would blame some one for downvoting it. However it is one that has been bugging me since the trouble strated. Let me explain. I have this Web Site. On the site you can see that I had to actually remove the above from here, here, and here while left it here, here, here and here. This is so because the the web site "refuses" to load at all with the pages that have the code (i.e., from this region.) If I use Firefox Stealthy Plugin and open the site in Firefox, It works like a charm without any problems. But with Google Chrome, Apple Safari and Opera Web browser, the site does not load/open at all because of the Google translate. (I know this because If I remove the Google Translate Code, the site works/loads fine) It was one thing to program for "cross browser compatability" and alltogether another to program for "cross region compatability". What can I do to make sure that the site works from anywhere? Do I completely remove the Google Translate code and just have to do without the additional functionality or Do I look for alternatives like this or according to this?

• Ubuntu 9.10 + LXDE Error unmet dependencies

  I am working on Ubuntu 9.10 + LXDE as my current project. I am finding it difficult to install any new packages on this OS. For example, I need to install OpenCv package for qt webcam application, but every time it gives unmet dependencies error.And when i try to install dependencies it again show some more dependencies and so on and forms a circular loops. for example: sudo apt-get install libcv-dev .. .... The following packages have unmet dependencies: libcv-dev: Depends: libhighgui-dev (=1.0.0-6.2ubuntu1) but it is not going to installed. E: Broken packages Then I try to install libhighgui-dev as follow: sudo appt-get install libhighgui-dev .. ... The following packages have unmet dependencies: libhighgui-dev: Depends: libgtk2.0-dev but it is not going to installed E: Broken packages And this goes on never ending. Please suggest me something, as i have googled a lot and did not found any help. It may be , i m missing some primary packages to be installed.But how to find it? • Is there a command-line utility app which can find a specific block of lines in a text file, and replace it?

  UPDATE (see end of question) The text "search and replace" utility programs I've seen, seem to only search on a line-by-line basis... Is there a command-line tool which can locate one block of lines (in a text file), and replace it with another block of lines.? For example: Does the test file file contain this exact group of lines: 'Twas brillig, and the slithy toves Did gyre and gimble in the wabe: All mimsy were the borogoves, And the mome raths outgrabe. 'Beware the Jabberwock, my son! The jaws that bite, the claws that catch! Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun The frumious Bandersnatch!' I want this, so that I can replace multiple lines of text in a file and know I'm not overwriting the wrong lines. I would never replace "The Jabberwocky" (Lewis Carroll), but it makes a novel example :) UPDATE: ..(sub-update) My following comment about reasons when not use sed are only in the context of; don't push any tool too far beyond its design intent (I use sed quite often, and consider it to be invaluable.) I just now found an interesting web page about sed and when not to use it. So, because of all the sed answers, I"ll post the link.. it is part of the sed FAQ on sourceforge Also, I'm pretty sure there is some way diff can do the job of locating the block of text (once it's located, the replacement is quite straight foward; using head and tail) ... 'diff' dumps all the necessary data, but I haven't yet worked out how to filter it , ... (I'm still working on it)

• Recommendations for managing dedicated server DNS

  I've rented a dedicated server for several years with a number of domains. I've got a coding background so am comfortable with that side of the tech, but I hate that I still don't truly understand DNS settings. Example: My provider (hostgator) just told me that my parent nameservers are not correctly configured as there is no A record for my primary nameserver. What book/link/tutorial should I read to go from kind of understanding that comment to really understanding it & knowing exactly what I need to do to fix it rather than trial & error which is what I usually do. Thanks BTW I'm using a WHM/cpanel linux setup at hostgator but am eager to learn the fundamentals.

• Motherboard max memory supported

  I have an Intel DG965RY motherboard and its specification says it supports 8GB with 533 or 667Mhz RAM sticks and only 4GB with 800Mhz RAM sticks. I am running a 64bit OS. I earlier had 2 X 1GB sticks (800Mhz), so I bought 2 X 2GB sticks (800Mhz) and I underclocked them in the settings to run at 667Mhz. Shouldn't it support all 6GB RAM now? It would be a bummer if I will specifically need 667Mhz sticks thinking that at the worst they will underclock and then run at 667Mhz. I tried this because I saw someone posted at some forum that he put in 4GB+ of RAM in the same board @ 800Mhz and the system uses it all. In my case (On Ubuntu), it only shows 3.2GB as of now (link to Question) so needed to confirm if this is a hardware limitation.

• Pagination for product listing, what to use? "canonical" or "rel-prev-next" or do nothing?

  I want to make sure my product listing is 10 products per page which are not in a series (link). They have explained how to use canonical or rel prev for pagination when a long page has been divided into multiple page and the multiple pages becomes a series were as my condition is not that. They are unique listing which are not related to each listing... All the listing links leads to a product profile page. So lets say my site is all about cars and I have a Used Audi page with 1000 Audi's for sale. There are 10 used audi cars on each page so there's 100 pages in the series. If I start to utilise Rel="prev" and rel="next" should I set page 2 onwards as index,follow or noindex,follow? The content on Page 2 all the way to 100 only changes ever so slightly as different cars will be for sale on different pages but from a "Panda" point of view the pages are incredibly similar as they'd hold the same meta data as page 1 in the series along with duplicate reviews & news etc. I want Page 1 in the series as the Main page for Google to send users too and I don't see the point in Google indexing page 2 100. What's everyone's view on this? Lastly with the rel="canonical" tag should page 2 to 100 all point back to page 1 in the series or the individual page itself? E.G: /used-audi/page-3/.

• Recommendations for a web-based help system

  Hi Experts, I'm putting together a fairly large GUI. I'm a tech person, but more on the hardware side, not software. I'm wondering what software package would be best suited to enable me to generate a web-based help-system. Preferably it takes care of a lot of coding, allowing me to focus on the content. For example, the user would click on a link in the GUI when they have a question, that brings them to a web-based Help Guide, for example, providing an overview of how to use the GUI, perhaps a searchable index (key-word based index), table of contents, etc, for navigating through the Help Guide. My first thought was to program everything in XHTML using Dreamweaver, but my layout requirements are fairly modest (just figures and text, maybe a few equations), and I'd prefer not to spend a lot of time concentrating on the programming. Was wondering if any software existed that made generating web-based navigatable pages easy to create/publish. Again, I'm not really a programmer, so if there's something obvious out there, I'm probably not aware of it. Any advice much appreciated! Thanks in advance.

• Lost contact with my NAS after changing its IP

  I did some brain-dead reconfiguring of my D-Link DNS-323 NAS some days ago. I have a home network where each computer gets a dynamically allocated IP address starting at 192.168.1.100. The irritating point (for me at least) was that the NAS changed IP if the power went down or I turned off the router. I then had to remap a drive-letter to point to the new IP address of the NAS. To remedy that I configured the NAS to have a static IP, 192.168.0.10. I had no good reason to choose that IP, other than I found it in a user manual for the NAS. After I changed the IP and rebooted the NAS it disappeared from the network and was never to be found again. Now I have a black brick standing in my home, looking good, but "dead". Could anyone point me in a direction which helps me solve this problem? I have about 100gb worth of pic of my children on this brick so I really want it back :-) Sincerely,

• Making an advertising server ads from different ad networks

  In India there are many ad-networks(other than Adsense) who pay per acquisition or per lead. So Javascript ad code is not required(as fraud clicks don't matter as long as one converts). So an ad network will have many companies and each company will have many banner sizes for ads. Also suddenly any ad may be stopped just because company's target has met. Which is a common nuisance since if we don't remove those url's then that company will get conversions for free. I've a dozen sites and removing the ads are difficult every now and then. Also CPA based ads may not convert at all. That means I'll need to remove non-performing ads regularly. I've gone through: How can I show multiple ad networks on my site? . I've also visited DFP solution but without Adsense they wouldn't let me open account. I want to make an ad server wherein I'll feed new ads (banner image + link for click). I want to maintain categories there like ( shoes, phones, books etc). So if an ad is paused - i'll simply remove/pause the ad there while other ads in the category keep running. Also changing ad code within sites will no more be required. For example - let me have an ad category "clothing" where I can add ads from different companies. So if one of my site requests an ad from there it'll randomly select an ad in this category and return it to site for display. Removing/adding ads within this category will not affect the site requesting those ads. Any idea how to implement it?
