  • ASP.NET Projects with Two Versions of AjaxControlToolkit

    - by Chris
In my Solution I have three projects. Project A is a web app and uses version 1.0.10618.0 of the AjaxControlToolkit. I would love to upgrade it to the latest but unfortunately any newer release completely breaks a portion of my site. Project B is also a web app but is a completely new software product and so it uses (and relies on) the latest version of the AjaxControlToolkit. Everything works great. Thought A and B are totally different products they use the same DB and rely on the same ClassLibrary. Project C is a small web app that ties A and B together with certain functionality like forgot password pages. The pages in this app reside in a virtual directory of both A and B. Project C currently uses v1.0.10618.0 of the toolkit so it works with Project A but it fails with project B because the manifest definitions of the dlls don't match (to be expected). What I've done is built a new dll of the toolkit and changed the assembly and namespace to AjaxControlToolkit_v1 and then changed all v1 references to this new dll so the old version and new versions can sit side by side in the same bin folder and nobody complains. I then changed my web.config controls tag to look like this: <add tagPrefix="ajaxToolkit" namespace="AjaxControlToolkit_v1" assembly="AjaxControlToolkit_v1, Version=1.0.10618.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=28f01b0e84b6d53e"/> This all works except I get a runtime error of: Unknown server tag 'ajaxToolkit:AnimationExtender'. I can't figure out why this is, any ideas on how to remedy it?

  • ASP.NET MVC and AjaxFileUpload

    - by Jimbojones
Ok, this is driving me nuts. I have been trying to figure this out forever now. I want to to perform an async upload using ajaxFileUpload. I have it posting the file to my controller just fine, however, when i try to return a JsonResult from it, I get a "Save File As" dialog box. I have tried everything to get around this and i either get an error or the "Save As" dialog. Im assuming that it has something to do with the content type that is being passed in when the file gets posted. I would be greatly appreciative if anyone could help. Thanks in advance!

  • null values from listbox, are not evaluated in the model binding of ASP.NET-MVC

    - by Jorge
    The model validation doesn't evaluates the attributes linked to listbox values if you don't select at least one of them. This way is not possible to do a model evaluation using DataAnnotations in order to inform required values. The controller: using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; using System.Web; using System.Web.Mvc; using TestValidation.Models; namespace TestValidation.Controllers { [HandleError] public class HomeController : Controller { private SelectList list = new SelectList(new List<string>() { "Sao Paulo", "Toronto", "New York", "Vancouver" }); public ActionResult Index() { ViewData["ModelState"] = "NOT EVAL"; ViewData["ItemsList"] = list; return View(); } [AcceptVerbs(HttpVerbs.Post)] public ActionResult Index(MyEntity entity) { if (ModelState.IsValid) { ViewData["ModelState"] = "VALID"; } else { ViewData["ModelState"] = "NOT VALID!!!"; } ViewData["ItemsList"] = list; return View(); } public ActionResult About() { return View(); } } } The View: <%@ Page Language="C#" MasterPageFile="~/Views/Shared/Site.Master" Inherits="System.Web.Mvc.ViewPage<TestValidation.Models.MyEntity>" %> <asp:Content ID="indexTitle" ContentPlaceHolderID="TitleContent" runat="server"> Home Page </asp:Content> <asp:Content ID="indexContent" ContentPlaceHolderID="MainContent" runat="server"> <h2> Validation Test</h2> <p> <% using (Html.BeginForm()) {%> <fieldset> <p> ModelState: <%= Html.Encode((string)ViewData["ModelState"])%> </p> <p> <label for="Name"> Name:</label> <%= Html.TextBoxFor(m => m.Name)%> <%= Html.ValidationMessageFor(m => m.Name)%> </p> <p> <label for="ItemFromList"> Items (list):</label> <%= Html.ListBoxFor(m => m.ItemFromList, ViewData["ItemsList"] as SelectList)%> <%= Html.ValidationMessageFor(m => m.ItemFromList)%> </p> <p> <label for="ItemFromCombo"> Items (combo):</label> <%= Html.DropDownListFor(m => m.ItemFromCombo, ViewData["ItemsList"] as SelectList)%> <%= Html.ValidationMessageFor(m => m.ItemFromCombo)%> </p> <p> <input type="submit" value="Submit" /> </p> </fieldset> <% } %> </asp:Content> The Model: using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; using System.Web; using System.ComponentModel.DataAnnotations; namespace TestValidation.Models { public class MyEntity_Validate : ValidationAttribute { public MyEntity_Validate() { this.ErrorMessage = "Validated!. Is <> Toronto"; } public override bool IsValid(object value) { return ((string)value == "Toronto"); } } public class MyEntity { [Required] public string Name { get; set; } [MyEntity_Validate] public string ItemFromList { get; set; } [MyEntity_Validate] public string ItemFromCombo { get; set; } } } Any help would be very much appreciated.   • ASP.NET GridView - Editing Dynamic Template Columns

    - by user208662
Hello, I have created a GridView whose columns are dynamically created based on my data source. I have implemented these columns by using the approach described here. Those columns display properly on the initial load. However, I need to implement commanding so that a user can edit / delete a row in the GridView. At this point, I have implemented commanding as I would with a normal GridView. I have a TemplateField with an ItemTemplate that has LinkButton elements for edit and delete. The CommandName for each LinkButton is set to either Edit or Delete respectively. Oddly, when a user clicks either the Edit or Delete link, the data in the GridView disappears. However, I have verified that I am in fact re-binding the data when one of these LinkButton elements is selected. Can anyone provide some suggestions as to what the cause could be? Thank you!

  • ASP.NET MVC - Javascript array always passed to controller as null

    - by Xuan Vu
I'm having some problem with passing a javascript array to the controller. I have several checkboxes on my View, when a checkbox is checked, its ID will be saved to an array and then I need to use that array in the controller. Here are the code: VIEW: var selectedSearchUsers = new Array(); $(document).ready(function () { $("#userSearch").click(function () { selectedSearchUsers.length = 0; ShowLoading(); $.ajax({ type: "POST", url: '/manage/searchusers', dataType: "json", data: $("#userSearchForm").serialize(), success: function (result) { UserSearchSuccess(result); }, cache: false, complete: function () { HideLoading(); } }); }); $(".userSearchOption").live("change", function () { var box = $(this); var id = box.attr("dataId"); var checked = box.attr("checked"); if (checked) { selectedSearchUsers.push(id); } else { selectedSearchUsers.splice(selectedSearchUsers.indexOf(id), 1); } }); $("#Send").click(function () { var postUserIDs = { values: selectedSearchUsers }; ShowLoading(); $.post("/Manage/ComposeMessage", postUserIDs, function (data) { }, "json"); }); }); When the "Send" button is clicked, I want to pass the selectedSearchUsers to the "ComposeMessage" action. Here is the Action code: public JsonResult ComposeMessage(List values) { //int count = selectedSearchUsers.Length; string count = values.Count.ToString(); return Json(count); } However, the List values is always null. Any idea why? Thank you very much.

  • Error using ASP.NET 3.5 Chart control within a Repeater control

    - by tuseau
Hi, I'm getting the error "Microsoft JScript runtime error: Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManagerServerErrorException: Error executing child request for ChartImg.axd" at runtime from my Chart control. I have read one solution to this error message as documented here: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/MSWinWebChart/thread/1dc4b352-c9a5-49dc-8f35-9b176509faa1/ but this does not solve my problem. I have the Chart within a Repeater control, which is within an ajax UpdatePanel. When I take the chart out of the Repeater (but leave it in the UpdatePanel), it works. So I'm thinking it is to do with the Repeater. Anyone got any ideas? Thanks in advance.

  • ASP.NET MVC - Localization route

    - by ropstah
Hi, i'd like to create localized URL's for my site. They should obviously point to the same controller actions, but I want the first routevalues to -always- be the location/language specification. Is this possible? http://www.website.com/en/us/controller/action http://www.website.com/en/gb/controller/action I understand it can be done by defining {language} and {location} in every route, but i'm looking for a slick, non-hacky solution.

  • jQuery autocomplete pass null paramter to the controller in ASP.NET MVC 2

    - by myaesubi
I'm using jQuery autocomplete plugin from jQuery website calling the controller url which return json in return. The problem is the parameter sent to the controller is always null. Here is the in-browser jQuery code for the autocomplete: $(document).ready(function() { var url = "/Building/GetMatchedCities"; $("#City").autocomplete(url); }); and here is the ASPNET MVC controller signature in C#: public JsonResult GetMatchedCities(string city) { .. return this.Json(query, JsonRequestBehavior.AllowGet); } Thanks in advance, Mohammad

  • DDD principlers and ASP.NET MVC project design

    - by kaivalya
Two part questions I have a product aggregate that has; Prices PackagingOptions ProductDescriptions ProductImages etc I have modeled one product repository and did not create individual repositories for any of the child classes. All db operations are handled through product repository. Am I understanding the DDD concept correctly so far? Sometimes the question comes to my mind that having a repository for lets say packaging options could make my life easier by directly fetching a the packaging option from the DB by using its ID instead of asking the product repository to find it in its PackagingOptions collection and give it to me.. Second part is managing the edit create operations using ASP.MVC frame work I am currently trying to manage all add edit remove of these child collections of product through product controller(sound right?). One challenge I am now facing is; If I edit a specific packaging option of product through mydomain/product/editpackagingoption/10 I have access to the id of the packaging option But I don't have the ID of the product it self and this forces me to write a query to first find the product that has this specific packaging option then edit that product and the revelant packaging option. I can do this as all packaging option have their unique ID but this would fail if I have collections that don't have unique ID. That feels very wrong.. The next option I thought of is sending both the product and packaging option IDs on the url like; mydomain/product/editpackagingoption/3/10 But I am not sure if that is a good design either. So I am at a point that I am a bit confused. might be having fundamental misunderstandings around all of this... I would appreciate if you bear with the long question and help me put this together. thanks!

  • ASP.net MVC - Update Model on complex models

    - by ludicco
Hi there, I'm struggling myself trying to get the contents of a form which is a complex model and then update the model with that complex model. My account model has many individuals [AcceptVerbs(HttpVerbs.Post)] public ActionResult OpenAnAccount(string area,[Bind(Exclude = "Id")]Account account, [Bind(Prefix="Account.Individuals")] EntitySet<Individual> individuals){ var db = new DB(); account.individuals = invdividuals; db.Accounts.InsertOnSubmit(account); db.SubmitChanges(); } So it works nicely for adding new Records, but not for update them like: [AcceptVerbs(HttpVerbs.Post)] public ActionResult OpenAnAccount(string area,[Bind(Exclude = "Id")]Account account, [Bind(Prefix="Account.Individuals")] EntitySet<Individual> individuals){ var db = new DB(); var record = db.Accounts.Single(a => a.Reference == area); account.individuals = invdividuals; try{ UpdateModel(record, account); // I can't convert account ToValueProvider() db.SubmitChanges(); } catch{ return ... //Error Message } } My problem is being how to use UpdateModel with the account model since it's not a FormCollection. How can I convert it? How can I use ToValueProvider with a complex model? I hope I was clear enough Thanks a lot :)

  • ASP.NET MembershipProvider and StructureMap

    - by Ben
I was using the default AspNetSqlMembershipProvider in my application. Authentication is performed via an AuthenticationService (since I'm also supporting other forms of membership like OpenID). My AuthenticationService takes a MembershipProvider as a constructor parameter and I am injecting the dependency using StructureMap like so: For<MembershipProvider>().Use(Membership.Provider); This will use the MembershipProvider configured in web.config. All this works great. However, now I have rolled my own MembershipProvider that makes use of a repository class. Since the MembershipProvider isn't exactly IoC friendly, I added the following code to the MembershipProvider.Initialize method: _membershipRepository = ObjectFactory.GetInstance<IMembershipRepository>(); However, this raises an exception, like StructureMap hasn't been initialized (cannot get instance of IMembershipRepository). However, if I remove the code and put breakpoints at my MembershipProvider's initialize method and my StructureMap bootstrapper, it does appear that StructureMap is configured before the MembershipProvider is initialized. My only workaround so far is to add the above code to each method in the MembershipProvider that needs the repository. This works fine, but I am curious as to why I can't get my instance in the Initialize method. Is the MembershipProvider performing some internal initialization that runs before any of my own application code does? Thanks Ben

  • creating new usercntrols at runtime in ASP.NET MVC

    - by Paul Connolly
Hi everyone, My situation is that the user is creating an entity on my site which contains the particlars of the driectors of that company, name address etc.. The Director form is a separate user control with the appropriate textboxes etc. At run time we don't know how many of these directors there will be so I need one to be able to use something like an "ADD DIRECTOR" or "DELETE DIRECTOR" button which will present or delete the another usercontrol to add the additional director. Currently I am trying to make this happen within a pane of the JQuery Accordion control. I have looked many places for how to do this but to no avail. Can anyone tell me where I might find some inforamation about how I can do this? All the best Paul

  • .NET SerialPort DataReceived event thread interference with main thread

    - by Kiran
I am writing a serial communication program using the SerialPort class in C# to interact with a strip machine connected via a RS232 cable. When i send the command to the machine it responds with some bytes depending on the command. Like when i send a "\D" command, i am expecting to download the machine program data of 180 bytes as a continous string. As per the machine's manual, it suggests as a best practice to send an unreognized characters like comma (,) character to make sure the machine is initialized before sending the first command in the cycle. My serial communication code is as follows: public class SerialHelper { SerialPort commPort = null; string currentReceived = string.Empty; string receivedStr = string.Empty; private bool CommInitialized() { try { commPort = new SerialPort(); commPort.PortName = "COM1"; if (!commPort.IsOpen) commPort.Open(); commPort.BaudRate = 9600; commPort.Parity = System.IO.Ports.Parity.None; commPort.StopBits = StopBits. One; commPort.DataBits = 8; commPort.RtsEnable = true; commPort.DtrEnable = true; commPort.DataReceived += new SerialDataReceivedEventHandler(commPort_DataReceived); return true; } catch (Exception ex) { return false; } } void commPort_DataReceived(object sender, SerialDataReceivedEventArgs e) { SerialPort currentPort = (SerialPort)sender; currentReceived = currentPort.ReadExisting(); receivedStr += currentReceived; } internal int CommIO(string outString, int outLen, ref string inBuffer, int inLen) { receivedStr = string.Empty; inBuffer = string.Empty; if (CommInitialized()) { commPort.Write(outString); } System.Threading.Thread.Sleep(1500); int i = 0; while ((receivedStr.Length < inLen) && i < 10) { System.Threading.Thread.Sleep(500); i += 1; } if (!string.IsNullOrEmpty(receivedStr)) { inBuffer = receivedStr; } commPort.Close(); return inBuffer.Length; } } I am calling this code from a windows form as follows: len = SerialHelperObj.CommIO(",",1,ref inBuffer, 4) len = SerialHelperObj.CommIO(",",1,ref inBuffer, 4) If(inBuffer == "!?*O") { len = SerialHelperObj.CommIO("\D",2,ref inBuffer, 180) } A valid return value from the serial port looks like this: \D00000010000000000010 550 3250 0000256000 and so on ... I am getting some thing like this: \D00000010D,, 000 550 D,, and so on... I feel that my comm calls are getting interferred with the one when i send commands. But i am trying to make sure the result of the comma command then initiating the actual command. but the received thread is inserting the bytes from the previous communication cycle. Can any one please shed some light into this...? I lost quite some hair just trying to get this work. I am not sure where i am doing wrong

  • ASP.NET/C# - Deserialize XML, XSD.exe created multiple classes

    - by Barryman9000
I'm trying to deserialize some XML (returned from a web service) into an object that I created using XSD.exe. The XSD executable created a .CS file with a different partial class for each parent node in the XML. For Example, the beginning of the XML looks like this (why can't I post xml here? sorry, this is ugly): <disclaimer><notificationDescription>Additional charges will apply.</notificationDescription></disclaimer><quote><masterQuote></masterQuote></quote> And the Class generated by the XSD.exe has a partial class named disclaimer with a get; set; string for notificationDescription. And another partial class for quoteMasterQuote with the corresponding child nodes as public strings. How can I deserialize this XML file into multiple classes? I found this code, but it seems like it'll only work for one object. public static PricingResponse2 DeSerialize(string _xml) { PricingResponse2 _resp = new PricingResponse2(); StringReader _strReader = new StringReader(_xml); XmlSerializer _serializer = new XmlSerializer(_resp.GetType()); XmlReader _xmlReader = new XmlTextReader(_strReader); try { _resp = (PricingResponse2)_serializer.Deserialize(_xmlReader); return _resp; } catch (Exception ex) { string _error = ex.Message; throw; } finally { _xmlReader.Close(); _strReader.Close(); _strReader.Dispose(); } } This is the first time I've tried this, so I'm a little lost.

  • What is good practice in .NET system architecture design concerning multiple models and aggregates

    - by BuzzBubba
I'm designing a larger enterprise architecture and I'm in a doubt about how to separate the models and design those. There are several points I'd like suggestions for: - models to define - way to define models Currently my idea is to define: Core (domain) model Repositories to get data to that domain model from a database or other store Business logic model that would contain business logic, validation logic and more specific versions of forms of data retrieval methods View models prepared for specifically formated data output that would be parsed by views of different kind (web, silverlight, etc). For the first model I'm puzzled at what to use and how to define the mode. Should this model entities contain collections and in what form? IList, IEnumerable or IQueryable collections? - I'm thinking of immutable collections which IEnumerable is, but I'd like to avoid huge data collections and to offer my Business logic layer access with LINQ expressions so that query trees get executed at Data level and retrieve only really required data for situations like the one when I'm retrieving a very specific subset of elements amongst thousands or hundreds of thousands. What if I have an item with several thousands of bids? I can't just make an IEnumerable collection of those on the model and then retrieve an item list in some Repository method or even Business model method. Should it be IQueryable so that I actually pass my queries to Repository all the way from the Business logic model layer? Should I just avoid collections in my domain model? Should I void only some collections? Should I separate Domain model and BusinessLogic model or integrate those? Data would be dealt trough repositories which would use Domain model classes. Should repositories be used directly using only classes from domain model like data containers? This is an example of what I had in mind: So, my Domain objects would look like (e.g.) public class Item { public string ItemName { get; set; } public int Price { get; set; } public bool Available { get; set; } private IList<Bid> _bids; public IQueryable<Bid> Bids { get { return _bids.AsQueryable(); } private set { _bids = value; } } public AddNewBid(Bid newBid) { _bids.Add(new Bid {.... } } Where Bid would be defined as a normal class. Repositories would be defined as data retrieval factories and used to get data into another (Business logic) model which would again be used to get data to ViewModels which would then be rendered by different consumers. I would define IQueryable interfaces for all aggregating collections to get flexibility and minimize data retrieved from real data store. Or should I make Domain Model "anemic" with pure data store entities and all collections define for business logic model? One of the most important questions is, where to have IQueryable typed collections? - All the way from Repositories to Business model or not at all and expose only solid IList and IEnumerable from Repositories and deal with more specific queries inside Business model, but have more finer grained methods for data retrieval within Repositories. So, what do you think? Have any suggestions?

  • Convert Unicode char to closest (most similar) char in ASCII (.net)

    - by Andrey
Hi all! Do you have any idea how to covert different Unicode characters to their closest ASCII equivalents? Like Ä - A. A googled but didn't find any suitable solution. Trick Encoding.ASCII.GetBytes("Ä")[0] didn't work. (Result was ?). I found that there is class Encoder that has Fallback property that is exactly for cases when char can't be converted, but implementations (EncoderReplacementFallback) are stupid and convert to ?. Any ideas? Thanks, Andrey
