• UIDocumentInteractionController & ARC: [UIPopoverController dealloc] reached while popover is still visible

  This issue or similar issues have been discussed here before, but I didn't find any working solution for me. I am using the following code to display a UIDocumentInteractionController on an ARC-enabled iOS 7 project: - (void) exportDoc{ // [...] docController = [UIDocumentInteractionController interactionControllerWithURL:[NSURL fileURLWithPath:path]]; docController.delegate = self; [docController presentOpenInMenuFromBarButtonItem:mainMenuButton animated:YES]; } First I didn't want to create a property that holds the controller reference, but as many people said that there are not alternatives to it. It is defined as @property (strong) UIDocumentInteractionController* docController; exportDoc is run in the main thread using NSOperationQueue. • WCF service not working after program update

  I have recently added a WCF service reference to my program. When I perform a clean install of this program, everything seems to work as expected. But, when I install the program on a client which already has a previous version (without the new service reference) installed, I get a exception telling me the default endpoint for this particular service could not be found. It seems that the appname.exe.config is not being updated with the new endpoint settings. Is there any reason for this and how can I force the installer to overwrite the config file? I'm using the default Visual Studio 2008 installer project with RemovePreviousVersions set to True. • How to validate properties across Models without repeating the validation logic

  Hello All, I am building a ASP.NET Mvc app. I have a Data model say User public class user { public int userId {get; private set}; public string FirstName {get; set;} } The validation to be done is that the firstname cannot exceed 50 characters. I have another presentation model in which i have the property FirstName too. I do not want to repeat the validation logic in both the models. I want to have it in one place and that should be it. I can do it in a simpler way by adding a function which can be called while setting the property like private string firstName; public string FirstName { get { return firstName; } set { if (PropertyValidator.ValidName(value)) // assuming ValidName exists and it will throw an exception if the value is not valid { firstName = value; } } } But I am looking for something much simpler so that I do not need to add this for every property I need to have it validated. I looked at ValidationAttribute but then again I can validate this only from a controller (ModelState.IsValid). Since this model could be used by some other type of apps like console app, I could not choose that. But if there is a way to use the Mvc's ModelState.IsValid from outside of a controller, that would be awesome. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

• Differences in accessing resources between Simulator and Device?

  Is there some difference between the way that bundle resources can be accessed on the iPhone simulator versus a device (in my case, an iPad)? I am able to access a file on the former, but not the latter. Am I missing something obvious? edit: Of course, in the above @"quickHelp" is being passed in the contentsFileName var. edit2: if it makes any difference, in my build settings "Base SDK" is set to "iPhone Device 4.0", and "iPhone OS Deployment Target" is set to "iPhone OS 3.1.3". Any other settings that might have an influence?

• "end()" iterator for back inserters?

  For iterators such as those returned from std::back_inserter(), is there something that can be used as an "end" iterator? This seems a little nonsensical at first, but I have an API which is: template<typename InputIterator, typename OutputIterator> void foo( InputIterator input_begin, InputIterator input_end, OutputIterator output_begin, OutputIterator output_end ); foo performs some operation on the input sequence, generating an output sequence. (Who's length is known to foo but may or may not be equal to the input sequence's length.) The taking of the output_end parameter is the odd part: std::copy doesn't do this, for example, and assumes you're not going to pass it garbage. foo does it to provide range checking: if you pass a range too small, it throws an exception, in the name of defensive programming. (Instead of potentially overwriting random bits in memory.) Now, say I want to pass foo a back inserter, specifically one from a std::vector which has no limit outside of memory constraints. I still need a "end" iterator - in this case, something that will never compare equal. (Or, if I had a std::vector but with a restriction on length, perhaps it might sometimes compare equal?) How do I go about doing this? I do have the ability to change foo's API - is it better to not check the range, and instead provide an alternate means to get the required output range? (Which would be needed anyways for raw arrays, but not required for back inserters into a vector.) This would seem less robust, but I'm struggling to make the "robust" (above) work.

• Repeated host lookups failing in urllib2

  I have code which issues many HTTP GET requests using Python's urllib2, in several threads, writing the responses into files (one per thread). During execution, it looks like many of the host lookups fail (causing a name or service unknown error, see appended error log for an example). Is this due to a flaky DNS service? Is it bad practice to rely on DNS caching, if the host name isn't changing? I.e. should a single lookup's result be passed into the urlopen? • Accomodating Multiple DLL Versions

  I have an application that uses a Microsoft DLL (Microsoft.ComponentStudio.ComponentPlatformImplementation.dll) which is used for OS deployment and accessing the catalog files. Version 6.0.0.0 is specific to the Windows Server 2008 catalog files. The newer version 6.1.0.0 is specific to Windows Server 2008 R2 catalog files. Attempting to access a catalog file with the incorrect version results in an exception. My application (VB.NET using VS2005) needs to be able to access either version of these catalogs - I'd be happy with two executables (one for each catalog version) but obviously I don't want to maintain two sets of source code for each. Specifying both sets of DLLs in the project reference is not possible as the DLL names are identical. I'd rather not have to manually add and remove the DLL references each time I want to a build. As far as I know the interfaces etc are effectively identical between the two. I've read a few articles here and elsewhere about bindingRedirect, Assembly.Load etc but none seem to be bearing fruit. Any guidance on the best path to follow would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  Hello, im new in Python so im hoping to to get some help to figure out what is going wrong. Im trying to run a Pygames from within wxPython panel (made on Boa Constructor). To do that i followed the instructions on the http://wiki.wxpython.org/IntegratingPyGame but still it isn't working.   Using c# and .net 3.5 I'm trying to validate an xml document against a schema that has includes. The schemas and there includes are as below Schema1.xsd - include another.xsd another.xsd - include base.xsd When i try to add the Schema1.xsd to the XmlDocument i get the following error. Type 'YesNoType' is not declared or is not a simple type. I believe i'm getting this error because the base.xsd file is not being included when i load the Schema1.xsd schema. I'm trying to use the XmlSchemaSet class and I'm setting the XmlResolver uri to the location of the schemas. • Analyzing an IronPython Scope

  I'm trying to write C# code with an embedded IronPython script. Then want to analyze the contents of the script, i.e. list all variables, functions, class and their members/methods. There's an easy way to start, assuming I've got a scope defined and code executed in it already: dynamic variables=pyScope.GetVariables(); foreach (string v in variables) { dynamic dynamicV=pyScope.GetVariable(); /*seems to return everything. variables, functions, classes, instances of classes*/ } But how do I figure out what the type of a variable is? For the following python 'objects', dynamicV.GetType() will return different values: x=5 --system.Int32 y="asdf" --system.String def func():... --IronPython.Runtime.PythonFunction z=class() -- IronPython.Runtime.Types.OldInstance, how can I identify what the actual python class is? class NewClass -- throws an error, GetType() is unavailable. This is almost what I'm looking for. I could capture the exception thrown when unavailable and assume it's a class declaration, but that seems unclean. Is there a better approach? To discover the members/methods of a class it looks like I can use: ObjectOperations op = pyEngine.Operations; object instance = op.Call("className"); foreach (string j in op.GetMemberNames("className")) { object member=op.GetMember(instance, j); Console.WriteLine(member.GetType()); /*once again, GetType() provides some info about the type of the member, but returns null sometimes*/ } Also, how do I get the parameters to a method? • java.lang.ClassNotFoundException in Netbeans. 5 hours to fix

  Hi I've got to submit an interpreter assignment tonight and all of a sudden it stopped working! It was working yesterday but now when I try to create a class instance at runtime I get classnotfoundexception. My project has no libraries or dependencies, I've written everything myself. I've googled around and it seems to be an issue with classpath but I've had no luck fooling with the project properties on netbeans. • NHibernate / multiple sessions and nested objects

  We are using NHibernate in a rich client application. It is a pretty open application (the user searches for a dataset or creates a new one, changes the data and saves the data set. We leave the session open, because sometimes we have to lazy load some properties of the object (nested object structure). This means one big problem if we leave the session open, the db (MySQL) closes the connection and we are not able to find this out and it throws an exception (socket communication error) when accessing the database (we are thinking about testing the db connection before accessing the object - but this is not really optimal neither, the other option would be to set back the timeout of the db connection , but this just doesn't seem to well). So - is it possible to reconnect the session to a new database connection ? Another problem is it possible to get an object from one session and then re-attach it to another session ? (I often hear that session.lock should work for this - but this doesn't work so well in our application - so I ended up getting a "fresh" object from the session and copy the data over manually - which is a little bit cumbersome) Any ideas for this ?

  I'm trying to setup Glassfish embedded with a WAR project that implements a REST API and then some static Javascript content that calls it. I got the WAR to deploy and the REST API is available with a context root of "/Users". How can I use Glassfish to serve static content with a context root of "/". So for example, if the user requests http://myserver.com/Users/some-REST-call it routes to the WAR application and http://myserver.com/somefile.js serves a static file from some directory? • Why I can't get all UDP packets?

  My program use UdpClient to try to receive 27 responses from 27 hosts. The size of the response is 10KB. My broadband incoming bandwidth is 150KB/s. The 27 responses are sent from the hosts almost at the same time and for every 10 secs. However, I can only receive 8 - 17 responses each time. The number of responses that I can receive is quite dynamic but within the range. Can anyone tell me why? why can't I receive all? I understand UDP is not reliable. but I tried receiving 5 - 10 responses at the same time, it worked. I guess the network links are not so bad. The code is very simple. ON the 27 hosts, I just use UdpClient to send 10KB to my machine. On my machine, I have one UdpClient receive datagrams. • Read varbinary data in java

  I made a Java application which reads some files from SQL server. Those files are saved to a varbinary(MAX) field in SQL Server by a third party web service. My problem is that when I want to read those files with my Java application, those binary data show different content in the Java application. In fact, I read data byte by byte and I figured out that some bytes did not show the real values which were saved in the database. I found out what the problem is, but I couldn’t find a solution yet. I found out that in the web service every varbinary data is saved to database as byte data (in .Net each byte takes 0 to 255). But, when I want to read the binary data in Java, it takes different values and cause an exception with some values, because in Java a byte value takes -127 to 127. In my Java application I want to write those data to a file by OutputStream.write(byte[]) method. How can I solve this problem? I think that I have to find a way to convert c# byte[] to a Java byte[] (or binary data), but how can I do that?

• NHibernate + Cannot insert the value NULL into...

  I've got a MS-SQL database with a table created with this code CREATE TABLE [dbo].[portfoliomanager]( [idPortfolioManager] [int] NOT NULL PRIMARY KEY IDENTITY, [name] [varchar](45) NULL ) so that idPortfolioManager is my primary key and also auto-incrementing. Now on my Windows WPF application I'm using NHibernate to help with adding/updating/removing/etc. data from the database. Here is the class that should be connecting to the portfoliomanager table namespace PortfolioManager { [Class(Table="portfoliomanager",NameType=typeof(PortfolioManagerClass))] public class PortfolioManagerClass { [Id(Name = "idPortfolioManager")] [Generator(1, Class = "identity")] public virtual int idPortfolioManager { get; set; } [NHibernate.Mapping.Attributes.Property(Name = "name")] public virtual string name { get; set; } public PortfolioManagerClass() { } } } and some short code to try and insert something PortfolioManagerClass portfolio = new PortfolioManagerClass(); Portfolio.name = "Brad's Portfolios"; The problem is, when I try running this, I get this error: {System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Cannot insert the value NULL into column 'idPortfolioManager', table 'PortfolioManagementSystem.dbo.portfoliomanager'; column does not allow nulls. INSERT fails. The statement has been terminated... with an outer exception of {"could not insert: [PortfolioManager.PortfolioManagerClass][SQL: INSERT INTO portfoliomanager (name) VALUES (?); select SCOPE_IDENTITY()]"} I'm hoping this is the last error I'll have to solve with NHibernate just to get it to do something, it's been a long process. Just as a note, I've also tried setting Class="native" and unsaved-value="0" with the same error. Thanks! Edit: Ok removing the 1, from Generator actually allows the program to run (not sure why that was even in the samples I was looking at) but it actually doesn't get added to the database. I logged in to the server and ran the sql server profiler tool and I never see the connection coming through or the SQL its trying to run, but NHibernate isn't throwing an error anymore. Starting to think it would be easier to just write SQL statements myself :(

• Need help with a custom Spinner/ArrayAdapter setup

  I have a WeatherSpinner class which extends Spinner. The class shows region names which I originally did using an ArrayAdapter<String> but I now want to use ArrayAdapter<Locale>(Locale is an abstract 'empty' class of my own). I'm getting a ClassCastException when trying to populate my ArrayAdapter with the following... protected ArrayList<?> theList; protected ArrayAdapter<Locale> aa = null; ... protected void updateContents(ArrayList<?> list, int selectedItem) { theList = list; // Exception thrown on next line aa = new ArrayAdapter<Locale>(theContext, android.R.layout.simple_spinner_item, (Locale[]) theList.toArray()); ... } I'm passing a RegionList object into updateContents() as the 'list' parameter and RegionList extends ArrayList<Region>, and Region extends Locale. I've also overriden Region's toString() method to return a valid String. What am I not seeing here? Am I wrong about the way ArrayList<?>.toArray() works?

• Custom View Engine in ASP.NET MVC 2 does not work with Areas

  I used the code below so far with ASP.NET MVC v1 and v2 but when I added an Area today to my application, the controller for the area couldn't find any views in my Areas/Views/controllerView folder. It issued the very well known exception that it searched those 4 standard folders but it did not look under Areas.. How can I change the code so that it will work with Areas? Maybe an example of custom view engine under ASP.NET MVC 2 with Areas support? The information about it on the net is very scarse.. • Ftp throws WebException only in .NET 4.0

  I have following c# code. It runs just fine when compiled against .NET framework 3.5 or 2.0 (I did not test it against 3.0, but it will most likely work too). The problem is, that it fails when built against .NET framework 4.0.   (C#) I have 2 classes. 1 is called Employee. The other is my "main". I think this means that I am not calling the list properly. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.
