  • VerifyError When Running jUnit Test on Android 1.6

    Here's what I'm trying to run on Android 1.6: package com.healthlogger.test; public class AllTests extends TestSuite { public static Test suite() { return new TestSuiteBuilder(AllTests.class).includeAllPackagesUnderHere().build(); } } and: package com.healthlogger.test; public class RecordTest extends AndroidTestCase { /** * Ensures that the constructor will not take a null data tag. */ @Test(expected=AssertionFailedError.class) public void testNullDataTagInConstructor() { Record r = new Record(null, Calendar.getInstance(), "Data"); fail("Failed to catch null data tag."); } } The main project is HealthLogger. These are run from a separate test project (HealthLoggerTest). HealthLogger and jUnit4 are in HealthLoggerTest's build path. jUnit4 is also in HealthLogger's build path. The class "Record" is located in com.healthlogger. Commenting out the "@Test..." and "Record r..." lines allows this test to run. When they are uncommented, I get a VerifyError exception. I am severely blocked by this; why is it happening?     Hello, everyone! I know that there are many examples of JavaCC parsers here, but they all do nothing. They just accept a string, or produce parsing errors. What I need is a few examples of real parsers, which actually do something during parsing. (Such as building a DOM tree during parsing an XML string). Please help! ;)

  • Migrating Forms to Java or ADF, the truth and no FUD

    The question about migrating Forms to Java (or ADF or APEX) comes up time and time again.  I wanted to pull some core information together in a single blog post to address this question. The first question I always ask is "WHY" - Forms may still be a viable option for you so "if it ain't broke don't fix it".  Bottom line is whatever anyone tells you, its going to be a considerable effort and cost to migrate from Forms to something else so the business is going to want to know WHY you spend all those hard earned dollars switching from something that might have been serving you quite adequately. Second point, if you are going to switch, I would encourage you NOT to look at building a Forms clone.  So many times I see people trying to build an ADF application and EXACTLY mimic the Forms model - ADF is NOT a Forms clone.  You should be building to the sweet spot of your target technology, not your 20 year old client/server technology.  This is also the chance for the business to embrace change, so maybe look at new processes, channels and technology options that weren't available when you first developed your Forms applications.   • Security Alert for CVE-2010-0886 and CVE-2010-0887 Released

Oracle just released a Security Alert to announce the availability of fixes for two vulnerabilities (CVE-2010-0886 and CVE-2010-0887) affecting Oracle Java SE and Oracle Java For Business. Both vulnerabilities only affect Java when running in a 32-bit web browser. These vulnerabilities are not present in Java running on servers or standalone Java desktop applications and do not impact any Oracle server based software. The first vulnerability (CVE-2010-0886) affects the Java Deployment Toolkit (version 6 update 10 through 19) on Windows only. The second vulnerability (CVE-2010-0887) affects the Java Plug-in (version 6 update 18 and 19) on Windows, Solaris and Linux. Both vulnerabilities may allow an attacker to run commands on the user's system with the privileges of the user, whose system may have become compromised by visiting a malicious web site. Oracle rated the severity of both vulnerabilities with a CVSS Base Score of 10.0 because many Windows users grant themselves administrative privileges. However, on other platforms, or for Windows users with limited privileges, the CVSS Base Score is only 7.5, because a successful exploitation of these vulnerabilities cannot result in a full compromise of the affected system. Users can quickly determine if they are running vulnerable versions of Java by pointing their browser to http://www.java.com/en/download/help/testvm.xml. Java SE users can visit http://www.java.com and download the most recent release of Java SE to address these vulnerabilities.   • Edit Contact code worked in 1.6 but doesn't work on Droid 2.1?

    Hi All, I had some fairly simple code in my app to invoke Edit Contact activity on a known good contact index that worked in Android 1.6 but is broken for me now in Android 2.1 on the Droid.   • Reasonable technological solutions to create CRM using .NET eventually Java

    My background(If it's too long, just skip it please ; ) ): I am Java programmer(because of demand): mostly teacher for other students, worked on few thesis for others, but during my journey I discovered that .NET and Microsoft's tools are on at least two levels higher than Java and its tools so I want to learn more about them. I programmed little bit on Windows Phone(NFC Tags, TCP Clients, guitar tuner using internal microphone, simple RSS), used WPF, integrated WPF with Windows Forms, Apple Bonjour(.NET), I have expierience with IP cameras and with unusal problems, I learn Android, but I don't like it at all. Problem: I was asked by my friend to create CRM for small new company. There will maximum 20 workers in the company working at computers in few cities in the country(Poland). They just want to store contracts with the clients and client's data. I am not sure what exacly they do but probably sell apartments so there will be at most few thousands of contracts to store in far future. Now I am totally new to CRM but I want to learn. I have few questions: Should the data be stored on a server in the company's building running 24/7 or cloud. If cloud which one? Should I use ASPX or WPF. I read one topic about it but as far as I know aspx sites can be viewed from every device with internet browser: tablets, phones(Android, WP, iOS) and computers at the same time- so the job is done once and for all(Am I right?), I don't know nothing about aspx. Can WPF be also used in manner that does not need to port it for other platforms?

    After a server bounce happens, and after around 40-45 days time period, we receive continuous “Committed Virtual Memory” alerts which indicates the usage of swap space in the magnitude of 4GB This also causes the application to perform very slowly and experience a number of stalled transactions. Server Setup: 4 Tomcat Servers (version 7.0.22) that are load balanced (not clustered) by 2 Apache Servers. And the Apache servers themselves supply static content and routing to these 4 tomcat servers. If the ThreadLocal is not strongly referenced, it will be garbage-collected, even though various threads have values stored via that ThreadLocal. Additionally, ThreadLocal values are actually stored in the Thread; if a thread dies, all of the values associated with that thread through a ThreadLocal are collected. If you have a ThreadLocal as a final class member, that's a strong reference, and it cannot be collected until the class is unloaded. But this is how any class member works, and isn't considered a memory leak. The cited problem only comes into play when the value stored in a ThreadLocal strongly references that ThreadLocal—sort of a circular reference. In this case, the value (a SimpleDateFormat), has no backwards reference to the ThreadLocal. There's no memory leak in this code. Can anyone please let me know what could be the cause of this and what to be monitored?

  • Image URL not changing in Update panel

    Ok this is probably really simple but I have been staring at it for too long now. I have an AJAX AsyncFileUpload control that when a file is selected I want the Image next to it to change. But I am not in the mood to study more Java, so I would like to know if this one is worth my time ( that would mean, less configuration and action mapping and so on) Is it better then Struts 2(WebWorks) ??? because those are way better then Struts 1 but still not a RoR. Spring MVC ? I would like a Hands On Opnion, not a specs compare. Thanks !

  • I can't send gps values via the eclipse emulator control panel

    I try to send gps longitude and latitude to the android emulator with eclipse, but the values seem to never be set. Instead the onStatusChanged method of my listener is called. Edit I send those values through the emulator controls in the ddms view in eclipse. If I send data via telnet I get the correct data shown and the onLocationChanged method of my listener is changed.

    I need to set ANT_OPTS=-Xms1024m -Xmx6144m -XX:PermSize=1024m -XX:MaxPermSize=1024m JAVA_OPTS=-Xms1024m -Xmx6144m -XX:PermSize=1024m -XX:MaxPermSize=1024m I have a system with 8gb(recently upgraded from 4 gb) But once i set the ant opts to above said value I am not able to run any of my ant targets and I get the following error [ERROR] Argument error: -Xmx6144m [ERROR] Specified maximum heap size (6144 MB) is larger than the address space on this platform (4 GB). [WARN ] -XX:PermSize=1024m is not a valid VM option. Ignoring [WARN ] -XX:MaxPermSize=1024m is not a valid VM option. Ignoring Could not create the Java virtual machine. This indicates the Java that I have on my system java version "1.6.0_20" Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_20-b02) Oracle JRockit(R) (build R28.1.0-123-138454-1.6.0_20-20101014-1351-windows-x86_64, compiled mode) and I am running a Windows 7 on Intel Core 2 duo 3Ghz processor and 8gb RAM Any pointers in solving this issue would be of great help. PS: I did google for the error and it was one of my 1st such occurence where I didnot get any links pointing to the specific solution. Maybe no one has encountered such a scenario

    Hi, I'm a web designer and I've designed many web sites. Most of the web sites are coded with asp.net. I want to control this web sites from my database and even if ftp account and server is changed I want to be able to close, deactivate site. Which method do you suggest. Simple ajax control on page loads or service control from my web site on application_start. Also I mostly pre-compile web sites. Any suggestions are welcome.

  • web applications tend to have a admin panel?

    i wonder if large web applications like twitter and facebook have admin panels to handle CRUD for users, posts, images, themes and so on just like in CMS like drupal? so programmers have to code the front for the regular users AND back for the administrators? if i develop an web application is it recommended that i also code the admin part? or is it unnecessary since i can handle all directly in mysql and by editing php scripts directly? share your thoughts! thanks
