• Weird screeching sounds coming from computer

  My computer makes a high pitched whine noise that initially was coming from my SSD, but now I recently installed more ram into my laptop and it makes a new sounds. I don't want my ram or SSD to die on me. Are there any tests to test both of these? Again, these are really high pitched whine(y) sounds that you wouldn't hear normally, but when I'm home alone and it's silent, the noise sounds as loud as can be.

  Hey, a few days ago my computer wouldnt boot..said something along the lines of "Please insert correct boot media and press any key" Its oldish so I tried what I could and just went out to buy new hard drive. Yesterday, installed it and it worked fine..put Windows XP onto in sp3 etc, turned on today and the same thing has happened ! Tried changing cables, remove graphics card etc, restoring bios to default but nothing works. Motherboard : Asus A8R32-MVP Deluxe Ram : 2GB HD : 320gb Hitachi Any ideas? Thanks :)

• Transferring slides from one computer to another and the images are lost

  I used OpenOffice Impress to make some slides for a presentation and when I try to transfer the slides to another computer the images are lost, with text displayed in their place describing the location that the images could be found. This happens when I save in odp and ppt and also when I try to upload the slides to Google Docs. Any idea what is wrong? While making the slides I just dragged and dropped the images into the presentation.

  I'm using Windows 7 Enterprise. When I click on a favorite folder (left hand pane) in a My Computer window, it opens into a new window even though I have the folder options set to "open each folder in the same window". Is there anyway to change this?

  After some work on my computer, perhaps some updates installs, it didn't boot anymore. BSOD on windows logo loading. After some research I've found out that if I replace the SYSTEM hive of the register with the last backup it boots ok, but of course goes back to an old stage of machine setup. So my question is: where does register stores hardware and/or updates/software that loads in the machine boot, so that I can check which program is producing that BSOD and disable it? System is Win 7 64 bits SP1

I am looking for tools to isolate what processes or issues are causing the crash, and also good techniques in troubleshoot the actual dump itself. • Win Server 2008 Hanging on "Applying Computer Settings"

  Applied ~8 updates this morning, and on reboot the server just sits on "Applying Computer Settings". I've let it sit for a max of almost 40m with no response. I hard-booted (/duck) and can get into safe-mode. From there it applies it's updates and is ok. But still on normal boot gets stuck in "applying". I've tried uninstalling the updates from safe-mode with the same reaction. Any insights?

  My computer stopped working the other day, I came down and it was kind of chriping away then when I restarted it it only did the same thing, I unplugged everything not needed and it did nothing at all, I thought maybe powersupply but when I took cover off the green light on MB was on and powersuppy is making little buzz sound, but nothing happens when I turn com on other than the green light on MB flickers a bit, I checked memory in other com and it works fine, love to be able to fix with as litttle cost as possible, hope someone here can help...   One of the desktop computers in my office is unable to access some particular websites. We've tried from Chrome, IE, Firefox, but no luck. eg: http://spsims.wto.org/ -> click on "Regular notifications" On the affected computer, every browser times out after the click. Whereas it should redirect the user to http://spsims.wto.org/web/pages/search/notification/regular/Search.aspx How can I diagnose this further? This is a Windows XP machine.

• iTunes video black screen until select computer output

  I don't remember this happening before, but now whenever I play any video in iTunes (podcast video, movie, TV show, iTunes extras stuff but the menus work) it just shows a black screen with the sound playing. If I stop it, select "Computer" in the little output control on the iTunes video control panel that pops up, then play again, it works fine. What the heck? Tried rebooting, updating, with and without external monitor. OSX 10.6.6
