Hi,
My Windows/C++ application allocates ~1Gb of data in memory with the new operator and processes this data. The data is deleted after processing.
I noticed that if I run the processing again without exiting the application, the second call to "new" operator to allocate ~1gb of data fails.
I would expect Windows to deliver back the memory again. Could this be managed in a better way with some other win32 calls etc. ?
Thanks,
Paul
I run Django on Windows Server 2k3 under Nginx using FastCGI.
Nginx is is running as Windows service and is easy to manage and autostart.
Nginx is running using WINSW tool.
I want to make the same for Django app and need to find a way to do it.
I've been playing around with C# console applications for about a year and I want to move on to creating GUI applications. I have never done any GUI development besides basic Java applications, but I want to continue using C#. Should I start learning Windows Forms or jump straight to WPF? Is there a huge difference? Does WPF build on top of Windows Forms or are they totally different?
Hi all,
Is it possible to create a certificate template that uses SHA-2 (sha256, sha224, sha384, sha512), from a Windows server 2003 CA?
I know how to do it in Windows server 2008 based CA, with the new version (version 3) - it is possible to specify the hash algorithm (Under the "Cryptography" tab of the template properties). But is it possible in 2003 based CA?
Thanks.
Quick question of does Windows CE support hash tables? I have a program that I'm modifying and adding to a device that uses Windows CE and I was wondering if CE supported hash tables since it is used in the original software.
I would like to mimic the Run command in Windows in my program. In other words, I would like to give the user the ability to "run" an arbitrary piece of text exactly as would happen if they typed it into the run box.
While System.Diagnostics.Process.Start() gets me close, I can't seem to get certain things like environment variables such as %AppData% working. I just keep getting the message "Windows cannot find '%AppData%'..."
I found this code for disabling the task manager in Windows XP. It works :)
But does it work in Windows7, too? The registry path is the same, I've checked this. But maybe there are some restrictions!?
Thanks in advance!
Is there a way to make a notification sort of thing appear on a website indicating that there are windows updates waiting to be installed. So to indicate the users that the server will go under maintenance at the time when windows is scheduled updates.
Is there an easy way to integrate with VirtualBox such that I could develop under the host, Windows, and deploy and run scripts via a mounted folder in a guest linux system?
I'm looking to develop for Linux under Windows, kind of.
I need to script a way to install IPV4 on windows xp the reason is i have many pc with a corrupt win sock registry so the fix Microsoft has is to delete the reg keys hklm/system/currentcontolset/services/winsock and winsock2 and then to run a netsch ip reset which creates the winsock2 part of the registry then the part i need to script is go to network adapter properties goto tcpip and install a new protocol and select tcp/ip and install it which uses the file c:\windows\inf\nettcpip.inf and then this creates the winsock part is there a way to script this part?? i have looked and cant find anything
Our code relies on checking the Context.User.Identity value in the Global.asax Application_AuthenticateRequest(...) method to retrieve some information about the logged in user. This works fine in classic mode but when I flip IIS to use the Integrated Pipeline "Context.User" comes back as null, but only intermittently. Any ideas why?
I have < authentication mode="Windows" and only Windows Auth enabled in the Virtual Directory.
The Windows Indexing Service pauses itself when it detects the "user is active." Is there a registry entry or something to make it continue indexing regardless of user activity?
Clarification: in Windows XP
Are there any software drivers for windows7 (64-bit) that can report the data transferred between some application software and a usb device?
I have tried snoopy (http://sourceforge.net/projects/usbsnoop/) but I can't get it working. Possibly I would need to go down the route of installing an earlier version of windows.
Any other suggestions?

Hi,

Are there any tools that can be used to connect to windows 2008 servers, and get a comparison of the installed patches/updates on the servers, showing what is installed on one and not on the other?
This is to help isolate an issue we are seeing on a specific windows server, in a load balanced setup. There is a certain performance/locking issue, which is mitigated whenever one of the servers is disabled.
Please share, if you have any suggestions.
Thanks in advance!
What are your must have Windows utilities to help you with development? For me it's Unlocker
This is about general Windows utilities, nothing specific to any language.
In c#, on a windows7 machine, how can I programmatically access every file on the file system as though I was a "Master Administrator".
The main priority here, is that after my c# program is installed, that it won't run into any file/folder access permission problems. My program runs as a windows service, and it must allow a user to backup any files on the file system.
How do you detect Windows logon event?
And how do you initiate a user logon from a Windows service?
I'm trying to write a piece of code that will detect logon events and log another one automatically.
I've heard that Windows Mobile will broadcast a WM_CLOSE message to all inactive (?) windows if system memory falls below a certain threshold. I think I'm seeing this occur with my app too. But I cannot find any documentation to confirm this. Anyone know about this? Or know where I can find doc on it?
Thanks for any help.
I got a Windows service installed on my development machine (that I made) and I want to interact with it. For a reason I don't know, each time I start the client, a WCF Service Host pop and said that the address is already in use ... which is true ... but how can I do to NOT start that Windows ?
Is it because my two projects (server and client) are in the same solution ?
Hi,
I'm writing an application for windows mobile 6 and above that requires a local database.
I was wondering if anyone has any experience with database hosting on windows mobile and which database management system would be most suitable for development.
Thanks in advance,

Does windows have any decent sampling (eg. non-instrumenting) profilers available? Preferably something akin to Shark on MacOS, although i am willing to accept that i am going to have to pay for such a profiler on windows.
I've tried the profiler in VS Team Suite and was not overly impressed, and was wondering if there were any other good ones.
[Edit: Erk, i forgot to say this is for C/C++, rather than .NET -- sorry for any confusion]
