• jQuery unbinding click event when maximum number of children are displayed

  I have a personal details form that alows you to enter a certain number of dependants which is determined by the JSP application. The first dependant is visible and the user has the option to add dependants up to the maximum number. All other dependants are hidden by default and are displayed when a user clicks the 'Add another dependant button'. When the maximum number of dependants has been reached the button is greyed out and a message is generated via jQuery and displayed to tell the user exactly this. The issue i am having is when the maximum number of dependants has been reached the message is displayed but then the user can click the button to add more dependants and the message keeps on generating. I thought unbinding the click event would sort this but it seems to still be able to generate a second message. • Doing CRUD on XML using id attributes in C# ASP.NET

  I'm a LAMP guy and ended up working this small news module for an asp.net site, which I am having some difficulty with. I basically am adding and deleting elements via AJAX based on the id. Before, I had it working based on the the index of a set of elements, but would have issues deleting, since the index would change in the xml file and not on the page (since I am using ajax). And when adding an entry, I need to set the id to the last elements id + 1. Yes, I know SQL would be 100 times easier, but I don't have access so... help?

• SIFR 3.0 - Font Size

  I have been working with SIFR 3.0 for some time now and the font-size never seems to work correctly. I understand the most basic concepts behind SIFR. SIFR runs when you load the page. It does some calculations one the size of the HTML rendered font and then replaces it with a flash movie that is roughly equal to that size. Because of this, you want to style your HTML font to match the size of your SIFR font as close as possible. My problem always comes up when trying to style these two font sizes to match. Let's say I want to use a SIFR font of Helvetica Neue Lt at about 32px. The HTML equivalent is something like Arial Narrow at about 36px with some negative letter spacing. So here is what I do. In sifr.css I'll write: @media screen { .sIFR-active h1 { visibility: hidden; z-index: 0 !important; font-size: 36px; } } Great, that gets the default HTML font the size I need. Now I need to update the flash SIFR font size. So I go into sifr-config.js and write something like this: sIFR.replace(HelveticaNeueThinCond, { selector: 'h1', css: '.sIFR-root { color: #762123; font-size: 32px; line-height: 1em; }', transparent: true }); So right now everything is working great. That is until my h1 text wraps more than one line. For some reason, when the text wraps it only shows the first line. It seems calculates the height wrong. This is very weird because I ran some tests. I took "visibility: hidden" off of "sIFR-active h1" to make sure that the HTML rendered text was the right size. It is, it takes up two lines. However, when the Flash replaces this text it gives it a min-height of one line of text. Odd. The only way I could find to fix this wrapping problem was to remove "font-size: 32px;" from "sIFR.replace(HelveticaNeueThinCond" in sifr-config. The problem I run into then is that it inherits the font-size set in sifr.css. Now the problem is that my HTML text is bigger then the SIFR text. So occasional my HTML text will wrap to a new line before my SIFR text leaving a big white space. So, how do I set two different font-size (one for my HTML text and one for my SIFR) without losing the wrapping. The only time I have been able to use the successfully is when I have a SIFR font that is so similar to a web safe font that they can share the same font-size attribute. Thanks

  I don't know if the title explain this situation well. Below is a code i wrote to create div elements when the button is pressed. Then By clicking on any of the created divs, we can change the div background by choosing a color from the drop down box. However if i click on another div and tried to change the color by selecting another color from the drop down, the previously clicked divs also gets affected by the new color. Why is this happening. I only want the selected div to change color, without affecting the previously clicked divs. I read allot of threads on this site, some of which talks about unbinding clicks, but I'm unable to solve the problem. • jquery hover not working in safari and chrome

  I'm developing a site and I am implementing a jquery hover effect on some list items. It works perfectly in all browser except safari and chrome (mac and pc). For some reason the hover effect doesnt work on those to browsers. • Squid proxy not serving modified html content

  I'm trying to use squid to modify the page content of web page requests. I followed the upside-down-ternet tutorial which showed instructions for how to flip images on pages. I need to change the actual html of the page. I've been trying to do the same thing as in the tutorial, but instead of editing the image I'm trying to edit the html page. Below is a php script I'm using to try to do it. All jpg images get flipped, but the content on the page does not get edited. • Deploying an EAR to JBOSS times out (org.rhq.core.pc.inventory.TimeoutException:)

  Hi, I am trying to deploy an ear file to JBOSS AS (defalut server). The application is the mavenised version of examples of SeamInAction book. When I copy the file to $JBOSS_HOME/server/default/deploy, I don't get any exception but the application doesn't respond, after some time trying to access the application from the browser gives following in the log... While deploying with admin-console (http://localhost:8080/admin-console) I get following error messgae: PS: After this Jboss gets into unusable state. I cannot even access admin-console. I just have to kill it. ErrorMessage in admin-console: Failed to create Resource Open18.ear - cause: org.rhq.core.pc.inventory.TimeoutException: Call to [org.rhq.plugins.jbossas5.ApplicationServerComponent.createResource()] with args [[CreateResourceReport: ResourceType=[ResourceType[id=0, category=Service, name=Enterprise Application (EAR), plugin=JBossAS5]], ResourceKey=[null]]] timed out. Requirements: -The application is a windows form, it is to use the web browser control, to load a web page. -Textfield values are define by within the application. -When textfield on the webpage matches the applications predefined elements, the predefine fixed value is set and can not be changed by the end user. • Creating a Blog ruby on Rails - Problem Deleting Comments

  As I always type I am new to rails and programming in general so go easy. Thanks in advance. I have successfully followed the initial tutorial from Ryan Bates on how to build a weblog in 15 minutes. If you don't know this tutorial takes you through creating posts and allowing for comments on those post. It even introduces AJAX through the creating and displaying comments on the posts show.html.erb page. All works great. Here's the hiccup, when Ryan takes you though this tutorial he clears out the comments_controller and only shows the code for creating comments. I am trying to add back the ability to edit and destroy comments. Can't see to get it to work, keeps deleting the actual post not the comment (log shows that I keep sending DELETE request to PostsController).   I'm making html widget for websites. Let's say, it will display current stock indexes. In short, arbitrary website owner takes code snippet from me and includes it on his webpage http://website.com/index.html. When arbitrary user opens http://website.com/index.html, my code sends request to my server (provider.com), which performs necessary operations and returns information to user's browser. When response has arrived, user will see relevant stock value on http://website.com/index.html. In index.html service could be called like this <script type="text/javascript" src="provider.com/service.js"> </script> <div id="target_area"></div> <script type="text/javascript"> service.show("target_area", options); </script> Now, the problem is in the same origin policy: I can't just send ajax request from website.com to provided.com and return html to embed in client's webpage. I see several solutions, which I list below, but none quite satisfy me. I wonder, if you could suggest something, especially if you had some relevant experience. 1) iframe, plain and simple. Disadvantage: must have fixed dimensions + stupid scroll bars appearing in some browsers. Can be fixed with javascript, but all this browser-specific tinkering doesn't sound good to me. 2) JSONP. Problem: can't return whole chunk of html, must return only data. Then, on browser side, I'll have to use javascript to embed data into html snippet placed statically in index.html. Doesn't sound nice, because data format is not very simple and may even change later. 3) Use hidden iframe to do ajax requests. A bit tricky, but sounds like a way to go. Well, that's my thoughts on the subject. Are there any better ways? BTW, I tried to check some existing widgets too, but didn't find much useful information. All domain names used in this text are fictional and any resemblance is purely coincidental :)

  Using JS to set the background color of a TD is fine. But, setting the border color is problematic in FF 3.0.18 although IE 6 doesn't experience this. FF is problematic in that it requires the TD element to have an attribute style initialized to border-style: solid. Without that, setting border color of a TD won't work. Is this known bug? How do I set the border color without having to set style attribute as well as the initialization value? I know another trick of setting the class attribute instead of setting the border color directly. Is this an indication that somehow TD hates having its border color set dynamically? Is this known as well? • JavaScript/Dojo Module Pattern - how to debug?

  I'm working with Dojo and using the "Module Pattern" as described in Mastering Dojo. So far as I can see this pattern is a general, and widely used, JavaScript pattern. My question is: How do we debug our modules? So far I've not been able to persuade Firebug to show me the source of my module. Firebug seems to show only the dojo eval statement used to execute the factory method. Hence I'm not able to step through my module source. I've tried putting "debugger" statements in my module code, and Firebug seems to halt correctly, but does not show the source. Contrived example code below.   The type command, in Linux, returns the location, on the filesystem, of the given file, if it is in the current folder or the $PATH. This functionality is also available through Windows with the Git Bash command line program. The command also returns a file's location given the file without its extension (.exe, .vbs, etc.) However, I have run into what seems like a strange corner case where the file exists on the $PATH but doesn't get returned using the command. I am thinking of buying a new computer soon, so I looked up the method of transferring the license key from one computer to another, in preparation for actually doing this. The method I found mentioned the files slmgr.vbs and slui.exe, both of which reside in the C:/Windows\System32 folder, which is in my $PATH, as usual for a Windows computer. However, these two files aren't showing up when I use the type command. Also, neither gets executed when I call the files as commands without their extensions in Git Bash, and only slmgr.vbs gets executed when I call them with the extensions. Finally, slmgr.vbs is shown when listing the folder's contents in Git Bash, as well, but slui.exe isn't. I thought this might have to do with permissions, and, indeed, both files have very restrictive permissions, as you can see in the pictures below, but they both have the same permissions, which wouldn't explain why one gets executed and the other doesn't when called directly, nor why one file is listed on command line but the other isn't. • Using will_paginate with AJAX live search with jQuery in Rails

  I am using will_paginate to successfully page through records. I am also using AJAX live search via jQuery to update my results div. No problem so far. The issue I have is when trying to paginate through those live search results. I simply get "Page is loading..." with no div update.   Hi I would like my application to load a webpage and set default the form textfield value a predefine value. Requirements: -The application is a windows form, it is to use the web browser control, to load a web page. -Textfield values are define by within the application. -When textfield on the webpage matches the applications predefined elements, the predefine fixed value is set and can not be changed by the end user. • Opera Mobile, offline web app development, and memory

  I'm developing a data collection app for use on a HP iPAQ 211. I'm doing it as an offline web app (go with what you know) using Opera Mobile 9.7 and Google Gears. Being it is an offline app, it is very dependent on Javascript for much of its behavior. I'm using the LocalServer, Database, and Geolocation components of Gears, as well as the JQuery core and a couple of plugins for form validation and other usability tweaks (no jQuery UI). I've tried to be conservative with my programming style and free up or close resources whenever possible, but Opera just slowly dies after about 10-20 minutes of use. The Javascript engine stops responding, pages only half-load, and eventually stop loading completely. I'm guessing it's a resource issue. Quitting and relaunching the browser solves the problem, but only temporarily. The iPAQ ships with 128 MB of RAM, about 85-87 MB of which is available immediately after a reset. With only Opera running, there still remains about 50 MB that is left unused. My questions are thus: Is it possible to get Opera to address this unused RAM? Are there configuration settings in Opera or in the Windows Registry itself that will help improve performance? I know where to tweak, but the descriptions of the opera:config variables that I've found are less than helpful. Is is laughable to ask about memory management and jQuery in the same sentence? If not, does anyone have any suggestions? Finally, are my plans too ambitious, given the platform I have to work with? I know that Gears and Windows Mobile 6 are on their way out, but they (theoretically) suffice for what I need to do. I could ditch them in favor of an iPhone/iPod Touch, Mobile Safari, and HTML5 but I'd like to try to make this work first. I didn't think that Opera was a dog when it comes to JS performance, but perhaps it's worse than I thought. That this motley collection of technologies works at all is a minor miracle, but it needs to be faster and more stable. I appreciate any suggestions.
