  I have created a view in interface builder that contains another view (content area) and a button bar at the bottom. The hierarchy is as: ->View --->mapContainer UIView ----->map MKMapView ----->OverlayView UIView --->ToolBar UIToolBar I would like the mapContainer to resize to full window when the ToolBar is hidden. I would like the map and the OverlayView to resize to the mapContainer size I have attempted the following code, but it has no effect. • How to handle exceptions from an image-generating Servlet?

  I have a simple (Servlet, JSP, and JSTL) web app whose main functionality is displaying images retrieved from a back-end server. The controller servlet forwards the user to a JSP that in turn uses another Servlet to display the resulting image on that same JSP. Further down, the JSP has a line similar to: <a href="<c:out value='${imageURL}'/>"><img src="<c:out value='${imageURL}'/>" alt="image view" border="1"></a> which invokes a GET request on the image-generating servlet causing it to generate the image. My question is: how do I handle Exceptions thrown by this image-generating servlet? I already have an error page defined (in web.xml) to handle ServletException within my web app but this doesn't work for this image-generating Servlet, and results in the following errors showing up in my Tomcat server logs: SEVERE: Exception Processing ErrorPage[exceptionType=javax.servlet.ServletException, location=/WEB-INF/ExceptionPage.jsp] java.lang.IllegalStateException: Cannot reset buffer after response has been committed What's my recourse in this situation? I'd like to be able to handle Exceptions thrown from this image-generating Servlet, and display some error on the main UI or forward the user to another error page.

• Export to csv, string w/ comma in it, splits it up

  This code exports data into a csv file, which is opened within Excel. When a string has a comma within it, it messes up the order of the data. I need help modifying my code below to resolve any data that contains a comma within it, to not to create a new column. I am assuming it will pass each string within double quotes, so any comma within those quotes, then it will make an exception. • Receiving UDP on different Android phones gives different results

  I am willing to create a server and client program on my android mobile devices. The devices communicate with each other on the same wifi network, therefore, some simple scanning mechanism must be implemented - The client phones search for a server phone through some kind of broadcast. What I did: My protocol - the client phone broadcasts a message port p on the wifi, the server listens on port p. when the server gets the broadcast message it sends a message back, therefore discovering itself to the client. My code - I have opened a broadcast socket on my app, it sends a broadcast message. Meanwhile there is a python script on my PC that listens and replies - I use python so that my testing will be easier - Wireshark on the PC and I can see everything. What happens: When I use one of my Galaxy S phones - it works and I get a response. When I use the other Galaxy S phone - it doesn't work. Now this is what I know: The phone that works actually has Nexus ROM on it Ver. 4.1.1 The phone that doesn't work has 2.3.3 regular galaxy ROM The python code says it receives both of the broadcasts sent from both phones, and replies to both of them without raising any exception. So far I was thought the problem may be 1. the older version'd phone. 2. the windows firewall 3. the router firewall So I have opened Wireshark, and Indeed I saw that both phones are sending their broadcasts - it was logged on Wireshark. But the python script only responded to the first one. So this is why 1 & 3 are irrelevant - if the router firewall was blocking my UDP I would have still seen the python server response, same with the older versioned phone. To get rid of 2 i just disabled the windows firewall - still same problem. Does anyone has a clue to why this effect might happen? Thanks!

• Display last image taken in Media.Images

  Hi I'm inserting an image from the camera (Taking a picture) into the MediaStore.Images.Media datastore. Does anyone know how I can go about displaying the last picture taken? I used Uri image = ContentUris.withAppendedId(externalContentUri, 45); to display an image from the datastore but obviously 45 is not the correct image. I try to pass the information from the previous activity (Camera) to the display activity but I'm assuming due to the photo call back being its own thread the value never gets set. • Only first word of two strings gets added to db

  When trying to add words to a database via php, only the first word of both strings gets added.   The example below may not be problematic as is, but it should be enough to illustrate a point. Imagine that there is a lot more work than trimming going on. public string Thingy { set { // I guess we can throw a null reference exception here on null. value = value.Trim(); // Well, imagine that there is so much processing to do this.thingy = value; // That this.thingy = value.Trim() would not fit on one line ... So, if the assignment has to take two lines, then I either have to abusereuse the parameter, or create a temporary variable. I am not a big fan of temporary variables. On the other hand, I am not a fan of convoluted code. I did not include an example where a function is involved, but I am sure you can imagine it. One concern I have is if a function accepted a string and the parameter was "abused", and then someone changed the signature to ref in both places - this ought to mess things up, but ... who would knowingly make such a change if it already worked without a ref? Seems like it is their responsibility in this case. If I mess with the value of value, am I doing something non-trivial under the hood? If you think that both approaches are acceptable, then which do you prefer and why? Thanks.

  I am having trouble understanding how to initialize a List of objects and use it with methods inside of a class. I understand the mechanics of the List, but not how to initialize it inside a method and use it later. For example, I want to have a class that creates the List when it is constructed. Then, I want to use a method of that class to add elements to the list. The elements in the list are objects defined by the SolidWorks API. However, it seems that I lack some understanding as to why this is necessary. Shouldn't it be possible to "initialize" a List that is a property of your object with a constructor? Why would you need to create the list, then assign the pointer of that new List to your property?

• EF 4 Query - Issue with Multiple Parameters

  Hello, A trick to avoiding filtering by nullable parameters in SQL was something like the following: select * from customers where (@CustomerName is null or CustomerName = @CustomerName) This worked well for me in LINQ to SQL: string customerName = "XYZ"; var results = (from c in ctx.Customers where (customerName == null || (customerName != null && c.CustomerName == customerName)) select c); But that above query, when in ADO.NET EF, doesn't work for me; it should filter by customer name because it exists, but it doesn't. Instead, it's querying all the customer records. Now, this is a simplified example, because I have many fields that I'm utilizing this kind of logic with. But it never actually filters, queries all the records, and causes a timeout exception. But the wierd thing is another query does something similarly, with no issues. Any ideas why? Seems like a bug to me, or is there a workaround for this? I've since switched to extension methods which works. Thanks.

• How can I close the output stream after a jsp has been included.

  I have a webpage that makes an ajax call to get some data. That data takes a long time to calculate, so what I did was the first ajax server call returns "loading..." and then the thread goes on to calculate the data and store it in a cache. meanwhile the client javascript checks back every few seconds with another ajax call to see if the cache has been loaded yet. Here's my problem, and it might not be a problem. After the initial ajax to the server call, I do a ...getServletContext().getRequestDispatcher(jsppath).include(request, response); then I use that thread to do the calculations. I don't mind tying up the webserver thread with this, but I want the browser to get the response and not wait for the server to close the socket. I can't tell if the server is closing the socket after the include, but I'm guessing it's not. So how can I forcibly close the stream after I've written out my response, before starting my long calculations? I tried o = response.getOutputStream(); o.close(); but I get an illegal state exception saying that the output stream has already been gotten (presumably by the jsp I'm including) So my qestions: 1) is the webserver closing the socket (I'm guessing not, because you could always include another jsp) 2) if it is as I assume not closing the socket, how do I do that?

  I'm really struggling with hibernate sessions, I never have the result I expect when making a query on a modified session object. I think all my problems are related. I had the same problem with creating an object with an incremental id in a session, then creating another one in the same session before the commit, with a select max(id)+1. But the session gets me the same number of id every time.

• Socket stops communicating

  I'm running python 2.7 code on a Raspberry Pi that receives serial data from an Arduino, processes it, and sends it to a Windows box over a wifi link. The Pi is wired to a Linksys router running in client bridge mode and that router connects over wifi to another Linksys router to which the Windows box is wired. The code in the Pi runs fine for some (apparently) random interval, and then the Pi becomes unreachable from the Windows box. I'm running PUTTY on the the Windows machine to connect to the Pi and when the fail occurs I get a message saying there's been a network error and the Pi is not reachable. Pinging the Pi from the Windows machine works fine until the error, at which time it produces "Reply from 192.168.0.129: Destination host unreachable." The client bridge router to which the Pi is connected remains reachable. I've got the networking code on the Pi wrapped in an exception handler, and when it fails it shows the following: Ethernet problem: Traceback (most recent call last): File "garage.py", line 108, in module s.connect((host, port)) File "/usr/lib/python2.7/socket.py", line 224, in meth return getattr(self._sock,name)(*args) error: [Errno 113] No route to host None The relevant python code looks like: import socket import traceback host = '192.168.0.129' port = 31415 in the setup, and after serial data has been processed: try: bline = strline.encode('utf-8') s = socket.socket(socket.AF_INET, socket.SOCK_STREAM) s.connect((host, port)) s.send(bline) s.close() except: print "Ethernet problem: " print traceback.print_exc() Where strline contains the processed data. As I said, this runs fine for a few hours more or less before failing. Any ideas? EDIT: When PUTTY fails its error message is :Network Error: Software caused connection abort."

• android: error on SQLiteDatabase rawQuery (fetching data)

  So I have a SQliteDatabase mDb. It only has one column, and its data are Strings for previously saved inputs.   I got this code from a student, and it does not work properly because of a race condition involving x++ and x--. What can I do to resolve this error? • selective UnknownHostException

  Hi everybody! I am getting said Exception in my program, but only in certain cases. First of all, I have the internet permission set:<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.INTERNET" />, and I tried the two method of this and this thread (they don't work in my case). The scenario is the following: I send a GET request to a rest service (e.g. http://my.web.site/request.php?attr=blah) and I do get a correct xml back. Now, in this xml there are some resources described, one of which is an url to an image (e.g http://my.web.site/images/img.jpg). Here it's where it fails! Here I consistently receive a UnknownHostException. I find it weird, since it's the same domain and everything. Accessing the img url from browser works (both from the emulator browser and pc browser). I tried from a device too but it doesn't get the image anyway. Any idea on why this weird behavior? EDIT: all my tests were on emulator and device, but connected to a wifi network. I tried also using the internet connection of my provider on the phone (i.e. bypassing home network), and still the behavior is the same... I found this bug which I assume is the source of this problem, but still no solution (after more than 1.5years). Any ideas?

  I made the following test for my class: var mock = new Mock<IRandomNumberGenerator>(); mock.Setup(framework => framework.Generate(0, 50)) .Returns(7.0); var rnac = new RandomNumberAverageCounter(mock.Object, 1, 100); rnac.Run(); double result = rnac.GetAverage(); Assert.AreEqual(result, 7.0, 0.1); The problem here was that I changed my mind about what range of values Generate(int min, int max) would use. So in Mock.Setup() I defined the range as from 0 to 50 while later I actually called the Generate() method with a range from 1 to 100. I ran the test and it failed. I know that that is what it's supposed to happen but I was left wondering if isn't there a way to launch an exception or throw in a message when trying to run the method with wrong params. Also, if I want to run this Generate() method 10 times with different values (let's say, from 1 to 10), will I have to make 10 mock setups or something, or is there a special method for it? The best I could think of is this (which isn't bad, I'm just asking if there is other better way): for (int i = 1; i < 10; ++i) { mock.Setup(framework => framework.Generate(1, 100)) .Returns((double)i); }
