• Using reshape + cast to aggregate over multiple columns

  In R, I have a data frame with columns for Seat (factor), Party (factor) and Votes (numeric). I want to create a summary data frame with columns for Seat, Winning party, and Vote share. For example, from the data frame df <- data.frame(party=rep(c('Lab','C','LD'),times=4), votes=c(1,12,2,11,3,10,4,9,5,8,6,15), seat=rep(c('A','B','C','D'),each=3)) I want to get the output seat winner voteshare 1 A C 0.8000000 2 B Lab 0.4583333 3 C C 0.5000000 4 D LD 0.5172414 I can figure out how to achieve this. But I'm sure there must be a better way, probably a cunning one-liner using Hadley Wickham's reshape package. Any suggestions? For what it's worth, my solution uses a function from my package djwutils_2.10.zip and is invoked as follows. But there are all sorts of special cases it doesn't deal with, so I'd rather rely on someone else's code. aggregateList(df, by=list(seat=seat), FUN=list(winner=function(x) x$party[which.max(x$votes)], voteshare=function(x) max(x$votes)/sum(x$votes)))

• MapReduce results seem limited to 100?

  I'm playing around with Map Reduce in MongoDB and python and I've run into a strange limitation. I'm just trying to count the number of "book" records. It works when there are less than 100 records but when it goes over 100 records the count resets for some reason. • Cached Jquery selector behavior that I do not understand

  Given the following code why am I getting different values for a and b? I would have thought they would return the same thing: (function() { var a = $('#foo'); var Test = function(){ console.log(a); //outputs 'jQuery()' var b = $('#foo'); console.log(b); //outputs 'jQuery(select#foo)' which is what I want }; })(); This question stems from me trying to stick frequently used selectors into vars. Originally I was doing it in each method (like I did with var b in the above example) but then I found I needed to use the selectors in multiple methods so I moved the assignment out to be available (or so I thought) to all of the methods in that anonymous function. As you can see, it does not work. Why is this?

System.out.println("e-n-d of foo()"); } But maintaining of the dump code System.out.println is something tedious and error-prone, for there may be tens of thounds of function in an class. Any good idea can ease this work? I don't want dump statements all over the file. Implementation of both or one of the beginning & ending traces is perferd. But, if impossible, recordings of that the function has been called is also helpful. I mean not care the exact beginnig and ending, just tell that the function has been called.

  I am able to use jquery toenable/disable radiobuttonlist based on the checkbox value. But the problem is that I want to disable radiobuttonlist at the first time.   I'm working on my Matlab code in a number of different locations and it would really help if I could make the code aware of its location on the computer. I think there is a function that gives me exactly this information, but I can't remember what it is called or find it on Google. The idea is that I have a function myFunc that needs a file in its own directory, which can be in different locations on different computers. So in myFunc I want to do something like this: dir = theFunctionImLookingFor; system(fullfile(dir, 'someApp.exe')); (it could also be that the function I'm looking for doesn't return the directory, but the directory + m-file name, but that makes little difference to me) Thanks for any help!

  I have a problem with my form when I try to submit with ajax. I am using Malsup Form plugin for Jquery but also using tinyMCE editor. When I submit the form and check the $_POST array, there is no data from the textarea. I have tried to use the triggerSave() function but to no avail.   I have this code: $('#page-refresh').click( function() { $.ajax({ url: "/page1.php", cache: false, dataType: "html", success: function(data) { $('#pagelist').html(data); } }); return false; }); In this code is it possible that on the ajax success function it disables the #page-refresh click for 5 seconds then re-enable it? Basically if a person clicks the button and this action happens I dont want them to click and run this action again for another 5 seconds. I looked at delay() to unbind the click for this then bind it again but once it unbinded it never allowed me to click the button anymore.

(checker.php echo out how many points you've got in a span class vispoints1). Now isnt there a smarter method doing this, instead of sending requests like this all the time.. I mean sites like facebook and that, they dont do like this to check if you e.g got a new friend request? Hope you can help me find a better method examples would be good too.

I'm trying to use Jquery so that when the mouse enters the parent DIV box, the child element is made visible, and then hides when the mouse leaves the parent DV.   My jQuery code: $(document).ready(function() { chrome.extension.sendRequest({get: "height"}, function(response) { height = response.value; }); $("#id").css("height", height+"px"); }); You don't have to be concerned about the chrome.extension.sendRequest(), basically it communicates with a background page to fetch the value for "height" from localStorage and stores the value in global variable height. The problem lies in $("#id") not being assigned the height value. However if I were to modify it such that it is now: $(document).click(function() { $("#id").css("height", height+"px"); }); it works. Any idea why?

  The IIS URL Rewrite Module ships with 3 built-in functions: * ToLower - returns the input string converted to lower case. * UrlEncode - returns the input string converted to URL-encoded format. It seems that you're limited to using regular expressions and back-references to construct strings, without a search/replace functionality to replace every X with Y in {REQUEST_URI} before issuing a redirect.

  I'm creating a CMS using jQuery and AJAX. When I click, my "Add Campaign" buttom, it creates a unique client ID in the DB and on a hard reload, the new client shows up in its container. I am trying to use ajax to reload the container on the fly and I'm not having the exact luck i am hoping for. • List/Grid Toggle for Photo Gallery with Shadowbox

  so I'm new to this site, and new to jquery, and javascript as a whole really, but I have very good comprehension of HTML and CSS. For a class in school, I'm making a photo gallery webpage using the Shadowbox plugin. I have that part all down, but one of the requirements is to add some sort of user option that the user can change that will get saved in a cookie. (I haven't gotten to the cookie part yet) For my option, I decided to add a toggle that will switch the view of the page from a grid view (default) with images, to a list view of just the captions of the images. I figured out how to do that, but decided it could probably done in a much simpler fashion with the use of loops.   Hi, I am trying to get a text representation of a variable's name. For instance, this would be the function I am looking for: $abc = '123'; $var_name = &get_var_name($abc); #returns '$abc' I want this because I am trying to write a debug function that recursively outputs the contents of a passed variable, I want it to output the variable's name before hand so if I call this debug function 100 times in succession there will be no confusion as to which variable I am looking at in the output. I have heard of Data::Dumper and am not a fan. If someone can tell me how to if it's possible get a string of a variable's name, that would be great. Thanks!
