  • Problem with Tapestry palette's arrow icons in IE8

    I'm using Tapestry to create pages for a web app, and have been using the palette component to add/delete items to/from a group. The page looks great in Firefox (Tapestry seems biased towards Firefox), but my customers will all be using Internet Explorer (any versions from 6, 7, & 8) and in IE8, the disabled arrow buttons look awful. In Firefox, they are faded, using an opacity setting of 25%, but this doesn't work in IE8 and instead you get a faded image with an ugly black border around the image. In tapestry-core's stylesheet (default.css), you have the following for a disabled arrow button. DIV.t-palette-controls BUTTON[disabled] IMG { filter: alpha(opacity = 25); -moz-opacity: .25; } These are clearly out of date, as -moz-opacity is no longer supported by Firefox (use opacity: 25 instead). The problem is with filter: "alpha(opacity = 25);". If I remove this, the arrows look fine in IE8, but they are not faded. I got the magic instruction: -ms-filter:"progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.Alpha(opacity=25)"; from various websites, but putting this in does not work either - the arrow icons are ugly again. The icon itself (distributed with Tapestry) just seems to be a regular PNG, but I'm not an expert on image formats, so maybe there's a problem there? Anyone else had this problem?

  • no statement parsed and wrong number or types of arguments - cfstoredproc

    I have an Oracle procedure - editBacklog which I'm calling from a CFM page via cfstoredproc. After several changes to the procedure I started getting ORA-06550: line 1, column 7: PLS-00306: wrong number or types of arguments in call to 'EDITBACKLOG'. I've gotten this before and found that if I changed the name of the procedure it starts working again. I changed the name to editBacklog2 and it worked as I expected it to. I changed the name back to editBacklog and got the same error. I changed the name back to editBacklog2 again and started getting ORA-01003: no statement parsed. NOTHING has changed at this point except for the names. I changed the name yet again to editBacklog3 and it works as expected. As of right now editBacklog = ORA-06550 editBacklog2 = ORA-01003 editBacklog3 = works (kinda) This whole thing started when I was trying to fix an ORA-01821: date format not recognized error. I fear when I start changing things I'll start getting the same lame behavior described above. Either Oracle or CF is messing with me and I'll end up liking one of them less because of it. I assume it's probably cfstoredproc caching metadata or something but neither google, livedocs, or OTN have much to say about my situation. I'm not the SA or DBA. Anyone have any ideas?

  • Invoice & Invoice lines: How do you store customer address information?

    Hi I'm developing an invoicing application. So the general idea is to have two tables: Invoice (ID, Date, CustomerAddress, CustomerState, CustomerCountry, VAT, Total); InvoiceLine (Invoice_ID, ID, Concept, Units, PricePerUnit, Total); As you can see this basic design leads to a lot of repetiton of records where the client will have the same addrres, state and country. So the alternative is to have an address table and then make a relationship Address<-Invoice. However I think that an invoice is immutable document and should be stored just the way it was first made. Sometimes customers change their addresses, or states and if it was coming from an Address catalog that will change all the previously made invoices. So What is your experience? How is the customer address stored in an invoice? In the Invoice table? an Address Table? or something else? Can you provide pointers to a book, article or document where this is discussed in further detail?

However, when I retrieve the details, I keep finding that the last two guest details are always the same even though different inputs were given.   • Language+IDE for teaching high school students?

    I'm investigating languages and IDEs for a project involving teaching high-school students (around grade 11). It will teach basics of programming as an introduction to computer science (e.g., including how numbers/strings/characters are represented, using procedures and arrays, control flow, a little bit of algorithms, only very basic I/O). The non-negotiable requirements for this project are: a free up-to-date cross-platform IDE (Win & Mac incl. 64-bit) with debug a compiler where it's easy to learn from your mistakes together with the IDE, a gentle installation+learning curve So far, the best options I see are the following. Are there others I should know about? I am giving a short explanation with each one to generally show what I am looking for. In order from most to least promising: Pascal + FreePascal IDE (it seems a little buggy but actively developed?) Python + Eclipse + PyDev (good but features are overwhelming/hard to navigate) Groovy + Eclipse ('') Python + IDLE (looks unnatural to do debugging, to me) Pascal + Lazarus (IDE overwhelming, e.g. not obvious how to "start from scratch") Preferably, as a rule of thumb, the language should be direct enough that you don't need to wrap every program in a class, don't need to reference a System object to println, etc. I tried a little bit to see if there is something in JavaScript or (non-Visual) Basic along the lines of what I want, but found nothing so far. I would say that C/C++/C#, Java, Ruby, Lisp, VB do not fit my criteria for languages for this project. To reiterate my questions: are any of those 5 options really awesome or un-awesome? Are there other options which are even MORE awesome? Anything for Basic or JavaScript which meets all of the criteria? Thanks!

  • Problem compiling gnustep-gui-0.16.0 undefined reference to png_sizeof

    I'm trying to compile GNUstep on a linux box but gnustep-gui-0.16.0 package is failing. I downloaded GNUstep Startup stable 0.20.1 (http://wwwmain.gnustep.org/resources/downloads.php)and follow instructions about how to compile (./configure && make). I'm getting this error: libgnustep-gui.so: undefined reference to 'png_sizeof' I have compiled latest libpng (1.2.34) and I can see that png_sizeof is defined as macro. However, I'm not quite sure how to fix the gnustep-gui-0.16.0 build. I tried to pass the include/lib directory where libpng is installed to configure build but nothing seems to help. I have quite up to date linux box but using gcc 3.3 (upgrade is not an option - but this should not be a problem). Full error: Making all for tool set_show_service... Compiling file set_show_service.m ...     What path would you took to parse a large XML file (2MB - 20 MB or more), that does not have a schema (I cannot infer one with XSD.exe because the file structure is odd, check the snippet below)? Options 1) XML Deserialization (but as said, I don't have a schema and XSD tool complains about the file contents), 2) Linq to XML, 3) loading into XmlDocument, 4) Manual parsing with XmlReader & stuff.     That is a broad question, and I appreciate no short/dumb asnwers like: "Oh that is the model job, this quest is retarded (period)" PROBLEM Where I work at people created a system over 2 years for managing the manufacture process over demand in the most simplified still broad as possible, involving selling, buying, assemble, The system is coded over Ruby On Rails. The app has been changed lots of times and the result is a mess on callbacks (some are called several times), 200+ models, and fat controllers: Total bad. The QUESTION is, if there is a gem, or pattern designed to handle Rails large app logic? The logic whould be able to fully talk to models (whose only concern would be data format handling and validation) What I EXPECT is to reduce complexity from various controllers, and hard to track callbacks into files with the responsibility to handle a business operation logic. In some cases there is the need to wait for a response, in others, only validation of the input is enough and a bg process would take place. ie: -- Sell some products (need to wait the operation to finish) 1. Set a View able to get the products input 2. Controller gets the product list inputed by employee and call the logic Logic::ExecuteWithResponse('sell', 'products', :prods => @product_list_with_qtt, :when => @date, :employee => current_user() ) This Logic would handle buying order, assemble order, machine schedule, warehouse reservation, and others. Have in mind that a callback on SalesOrder is not enough, since it depends on where it is called (no field for that), depends on the class of the user, among other stuff not visible for the model, or in some cases it would take long for the model to process.

  • How to use iPhone SDK Private APIs

    I haven't found a comprehensive list of the steps that are required to use a private API from the iPhone Library. In particular, I would like to know how to get header files, if they are even required, how to get it to compile (when I simply add the header, it complains that the functions aren't defined), and what resources one can use to learn about private APIs (e.g. from other user's experiences, such as http://iphonedevwiki.net/ which has a few). I've read in other places that people recommend using class-dump to get the headers. Are there any alternative methods? I've noticed that there are some repositories of iPhone Private SDKs, what are the most up to date resources you would recommend? Most of the previous questions about documentation of private APIs, have all linked to Erica Sadun's website, which doesn't seem to have documentation anymore (all the links on the left are crossed out). Please save the comments about not using private API's... I know of the biggest risks: App will get rejected by Apple. App will break in future updates to the OS. I'm talking about legitimate uses, such as: Private application use (e.g. for unit testing, or messing around to see what's possible)

    I am using Symfony 1.3.2 with Propel ORM on Ubuntu 9.10. I am incorporating memcache to the website. I have modified the setup() method in apps/frontend/ProjectConfiguration.class.php like this: class ProjectConfiguration { public function setup() { // original SF generated code here .. require_one sfConfig::get('sf_lib_dir').'/MyCache.class.php'; myCache::init(); } } my cache singleton is implemented something like this: class MyCache { private static memcache = null; private static inited = false; public static init() { if (self::$inited) return; self::$memcache = new Memcache(); if (self::$memcache->connect('localhost', 11211) { // Do some stuff .. self::$inited = true; } } } Warning: Memcache::connect(0memcache.connect0): Can't connect to localhost:11211, Connection refused(111) in /path_to_class/MyCache.class.php This happens for both CLI (e.g. running SF tasks) or for web access through the browser. Does anyone know how to resolve this (I suspect its something to do with Linux user privileges). As an aside, I am aware that SF prvoides an sfAPCache wrapper class for cacheing. I am intentionally not using it for two reasons: I cannot find any comprehensive (and up to date) docs on this class I want to learn the memcache API directly, since I will be accesing it from other languages.

    I have two models, Event and Series, where each Event belongs to a Series. Most of the time, an Event's start_time is the same as its Series' default_time. Here's a stripped down version of the models. #models.py class Series(models.Model): name = models.CharField(max_length=50) default_time = models.TimeField() class Event(models.Model): name = models.CharField(max_length=50) date = models.DateField() start_time = models.TimeField() series = models.ForeignKey(Series) I use inlines in the admin application, so that I can edit all the Events for a Series at once. If a series has already been created, I want to prepopulate the start_time for each inline Event with the Series' default_time.     I am preparing an offer for a customer. They proide weekly data to different organizations. There is huge amount data suits OLAP that needed to be visualized with charts and pivot tables on web and custom reports will be built by non-it persons (an easy gui). They will enter a date range, location which data columns to be included and generate report and optionally export the data to Excel. They currently prepare reports with MS Excel with Pivot Tables and but they need a better online tool now to show data to their customers. Tables are huge and need of drill-down functionality. My current knowledge Spring, Flex, MySql, Linux. I have some knowledge of PostgreSQL and MSSQL and Windows. What is the easiest way of doing this project. Do you think that SSRP (haven't tried yet) and ASP.NET better suits for this kind of job. Actually I prefer open source solutions. Flex have OLAP Data Grid control which do aggregation on client side. JasperServer seems promising but it seems I need enterprise version (multiple organizations and ad hoc queries). What about Modrian + Flex + PostgreSQL solution? Any previous experience will be appreciated. Yes I am confused with options.

    I have an application which I've developed for a friend. It sends a POST request to the VB forum software and logs someone in (with out setting cookies or anything). Once the user is logged in I create a variable that creates a path on their local machine. c:\tempfolder\date\username The problem is that some usernames are throwing "Illegal chars" exception. For example if my username was mas|fenix it would throw an exception.. Path.Combine( _ Environment.GetFolderPath(System.Environment.SpecialFolder.CommonApplicationData), _ DateTime.Now.ToString("ddMMyyhhmm") + "-" + form1.username) I don't want to remove it from the string, but a folder with their username is created through FTP on a server. And this leads to my second question. If I am creating a folder on the server can I leave the "illegal chars" in? I only ask this because the server is Linux based, and I am not sure if Linux accepts it or not.. EDIT: It seems that URL encode is NOT what I want.. Here's what I want to do: old username = mas|fenix new username = mas%xxfenix Where %xx is the ASCII value or any other value that would easily identify the character.

  • Windows-mobile app won't run after being closed by Task Manager

    I've inherited some windows-mobile code that I've been bringing up-to-date. I've come across a weird bug, and I was hoping that even though a bit vague, maybe it will spark someone's memory: Running the app (which is basically a glorified Forms app with P/Invoke gps code), I switch to the task manager, and close the app via End Task. Seems to exit fine (no errors and disappears from Task Manager). Unfortunately, the app refuses to start a second time until I reboot the phone or reinstall the CAB. What's worse: this bug is reproducible on a HTC Diamond, but works fine (ie. can run again after EndTask) on an HTC HD2. The only thing I can think of is some kind of timing race between a Dispose() and the Task Manager. Any ideas? I'm also thinking of a workaround - I do have a working "Exit Application" routine that correctly cleans up the app; can I catch the EndTask event in the c# code in order to complete a proper cleanup? Maybe I'm just missing the pain point... all ideas welcome :)

However, when I include an instance of my CustomActivity in a workflow, my custom theme is not applied and it is displayed in the Visual Studio Designer as any standard activity would (white background etc.). I tried re-compiling and even re-starting Visual Studio a couple of times, just to make sure the used assembly is up-to-date, but to no avail. My question: What am I missing? Why does Visual Studio's Workflow Designer not respect the CustomActivityTheme when it displays a CustomActivity?

  • Ruby - Immutable Objects

    I've got a highly multithreaded app written in Ruby that shares a few instance variables. Writes to these variables are rare (1%) while reads are very common (99%). What is the best way (either in your opinion or in the idiomatic Ruby fashion) to ensure that these threads always see the most up-to-date values involved? Here's some ideas so far that I had (although I'd like your input before I overhaul this): Have a lock that most be used before reading or writing any of these variables (from Java Concurrency in Practice). The downside of this is that it puts a lot of synchronize blocks in my code and I don't see an easy way to avoid it. Use Ruby's freeze method (see here), although it looks equally cumbersome and doesn't give me any of the synchronization benefits that the first option gives. These options both seem pretty similar but hopefully anyone out there will have a better idea (or can argue well for one of these ideas). I'd also be fine with making the objects immutable so they aren't corrupted or altered in the middle of an operation, but I don't know Ruby well enough to make the call on my own and this question seems to argue that objects are highly mutable.
