• mysql database that can be accessed over a vpn?

  I have 2 computers. Both with w7 as os. I have installed wampserver on one of them. I have mysql database on wampserver. Then I have made a vb.net program to connect to mysql database. I have put the program on both computers. What I want to do is for those two programs to see the same database that is on one computer. For them to be able to add, delete, update that 1 database. How do I do that? How do I network the mysql database? Do I also have to install wampserver on the other computer? What do I do? Please enlighten me.

  I'm new to Ruby, and have been working my way through Mr Neighborly's Humble Little Ruby Guide. There have been a few typos in the code examples along the way, but I've always managed to work out what's wrong and subsequently fix it - until now! This is really basic, but I can't get the following example to work on Mac OS X (Snow Leopard): gone = "Got gone fool!" puts "Original: " + gone gone.delete!("o", "r-v") puts "deleted: " + gone Output I'm expecting is: Original: Got gone fool! deleted: G gne fl! Output I actually get is: Original: Got gone fool! deleted: Got gone fool! The delete! method doesn't seem to have had any effect. Can anyone shed any light on what's going wrong here? :-\

• Trouble Installing the new Android SDK

  I've installed the newest Android SDK using eclipse's software updates feature to hit the resource at https://dl-ssl.google.com/android/eclipse/. After installing it, it seems like the SDK is integrated into Eclipse, but when I try to create a new project with a single blank activity in it, I get the following error: [2009-06-06 11:41:24 - TestProject] no classfiles specified [2009-06-06 11:41:24 - TestProject] Conversion to Dalvik format failed with error 1 This is using eclipse version 3.4.2 running on top of Mac OS 10.5.7 on a 32 bit processor. Is this a misconfiguration on my part? Have I missed a part of the installation?

• How much of the "Objective-C" I'm learning is universal Objective-C, and not Apple's frameworks?

  This question is related to one of my others about C: What can you do in C without “std” includes? Are they part of “C,” or just libraries? I've become curious lately as to what is really contained the the core Objective-C language, and what parts of the Objective-C I've done for iPhone/OS X development is specific to Apple platforms. I know that things like syntax are the same, but for instance, is NSObject and its torrent of NS-subclasses actually part of "standard" Objective-C? Could I use them in, say, Windows? What parts are universal for the most part, and what parts would I only find on an Apple platform? If you want, giving an example of Objective-C used elsewhere as an example of what is more "universal" would help me as well. Thanks! =)

  i am trying to use GLM to load a .obj object in my Objective-C Program (Xcode 4.4 Mac Os X). I have added the glm folder to my project. i try to import it using #import "glm/glm.hpp", but the program doesn't build. some of the errors are the following: (this errors are produced in the GLM files) namespace glm{ //Unknown type name 'namespace' namespace detail { ..... it doesn't find the cstdlib, cmath, and other libraries.... • Options for non-native form inputs for the web?

  I'm wondering if there are any good non-native form inputs for web development? I am currently using the built in <input> controls. They work just fine, but for my application they are too big (especially on OS X). I am wondering if there are any libraries that I can drop in as replacements. I am especially interested in ones that: Are a close to native control behavior as possible. Support for tabbing, highlighting current textbox, pressing up/down in <select>, etc. Have something that replicates <select> Look good and are compact I am aware that you can use CSS for some styling, but it's pretty minimal and looks different depending on the browser. • ListView control rendering issue with Groups, CheckBoxes and View mode SmallIcon

  Microsoft MSDN site has next remark: "Any groups assigned to a ListView control appear whenever the ListView.View property is set to a value other than View.List." My problem is that i like to have View set to SmallIcon. In this mode ListView control is shifted left, and CheckBoxes are covered by left edge How to solve this issue, or at least how is possible to shift rendering of control to the right. My OS is Windows XP Service Pack 3. It looks like that ListView items with Groups and CheckBoxes shows correctly only when View set to Details.

• Chipmunk Physics or Box2D for C++ 2D GameEngine ?

  Hello, I'm developing what it's turning into a "cross-platform" 2D Game Engine, my initial platform target is iPhone OS, but could move on to Android or even some console like the PSP, or Nintendo DS, I want to keep my options open. My engine is developed in C++, and have been reading a lot about Box2D and Chipmunk but still I can't decide which one to use as my Physics Middleware. Chipmunk appears to have been made to be embedded easily, and Box2D seems to be widely used. Chipmunk is C , and Box2D is C++, but I've heard the API's of Box2D are much worse than chipmunk's API's. For now I will be using the engine shape creation and collision detection features for irregular polygons (not concave). I value: 1) Good API's 2) Easy to integrate. 3) Portability. And of course if you notice anything else, I would love to hear it. Which one do you think that would fit my needs better ?

  I have rvm installed on a Mac OS X 10.6 system with the system ruby and 1.9.1. I also have this basic ruby script: #!/usr/bin/ruby require 'curb-fu' I need the script to use the system ruby regardless of what rvm's using at any given time; I'm assuming that I've got that right, at least. I've switched to the system ruby (rvm use system) and then installed the gem (gem install curb-fu). If I run irb and type require 'curb-fu', it works. However, running that script with ./myscript.rb fails: /Users/me/bin/podcast_notify.rb:6:in `require': no such file to load -- curb-fu (LoadError) from /Users/me/bin/podcast_notify.rb:6 What's going wrong here? How do I install curb-fu so that it's always available to this script?

• XAMPP is caching .html files running as PHP

  I have XAMPP (latest version) installed on my Mac OS 10.6.3 I've added the following to .htaccess because I want .html to be interpreted as PHP. AddType application/x-httpd-php .php .html The problem is that the default XAMPP config seems to be caching .html files as static... so even though the PHP statements inside are being called (for example, 'echo time()' in index.html displays the dynamic output)... the actual file is being cached. When I make changes to a .html file, I've having to restart Apache for it to load the newest changes. Looking at httpd.conf, it looks like it's loading the following cache mods.. LoadModule file_cache_module modules/mod_file_cache.so LoadModule cache_module modules/mod_cache.so LoadModule disk_cache_module modules/mod_disk_cache.so LoadModule mem_cache_module modules/mod_mem_cache.so Any idea how to implement a system whereby it checks the timestamp of the file, before loading it from cache? • Is writing to a socket an arbitrary limitation of the sendfile() syscall?

  Prelude sendfile() is an extremely useful syscall for two reasons: First, it's less code than a read()/write() (or recv()/send() if you prefer that jive) loop. Second, it's faster (less syscalls, implementation may copy between devices without buffer, etc...) than the aforementioned methods. Less code. More efficient. Awesome. In UNIX, everything is (mostly) a file. This is the ugly territory from the collision of platonic theory and real-world practice. I understand that sockets are fundamentally different than files residing on some device. I haven't dug through the sources of Linux/*BSD/Darwin/whatever OS implements sendfile() to know why this specific syscall is restricted to writing to sockets (specifically, streaming sockets). I just want to know... Question What is limiting sendfile() from allowing the destination file descriptor to be something besides a socket (like a disk file, or a pipe)?

• Archlinux auto-start after I shutdown my computer

  every one. I'm in a big trouble. My computer (HP ProBook 4230s) has two OS----Archlinux and Win 7. When I use Archlinux, after halt my computer, it will start up after a while without press power. And there is an other thing. My computer's clock will be wrong. Many times I change it in bios, but it wrong again. If I turn off the computer from Win 7, it will never start up untill pressing power bottom. And the clock will be right. I also used ubuntu\debian\mageia, and both of them are fine with my notebook. Is there some configure is wrong with my ArchLinux?

• Fluent NHib causing visual studio 2010 hanging at runtime

  Just installed and migrated a 2008 solution on Vista ultimate 64 and .net 4.0. Everything builds and tests run surprisingly well but I got the hang description below while trying to run the app under SQLite. It turns out that the hang has got something to do when the call is made for FNH to build the session factory during a run, the only feedback I get is that the database wasn't configure properly without any inner exception. The strange part is that the exact code works perfectly under tests. Any clues? Description: A problem caused this program to stop interacting with Windows. • Colour output piped to less

  Operating system: Mac OS 10.6.2 I'd like to be able to see colour output when piping certain commands through less. Two examples: I've got ls aliased to ls --color=auto, so I'd like to be able to see colour when I do this: ls -l | less I've also got the color extension turned on in Mercurial, so I'd like to see colour output from: hg diff | less and hg st | less After some googling, it seems like some versions of less support either -r or -R to make this work, but no dice for me. I can't see anything in the man page that looks like what I need. (-r or -R SEEM to be the right options, but again, they don't seem to work)

• Is there a Windows API to modify file type associations for an extension?

  I'm looking for a way to programatically tweak the particulars of a file association on a Windows system. For example, the "Application User to Perform this Action" setting for the "Open" action for a particular file type. Clearly I could do this by modifying the registry directly, but if there is an API I'd prefer to use that as it would likely be more resilient to changes in the OS handling of mapping extensions to applications. For my purposes I'm needing to write this in VBScript (.VBS) file because it is part of a package to be used with VMWare ThinApp that mandates it. However, I'll port/wrap/whatever I need to make this week, so I am open to any solution (including using the .NET framework)

• What's the best version control system for handling projects with graphics?

  I'm part of a small team (usually just two people), I handle the code, he handles the graphic design. In the past I've used CVS to handle version control of the code files, and while we've included the graphics in the repository, he hasn't derived nearly as much value from it as I have. Are there other packages that provide the better features for supporting graphics? The system would need to have an easy to use GUI interface, as I don't think it's fair to expect a graphic designer to learn command-line tools. Additional aspect: The client software needs to run smoothly on OS X (for the designer), and Windows (for the programmer).

• Getting the starting shortcut in c#

  Lets say that I have an executable and when it is started I want to know how it's started. I.e. I would like to know if it is started with a shortcut or directly. With this: string test = Environment.GetCommandLineArgs()[0]; I can get the path of the executable, but this is always the same, even if it's started by a shortcut. Lets say my executable is named c:\text.exe and I start it directly, then test = 'c:\test.exe' If I create a shortcut i.e. c:\shortcut.lnk (with target c:\test.exe) I want test to be 'c:\shortcut.exe' but it is 'c:\test.exe' I strongly suspect this to be impossible because the OS handles the shortcut part and the executable never can see the difference, but maybe someone has a creative idea?
