  • How to integrate KVC in MVC?

    So I have an MVC-application in Cocoa. There are some custom views, a controller and a model. Of course, the views need to know some stuff, so they get their data from the controller. However, they do not use accessors in the controller, they use KVC with a keypath that calls right through to the model: // In view.m time = [timeSource valueForKeyPath:@"theModel.currentTime"]; // timeSource is a pseudo-delegate of the view that holds the controller This simplifies things a great deal and technically, the views still don't know the model in person (that is, in pointer). But of course, they access it directly. Is that a usual (or at least sensible) usage of KVC and MVC? Or how would you implement this kind of communication?

  • UIButton of type UIButtonTypeCustom will not display Title (iPhone)

    Hi I must have overlooked something completely obvious?? but my button displays its image and size correctly, but I simply can't get the Title to show up.     I just wanted to clarify my understanding of ASP .NET MVC (current version is 4). I was reading this article on How does ASP.NET MVC work? So, how does ASP.NET know how to route requests to MVC? The answer lies in web.config. There is a new http module added to modules collection in ASP.NET MVC projects So basically an mvc application is implemented as an HTTPModule or at least the url routing portion of an mvc app? Would it be possible for one to create and register a custom routing module and then possibly create their own micro mvc framework like Sinatra in Ruby or Slim in PHP?

Since these colors will be fixed for my UI, I would like to define the colors in a class to be included (Constants.h and Constants.m). How do I do that?     I'm using Validation Application Block - Enterprise Library to validate parameters sent to my WCF Service operations. For instance, a certain operation requires the parameter to either be a 1 or 6, like so: [OperationContract(Name="GetEmployeesByRegion")] [FaultContract(typeof(ValidationFault))] List<Employees> GetEmployeesByRegion([DomainValidator(1,6)]int regionId); This works just fine i.e the validation fault occurs however, when the service is invoked by the client, a generic System.ServiceModel.FaultException is thrown. An the message indicates: "The creator of this fault did not specify a reason." Now, I could check the parameters myself before the service cal and throw a custom fault but that seems to defeat the purpose of attribute based validation of parameters using the Validation Application Block. Is there anyway to customize the error returned by the validation Fault? It is also possible I'm doing something completely wrong. I just want the caller to know that he/she should have passed in a 1 or 6 in the exception message. Is this possible?

    Hi there, In my Flex application, using a custom control, I am making a JSON request to grab some data from the server. My rendering depends on this data such as knowing how many boxes to draw. How can I either force the rendering to wait until I've got the data before drawing to screen or have the boxes draw once we receive the data? I have an event listener for Event.COMPLETE for my JSON request and in there, I call methods that add to the control. I've tried invalidateDisplayList but that doesn't seem to do anything for me?

  • MKMapView - viewForAnnotation not called while loading more results

    I have a search enabled map view. When user hits search, my custom annotations are added to the map view. The search returns 20 results with a 'load more' link. When I hit load more, more annotations should be added to map view. The problem is - annotations gets added to the map view but is not displayed on the map. If I zoom in or zoom out to change the map region, the pins are shown. I find that viewForAnnotations: is not getting called when i hit 'load more'. I am not sure how to trigger this. any one?

That's okay so far because bool is a value type and never null. But even if I make AgreesWithTerms nullable it won't work because the compiler shouts "Templates can be used only with field access, property access, single-dimension array index, or single-parameter custom indexer expressions." So, what's the correct way to handle this?

    Hi, Currently, I created my custom PerWebRequestLifetimeManager using HttpContext.Current.Items as backing store. I used that lifetime manager for Linq2Sql DataContext. Eveything is working fine until I need to use Cache for storing data (for 5 min). After 5 min, I need to retrieve data from DB and put it into the Cache. To do so, I need to use Linq2Sql DataContext for retrieving data. But during that time, HttpContext.Current is null because which was happened when cache is expired; not in Web Request. So, what kind of LifetimeManager should I use for this scenario? Thanks in advance.

    Hi, I've been looking at the following example for populating a PupUpMenuButton http://blog.flexexamples.com/2008/02/21/creating-a-custom-label-function-on-a-flex-popupmenubutton-control/ and would like to add icons to each menu. Ideally, I would specify the icon in the xml and assign it in a similar way to using labelFunction for the text. I'm pretty new to Flex and would appreciate some guidance with this. The only information I've found via google is to create a menu as follows (seems I can't include more than one url, but it is an example that creates a menu object using the following function): private function initMenu():void { menu = new Menu(); menu.dataProvider = xmlList; menu.labelField = "@label"; menu.iconField = "@icon"; } but I would really prefer to build it all from the XML file.     I want to embed a custom c# windows form (or WPF) user control into an outlook view. I am using Outlook 2003 and Visual Studio 2008. I did download an example for Outlook 2007 here: http://blogs.msdn.com/e2eblog/archive/2008/01/09/outlook-folder-homepage-hosting-wpf-activex-and-windows-forms-controls.aspx and also here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa479345.aspx I tested it and under 2007 it is working, but for 2003 i am getting the following error when i want to open the view: Could not complete the operation due to error 80131509 I can start it from Visual Studio, it is registering the folder just fine, debugging works and all that. It creates an HTML page that contains my type as an object parameter - but the Initialize method that should be called is either not present (not shown via JS) or it has some errors. The breakpoints for RegisterSafeForScripting are also never hit - maybe related to that. Thx in advance!

I have built my own little custom XML-RPC server, and since I'd like to keep things simple, on both server and client side, what I would like to accomplish is to create a simplest possible client (in C# preferably) using WCF. Let's say that Contract for service exposed via XML-RPC is as follows: [ServiceContract] public interface IContract { [OperationContract(Action="Ping")] string Ping(); // server returns back string "Pong" [OperationContract(Action="Echo")] string Echo(string message); // server echoes back whatever message is } So, there are two example methods, one without any arguments, and another with simple string argument, both returning strings (just for sake of example).   • Sendmail Failing to Forward Locally Addressed Mail to Exchange Server

    I've recently gained employment as a web developer with a small company. What they neglected to tell me upon hire was that I would be administrating the server along with my other daily duties. Now, truth be told, I'm not clueless when it comes to these things, but this is my first rodeo working with a rack server/console.. However, I'm confident that I will be able to work through any solutions you provide. Short Description: When a customer places an order via our (Magento CE 1.8.1.0) website, a copy of said order is supposed to be BCC'd to our sales manager. I say supposed because this was a working feature before the old administrator left. Long Description: Shortly after I started, we had a server crash which required a server restart. After restart, we noticed a few features on our site weren't working, but all those have been cleaned up except this one. I had to create an account on our server for root access. When a customer places an order, our sites software (Magento CE 1.8.1.0) is configured to BCC the customers order email to our sales manager. We use a Microsoft Exchange 2007 Server for our mail, which is hosted on a different machine (in-house) that I don't have access to ATM, but I'm sure I could if needed. As far as I can tell, all other external emails work.. Only INTERNAL email addresses fail to deliver. I know this because I've also tested my own internal address via our website. I set up an account with an internal email, made a test order, and never received the email. I changed my email for the account to an external GMail account, and received emails as expected. Let's dive into the logs and config's. For privacy/security reasons, names have been changed to the following: domain.com = Our Top Level Domain. email.local = Our Exchange Server. example.com = ANY other TLD. OLDadmin = Our previous Server Administrator. NEWadmin = Me. SALES@ = Our Sales Manager. Customer# = A Customer.   • UIScrollView subviews not showing at first

    I created a custom UIScrollView subclass that works a like a UITableView, keeping a collection of subviews and re-using them whenever the user scrolls. It's implemented like this: -(void)layoutSubviews { for(UIView *subview in [self subviews]) [subview removeFromSuperview]; // then re-add subviews after changing the frame and some attributes } This works fine with simple UIViews, but when I try to do it with a UIView that has a UILabel subview, the "base" view appears fine, but the UILabel doesn't show up at all. I can get the UILabel to show up by scrolling the entire UIView off screen and then bringing it back on. What could be causing this? So far, I've tried calling [myUIView setNeedsLayout], [myUIView setNeedsDisplay], and [myUIView layoutIfNeeded] from various places. None of them worked, and the last one crashed my app. I've also done the same thing to myUIScrollViewSubclass, with similar results.

    This might be a straightforward question, even though I haven't found an easy solution to it: I've implemented my custom UITypeEditor with the sole purpose of adding a PaintValue to bools. For the sake of the discussion, let's assume that PaintValue will either paint a checked or unchecked radiobutton. Question 1: Now, here's the problem: It seems like PaintValue automatically inserts a 20x13px rectangle after all paint code has completed. Naturally, a radiobutton inside a black rectangle is ugly. Can I easily instruct or override this rectagle not to be painted? Question 2: In this respect, is it possible to paint on top of the propertygrid's native look - meaning could I paint something in order to obscure (part of) the black line separating two grid cells vertically? The purpose of doing this would be to indicate that two values were linked, like constrained width/height to an aspect ratio.

    We develop mostly low traffic but highly specialized web applications. Normally we use L2S, EF or nHibernate as access layer and then throws Asp.Net MVC to it and in which for normal crud operations we query the ISession/DataContext directly but for more advanced functions/side effects we put it in a some kind of service layer. Now, i was think about publishing the data through OData (WCF Data Service) and query that from the controllers (or even from jQuery when the a good template engine shows up) and publish the service operations through a WCF service (or as custom methods on the WCF Data Service?). What advantages/disadvantages does this architecture poses? Do I gain something except higher complexity and latency? Better separations of concerns (or is it just a illusion)?

  • Can iTextSharp rasterize/export to JPEG or other image format?

    I need to be able to export PDF's that I am creating to JPEG, so that users can have a screenshot/thumbnail of the end product, which is faster than opening the whole PDF. I am running this on an ASP.NET website running in Medium Trust in the Rackspace Mosso Cloud. I have yet to find a library that will either work in Medium trust, or in the case of ABC PDF, which works great locally, wont load in Mosso. Maybe Mosso has a custom trust level? I know that iTextSharp works on Mosso, but I haven't been able to figure how to "screenshot" a single page of a PDF, or export a page to JPEG. Is there anyone out there who has done this before?

  • Annotating axis in ggplot2

    I am looking for the way to annotate axis in ggplot2. The example of the problem can be found here: http://learnr.wordpress.com/2009/09/24/ggplot2-back-to-back-bar-charts. The y axis of the chart (example graph in the link) has an annotation: (million euro). Is there a way to create such types of annotations in ggplot2? Looking at the documentation there is no obvious way, since the ggplot does not explicitly let you put objects outside plotting area. But maybe there is some workaround? One of the possible workarounds I thought about is using scales: data=data.frame(x=1:10,y=1:10) qplot(x=x,y=y,data=data)+scale_y_continuous(breaks=10.1,label="Millions") But then how do I remove the tick? And it seems that since ggplot does not support multiple scales, I will need to grab the output of the scale_y_continuous, when it calculates the scales automaticaly and then add my custom break and label by hand. Maybe there is a better way?

    Suppose I have a MyWidget which contains a MySubWidget, e.g. a custom widget that contains a text field or something. I want other classes to be able to connect to signals and slots exposed by the contained MySubWidget instance. Is the conventional way to do this: Expose a pointer to the MySubWidget instance through a subWidget() method in MyWidget Duplicate the signals and slots of MySubWidget in the MyWidget class and write "forwarding" code Something else? Choice 1 seems like the least code, but it also sort of breaks encapsulation, since now other classes know what the contained widgets of MyWidget are and might become dependent on their functionality. Choice 2 seems like it keeps encapsulation, but it's a lot of seemingly redundant and potentially convoluted code that kind of messes up the elegance of the whole signals and slots system. What is normally done in this situation?

  • Is it possible to get Cufon to work on a button?

    So right now I'm bashing my head - at the moment we use an element for a button to give it our own custom font, fine - this works, but as we're using Cufon on the rest of the site, we're wondering if it's possible to get Cufon working on a button. So far I've changed the button to an and using standard css styles on an 'input' or 'input[type="submit"]' element work fine - but I've tried both of these in cufon to no avail. This is a button - so as Cufon generates images, this should work, but maybe I'm doing it wrong - can anyone help?
