• iPhone: How to create dynamic image dragging ala iphone icon rearranging

  On the iPhone, if you touch and hold your finger on an icon, it starts vibrating, then you can drag them around while the other icons move aside and rearrange dynamically. I'm trying to figure out how to do this inside an application with a grid of images or buttons. I don't need them to vibrate, but I do want the UI to allow the user to drag them with real-time dynamic reordering and then return the new position (ie, an int for accessing a mutable array). Any ideas how to do this? Any sample code out there? Thanks!

I would like to use a loop and doing something like this: var arrayOfResults = $.results..div.p does not work because I only want to retrieve the p value for the div element with class "sT". So how do I construct my JSONpath so that it will retrive the array of p elements that are contained within the divs class "sT". Thanks!!

• jQuery.post dynamic data callback function

  I have a script that requires quite e few seconds of processing, up to about minute. The script resizes an array of images, sharpens them and finally zips them up for the user to download. Now I need some sort of progress messages. I was thinking that with jQuery's .post() method the data from the callback function would progressively update, but that doesn't seem to work. • PHP pathinfo gets fooled by url in quert string. Any workaround?

  I am working on a small function to take in a url and return a relative path based on where it resides itself. If the url contains a path in the query string, pathinfo returns incorrect results. This is demonstrated by the code below: $p = 'http://localhost/demos/image_editor/dir_adjuster.php?u=http://localhost/demos/some/dir/afile.txt'; $my_path_info = pathinfo($p); echo $p . '<br/><pre>'; print_r($my_path_info); echo '</pre>'; That code outputs: http://localhost/demos/image_editor/dir_adjuster.php?u=http://localhost/demos/some/dir/afile.txt Array ( [dirname] => http://localhost/demos/image_editor/dir_adjuster.php?u=http://localhost/demos/some/dir [basename] => afile.txt [extension] => txt [filename] => afile ) Which obviously is wrong.   I'm trying to use a regular expression to capture the contents of all option values inside an HTML select element For example, in: <select name="test"> <option value="blah">one</option> <option value="mehh">two</option> <option value="rawr">three</option> </select> I'd like to capture one two and three into an array. My current code is var pages = responseDetails.responseText.match(/<select name="page" .+?>(?:\s*<option .+?>([^<]+)<\/option>)+\s*<\/select>/); for (var c = 0; c<pages.length; c++) { alert(pages[c]); } But it only captures the last value, in this case, "three". • Refreshing an XML file through HTTPService in Flex

  I'm having a problem refreshing an xml file. I am bringing it in through an HTTP service component and putting it into a bindable array _cattArr, that I am using as the dataprovider for a grid. When someone adds an item to the datagrid, it saves to the same xml file. Then I close the window, reopen it and don't see the item that has been added. It is writing to the xml file, because when I restart the flex app, the item has been added, it's just not refreshing it. I have tried to resend the httpservice, but still no luck. What is the correct process for doing this?

• Best library to parse HTML with Python 3 and example?

I need to parse some HTML, to essentially extra values between specific HTML tags and am confused at my array of options, and everything I find is suited for Python 2.x. I've read raves about Beautiful Soup, HTML5Lib and lxml, but I cannot figure out how to install any of these on Windows. Questions: What HTML parser do you recommend? How do I install it? Do you have a simple example on how to use the recommended library to snag HTML from a specific URL and return the value out of say something like this: fooLink (say we want to return "/blahblah")

• How can I access data that's stored in my App Delegate from my various view controllers?

  This question is similar to this other post, but I'm new to iPhone development and I'm getting used to the good practices for organizing my data throughout my app. I understand the ApplicationDelegate object to be the best place to manage data that is global to my app, correct? If so, how can I access data that's stored in my App Delegate from various view controllers? Specifically, I have an array of table section titles for my root table view controller created as such... appdelegate.m sectionTitles = [[NSArray alloc] initWithObjects: @"Title1", @"Title2", @"Title3", nil]; rootViewController.appDelegate = self; and I need to access it throughout the different views of my app, like such... rootviewcontroller.m NSUInteger numSections = [self.appDelegate.sectionTitles count]; Is this the best way to do it or are there any reasons I should organize my data a better way? • How to do a range query

  I have a bunch of numbers timestamps that I want to check against a range to see if they match a particular range of dates. Basically like a BETWEEN .. AND .. match in SQL. The obvious data structure would be a B-tree, but while there are a number of B-tree implementations on CPAN, they only seem to implement exact matching. Berkeley DB has the same problem; there are B-tree indices, but no range matching. What would be the simplest way to do this? I don't want to use an SQL database unless I have to. Clarification: I have a lot of these, so I'm looking for an efficient method, not just grep over an array.

• ls output changing when used through exec()

  I'm using the ls command via PHP and exec() and I get a different output than when I run the same command via the shell. When running ls through PHP the year and month of the date get changed into the month name: Running the command through the shell: $ ls -lh /path/to/file -rw-r--r-- 1 sysadmin sysadmin 36M 2011-05-18 13:25 file Running the command via PHP: <?php exec("ls -lh /path/to/file", $output); print_r($output); /* Array ( [0] => -rw-r--r-- 1 sysadmin sysadmin 36M May 18 13:25 file ) */ Please note that: -the issue doesn't occur when I run the PHP script via the cli (it only occurs when run through apache) -I checked the source code of the page to make sure that what I was seeing was what I was getting (and I do get the month name instead of the proper date) -I also run the ls command through the shell as the www-data user to see if ls was giving different output depending on the user (the output is the always the same from the shell, that is I get the date in yyyy-mm-dd instead of the month name)

  I'm attempting to write a wrapper so that my C# application can use a DLL written in C. Here is a method defintion that i'm trying to wrap: void methodA(const uint32_t *data); //c header declaration The issue I'm having is trying to figure out how to give a equivalent pointer from c#. In c# I want it to operate on a: UInt32 data[] //my c# object i want to be able to pass in but how do I give an equivalent pointer in my wrapper? I have tried ref data //my attempt at giving an equivalent pointer to the DLL but that doesnt seem to be working. Using debug statements in the DLL I can see that the values it gets that way are not what I'm attempting to pass in. So my question boils down to have do I properly wrap a c fuction that is using a pointer to reference an array?

• Are bit operations quick?

  I'm dealing with a problem which needs to work with a lot of data. Currently its' values are represented as unsigned int. I know that real values do not exceed some limit, say 1000. That means that I can use unsigned short to store it. One profit is that it'll use less space. Do I have to pay for it by loosing in performance? Another assumption. I decided to store data as short but all calling functions use int, so I need to convert between these datatypes when storing/extracting values. Wiil the performance lost be dramatic? Third assumption. Due to great wish to econom memory I decided to use not short but just 10 bits packed into array of unsigned int. What will happen in this case comparing with previous ones?

  I have this pseudo-code in java: bytes[] hash = MD5.hash("example"); String hexString = toHexString(hash); //This returns something like a0394dbe93f bytes[] hexBytes = hexString.getBytes("UTF-8"); Now, hexBytes[] and hash[] are different. I know I'm doing something wrong since hash.length() is 16 and hexBytes.length() is 32. Maybe it has something to do with java using Unicode for chars (just a wild guess here). Anyways, the question would be: how to get the original hash[] array from the hexString. • perl order of opendir return results?

  opendir MYDIR, "$dir"; my @FILES = readdir MYDIR; closedir MYDIR; It appears that 99.9 % of the time the first two entries in the array are always “.” and “..”. Later logic in the script has issues if it is not true. I ran into a case where the directory entries appeared later. Is this indicative of the file system being corrupt or something else? Is there a known order to what opendir returns?

  I am using a ToolStripComboBox to list some data. I am populating this combo with some custom objects: For Each obj As myObject In myObjectList myToolStripComboBox.Items.Add(obj) Next This works great except the text displayed in the combo is the name of the object class. I can understand why and realise that I need to do something to make the combo use a property from my class instead. The help files state: To add objects to the list at run time, assign an array of object references with the AddRange method. The list then displays the default string value for each object. You can add individual objects with the Add method. The bit in bold suggests I need to setup the default string value in my class. How would I go about doing this?

• What is a read only collection in C#?

  I ran a security code analyst i found myself having a CA2105 warning. I looked at the grade tampering example. I didnt realize you can assign int[] to a readonly int. I thought readonly was like the C++ const and makes it illegal. The How to Fix Violations suggest i clone the object (which i dont want to do) or 'Replace the array with a strongly typed collection that cannot be changed'. I clicked the link and see 'ArrayList' and adding each element one by one and it doesnt look like you can prevent something adding more. So when i have this piece of code what is the easiest or best way to make it a read only collection? public static readonly string[] example = { "a", "b", "sfsdg", "sdgfhf", "erfdgf", "last one"};

  Can someone tell me, when you for example update, insert, delete.. should you then close it like $stmt->close(); ? i checked php manual and don't understand what close() actually does. EXAMPLE: $stmt = $dbh->prepare("SELECT `user_email` FROM `users` WHERE `user_email` = ? LIMIT 1"); $stmt->execute(array($email)); $stmt->close(); Next part of my question is, if as an example i had multiple update queries in a transaction after every execute() for each query i am executing should i close them individually ? ... because it's a transaction not sure i need to use $stmt->close(); after each execute(); or just use one $stmt->close(); after all of them ?   I have a beagleboard with TMS320C64x+ DSP. I'm working on an image processing beagleboard application. Here's how it's going to work: The ARM reads an image from a file and put the image in a 2D array. The arm sends the matrix to the DSP. The DSP receives the matrix. The DSP performs the image processing algorithm on the received matrix (the algorithm code uses about 5MB of dynamically allocated memory). The DSP sends the processed image (matrix) to the ARM. The arm received the matrix. The arm saved the processed image to a file. I'v already written the code for steps 1,3,5. What is the easiest way to do steps 3+4 (sending the data)? Code examples are welcome.

  I use SPs and this isn't an SP vs code-behind "Build your SQL command" question. I'm looking for a high-throughput method for a backend app that handles many small transactions. I use SQLDataReader for most of the returns since forward only works in most cases for me. I've seen it done many ways, and used most of them myself. Methods that define and accept the stored procedure parameters as parameters themselves and build using cmd.Parameters.Add (with or without specifying the DB value type and/or length) Assembling your SP params and their values into an array or hashtable, then passing to a more abstract method that parses the collection and then runs cmd.Parameters.Add Classes that represent tables, initializing the class upon need, setting the public properties that represent the table fields, and calling methods like Save, Load, etc I'm sure there are others I've seen but can't think of at the moment as well. I'm open to all suggestions.

  I'm 99% sure that the answer is "no", but I'm wondering if someone who is 100% sure can say so. Consider a VBA UDF: Public Function f(x) End Function When you call this from the worksheet, 'x' will be a number, string, boolean, error, array, or object of type 'Range'. Can it ever be, say, an instance of 'Chart', 'ListObject', or any other Excel-VBA object model class? (The question arose from me moving to Excel 2007 and playing with Tables, and wondering if I could write UDFs that accept them as parameters instead of Ranges. The answer to that seems to be no, but then I realized I didn't know for sure in general.)
