• Can we you the attached properties in C# class library?

  Hi I have implemented the Observer Pattern with lazy load. The class that requests the data from the database is a singleton class. Now I am able to load the data from one database (located in one datacenter) very easily. But I need to get the data from other data centers too and display on the same UI. I can somehow pass the address of second data center and fetch the data from there also. But once I will get the data from second data center, it will be added to earlier list only. So later it will be thought for me to distinguish between the data. So I thought of attaching a property with the result set, so that while displaying the output I can show the data for both the data centers separately but on the same UI. I thought of attached property as an option where I can attach the data center name with the list of the data obtained. How is it possible to do in C#? Thanks Manas

• JAVA: 500 Worker Threads, what kind of thread pool?

  I am wondering if this is the best way to do this. I have about 500 threads that run indefinitely, but Thread.sleep for a minute when done one cycle of processing. ExecutorService es = Executors.newFixedThreadPool(list.size()+1); for (int i = 0; i < list.size(); i++) { es.execute(coreAppVector.elementAt(i)); //coreAppVector is a vector of extends thread objects } I do need a separate threads for each running task, so changing the architecture isn't an option. I tried making my threadPool size equal to Runtime.getRuntime().availableProcessors() which attempted to run all 500 threads, but only let 8 (4xhyperthreading) of them execute. The other threads wouldn't surrender and let other threads have their turn. I tried putting in a wait() and notify(), but still no luck. If anyone has a simple example or some tips, I would be grateful!

• ListViewGroup not sorting correctly

  I'm using a ListView control in a C# WinForms application. Items in the list are added to a ListViewGroup (in this case, grouping by country). The one thing that isn't working as expected is that the column sorting appears to be strange. I've hooked into the ListViewItemSorter property of the ListView and everything sorts perfectly except when the country column is sorted in descending order (that is, Z-A). Regardless of how the list sort occurs the groups show in ascending order. Can anyone give me a nudge in the right direction? EDIT: FWIW, .NET 3.5 on Vista.

  hi all, i need to clone an entire treeview to implement Undo\Redo actions. i try in different ways but it appears that directly isn't possible. I mean copying the entire treeview, save that copy in a list. Then when the Undo action is requested decrement a specific counter of levels of undo and replace the actual treeview with the treeview that exist in the index positions of the list. if I do redo the same happens but lvls is incremented so i recover what come next. Every time that a modifications occurs in the treeview i need to save that copy and increment the lvl counter

• Use LINQ to count the number of combinations existing in two lists

  I'm trying to create a LINQ query (or queries) that count the total number of occurences of a combinations of items in one list that exist in a different list. For example, take the following lists: CartItems DiscountItems ========= ============= AAA AAA AAA BBB AAA BBB BBB CCC CCC DDD The result of the query operation should be 2 since I can find two combinations of AAA and BBB (from DiscountItems) within the contents of CartItems. My thinking in approaching the query is to join the lists together to shorten CartItems to only include items from DiscountItems. The solution would be to find the CartItem in the resulting query that occurs the least amount of times, thus indicating how many combinations of items exist in CartItems. How can this be done? Here's the query I already have, but it's not working. query results in an enumeration with 100 items, far more than I expected.   I wanted to search through multiple rows and obtain the row that contains a particular item. The table in mySQL is setup so each id has a unique list (comma-delimited) of values per row. Ex: id | order 1 | 1,3,8,19,34,2,38 2 | 4,7,2,190,38 Now if I wanted to pull the row that contained just the number 19 how would I go about doing this? The possibilities I could figure in the list with a LIKE condition would be: 19, ,19 ,19, I tried the following and I cannot obtain any results, Thank you for your help! • ruby1.9.1 can't find installed gems, yet ruby1.8 can...

  On ubuntu here. I installed both ruby1.8 and ruby1.9.1. I also ran these commands ruby1.8 setup.rb ruby1.9.1 setup.rb Both worked fine, I was also able to install gems for both. The gems in gem 1.9.1 and gem1.8 both show up correctly for gem list. The problems however begin with this: ruby1.9.1 some_script.rb. It cannot find any of the gems. I tried uncommenting some out figuring that parseconfig was the problem, yet it couldn't find any of the others, which are definetly in gem1.9.1 list. Any thoughts as to what is causing this/how to recover?

  I am doing homework. I would like to build a base case for a recursion where ordering given numbers (list2) in ascending order. Purpose of writing this codes is that when all numbers are in ascending order then should stop calling a method called ascending(list2, list1); and all values in list2 should be shipped to list1. For instance, list2 = 6,5,4,3,2,1 then list2 becomes empty and list1 should be 1,2,3,4,5,6. I am trying to compare result with previous one and if matches then stop. But I can't find the base case to stop it. In addition, Both ascending() and fixedPoint() are void method. Anybody has idea? lol Took me 3 days... • Question about when and when not to raise events (C#)

  I am programming an instant messaging library for MSN Messenger, and I have a simple question about raising events. When logging in, should I be raising UserAdded for each user that is synchronized (already on the contact list), or should the UserAdded event be reserved for when a new user has been added to the contact list via the AddUser method? Should I perhaps use another event, UserDownloaded for when a user is downloaded? Similarly, when I call logout, should I call UserRemoved? I hope this makes sense. Thank you

  I know this has been asked multiple times before, but I've tried those things and still am not having any luck. For the mechanize gem, I keep getting the "Missing these required gems" error when I run db:migrate on my production server.   In our application there's a list of customers, and a list of keywords (among other things). Each customer can have a number of keywords, but it's not mandatory. So for instance, one customer can have the keywords "retail" and "chain", one can have only "contractor" and a third can have none at all. I want to let the user make a selection of customers based on these keywords, but not having to write (retail AND chain) or contractor and not wholesale I would like to make it as user-friendly as possible, and ideally with only "simple" controls, like checkboxes, comboboxes etc. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to design this? Or maybe some examples of applications where there are similar functionality?

• Jquery javascript - How can I let users 'undo' their modifications?

  Hi, i have a basic jquery app that allows a user to edit and manipulate some lists on a page. What I would like to do is have a button 'restore original list' that the user can press to undo his modifications. What is the best way to do this? I was thinking of just copying the DOM from the list down, and pasting it in a hidden element someplace else on the page. Is this the best way to do this? I also noticed that jquery has a .data() function which I could use if I converted the data to an array and stored it this way. What are the advantages and disadvantages? Also, I'm open to any suggestions people have if there is some method I haven't thought of. Thanks for your help!

What's the fastest way to find out if a given localNode is a producer for another localnode in the data structure (and not within the same list)? For example, I would like to know that nA (node-17) produces for nC (exists on node-16). But I don't need to know that nB produces for nC, since they exist in the same localNodes list.

The issue is that when I call users.Except(matches) The matching users are not being excluded at all! I am expecting 6 users ut "excludes" contains all 8 users instead. Since all I'm doing in GetMatchingUsers(IEnumerable users) is taking the IEnumerable and just returning the IUsers whose ID's match( 2 IUsers in this case), my understanding is that by default "Except" will use reference equality for comparing the objects to be excluded. Is this not how "Except" behaves? What is even more interesting is that if I materialize the objects using .ToList() and then get the matching users, and call "Except", everything works as expected! Like so: IEnumerable users = doc.Element("Users").Elements("User").Select (u = new User { ID = (int)u.Attribute("id"), Name = (string)u.Attribute("name") } ).OfType().ToList(); //explicity materializing all objects by calling ToList() var matches = User.GetMatchingUsers(users); var excludes = users.Except(matches); // excludes now contains 6 users as expected I don't see why I should need to materialize objects for calling "Except" given that its defined on IEnumerable?   Hey there. I have a c# application that parses txt files and imports the data from them into a sql db. I was using sqlite and am now working on porting it to sql server. It was working fine with sqlite but now with sql i am getting an error when it is processing the files. • UINavigationController crashes after pushing 3 views onto stack

  I have a navigation controller, which has the following structure: Category Item Item Detail I can choose a category, and then choose an item to see its details. I can do this twice, i.e. go Back to the list of items and select another item. If i try this a third time, the app crashes, I get objc_msgSend in stack but thats all. But, instead of choosing another item, i go to the list of categories, and choose a different category, I can select two items in that category, before it crashes also. What would be causing this? • How to generate a report of IIS settings for easy perusal?

  Hello, I'm looking for a way to (hopefully) create a text file which lists all the settings in IIS for.. Virtual Directories Web sites Which framework is used on a certain website/directory directory of hosted files etc. Basically I want to do some investigation on some of our servers to figure out where certain projects are located, without digging through right clicking and looking for the directory name manually, etc, for every domain we host. The reasoning is that I often need to find access to files/projects I haven't worked on before, but historically, we don't have a strong naming scheme, so you can't just look where something "logically" would be - so, generating a list would be very helpful. Something like this would be awesome, but I'm looking for any tips at all Domainname1.com framework: ASP.NET 1.1 directory: c:\inetpub\wwwroot\domainname1.com Applications hosted at this domain: etc, etc. Plain text, XLS, XML.. anything other than right clicking through the whole list!
