  • Rich Snippets - LocalBusiness - Photos - Correct Implementation

    Does somebody know, how this is supposed to be implemented correctly? In my local business full page, I have a carousel with several images, so what I did is that on the container of this carousel i have written the following: "itemprop='photos' itemscope itemtype="http://schema.org/ImageObject"", i.e. <div class="tourism-product-media-gallery" itemprop='photos' itemscope itemtype="http://schema.org/ImageObject"> and then on each and every image i have written the following: "itemprop="contentURL"", i.e. <img src="@mediaItem.NormalImage" alt="@mediaItemCaption" itemprop="contentURL"/> But i am not convinced that this is the way it should be.     I am having problems implementing the breadcrumb rich snippets from schema.org.   • Does the keyword blog in url impove seo?

    I have seen a couple of site which has high number of hits. They are mostly tutorial sites and blogs that address software issue/errors. I wonder if the kewybord "blog" has a very positive effect in SEO? In my own site, I have install word press in root folder to avoid any blog keyword. I also did this to keep urls shallow (deeper url are not good for SEO). But I may want to think on it again. The sites I am referring too are http://blog.sqlauthority.com http://veerasundar.com/blog/2011/11/making-xampp-to-serve-any-directory-outside-htdocs/ I know there are standard (sort of) class names or ID that identify different contents and makes it easier for the search engine to identify contents like, "container", "menu". The use of word "blog" would mean this is about dicussing/tutoring something and have a very positive effect on SEO?

  • Does the deprecation of mysql_* functions in PHP carry over to other Databases(MSSQL)?

    I'm not talking about MySQL, I'm talking about Microsoft SQL Server I've been aware of PDO for quite some time now, standard mysql functions are dangerous and should be avoided. http://php.net/manual/en/function.mysql-connect.php But what about the MSSQL function in PHP? They are, for most purposes, identical sets of functions, but the PHP page describing mssql_* carries no warning of deprecation. http://us.php.net/manual/en/function.mssql-connect.php There are PDO drivers available for MSSQL, but they aren't quite as readily available or used as the MySQL drivers. Ideally, it looks to me like I should get them working and move from mssql_* to PDO like I have with MySQL, but is it as big of a priority? Is there some hidden safety to MSSQL that means it's exempt from all of the mysql_* hatred as of late? Or is its obscurity as a backend the only reason there hasn't been more PDO encouragement?

    I have a website that has an SSL certificate installed, so that if I access the website using https instead of http I will be able to connect using a secure connection. However, I have noticed that I can still access the website non-securely, ie. by using http instead of https. How can I prevent people using the website in a non-secure manner? If I have a directory on the website, eg. samples/, can I prevent non-secure connections to just this directory?

  • Ubuntu 11.10 doesn't detect Intel integrated graphics (i7-2670QM CPU)

    The laptop I'm using is an MSI GT683DX-847PT that comes with an NVIDIA GeForce GTX570M discrete GPU, and an Intel Core i7-2670QM CPU. According to Intel's description of the Core i7-2670QM CPU, it has an HD Graphics 3000 integrated GPU. The problem is that the Intel integrated graphics GPU doesn't come up in lspci nor in lshw, only the NVIDIA GPU shows up. Here is the output of both commands: sudo lspci: http://pastebin.com/raw.php?i=9AZg8bJy sudo lshw: http://pastebin.com/raw.php?i=6cAMFQsY I was counting on having two GPU's to run CUDA programs on the discrete NVIDIA GPU, while X was handled by the integrated Intel GPU, to prevent kernel execution timeout. Why doesn't the Intel HD Graphics 3000 GPU show up? Any tests I could make to verify the presence of an integrated GPU?

    My Laptop was working just fine a day back but it started show the following error on booting: error: couldn't read file So, I googled about it and used a Live-CD to use Boot-Repair as told here: "can't read file" error after installation causes system to not boot I was given this link: http://paste.ubuntu.com/1441528/ if there are issues still.     If i have lots of images appearing tumblr blogs, the sort of tumblogs with very little text just reams and reams of images for people to browse through (example - http://whereisthecool.com/). If my image is embeded in their site like this : <a href="http://mysite.com" target="blank"> <img src="cutecatblog.com/cat.jpg" alt="cute cat"/> </a> so the image was a link back to my site. Although there is no anchor text to speak of does google take into account the alt text of the image ? Would this still count in googles eyes as a backlink ?

    We are currently deciding on a consistent naming convention across a site with multiple web applications. Historically, I've been an advocate of the 'lowercase all the letters!' when creating URLs: http://example.com/mysystem/account/view/1551 However, within the last year or two, specifically since I began using ASP.NET MVC & had more dealings with REST based URLs, I've become a fan of capitalizing the first letter of each section/word within the URL as it makes it easier to read (imho). http://example.com/MySystem/Account/View/1551 We're not in a situation where people need to read or be able to understand the URLs, so that's not a driver per se. The main thing we are after is a consistent approach that is rational and makes sense. Are there any standards that declare it good to do one way or another, or issues that we may run into on (at least realistically modern) setups that would choose a preference over another? What is the general consensus for this debate currently?

There is a link on the individual page to the list view. We want to index in google for the term Abelia chinensis. My question revolves around the list view and its impact on SEO. Should we prevent google from indexing the list view? Should we put a no follow on the link to the list view to prevent us from losing link 'juice' to a page that is really on for navigation/

    I am trying to set up Redmine as a subdirectory of our department's intranet site, and also to rebrand it as "Workflow" using IIS's URL Rewrite extension. I have it "working" in that it will serve the page with all the correct rewrites in both the URL and the HTML code. However, when I try to submit a form (including logging in to redmine), IIS gives me one of the the following errors: Your browser sent a request that this server could not understand. or The specified CGI application encountered an error and the server terminated the process.     I'm using 3DS Max 2010 with the KW x-porter plugin, which outputs a .X file (just downloaded the very latest version). Note, that models I make in Milkshape don't seem to be having these problems. I've also tried to export an FBX file from 3DS Max 2010 and have been getting similar results. What are your suggestions in terms of exporting *.3DS models to a workable XNA form? What tools do you use?.     I'm trying to hack the css files on OSTicket by replacing them with my own custom ones when a specific URL is accessed. The URL that is accessed for this example is http://osticket.cts/helpdesk/scp/css/main.css and I would like it to use the css file at http://osticket.cts/test.css why won't this .htaccess file (in web root, not /helpdesk/scp/) work? Is there an easy way to debug these rules, some way to find out what apache did when the URL was accessed and where it's failing? error.log doesn't show anything useful.   • Including Specific Characters with Google Web Fonts

    I'm using the Open Sans web font from Google Web Fonts on my website. I only need the basic latin subset, but I do use the Psi (?) character quite often as well and I would like to use the Open Sans version of that character, without having to include the entire greek subset. I looked at this help page which shows how to embed specific characters only using the text parameter, but there's no mention of including specific characters.   • Expanding your home directory size

    I would like to copy or expand my /home directory ... All tutorials talks about moving the home directory from a partition to another but the problem that I only have one partition that was more than 300 gigs (before I resize it and create a new partition) although I see 30 Gigs only on my home directory (4 Gigs left :( ) I resized it and created a new partition as you can see in the next image I've tried booting from Ubuntu live CD and from a USB and what I can see in Gparted is exactly as in the picture below I would like to move my home directory to the new partition of expand it.
