• Pre Commit Hook for JSLint in Mercurial and Git

  I want to run JSLint before a commit into either a Mercurial or Git repo is done. I want this as an automatic step that is set up instead of relying on the developer (mainly me) remembering to run JSLint before-hand. I normally run JSLint while developing, but want to specify a contract on JS files that they pass JSLint before being committed to the repo. For Mercurial, this page spells out the precommit syntax, but the only variables that seem to be available are the parent1 and parent2 changeset IDs involved in the commit. What I really want are a list of file names that are involved with the commit, so that I can then choose the .js file and run jslint over them. Similar issue for GIT, the default info available as part of the precommit script seems limited. What might work is calling hg status/git status as part of the precommit script, parse that output to find JS files then do the work that way. I was hoping for something easier though, and I am not sure if calling status as part of a precommit hook reflect the correct information. For instance in Git if the changes files have not been added yet, but the git commit uses -a, would the files show up in the correct section of the git status output as being part of the commit set? • Guidelines for using Merge task in SSIS

  I have a table with three fields, one an identity field, and I need to add some new records from a source that has the other two fields. I'm using SSIS, and I think I should use the merge tool, because one of the sources is not in the local database. But, I'm confused by the merge tool and the proper process. I have my one source (an Oracle table), and I get two fields, well_id and well_name, with a sort after, sorting by well_id. I have the destination table (sql server), and I'm also using that as a source. It has three fields: well_key (identity field), well_id, and well_name, and I then have a sort task, sorting on well_id. Both of those are input to my merge task. I was going to output to a temporary table, and then somehow get the new records back into the sql server table. Oracle Well SQL Well | | V V Sort Source Sort Well | | -------> Merge* <----------- | V Temp well table I suspect this isn't the best way to use this tool, however. What are the proper steps for a merge like this? One of my reasons for questioning this method is that my merge has an error, telling me that the "Merge Input 2" must be sorted, but its source is a sort task, so it IS sorted.   Partials in XML builder are proving to be non-trivial. After some initial Google searching, I found the following to work, although it's not 100% xml.foo do xml.id(foo.id) xml.created_at(foo.created_at) xml.last_updated(foo.updated_at) foo.bars.each do |bar| xml << render(:partial => 'bar/_bar', :locals => { :bar => bar }) end end this will do the trick, except the XML output is not properly indented. the output looks something similar to: <foo> <id>1</id> <created_at>sometime</created_at> <last_updated>sometime</last_updated> <bar> ... </bar> <bar> ... </bar> </foo> The <bar> element should align underneath the <last_updated> element, it is a child of <foo> like this: <foo> <id>1</id> <created_at>sometime</created_at> <last_updated>sometime</last_updated> <bar> ... </bar> <bar> ... </bar> </foo> Works great if I copy the content from bar/_bar.xml.builder into the template, but then things just aren't DRY.

  Hi, I have a table in an ASP.NET MVC2 form. On each row in the table there is a checkbox. Underneath the table there is a submitbutton. • Program and debugger quit without indication of problem

  OK, not quite a Heisenbug but similar in nature. I'm developing a WPF application. When debugging, the logic reaches a certain point, then the application quits for no reason. VS debugger catches nothing and the only indication of a problem is the following in the output window: The program '[6228] SomeApp.vshost.exe: Managed (v4.0.30319)' has exited with code 1073741855 (0x4000001f). When debugging the release version, or indeed running the debug build out of the debugger (in fact all combos that aren't running the debug version in debugger), everything works fine. I'm trying to catch unhandled exceptions with the following code: AppDomain .CurrentDomain .UnhandledException += (sender, e) => { Debug.WriteLine("Unhandled Exception " + e.ExceptionObject); }; Application .Current .DispatcherUnhandledException += (sender1, e1) => { Debug.WriteLine("DispatcherUnhandledException " + e1.Exception); }; ...but I'm not catching anything. I'm considering peppering the app with debug output statements, but it's highly asynchronous so reading this will be both arduous and tedious. So tell me, if you can... how do I start figuring WTF is going on?

• OpenSSL.NET can't export private key with null Cipher

  I've recently discovered OpenSSL.NET and it's a pretty sweet little wrapper. I'm trying to execute the following code: public static void DoSomething(byte[] buf) { OpenSSL.Core.BIO input = new OpenSSL.Core.BIO(buf); OpenSSL.X509.X509Certificate b = OpenSSL.X509.X509Certificate.FromPKCS12(input, "passphrase"); OpenSSL.Core.BIO outs = OpenSSL.Core.BIO.MemoryBuffer(false); b.PrivateKey.WritePrivateKey(outs, OpenSSL.Crypto.Cipher.Null, "passphrase"); outs.SetClose(OpenSSL.Core.BIO.CloseOption.Close); Console.WriteLine(outs.ReadString()); } Problem comes at the "b.PrivateKey.WritePrivateKey(.." line. I want to write the private key out without any encryption. According to spec, if I use a Null cipher type this should do the trick, but it never works, regardless of the cert I use in buf. Here's the exception: error:0D0A706C:asn1 encoding routines:PKCS5_pbe2_set:cipher has no object identifier error:2307D00D:PKCS12 routines:PKCS8_encrypt:ASN1 lib I know this part works fine because if I specify any other cipher type, it exports the private key without fail. Anyone have any suggestions?

• Writing tests for Rails plugins

  I'm working on a plugin for Rails that would add limited in-memory caching to ActiveRecord's finders. The functionality itself is mature enough, but I can't for the life of me get unit tests to work with the plugin. I now have under vendor/plugins/my_plugin/test/my_plugin_test.rb a standard subclass of ActiveSupport::TestCase with a couple of basic tests. I try running 'rake test' from the plugin directory, and I have confirmed that this task loads the ruby file with the test case, but it doesn't actually run any of the tests. I followed the Rails plugin guide (http://guides.rubyonrails.org/plugins.html) where applicable, but it seems to be horribly outdated (it suggests things that Rails now do automatically, etc.) The only output I get is this: Kakadu:ingenious_record adam$ rake test (in /Users/adam/Sites/1_PRK/vendor/plugins/ingenious_record) /System/Library/Frameworks/Ruby.framework/Versions/1.8/usr/bin/ruby -Ilib:lib:test "/System/Library/Frameworks/Ruby.framework/Versions/1.8/usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/rake-0.8.3/lib/rake/rake_test_loader.rb" "test/ingenious_record_test.rb" The simplest test case looks like this: require 'test_helper' require 'active_record' class IngeniousRecordTest < ActiveSupport::TestCase test "example" do assert false end end This should definitely produce at least some output, and the only test in that file should produce a failed assertion. Any ideas what I could do to get Rails to run my tests?

  Here's a simple gunit test for a portion of my tree grammar which generates a flat list of nodes: objectOption walks objectOption: <<one:"value">> -> (one "value") Although you define a tree in ANTLR's rewrite syntax using a caret (i.e. ^(ROOT child...)), gunit matches trees without the caret, so the above represents a tree and it's not surprising that it fails: it's a flat list of nodes and not a tree. This results in a test failure: 1 failures found: test2 (objectOption walks objectOption, line17) - expected: (one \"value\") actual: one \"value\" Another option which seems intuitive is to leave off the parenthesis, like this: objectOption walks objectOption: <<one:"value">> -> one "value" But gunit doesn't like this syntax. It seems to result in a parse failure in the gunit grammar: line 17:20 no viable alternative at input 'one' line 17:24 missing ':' at 'value' line 0:-1 no viable alternative at input '<EOF>' java.lang.NullPointerException at org.antlr.gunit.OutputTest.getExpected(OutputTest.java:65) at org.antlr.gunit.gUnitExecutor.executeTests(gUnitExecutor.java:245) ... • Delphi SAPI Text-To-Speech

  First of all: this is not a duplicate of http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1021490/delphi-and-sapi. I have a specific problem with the "SAPI in Delphi" subject. I have used the excellent Import Type-Library guide in Delphi 2009 to get a TSpVoice component in the component palette. This works great. With var SpVoice: TSpVoice; I can write SpVoice.Speak('This is an example.', 1); to get asynchronous audio output. First question According to the documentation, I would be able to write SpVoice.Speak('This is an example.', 0); to get synchronous audio output, but instead I get an EZeroDivide exception. Why's that? Second question But more importantly, I would like to be able to create the SpVoice object dynamically (I think this is called to "late-bound" the SpVoice object), partly because only a very small fraction of all sessions of my app will use it, and partly because I do not want to assume the existance of the SAPI server on the end-user's system. To this end, I tried procedure TForm1.FormClick(Sender: TObject); var SpVoice: Variant; begin SpVoice := CreateOleObject('SAPI.SpVoice'); SpVoice.Speak('this is a test', 0); end; which apparently does nothing at all! (Replacing the 0 with 1 gives me the EZeroDivide exception.) Disclaimer I am rather new to COM/OLE automation. I am sorry for any ignorance or stupidity shown by me in this post...

• JavaScript variable to ColdFusion variable

  I have a tricky one. By means of a <cfoutput query="…"> I list some records in the page from a SQL Server database. By the end of each line viewing I try to add this in to a record in a MySQL database. As you see is simple, because I can use the exact variables from the output query in to my new INSERT INTO statement. BUT: the rsPick.name comes from a database with a different character set and the only way to get it right into my new database is to read it from the web page and not from the value came in the output query. • Flex, Ant, mxmlc and conditional compilation

  My ActionScript project builds with several compile-time specified constants. They are all Booleans, and only one of them is true at any given time. The rest must be false. When I represented my build process in a bash script, I could loop through the names of all these constants, set one of them to be true and the rest to be false, then concatenate them onto a string to be inserted as a set of arguments passed to mxmlc. In Ant, looping is more complicated. I've tried the ant-contrib for tag: <mxmlc file='blah' output='blah'> <!- ... -> <for list='${commaSeparatedListOfConstNames}' param='constName'> <sequential> <define> <name>${constName}</name> <value>${constName} == ${theTrueConst}</value> <!-- (mxmlc's define arguments can be strings that are evaluated at compile time) --> </define> </sequential> </for> </mxmlc> Long story short, ant-contrib tags like the for tag can't go in the mxmlc task. So now I'm using Ant's propertyregex to take my list of arguments and format them into a set of define args, like my old bash script: <propertyregex property='defLine.first' override='false' input='${commaSeparatedListOfConstNames}' regexp='([^\|]+)\,' replace='\1,false ' /> <propertyregex property='defLine.final' input='${defLine.first}' regexp='(@{theTrueConst}\,)false' replace='\1true' /> <!-- result: -define+=CONST_ONE,false -define+=CONST_TWO,false -define+=TRUE_CONST,true --> Now my problem is, what can I do with this mxmlc argument and the mxmlc task? (maybe because it expected a IList<) So, my question is: Does anybody know why the type of my IList< is an array after deserializing and why I can't serialize my Team object any longer after that? Because the update model values phase is not called , the values entered by the user is never set the the Bean1 and the original value is shown in the textbox after reRender . So I want to ask: How can I manually call the update model values phase inside Bean1.onSelectOneMenuChange() ?How can I get the value input input by the users inside Bean1.onSelectOneMenuChange() and set it to the corresponding fields of the Bean1 ? 2.Another approach is that only reRender those textbox whose values are updated inside the Bean1.onSelectOneMenuChange() .However , there are many cases . For example , a value will change all the textbox value and a values may only change some textbox value.How can I reRender conditionally ? What method is more prefer for maintainability?

• Median Filter a bi-level image with JAI

  I'd like to apply a Median Filter to a bi-level image and output a bi-level image. The JAI median filter seems to output an RGB image, which I'm having trouble downconverting back to bi-level. Currently I can't even get the image back into gray color-space, my code looks like this: BufferedImage src; // contains a bi-level image ParameterBlock pb = new ParameterBlock(); pb.addSource(src); pb.add(MedianFilterDescriptor.MEDIAN_MASK_SQUARE); pb.add(3); RenderedOp result = JAI.create("MedianFilter", pb); ParameterBlock pb2 = new ParameterBlock(); pb2.addSource(result); pb2.add(new double[][]{{0.33, 0.34, 0.33, 0}}); RenderedOp grayResult = JAI.create("BandCombine", pb2); BufferedImage foo = grayResult.getAsBufferedImage(); This code hangs on the grayResult line and appears not to return. I assume that I'll eventually need to call the "Binarize" operation in JAI. Edit: Actually, the code appears to be stalling once I call getAsBufferedImage(), but returns nearly instantly when the second operation ("BandCombine") is removed. Is there a better way to keep the Median Filtering in the source color domain? If not, how do I downconvert back to binary?

• Using Unicode in fancyvrb’s VerbatimOut

  Problem VerbatimOut from the “fancyvrb” package doesn’t play nicely with UTF-8 characters. Minimal working example: \documentclass{minimal} \usepackage[utf8]{inputenc} \usepackage[T1]{fontenc} \usepackage{fancyvrb} \begin{document} \begin{VerbatimOut}{\jobname.test} é \end{VerbatimOut} \input{\jobname.test} \end{document} Error message When compiled using pdflatex mini, this gives the error File ended while scanning use of \UTFviii@three@octets. A different error occurs when the sole occurrence of é above is replaced by something else, e.g. é */: Package inputenc Error: Unicode char \u8:### not set up for use with LaTeX. – indicating that in this case, LaTeX succeeds in reading a multi-byte UTF-8 character, but not knowing what to do with it (i.e. it’s the wrong character). In fact, when I open the produced .test file manually, it contains the character é, but in Latin-1 encoding! Proof: when I open the files in a hex editor, I get the following: Original file: C3 A9 (corresponds to LATIN SMALL LETTER E WITH ACUTE in UTF-8) Written file: E9 (corresponds to é in Latin-1) Question How to set VerbatimOut up correctly? filecontents* (from “filecontents”) shows that it can work. Unfortunately, I don’t understand either code so I cannot fix fancyvrb’s code by replicating the logic from filecontents manually. I also cannot use filecontents* instead of VerbatimOut because the former doesn’t work within a \newenvironment, while the latter does. (Oh, by the way: vanilla Verbatim instead of VerbatimOut also works as expected. The error seems to occur when writing the file, not when reading the verbatim input)
