I am trying to make some enhancements to a production web app. After quite a bit of unit testing on my WinXP IIS 5.1 development machine, everything works on my localhost so I used the Visual Studio 2008 PUBLISH dialog on my Dev PC to push the following projects to a staging server: the primary web app the "primary" webservice (the home page tries to invoke this WS) a "secondary" webservice (not yet a problem because home page does not invoke this WS) I get the following when I try to browse to the home page of the web app typing this into my browser: link text Server Error in '/zVersion2' Application. The staging server is Win Server 2003 ServicePack 2 running IIS 6.0. When I published the primary site and the 2 webservices on the staging server called MOJITO I created the physical directories for each on the D drive. Then using INETMGR, I configured the following virtual directories: zVersion2 zVersion2wsSQL zVersion2wsEmergency All of the above are configured to use a new application pool I setup and named zVersion2aspNet20. The default web site for this machine MOJITO is configured to use ASP.NET 1.1 and the IP address is set to (All Unassigned). The production versions of the latter 2 webservices run on the MOJITO machine (named ZipeeeService and EmergencyService respectively). Can my staging versions of the above webservices (named zVersion2wsSQL and zVersion2wsEmergency respectively) co-exist on the same web server with the same IP address? Please note that when I test the zVersion2wsSQL webservice independently (from INETMGR right-mouse and click Browse) it works as expected (i.e. presenting all the methods of the webservice) like this snippet: GetMessageByType MessageName="Get_x0020_Message_x0020_By_x0020_Type" I can test this webmethod by clicking on it and it presents the Test dialog (because it takes a simple datatype and I am invoking it on localhost (i.e. MOJITO): **Get Message By Type** **Test** To test the operation using the HTTP POST protocol, click the 'Invoke' button. Parameter Value iMsgType: _______ [INVOKE button] SOAP 1.1 ....etc. I fear I may have rambled with too much information so I will stop but I hope someone can help me as I cannot understand why this request results in a "not found". Entity Framework + AutoMapper ( Entity to DTO and DTO to Entity )

WPF derived ComboBox SelectedValuePath issue

In our application we have a very large set of data that acts as our data dictionary for ComboBox lists, etc. This data is staticly cached and keyed off of 2 variables, so I thought it wise to write a control that derived from ComboBox and exposed the 2 keys as DPs. When those 2 keys have proper values I set the ItemsSource of the ComboBox automatically from the data dictionary list it corresponds to. I also automatically set the SelectedValuePath and DisplayMemberPath to Code and Description, respectively. Here's how an example of how an item in the ItemsSource from the data dictionary list always looks: public class DataDictionaryItem { public string Code { get; set; } public string Description { get; set; } public string Code3 { get { return this.Get.Substring(0, 3); } } } The value of Code is always 4 bytes long, but sometimes I only need to bind 3 bytes of it. Hence, the Code3 property. Here's how the code looks inside my custom combobox to set the ItemsSource: private static void SetItemsSource(CustomComboBox combo) { if (string.IsNullOrEmpty(combo.Key1) || string.IsNullOrEmpty(combo.Key2)) { combo.ItemsSource = null; return; } List<DataDictionaryItem> list = GetDataDictionaryList(combo.Key1, combo.Key2); combo.ItemsSource = list; } Now, my problem is, when I change the SelectedValuePath in the XAML to Code3, it doesn't work. What I bind to SelectedValue still gets the full 4 character Code from DataDictionaryItem. I even tried rerunning SetItemsSource when the SelectedValuePath was changed and no dice. Can anyone see what I need to do to get my custom combobox to wake up and use the SelectedValuePath provided if it's overridden in the XAML? Tweaking the value in the property setter in my SelectedValue bound business object is not an option.

Suppress Null Value Types from Being Emitted by XmlSerializer

Please consider the following Amount value type property which is marked as a nullable XmlElement: [XmlElement(IsNullable=true)] public double? Amount { get ; set ; } When a nullable value type is set to null, the C# XmlSerializer result looks like the following: <amount xsi:nil="true" /> Rather than emitting this element, I would like the XmlSerializer to suppress the element completely. Why? We're using Authorize.NET for online payments and Authorize.NET rejects the request if this null element exists. The current solution/workaround is to not serialize the Amount value type property at all. Instead we have created a complementary property, SerializableAmount, which is based on Amount and is serialized instead. Since SerializableAmount is of type String, which like reference types are suppressed by the XmlSerializer if null by default, everything works great. /// <summary> /// Gets or sets the amount. /// </summary> [XmlIgnore] public double? How to use Excel VBA to extract Memo field from Access Database?

I have an Excel spreadsheet. I am connecting to an Access database via ODBC. Something along then lines of: Set dbEng = CreateObject("DAO.DBEngine.40") Set oWspc = dbEng.CreateWorkspace("ODBCWspc", "", "", dbUseODBC) Set oConn = oWspc.OpenConnection("Connection", , True, "ODBC;DSN=CLIENTDB;") Then I use a query and fetch a result set to get some table data. Set oQuery = oConn.CreateQueryDef("tmpQuery") oQuery.Sql = "SELECT idField, memoField FROM myTable" Set oRs = oQuery.OpenRecordset The problem now arises. My field is a dbMemo because the maximum content length is up to a few hundred chars. It's not that long, and in fact the value I'm reading is only a dozen characters. But Excel just doesn't seem able to handle the Memo field content at all. My code... ActiveCell = oRs.Fields("memoField") ...gives error Run-time error '3146': ODBC--call failed. Any suggestions? Can Excel VBA actually get at memo field data? Or is it just completely impossible. I get exactly the same error from GetChunk as well. ActiveCell = oRs.Fields("memoField").GetChunk(0, 2) ...also gives error Run-time error '3146': ODBC--call failed. Converting to a text field makes everything work fine. However some data is truncated to 255 characters of course, which means that isn't a workable solution.

nhibernate will not cascade delete childs

The scenario is as follows, I have 3 objects (i simplified the names) named Parent, parent's child & child's child parent's child is a set in parent, and child's child is a set in child. mapping is as follows (relevant parts) parent <set name="parentset" table="pc-table" lazy="false" fetch="subselect" cascade="all-delete-orphan" inverse="true"> <key column=FK_ID_PC" on-delete="cascade"/> <one-to-many class="parentchild,parentchild-ns"/> </set> parent's child <set name="childset" table="cc-table" lazy="false" fetch="subselect" cascade="all-delete-orphan" inverse="true"> <key column="FK_ID_CC" on-delete="cascade"/> <one-to-many class="childschild,childschild-ns"/> </set> What i want to achieve is that when i delete the parent, there would be a cascade delete all the way trough to child's child. But what currently happens is this. (this is purely for mapping test purposes) getting a parent entity (works fine) IQuery query = session.CreateQuery("from Parent where ID =" + ID); IParent doc = query.UniqueResult<Parent>(); now the delete part session.Delete(doc); transaction.Commit(); After having solved the 'cannot insert null value' error with cascading and inverse i hopes this would now delete everything with this code, but only the parent is being deleted. Did i miss something in my mapping which is likely to be missed? Any hint in the right direction is more than welcome!

Compare base class part of sub class instance to another base class instance

I have number of DTO classes in a system. They are organized in an inheritance hierarchy. class Person { public int Id { get; set; } public string FirstName { get; set; } public string ListName { get; set; } } class PersonDetailed : Person { public string WorkPhone { get; set; } public string HomePhone { get; set; } public byte[] Image { get; set; } } The reason for splitting it up is to be able to get a list of people for e.g. search results, without having to drag the heavy image and phone numbers along. Then the full PersonDetail DTO is loaded when the details for one person is selected. The problem I have run into is comparing these when writing unit tests. Assume I have Person p1 = myService.GetAPerson(); PersonDetailed p2 = myService.GetAPersonDetailed(); // How do I compare the base class part of p2 to p1? Assert.AreEqual(p1, p2); The Assert above will fail, as p1 and p2 are different classes. Is it possible to somehow only compare the base class part of p2 to p1? Should I implement IEquatable<> on Person? Other suggestions?

WCF Datacontract, some fields do not deserialize

Problem: I have a WCF service setup to be an endpoint for a call from an external system. The call is sending plain xml. I am testing the system by sending calls into the service from Fiddler using the RequestBuilder. The issue is that all of my fields are being deserialized with the exception of two fields. price_retail and price_wholesale. What am I missing? All of the other fields deserialize without an issue - the service responds. It is just these fields. Usercontrol losing Viewstate across Postback

I have a user control which uses objects as inner properties (some code is below). I am having trouble with setting the attribute of the Step class programmatically, when set programmatically it is being lost across postback which would indicate something to do with Viewstate (?). When setting the property of the Step class declaratively it's working fine. I'm trying to validate a class decorated with dataannotation with the Validator class. It works fine when the attributes are applied to the same class. But when I try to use a metadata class it doesn't work. Is there anything I should do with the Validator so it uses the metadata class? Token replacement

Hey, I currently have a system on my website whereby I can put something like "[cfe]" anywhere in the site and, when the page is rendered, it will replace it with the root to the customer front end (same for "[afe]" and admin front end - so in the admin front end I can put "[cfe]/Default.aspx" to link to the homepage on the customer front end. This is in place as I have a development version of the site, then a test and a live version too. All 3 may have different roots to each section (for example the way the website is set up, the root to the admin front end in test is "/test/Administration/", but in live and development it is just "/Administration/"). Which version it is depends on the URL - all my development sites are in a folder called "development", whereas test is in a folder called "test" and any live urls do not contain either of these. There are also 3 different databases - one for each. All 3, obviously, require a different connection string. I also have a string replacement function in place which can change, for example, "[Product:Cards]" to point to the Cards catalogue page. Problem is that for this I go through all the products and do a replacement on "[Product:" & Product.Name() & "]". However I would like to take this further. I would like to pick up these custom strings when the page is rendered so it picks up "[Product:Cards]" and then goes off to find product "Cards" and replaces the string with a link to the Cards page, rather than looping through all the products and doing a replace just on the off chance that there are any replacements to make. One use for this, which I may start using in the future if I can figure out how to do this, is like on Wikipedia where you put the title of the page you want to point to, then a divider (think its a pipe from memory) then the link text. I would like to apply this to the above situation. This way broken links can also be picked up, and reported to admin (a major advantage as they can then locate them and remove the link or add the product / page that it refers to). I would like to take this to the stage where content of entire pages can be rearranged (kinda like web parts, but not as advanced as that). I mean like so you can put [layout type="3columnImageTopRight" image="imageurl"]Content here[/layout]. This will display, as specified, an image in the top right (with padding at the left and bottom) and 3 columns - maybe with the image spanning one or two columns). The imageurl can be specified as another token: maybe like [Image:imagename.gif] or something. This replaces it with the root to the image folder and then the specified filename. I have not really looked into how I am going to split the content into 3 columns yet, but this would be something to look at for my dissertation and then implement after my project deadline at least. Does anyone have any ideas or pointers which could help me with this? Also if this is not strictly token replacement then please point me to what it is, so I can further develop this. Why does IHttpAsyncHandler leak memory under load?

I have noticed that the .NET IHttpAsyncHandler (and the IHttpHandler, to a lesser degree) leak memory when subjected to concurrent web requests. In my tests, the development web server (Cassini) jumps from 6MB memory to over 100MB, and once the test is finished, none of it is reclaimed. The problem can be reproduced easily. Create a new solution (LeakyHandler) with two projects: An ASP.NET web application (LeakyHandler.WebApp) A Console application (LeakyHandler.ConsoleApp) In LeakyHandler.WebApp: Create a class called TestHandler that implements IHttpAsyncHandler. Is this question too hard for a seasoned C++ architect?

Background Information We're looking to hire a seasoned C++ architect (10+years dev, of which at least 6years must be C++ ) for a high frequency trading platform. Job advert says STL, Boost proficiency is a must with preferences to modern uses of C++. The company I work for is a Fortune 500 IB (aka finance industry), it requires passes in all the standard SHL tests (numeric, vocab, spatial etc) before interviews can commence. Everyone on the team was given the task of coming up with one question to ask the candidates during a written/typed test, please note this is the second test provided to the candidates, the first being Advanced IKM C++ test, done in the offices supervised and without internet access. People passing that do the second test. After roughly 70 candidates, my question has been determined to be statistically the worst performing - aka least number of people attempted it, furthermore even less people were able to give meaningful answers. Please note, the second test is not timed, the candidate can literally take as long as they like (we've had one person take roughly 10.5hrs) My question to SO is this, after SHL and IKM adv c++ tests, backed up with at least 6+ years C++ development experience, is it still ok not to be able to even comment about let alone come up with some loose strategy for solving the following question. The Question There is a class C with methods foo, boo, boo_and_foo and foo_and_boo. Each method takes i,j,k and l clock cycles respectively, where i < j, k < i+j and l < i+j. class C { public: int foo() {...} int boo() {...} int boo_and_foo() {...} int foo_and_boo() {...} }; In code one might write: C c; . . int i = c.foo() + c.boo(); But it would be better to have: int i = c.foo_and_boo(); What changes or techniques could one make to the definition of C, that would allow similar syntax of the original usage, but instead have the compiler generate the latter. Note that foo and boo are not commutative. Possible Solution We were basically looking for an expression templates based approach, and were willing to give marks to anyone who had even hinted or used the phrase or related terminology. We got only two people that used the wording, but weren't able to properly describe how they accomplish the task in detail. We use such techniques all over the place, due to the use of various mathematical operators for matrix and vector based calculations, for example to decide when to use IPP or hand woven implementations at compile time for a particular architecture and many other things. The particular area of software development requires microsecond response times. I believe could/should be able to teach a junior such techniques, but given the assumed caliber of candidates I expected a little more. Is this really a difficult question? Should it be removed? Or are we just not seeing the right candidates?

Choosing random numbers efficiently

I have a method, which uses random samples to approximate a calculation. This method is called millions of times, so its very important that the process of choosing the random numbers is efficient. I'm not sure how fast javas Random().nextInt really are, but my program does not seem to benefit as much as I would like it too. When choosing the random numbers, I do the following (in semi pseudo-code): // Repeat this 300000 times Set set = new Set(); while(set.length != 5) set.add(randomNumber(MIN,MAX)); Now, this obviously has a bad worst-case running time, as the random-function in theory can add duplicated numbers for an eternity, thus staying in the while-loop forever. However, the numbers are chosen from {0..45}, so a duplicated value is for the most part unlikely. When I use the above method, its only 40% faster than my other method, which does not approximate, but yields the correct result. This is ran ~ 1 million times, so I was expecting this new method to be at least 50% faster. Do you have any suggestions for a faster method? Or maybe you know of a more efficient way of generation a set of random numbers.

MS SQL SELECT stored procedure according to combobox.selectedvalue

Hello, In order to fill a datagridview according to the selectedvalue of a combobox I've tried creating a stored procedure. However, as I'm not 100% sure what I'm doing it, depending on the WHERE statement at the end of my stored procedure, either returns everything within the table or nothing at all. Overwrite archetypes in Maven

Hello again! I'm having some trouble using Maven for my archetypes and I will need to overwrite some. I launch an instruction that does an archetype:generate in an archetype already existing directory. Is there a parameter that let's me overwrite existing archetypes? I have search the maven definitve guide but it states that the only parameters accepted are: -DgroupId -DartifactId -Dversion -DpackageName -DarchetypeGroupId -DarchetypeArtifactId -DarchetypeVersion -DinteractiveMode I could just search the directory and delete the files, but this proccess is going to be done automatically (so no human involved, no brains involved) and I wouldn't like he machine deleting things around.
