  • Am I supposed to store hashes for passwords?

    User System and Passwords: I was looking through MD5 stuff, and I am wondering what is the normal/good practice for passwords. Right now, I think people super encrypt the passwords and store the hashes. If so, how does password checking work? I just have the input password go through the encryption process again and then check the hash with the stored one, correct? This question may contradict the above, but should my salt ever be a randomly generated value?

    I have implemented the curl progress bar using curl_setopt($curl, CURLOPT_PROGRESSFUNCTION, 'callback'); curl_setopt($curl, CURLOPT_BUFFERSIZE,64000); curl_setopt($curl, CURLOPT_FOLLOWLOCATION, true); and a callback function. problem is, the script is outputting the percentage on my html everytime like this : 0 0.1 0.2 0.2 0.3 0.4 .. .. .. 1 1.1 How do i combine this with CSS to show a changing progress bar ?

The question is subjective, that is the point. I want to end up with a list ordered by what the community likes.     What is the difference between a Class Abstraction and an Object Interfaces in PHP? I ask because, I don't really see the point to both of them, they both do the same thing! So, what are the advantages of disadvantages using both against one or the other?   • APC decreasing php performance??? (php 5.3, apache 2.2, windows vista 64bit)

    Hi, I have an Apache/2.2.15 (VC9) and PHP/5.3.2 (VC9 thread safe) running as an apache module on Vista 64bit machine. All running fine. Project that I'm benchmarking (with apache's ab utility) is basically standard Zend Framework project with no db connection involved. Average (median) apache response is about 0.15 seconds. After I've installed APC (3.1.4-dev VC9 thread safe) with standard settings suddenly the request response time raised to 1.3 seconds (!), which is unacceptable... All apc settings looked always good (through the apc.php script: enough shm memory, no cache full, fragmentation 0%). Only difference was to disable the stats lookup (apc.stat = 0). Then the response dropped to 0.09 seconds which was finally better than without the apc. IIRC, it's expected and obvious that the stat lookup creates some overhead, but shouldn't it still be far more performant compared to running wihout the apc extension at all? Or put it differently why is the apc.stat creating so much overhead? Apparently, something is not working as it should, I don't really know where to start looking.   • PHP text parsing and / or make your own language?

    Been Googling around without finding much at all, so does anyone know of a class or library that helps you parse any sort of language, like a Domain Specific Language (I'm creating one, so I'm flexible in what the syntax and format can be) into either PHP code or some helpful struct or a class hiearchy or ... ? Anything goes at this point. :) I want to experiment with parsing text files into tokens, building up a small grammar and syntax library to express things like Business Natural Languages.

  • Error logging/handling on application basis?

    Hi everybody, We have a web server that we're about to launch a number of applications on. On the server-level we have managed to work out the error handling with the help of Hyperic to notify the person who is in charge in the event of a database/memcached server is going down. However, we are still in the need of handling those eventual error and log events that happen on application level to improve the applications for our customers, before the customers notices. So, what's then a good solution to do this? Utilizing PHP:s own error log would quickly become cloggered if we would run a big number of applications at the same time. It's probably isn't the best option if you like structure. One idea is to build a off-site lightweight error-handling application that has a REST/JSON API that receives encrypted and serialized arrays of error messages and stores them into a database. Maybe it could, depending on the severity of the error also be directly inputted into our bug tracker. Could be a few well spent hours, but it seems like a quite fragile solution and I am sure that there's better more-reliable alternatives out there already. Thanks,

  • PHP file modification time in milliseconds

    I there, I am currently writing a unit test which asserts that a file did not get modified. The test code execution takes less than one second and therefore I would like to know if it is possible to retrieve the file modification time in milliseconds. filemtime() function returns the UNIX timestamp in seconds. My current solution is using the sleep(1) function which will assure me that 1 second passed before checking if it was modified or not. I don't like that solution since it slows down the test by a great deal. I cannot assert the content equality via get_file_contents() since the data that can be rewritten would be the same. I am guessing it is impossible, is it?

    when I use fopen function , why don't I use r+ always , even when I'm not going to write any thing ... is there a reason for separating writing/reading process from only reading .. like , the file is locked for reading when I use r+ , because i might write new data into it or something ... another question : in php manual a+ : Open for reading and writing; place the file pointer at the end of the file. If the file does not exist, attempt to create it. What is supposed to be read if you are at the end of the file ..(pointer at the end) !!? where to learn more about the filesystem thing .... it's confusing

  • PHP+MYSQL Server Config

    Hi guys, I am parsing an XML file with PHP and inserting the rows in a MYSQL database. I am using PHP simplexml_load_files to load the XML and a foreach to loop through the array and insert the rows into my database. It works perfectly fine with small files i am testing, but it comes to reality I need to parse a large 500mb XML file and nothing happens. I was wondering what was the right Php.ini config for this case ? I have a VPS Linux Cent OS, with 256 mb of dedicated Memory and MYSQL 5.0.5. I have also set php memory_limit = 256M (maximum of my server) Any suggestions, similar experiences will be greatly appreciated Thanks

  • Zend license restrictions with modified code

    If I'm to take parts of Zend Framework and changed them (add something, remove...), and then changed it's name, for example Zend_Config to My_Config or Zend_Application_Bootstrap to My_Application_Bootstrap, and then distribute such a code with a commercial license would I then be violating Zend's licence? If that is not an option, what can I do then? Do I need to use their code "as is" without changes if I want do distribute it with my commercial application? Tnx :)

  • Regular Expression to get the size value of a CSS property?

    I wrote a regular expression to get the size from a CSS property: /(([+-]?\d*\.?\d+(\s)*(px|em|ex|pt|in|pc|mm|cm)?)|thin|medium|thick)(\s|;|$)/i but for some reason its not working as intended. For example, when I run the following: preg_match_all('/(([+-]?\d*\.?\d+(\s)*(px|em|ex|pt|in|pc|mm|cm)?)|thin|medium|thick)(\s|;|$)/i', "border-bottom:1px solid #99999;", $matches); It outputs: 1px 99999; But I only want the 1px value returned. I understand why its returning the above but can't seem to figure out how to only return the size and not the color value. I tried using the following negative lookbehind but it's not working either: /(((?<!#\d{3}|#\d{6})[+-]?\d*\.?\d+(\s)*(px|em|ex|pt|in|pc|mm|cm)?)|thin|medium|thick)(\s|;|$)/i I want to use preg_match_all for those CSS properties that can have multiple size values (i.e. margin). Anyone have any ideas how to get this regex to return only the size values? Thanks for your help!

  • Some help needed with a SQL query

    Hello, I need some help with a MySQL query. I have two tables, one with offers and one with statuses. An offer can has one or more statuses. What I would like to do is get all the offers and their latest status. For each status there's a table field named 'added' which can be used for sorting. I know this can be easily done with two queries, but I need to make it with only one because I also have to apply some filters later in the project.     All, I am using Zend Framework and Zend_Session to do global session management for my application. I plan to clear all sessions on logout and hence am using the following code: if($this->sessionExists()) { $this->destroy(); } But it seems like it's not doing a good job.. I am getting an error: PHP Warning: session_destroy() [<a href='function.session-destroy'> function.session-destroy</a>]: Trying to destroy uninitialized session How can I get rid of this error? Is there an alternative to sessionExists()?
