    i am exploring the option of whether DoCmd.TransferText will do what i need, and it seems like it wont. i need to insert data if it does not exist and update it if it does exist i am planning to read a text file line by line like this: Dim intFile As Integer Dim strLine As String intFile = FreeFile() Open myFile For Input As #intFile Line Input #intFile, strLine Close #intFile i guess each individual line will be a record. it will probably be comma separated and some fields will have a " text qualifier because within the field itself i will have commas my question is how would i read a comma delimited text file that has double quotes sometimes as text qualifiers into a table in access?

  • Perl - Reading .txt files line-by-line and using compare function (printing non-matches only once)

    I am really struggling and have spent about two full days on this banging my head against receiving the same result every time I run this perl script. I have a Perl script that connects to a vendor tool and stores data for ~26 different elements within @data. There is a foreach loop for @data that breaks the 26 elements into $e-{'element1'), $e-{'element2'), $e-{'element3'), $e-{'element4'), etc. etc. etc. I am also reading from the .txt files within a directory (line-by-line) and comparing the server names that exist within the text files with what exists in $e-{'element4'}. The Problem: Matches are working perfectly and only printing one line for each of the 26 elements when there is a match, however non-matches are producing one line for every entry within the .txt files (37 in all). So if there are 100 entries (each entry having 26 elements) stored within @data, then there are 100 x 37 entries being printed. So for every non-match in the: if ($e-{'element4'} eq '6' && $_ =~ /$e-{element7}/i) statement below, I am receiving a print out saying that there is not a match. 37 entries for the same identical 26 elements (because there are 37 total entries in all of the .txt files). The Goal: I need to print out only 1 line for each unique entry (a unique entry being $e-{element1} thru $e-{element26}). It is already printing one 1 line for matches, but it is printing out 37 entries when there is not a match. I need to treat matches and non-matches differently.   • ubuntu 10.04; kvm bridged networking not working with public ip addresses

    I have a dedicated hosted server box with ubuntu 10.04 64 bit installed. I would like to run kvm with ubuntu 8.04 installed for some php 5.2 compatible apps(they don't work right with php 5.3, the default in ubuntu 10.04). I installed KVM as instructed at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/KVM/Installation . I installed the vm using virt-manager. I never could figure out how use virt-install or any of those automated installers. I just installed it using the disc. I set up bridged networking as per https://help.ubuntu.com/community/KVM/Networking . However, the bridged connection doesn't work. Here's my /etc/network/interfaces on the host, running ubuntu 10.04. (with specific public ip blanked) auto lo iface lo inet loopback auto eth0 iface eth0 inet manual auto br0 iface br0 inet static address xx.xx.xx.xx netmask 255.255.255.248 gateway xx.xx.xx.xa bridge_ports eth0 bridge_stp on bridge_fd 0 bridge_maxwait 10 ` Here's my /etc/network/interfaces on the guest, running ubuntu 8.04. auto lo iface lo inet loopback auto eth0 iface eth0 inet static address xx.xx.xx.xy netmask 255.255.255.248 gateway xx.xx.xx.xa The two vm's can communicate to each other.   • Getting WLAN on my Laptop to work (Medion MD98300)

    Dear Ubuntu Community, I am having difficulties to get the WLAN Adapter on my Medion 98300 Laptop to work. The WLAN Card seems to be connected through an internal USB Interface and the Card itself had shown up as a wirelles Network while installing Ubuntu. I have tried a few things earlier, but none of my google reasearches have brought me to a working solution... I am quite new to the Linux System and only knoew a couple of terminal commands so far, so I probably have missed out on a few possible solutions. Maybe you can help me? Thank you very much in advance! A fre minimal technical Details: AMD Turion 64 X2 Dual-Core Mobile Technolgie TL-50 NVIDIA GeForce Go 6150 SanDisk 64GB SSD 2GB RAM DDR2 667 nForce Chipset (I forgt the Version, but deductable from the GPU I guess) WiFi: ZyDAS ZD1211B 802.11g Thank's a lot again! :) UPDATE: I tried around myself a little and found a guide on the Linux Mint forums that helped! I already had tried to install the linux backport modules etc. What I finally did was update the linux firmware and run the following command: echo "options acer_wmi wirelles=1" sudo tee /etc/modprobe.d/acer_wmi.conf and rebooted now I found and could connect to networks, but unfortunately I found, that the link quality was very bad, around 40 to 50. Eventhough my Router is running at high power and is only 6 Meters away! I then switched a few channels, but that did not improve much. Before, under Windows, I had a very good link quality and had the entire 16mbit/s internet connection at disposal, now I can only get about 3-5Mbit/s. better then nothing, but still pretty bad! The "TX power" is fixed on 20dBm and iwconfig says, that the "Power Management" is off... Maybe the power of the module is set too low?... UPDATE2: I figured that 20dBm is a normal power output. I even tried to change the power using iwconfig wlan0 txpower INTEGERHERE but, obviously my "Card" does not support more then 20. More would probably be illegal as well, so I won't even use more then 20. I guess that I will have to figure out a way, or maybe just switch cards. Are the Mailboard-USB-Connectors on a laptop of the same property as the standard external ones? If so, I could simply solder a micro Wirelless N Adapter onto the board :)

    I want my Python script to be able to read Unicode command line arguments in Windows. But it appears that sys.argv is a string encoded in some local encoding, rather than Unicode. How can I read the command line in full Unicode? Example code: argv.py import sys first_arg = sys.argv[1] print first_arg print type(first_arg) print first_arg.encode("hex") print open(first_arg) On my PC set up for Japanese code page, I get: C:\temp>argv.py "PC·??????08.09.24.doc" PC·??????08.09.24.doc <type 'str'> 50438145835c83748367905c90bf8f9130382e30392e32342e646f63 <open file 'PC·??????08.09.24.doc', mode 'r' at 0x00917D90> That's Shift-JIS encoded I believe, and it "works" for that filename. But it breaks for filenames with characters that aren't in the Shift-JIS character set—the final "open" call fails: C:\temp>argv.py Jörgen.txt Jorgen.txt <type 'str'> 4a6f7267656e2e747874 Traceback (most recent call last): File "C:\temp\argv.py", line 7, in <module> print open(first_arg) IOError: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: 'Jorgen.txt' Note—I'm talking about Python 2.x, not Python 3.0. I've found that Python 3.0 gives sys.argv as proper Unicode. But it's a bit early yet to transition to Python 3.0 (due to lack of 3rd party library support). Update: A few answers have said I should decode according to whatever the sys.argv is encoded in. The problem with that is that it's not full Unicode, so some characters are not representable. Here's the use case that gives me grief: I have enabled drag-and-drop of files onto .py files in Windows Explorer. I have file names with all sorts of characters, including some not in the system default code page. My Python script doesn't get the right Unicode filenames passed to it via sys.argv in all cases, when the characters aren't representable in the current code page encoding. There is certainly some Windows API to read the command line with full Unicode (and Python 3.0 does it). I assume the Python 2.x interpreter is not using it.

    I can't figure how to have cmd.exe not interpret something like %PATH% as an environment variable.   • Blinking power button

    A friend asked me to look at his Gateway DX4640 desktop. When he presses the power button, power goes to the mobo (NVIDIA nForce 630i MCP73PV, GeForce 7100 chipset) and the CPU fan starts spinning. The power button slowely blinks on and off (blue) and the screen briefly says no signal and then goes black. And nothing else; no post code beeps. My initial two conjectures were: 1. Vista was stuck in sleep/hibernation mode, or 2. A power off had left the mobo in a bad state. The fix for both is to: a) Unplug the AC power cord b) hold the power button for 30 second to fully discharge the mobo It didn't help. I left the system unplugged from AC power for an hour. No change. I am out of ideas. Has anybody seen anything like this before? What does a blinking blue power button mean? How can I get more data points to guide trouble shooting? --Thank you, --Mike

  • Is the difference between superuser and serverfault basically when you can do a power cycle?

    Generally speaking, aren't there a lot of problems that can be fixed with just a simple power cycle? Especially with Windows, a reboot will solve the problems (at least temporarily)? So, would this be the difference between serverfault and superuser? Generally, where as a superuser might just be annoyed by a restart/power cycle, a sysadmin cannot because its a critical system or otherwise production box?

    I am thinking of purchasing the Dell I580-5108NBC, but I want to add 2 1TB SATA drives in a RAID5 config. The system only has a 300W power supply, and already has a 1TB drive and a DVD burner. Is the 300W power supply sufficient to support two additional drives, or should I upgrade it? Or, can I simply unplug the DVD burner?

Yes, there are workarounds, such as drawing a rectangle shape 1px thick, but that complicates the drawable xml, if it consists of multiple <item> elements. Anyone had any chance with this?

    As this post points out you can install Vimballs using the normal: vim somevimball.vba :so % :q But if you want to install a from the command line how do you do it? I ran a 'man vim' and it seems like the best "from source install" option was the '-S' option so I tried to install haskellmode with it: wget 'http://projects.haskell.org/haskellmode-vim/vimfiles/haskellmode-20090430.vba' vim -S haskellmode-20090430.vba and that failed to work. It gave me the following error: Error detected while processing function vimball#Vimball: line 10: (Vimball) The current file does not appear to be a Vimball! press ENTER or type command to continue It should be noted that using the first method I was able to successfully install the vimball. I have tried the second method on a few other vimballs and it has failed every time. Is there a way to install a vimball from the command line? It seems like a useful sort of task. Oh, and I am running the following version of vim: Version: 2:7.2.330-1ubuntu3 Thanks.

Just as the line tool in Photoshop (for example): The user clicks on the image, drags the mouse (while the line between the start point and the mouse point is dynamically drawn on mouse drag). I would also need a callable function to send the page the start and end coordinates.   • Ruby from the command line - sticking - Windows

    I have seen this behavior on Windows with Ruby for a long time. If I install a gem sometimes the command line will just get "lost" and stop printing output until you go back to the command line and hit enter a few times. I notice this in other places too. Like starting up a Ruby on Rails console. Or generating a model with Rails. Have other people seen this? What causes this? The weird thing is this doesn't happen all the time. I have never seen this with PHP, Lua, Perl or Python from the command line. I have seen this on Vista and Windows 7 (32-bit and 64-bit). This happens on multiple machines.

  • python,running command line servers - they're not listening properly

    hello all Im attempting to start a server app (in erlang, opens ports and listens for http requests) via the command line using pexpect (or even directly using subprocess.Popen()). the app starts fine, logs (via pexpect) to the screen fine, I can interact with it as well via command line... the issue is that the servers wont listen for incoming requests. The app listens when I start it up manually, by typing commands in the command line. using subprocess/pexpect stops the app from listening somehow... when I start it manually "netstat -tlp" displays the app as listening, when I start it via python (subprocess/pexpect) netstat does not register the app... I have a feeling it has something to do with the environemnt, the way python forks things, etc. Any ideas? thank you

  • Pressing "Home" in Vim on an Indented Line

    I have a bad habit of using the 'home' key to go back to the beginning of a line. As I recently started using vim (and loving it!) I noticed that when I press the home key on a lined that is indented, it returns me to the very beginning of the line. In Notepad++ (the editor I used to use) it would return me to the beginning of the code on that line, right after the indent. Is there some way to replicate this behavior in vim? Usually, when I'm pressing home it's in the Insert mode for me to (usually) stick a variable there. I have set smartindent in my vimrc, with set noautoindent as a "tips" page told me to make sure to disable autoindent (although it didn't seem to be enabled in the first place - perhaps that option is extraneous.)     Hey guys/gals I'm writing a python script that fixes some duplicate issues on my database. I would like to display some progress status to the users, currently I just print it like this: print "Merged " + str(idx) + " out of " + str(totalCount); The problem is that it prints that in a new line for every record and that does not look so good :) I'd like to either always print the string above on the same line on the screen or use some smart widget that displays it in some sort of progress bar. I intent to run this on the command line, any suggestions will be much appreciated.

  • How to extract a couple marked strings from a line (python)

    My Friends, I spent quite some time on this one... but cannot yet figure out a better way to do it. I am coding in python, by the way. So, here is a line of text in a file I am working with, for example: "ref|ZP_01631227.1| 3-dehydroquinate synthase [Nodularia spumigena CCY9414]..." How can I extract the two strings "ZP_01631227.1" and "Nodularia spumigena CCY9414" from the line? The pairs of "| |" and brackets are like markers so we know we want to get the strings in between the two... I guess I can probably loop over all the characters in the line and do it the hard way. It just takes so much time... Wondering if there is a python library or other smart ways to do it nicely? Thanks to all!

    I'm doing something in Java that requires input to be matched against the pattern ^[1-5]$. I should have a while loop looping through each line of input, checking it against the pattern, and outputting an error message if it does not. Sudo code: while (regex_match(/^[^1-5]$/,inputLine)) { print ("Please enter a number between 1 and 5! "); getNextInputLine(); } I can use java.util.Scanner.hasMatch("^[^1-5]$"), but that will only match a single token, not the entire line. Any idea on how to make hasMatch match against the entire line? (Setting the delimiter to "\n" or "\0" doesn't work.)

    Okay, so what I'm trying to do is print out a percentage complete to my command line, now, I would like this to simply 'update' the number shown on the screen. So somehow go back to the beginning of the line and change it. For example the windows relog.exe command-line utility (which can convert a .blg file to a .csv file) does this. If you run it, it will display a percentage complete. Now this is probably written in C++. I don't know if this is possible in perl as well ?

    I have always wondered how people update a previous line in a command line. a great example of this is when using the wget command in linux. It creates an ASCII loading bar of sorts that looks like this: [======                    ] 37% and of course the loading bar moves and the percent changes, But it doesn't make a new line. I cannot figure out how to do this. Can someone point me in the right direction?
