• How get all calendar entries for a given using the Notes.Jar for Java

  I am working on a simple java code to extract all calendar entries for a given date. I know it possible using Domingo but I would like to use only Notes.jar for this purpose. It is possible for me to create a session based on a given credentials and get the calendar object. I am looking to extract the current running notes session and use that session object to open the calendar view in the mail file and start playing with it. But I am not able to get it working. Anybody have any idea or links on this ?

• How to handle value types when embedding IronPython in C#?

  There is a well known issue when it comes to using .NET value types in IronPython. This has recently caused me a headache when trying to use Python as an embedded scripting language in C#. The problem can be summed up as follows: Given a C# struct such as: struct Vector { public float x; public float y; } And a C# class such as: class Object { public Vector position; } The following will happen in IronPython: obj = Object() print obj.position.x # prints ‘0’ obj.position.x = 1 print obj.position.x # still prints ‘0’ As the article states, this means that value types are mostly immutable. However, this is a problem as I was planning on using a vector library that is implemented as seen above. Are there any workarounds for working with existing libraries that rely on value types? Modifying the library would be the very last resort, but I'd rather avoid that.

This leads me with (I think) three solutions: Sort rules before passing them into the evaluator. Change the parameter type to something that enforces a sort order. Sort within the evaluator. I like option 3 because it always ensures that it is sorted and I like option 1 because it seems more cohesive. And option 2 seems like a good compromise. Is a scenario like this context specific/subjective, or is there really a best practice to be applied here?

  I'm just taking a look at CoffeeScript for the first time so bare with me if this is a dumb question. I'm familiar with the hidden pattern methodology however I'm still wrapping my head around object prototypes. I'm trying to create a basic class for controlling a section on my site. The problem I'm running into is losing defined class variables within a different scope. For example, the code below works fine and creates the properties within the object perfectly. However when I jump into a jQuery callback I lose all knowledge of the class variables storing some of the jQuery objects for multiple uses. • Getting weird python error when I run a simple django script in Eclipse, not happening in console

  I am running a basic script that sets up the django environment by itself, to enable me to test the ORM features of django without having to implement web pages. The script then imports one of the types defined in my models. This error doesn't happen when I run this script from iPython, only from eclipse.   I have a problem with commands in an MVVM application (I am only learning MVVM so go easy). MyClassViewModel is set to the datacontext for MainForm1, MyList is bound to UserControl1 datacontext and each item in the list is represented by UserControl2. I am trying to fire MyCommand in UserControl2 using the following: <CheckBox IsChecked="{Binding MyBool}" Command="{Binding Path=MyCommand}" CommandParameter="{Binding}"> I get the following error in the output: System.Windows.Data Error: 39 : BindingExpression path error: 'MyCommand' property not found on 'object' ''MyObject'' From this error I know that WPF is looking for the command in the object bound to the UserControl2 what I really need is for it to look for the command in the MainForm1 datacontext (MyClassViewModel). Is it possible to bubble up commands like this and if so how is it done? Is bubbling up the command a good solution?

  Hi, does anyone have any thoughts on what would be considered good technicaly interviews for new php programmers. Im not meaning the little questions that are intended to know language specific intricacies but more on larger interview questions that potential employees may take an hour or 2 to solve in their own time and then come back with. Specifically im looking at PHP and object orientated but are there any ideas on suitable problems that a php programmer should be able to solve within a couple of hours? I am thinking that I want to have demonstrated object orientated techniques and also unit testing capabilities but as for that it can be anything.

• Is this slow WPF TextBlock performance expected?

  Hi, I am doing some benchmarking to determine if I can use WPF for a new product. However, early performance results are disappointing. I made a quick app that uses data binding to display a bunch of random text inside of a list box every 100 ms and it was eating up ~15% CPU. So I made another quick app that skipped the data binding/data template scheme and does nothing but update 10 TextBlocks that are inside of a ListBox every 100 ms (the actual product wouldn't require 100 ms updates, more like 500 ms max, but this is a stress test). I'm still seeing ~10-15% CPU usage. Why is this so high? Is it because of all the garbage strings?   My application will have different strategies for my objects. What's the best way of implementing that? I would really love the case when we can make strategy classes implementation dynamically loaded from, say, some relational database. Not sure how do that better, though. What's the best approach? Idea is that say we want to apply to object MyObj strategy Strategy123 then we just load from database by ID 123 the object, deserialize it, get the Strategy class, and use it with MyObj. The maintenance while sounds easier from the first look can be a pain in the long run if Strategy interfaces changes, etc. What can I do also? I want to find solution when I should be keeping Strategy classes in codebase -- just for the sake that I don't need code change and re-deployment of the application if my Strategy changes, or I add new strategy. Please advise!

  is it possible to access a static property of a COM object without creating an instance of the object? my situation is this: i have an unmanaged application (written in delphi). this application exposes a COM-based plugininterface. until now i only wrote managed plugins in c#. plugins provide their info (name, author, ..) via a static property that returns an instance of PluginInfo (which implements IPluginInfo). this static property i can access on the managed plugins using http://managedvcl.com. now i want to write unmanaged plugins on the same interface. i can load them using: plug := CreateComObject(TGuid) as IMyPlugInterface; and they run, but i don't know how to read out their PluginInfo. so the question again is: is there another way than implementing IPluginInfo in the plugin-class and only accessing the info after i have created an instance of the plugin?

  Hello Everyone, I have an existing C# 3.0 WinForms project with .NET 3.5 that talks to a MySQL database. I would like to use data binding (I'm new to this, so I've been doing all of the UI updates manually) to simplify things. I followed a link from this question to this article which mentions using a DataSet but also follows up with "my view on this topic is strongly in favor of Business Objects." Also that was with .NET 2.0. What are the current methods to use data binding with a WinForms application? What are their advantages in terms of simplicity, how much additional code is necessary, etc. For reference, I use an ORM approach to build objects with public properties from a database. I want to map these properties for each object onto UI elements like TextBoxes. There could be many properties for an object so I want to simplify the code to do this.

• ASP.NET MVC ,Maintaining Model State between Ajax requests

  problem: On first full page request, my controller invokes an applicationServices Layer (Web Service Proxy to my business tier) in order to populate a collection of current services that is stored in my own controller base class property. This is then to be displayed within a view. Everything within the context of that controller has access to this "Services Collection". Now when i make further calls to the same action method via an AJAX Call, i obviously hitt a different instance of that controller meaning my services collection is empty. So other than re-getting the whole collection again, where would i store this collection so it gets persisted between ajax requests? Should i persist it as a seperate DomainModel Object, Session object?....as ViewData is not working for me obv. Excuse my MVC ignorance :) Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

• Specifying location of new inlineshape in Word VBA?

  I'm working on a document "wizard" for the company that I work for. It's a .dot file with a header consisting of some text and some form fields, and a lot of VBA code. The body of the document is pulled in as an OLE object from a separate .doc file. Currently, this is being done as a Shape, rather than an InlineShape. I did this because I can absolutely position the Shape, whereas the InlineShape always appears at the beginning of the document. The problem with this is that a Shape doesn't move when the size of the header changes. If someone needs to add or remove a line from the header due to a special case, they also need to move the object that defines the body. This is a pain, and I'd like to avoid it if possible. Long story short, how do I position an InlineShape using VBA in Word? Oh, and this is for a 10-year-old system setup, so Office '97.

• Brainstorming: Weird JPA problem, possibly classpath or jar versioning problem???

  I'm seeing a weird error message and am looking for some ideas as to what the problem could be. I'm sort of new to using the JPA. I have an application where I'm using Spring's Entity Manager Factory (LocalContainerEntityManagerFactoryBean), EclipseLink as my ORM provider, connected to a MySQL DB and built with Maven. I'm not sure if any of this matters..... When I deploy this application to Glassfish, the application works as expected. The problem is, I've created a set of stand alone unit tests to run outside of Glassfish that aren't working correctly. I get the following error (I've edited the class names a little) com.xyz.abc.services.persistence.entity.MyEntity cannot be cast to com.xyz.abc.services.persistence.entity.MyEntity The object cannot be cast to a class of the same type? How can that be?   Hello! One of my client has an old osCommerce website and while working on it I have to implement what I would call "custom php page", i.e. a page which query a MySQL table, not related to osCommerce, and list the result. I'm not sure of the version, this trick I have seen a lot didn't gave me any result : http://www.clubosc.com/how-to-know-what-version-of-oscommerce-you-are-using.html . And I'm having a hard time doing this seemingly simple task, since osCommerce doesn't allow any php code in the page creation, and I didn't find any module giving me this possibility (not that it is easy to search in this mess : http://addons.oscommerce.com/). At this point I figured it would be easier to just hack'n slash through the code and come up with a custom page : I copied the index.php (the entry point in the application) : <?php require('includes/application_top.php'); if(!$smarty->is_cached($sContentPage, $sCachingGroup)) { //we switch on the content recognition require('includes/pages/' . $sContentClass . But alas, all of this curious and dubious code simply return me the home page. So here I am, is there an osCommerce Guru around here, or would anyone has a better idea (oh and I also posted on the osCommerce forum, but I'm still waiting for a response...)?   Hi guys, in my app i got a TTLauncher Object with some TTLauncherItems in it. Now i want to add some Items dynamically inside my App by pressing a button. Is there a simple way to do that or do i have to create my own methods? In the original facebook application there is already something like that implemented. (You can add your Friends to the Launcher) If not, what would be the best thing to do something like that? Store all "extra items" in a plist oder even in a database and query them, each time TTLauncher object is initialized? Thanks for help :)

  Correct me if anything is wrong. Now when we use Spring DAO for ORM templates, when we use @Transactional attribute, we do not have control over the transaction and/or session when the method is called externally, not within the method. Lazy loading saves resources - less queries to the db, less memory to keep all the collections fetched in the app memory. So, if lazy=false, then everything is fetched, all associated collections, that is not effectively, if there are 10,000 records in a linked set. Now, I have a method in a DAO class that is supposed to return me a User object. It has collections that represent linked tables of the database. I need to get a object by id and then query its collections. Hibernate "failed to lazily initialize a collection" exception occurs when I try to access the linked collection that this DAO method returns. Explain please, what is a workaround here?
