    I'd like to be able to get the src value that is actually used for a video element like the following: <video> <source src="foo.mp4" type='video/mp4; codecs="avc1.42E01E, mp4a.40.2"'> <source src="foo.webm" type='video/webm; codecs="vp8, vorbis"'> <source src="foo.ogv" type='video/ogg; codecs="theora, vorbis"'> </video> In Firefox (at least), src is defined for the source elements but not for the video element. How can I find which source is used?

    I'm thinking in particular of Chrome, though Firebug would be interesting to. I've tried toString() and valueOf(), but neither of those seem to be used. Interestingly, if I take a function it'll display the function definition - but then if I add a toString() method it will show null! var a = function(){}; console.log(a); // output: function (){} a.toString = function(){ return 'a'; }; console.log(a); // output: null a.valueOf = function(){ return 'v'; }; console.log(a); // output: null Any ideas?

  • How do I stop Chrome from pre-populating input boxes?

    Is there some way I can stop Chrome from auto populating input boxes? I have a page with a Sign Up form and a Log In form. In Chrome, if a user has already signed up and they've come to this page to log in, the password input box on the sign up form is populated with their password. I would really like to force the sign up fields to never auto complete. I've tried setting autocomplete="false" but this makes no difference.

  • Chrome is creating duplicate sessions with the same id

    I encountered an issue while I was revising my session library today, and this might be the first time I've ever seen a browser-specific problem on a back end script. I hope somebody can shed some light. Basically how the session library works is: when instantiated, it checks for a cookie called 'id' (in the form of a uniqid result) on the client machine. If a cookie is found, the script checks that and a hashed copy of the user agent string against entries in a session table. If a matching entry is found, the script resumes the session. If no cookie named 'id' is found, or if no matching entry exists in the sessions table, the script creates both. Fairly standard, I think. Now here's the weird part: in Firefox, everything works as predicted. The user gets one session, which he'll always resume upon connection, as long as 24 hours of inactivity has not elapsed. But when I visit the page in Chrome, even though it looks the same and appears to be executing queries in the same order, I see two entries in the session table. The sessions share an agent string, but the ids are different, and timestamp logs indicate that the ghost session is being created shortly (within a second) after the one created for the user. For debugging purposes, I've been printing queries to the screen as they're executed, and this is an example of what I'm seeing when Chrome should be opening one session and is somehow opening two instead: // Attempting to resume a session SELECT id FROM sessions WHERE id = '4fd24a5cd8df12.62439982' AND agent = '9bcd5c6aac911f8bcd938a9563bc4eca' // No result, so it creates a new one INSERT INTO sessions (id, agent, start, last) VALUES ('4fd24ef0347f26.72354606', '9bcd5c6aac911f8bcd938a9563bc4eca', '1339182832', '1339182832') // Clear old sessions DELETE FROM sessions WHERE last < 1339096432 And here's what I'm seeing in the database afterward: id, agent, start, last 4fd24ef0347f26.72354606, 9bcd5c6aac911f8bcd938a9563bc4eca, 1339182832, 1339182832 4fd24ef0857f94.72251285, 9bcd5c6aac911f8bcd938a9563bc4eca, 1339182833, 1339182833 Am I missing something obvious? The only thing I can think of is that Chrome might be creating a hidden session in the background, possibly to crawl the page. If that's the case though, it could become a problem later, when I begin associating active sessions with entries in the users table. I've been looking for possible bugs in my script, but I haven't found anything so far, and everything works as expected in Firefox.

  • Why is the page still caching even after the no-cache headers have been sent?

    I've done a ton of research on this and have asked many people with help and still no success. Here are the details... I'm involved in developing a website that pulls data from various data files, combines them in a temp .csv file, and then is graphed using a popular graphing library: dygraphs. The bulk of the website is written in PHP. The parameters that determine the data that is graphed are stored in the users session, the .csv is named after the users session and available for download, and then the .csv file is written in a script that passes it to the dygraphs object. And we've found, even with the no-cache headers sent: header("Cache-Control: no-cache, must-revalidate"); header("Expires: Sat, 26 Jul 1997 05:00:00 GMT"); Many users experience in the middle of a session, (if enough different graphs are generated) the page displaying an older, static rendering of the page (data they had graphed earlier in the session) as if it were cached and loaded instead of getting a new request. It only gets weirder though: I've checked using developer tools in both Firefox and Chrome and both browsers are receiving the no-cache headers just fine; Even when the problem occurs if you view the page source, the source is the correct content (a table/legend is also dynamically created using php, the source shows the correct table, but what is rendered is older content); the page begins to render correctly until the graph is about to be display, and then shows the older content; the older content displays as if it were a completely static overlay--the cached graph does not have the same dynamic features (roll over data point display, zoom and pan, etc.) And it is as if the correct page were somewhere beneath it (the download button for the csv file moves depending on how large the table is. The older, static page does nothing if you click the download .csv button, but if you can manage to find the one in the page beneath it you can click and still download the .csv. The data in the .csv is correct) It is one of the strangest things I've seen in development thus far. Some other relevant facts are that all the problems I've personally experience occurred while I was using Chrome. Non of these symptoms have been reported by Firefox users. IE users have had the same problems (IE users are forced to use chrome frame). I'm at my wits end at this point. We've sent the php headers; we've tried setting the cache profile for php on IIS as "DisableCache" (or whatever); we've tried sending a random query string to the results page; we've tried all the appropriate meta tags--all with no success.

    If you take an array and do the following: arr = []; arr[100] = 1; The length will be 101, which makes sense due to 0-99 being set as undefined Now if we sort that array: arr.sort() it will look like this: [1, undefined x100] since keys are not preserved. However, the length is still 101, since the undefined have all been moved to the end, instead of removed. Is this behavior intentional and if so: is there a built-in function that removes undefined and recalculates and why is it intentional? I am not asking how to write my own function to recalculate length. A sorted array's length can easily be forced with for (x = 0; arr[x] != undefined; x++);arr.length = x;

  • Chrome/IE table cell positioning help

    I am making a tiny script to make a HTML element editable. When you click on an element, it gets replaced with a textarea, and you can basically enter the new text. When you press enter, the textarea is replaced with the original element with its innerHTML updated. The demo of the script is here: http://iambot.net/demo/editable/ Now the problem is with the inline table editing. It works perfectly on FF 3.6, but on Chrome/Safari, once the value of a cell is updated, the position of the updated cell shifts to the right by the width of a cell.(Just try the demo in Chrome/Safari) It totally messes up the whole table. I am a beginner in CSS and not able to identify where exactly I'm going wrong. Any help/pointers appreciated! Thanks.

    I have seem a lot of videos in which developers changing CSS on the fly in chrome. I tried the same thing but chrome dod not allow me to change the code. I can't write on the style sheet. Is there any specific setting to do this? Kindly help. EDIT: To edit the css, I right clock on an element, select inspect element. It will open the console. I select the id of the element and go to style.css in resource and try to change the css. It do not allow me to write there.

    Youtube video does not show up in a modal window when viewed in a desktop version of Chrome.   • Passing a panel widget to a function

    I have written a quite complex script which calls a server handler to refresh elements in a grid at the press of a button. For code re-use and consistent behaviour, I am wanting to call that server handler directly during the initial painting of the grid. When the server handler gets called by clicking on the button, all expected widgets are available and can be queried with e.parameter.widget etc. When I call the function directly and pass it the panel variable, the value of e is just 'AbsolutePanel'. Is there some way I can emulate the addCallbackElement way of passing the entire panel and all widgets it contains to the function? Or a way of automatically firing a server handler on script start? Please forgive any syntax errors below, I have pruned 500 lines of code down to the pertinent bits!     I'm working on a website where users will be able to register and provide information about their location. In order to prevent users from inputting incorrect data, we don't want users to provide free-text information but instead choose from predefined values as much as possible. We believe there are 2 ways of providing those values: use an API to an external service provider or create your own local database. APIs Some resources: - https://developers.facebook.com/docs/reference/ads-api/get-autocomplete-data/ - http://developer.yahoo.com/geo/geoplanet/ Pros: -accuracy and completeness of data. -no maintenance related to update of data as this it taken care of by API provider. -easier/faster to get started (no need to create local database, just implement API). Cons: -degradation of performance when availability issues with external API. -outage due to changes to the external API (until your code is updated to reflect those changes). -lock-in with external provider. Local database Some resources: - http://developer.yahoo.com/geo/geoplanet/data/ - http://www.maxmind.com/app/geolitecity - http://download.geonames.org/export/dump/ Pros: -no external dependency: improved stability and performance.
