  • Stopping cookies being set from a domain (aka "cookieless domain") to increase site performance

    I was reading in Google's documentation about improving site speed. One of their recommendations is serving static content (images, css, js, etc.) from a "cookieless domain": Static content, such as images, JS and CSS files, don't need to be accompanied by cookies, as there is no user interaction with these resources. You can decrease request latency by serving static resources from a domain that doesn't serve cookies. Google then says that the best way to do this is to buy a new domain and set it to point to your current one: To reserve a cookieless domain for serving static content, register a new domain name and configure your DNS database with a CNAME record that points the new domain to your existing domain A record. Configure your web server to serve static resources from the new domain, and do not allow any cookies to be set anywhere on this domain. In your web pages, reference the domain name in the URLs for the static resources. This is pretty straight forward stuff, except for the bit where it says to "configure your web server to serve static resources from the new domain, and do not allow any cookies to be set anywhere on this domain". From what I've read, there's no setting in IIS that allows you to say "serve static resources", so how do I prevent ASP.NET from setting cookies on this new domain? At present, even if I'm just requesting a .jpg from the new domain, it sets a cookie on my browser, even though our application's cookies are set to our old domain. For example, ASP.NET sets an ".ASPXANONYMOUS" cookie that (as far as I'm aware) we're not telling it to do. Apologies if this is a real newb question, I'm new at this! Thanks.

  • Class initialization and synchronized class method

    Hi there, In my application, there is a class like below: public class Client { public synchronized static print() { System.out.println("hello"); } static { doSomething(); // which will take some time to complete } } This class will be used in a multi thread environment, many threads may call the Client.print() method simultaneously. I wonder if there is any chance that thread-1 triggers the class initialization, and before the class initialization complete, thread-2 enters into print method and print out the "hello" string? I see this behavior in a production system (64 bit JVM + Windows 2008R2), however, I cannot reproduce this behavior with a simple program in any environments. In Java language spec, section 12.4.1 (http://java.sun.com/docs/books/jls/second_edition/html/execution.doc.html), it says: A class or interface type T will be initialized immediately before the first occurrence of any one of the following: T is a class and an instance of T is created. T is a class and a static method declared by T is invoked. A static field declared by T is assigned. A static field declared by T is used and the reference to the field is not a compile-time constant (§15.28). References to compile-time constants must be resolved at compile time to a copy of the compile-time constant value, so uses of such a field never cause initialization. According to this paragraph, the class initialization will take place before the invocation of the static method, however, it is not clear if the class initialization need to be completed before the invocation of the static method. JVM should mandate the completion of class initialization before entering its static method according to my intuition, and some of my experiment supports my guess. However, I did see the opposite behavior in another environment. Can someone shed me some light on this? Any help is appreciated, thanks.

    hello all, i am new to the filestream option in sql server 2008, but i have already understand how to open this option and how to create a table that allow you to save files. let say my table contains: id,name, filecontent i tried to insert an html file (that has hebrew chars/text in it) to this table. i'm writing in asp.net (c#), using visual studio 2008. but when i tried to read back the content , hebrew char becomes '?'. the actions i took were: 1. i read the file like this: // open the stream reader System.IO.StreamReader aFile = new StreamReader(FileName, System.Text.UTF8Encoding.UTF8); // reads the file to the end stream = aFile.ReadToEnd(); // closes the file aFile.Close(); return stream; // returns the stream i inserted the 'stream' to the filecontent column as binary data. i tried to do a 'select' to this column and the data did return (after i coverted it back to string) but hebrew chars become '?' how do i solve this problem ? what I should pay attention to ? thanks, gadym

    I am trying to do a simple hw problem involving namespace, static data members and functions.   • How to verify if file is according to mask in PHP without reading filename from disk.

    I have a list of file names(I already have the filelist let's say in a text file). I want to process this list in the following way: filenames of type /dirX/subdirX//.ext will be written in a new file all the other filenames will be written in a separate file. Is there any option to verify if a filename corresponds to a mask, without reading the file name from disk?(by filename I mean a simple string). I would like to know if there is such a function that don't require disk access. I know regex could be an workaround but I'd like to have something from php.

  • Using nginx to rewrite urls inside outgoing responses

    We have a customer with a site running on Apache. Recently the site has been seeing increased load and as a stop gap we want to shift all the static content on the site to a cookieless domains, e.g. http://static.thedomain.com. The application is not well understood. So to give the developers time to amend the code to point their links to the static content server (http://static.thedomain.com) I thought about proxying the site through nginx and rewriting the outgoing responses such that links to /images/... are rewritten as http://static.thedomain.com/images/.... So for example, in the response from Apache to nginx there is a blob of Headers + HTML. In the HTML returned from Apache we have <img> tags that look like: <img src="/images/someimage.png" /> I want to transform this to: <img src="http://static.thedomain.com/images/someimage.png" /> So that the browser upon receiving the HTML page then requests the images directly from the static content server. Is this possible with nginx (or HAProxy)? I have had a cursory glance through the docs but nothing jumped out at me except rewriting inbound urls.

    Hi, I want to create toolbar, whose functionality would be: Whenever the toolbar is "On/Activated", all pages should be parsed by a function, and the modified html should be displayed. [Example: i) There was this skype toolbar that would recognize phone-numbers in pages and automatically add skype links ii) If you have used MacAfee / Alexa toolbars, they modify the search results page displayed by Google My functionality would a lot simpler though] I want to create this for all browsers (though answers/pointers to any one platform would be appreciated). Please note that I am new to toolbar development, so detailed pointers from basics would be very helpful. I have heard to GreaseMonkey. However, if I can do it in a more "basic" way, it would be very helpful. (Alternately, tips to make a "custom" toolbar using GreaseMonkey would be welcome - though I would like to do away with ability to add scripts, etc. Also I installed greasemonkey and it does show up as a toolbar in FF/IE at all!   • Help me make a jquery AJAXed divs' links work like an iframe.

    I want to make a few divs on the same page work similar to iframes. Each will load a URL which contains links. When you click on those links I want an AJAX request to go out and replace the div's html with new html from the page of the clicked link. It will be very similar to surfing a page inside an iframe.   • Handling a mix of server side code and html in a resource file?

    I'm trying to convert an ASP.NET web application to use resource files. I haven't used resource files before, so I'm just toying around with them and was wondering if this is possible. I have a message that returns from a search when no results are found, that prompts the user to return to the home page. A lot of these pages have methods to determine what is the proper page to send the user to, so there are many sections with markup similar to this: Sorry, but we could not find an item matching your search criteria. Please adjust your search criteria or <a href="<%= SomeMethodToDetermineUri() %>">return to (SomePage)</a>. So basically, some type of message, followed by a link or a list of links. Getting the message part works fine, it's the server side code to generate links thats the problem. What is the best way to put that into a resource file? It is able to recognize the html link part just fine, but the server side code gets inserted as plain text. Is the only way to break it into 2 resources? (Which seems messy) <%= Resources.Master.NoSearchResultsFound %> <a href="<%= SomeMethodToDetermineUri() %>"> <%= Resources.Master.NoSearchResultsFoundReturnLinkText %> </a>. Or is there a way to get the page to evaluate the server code?

So my expected output would be something like this: <div id="canvas"> <div id="root"> <div id="content"> <span> <title>My SVG Example Title</title> <input type="text" value="this is the innerHTML I must insert but how?" /> </span> </div> </div> </div>

  • AngularJS Templates run twice

    I'm working on an AngularJS web app with Twitter Bootstrap. The templates run twice. I don't know why they do this.   • Apache form authentication issues

    I am trying to authenticate users through Apache using the form authentication method to restrict https requests to a certain folder. Although, regardless of whether the correct login details are provided it keeps reloading the same page except the url has the form values embedded in it instead of redirecting to the appropriate page. I need to use the form authentication type instead of basic so I can write my own html for the user to login. I am using Apache 2.4.9 and this is our current configuration. Apache config file <Location C:/wamp/www/directory> SetHandler form-login-handler AuthFormLoginRequiredLocation https://localNetwork.com/username/TestBed/HTML/login.html AuthFormLoginSuccessLocation https://localNetwork.com/username/TestBed/HTML/test.html AuthFormProvider file AuthUserFile "C:/wamp/passwords" AuthType form AuthName realm Session On SessionCookieName session path=/ SessionCryptoPassphrase secret </Location> And in the login html page I've added that for the user to login <form method="POST" action="/test.html"> User: <input type="text" name="httpd_username" value="" /> Pass: <input type="password" name="httpd_password" value="" /> <input type="submit" name="login" value="Login" /> </form>

    I'm trying to use Qt to download the html code from the following url: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?db=nucleotide&cmd=search&term=AB100362 this url will re-direct to www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/nuccore/27884304 I try to do it by following way, but I cannot get anything. it works for some webpage such as www.google.com, but not for this NCBI page. is there any way to get this page??     Is there a way to rotate an html table? So, say I had a table like this: <table id="table-1" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="2"> <tr><td>1</td></tr> <tr><td>2</td></tr> <tr><td>3</td></tr> <tr><td>4</td></tr> <tr><td>5</td></tr> <tr><td>6</td></tr> </table> and wanted to some sort of button that had javascript behind it that could rotate the table any which direction. For example, clicking the right button, results in: <table id="table-1" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="2"> <tr><td>6</td><td>5</td><td>4</td><td>3</td><td>2</td><td>1</td></tr> </table> I have a drag and drop plugin that uses a table, and I am trying to do a piece that allows for a user to add to a queue (that results in the table), and then they can also rotate it around as well.
