Making hovor state of hidden list visible when page is active

Hi guys, One day I hope to not be such a newbie on this stuff, but some of this feels so insurmountable sometimes! OK. I have a nav bar with hidden li items that are visible when hovered over. Now I think I could figure that out on my own, but you can see on the live page that if the user is on a page from the innerlist and that list was visible, then if they hovered over the other nav tab, then those innerlists would overlap. This is a problem. Hopefully that last sentence makes sense! In short: I need to keep the inner list of the active page displaying, BUT if the user hovers over another nav button WITH it's own inner list, then the live innerlist needs to disappear. Clear as mud?

Cascading updates with business key equality: Hibernate best practices?

I'm new to Hibernate, and while there are literally tons of examples to look at, there seems to be so much flexibility here that it's sometimes very hard to narrow all the options down the best way of doing things. I've been working on a project for a little while now, and despite reading through a lot of books, articles, and forums, I'm still left with a bit of a head scratcher. Any veteran advice would be very appreciated. So, I have a model involving two classes with a one-to-many relationship from parent to child. Since the persistent and transient Container objects have the same business key values, what we really want is to issue an update. It is easy enough to convince Hibernate that our new Container instance is the same as our old one. With a quick query we can get the identifier of the Container we'd like to update, and set our transient object's identifier to match. My question is: what is the best practice in this situation? It is highly recommended to use surrogate primary keys, and it is also recommended to use business key equality. When you put these two recommendations in to practice together, however, two of the greatest conveniences of Hibernate--saveOrUpdate and cascading operations--seem to be rendered almost completely useless. As I see it, I have only two options: Manually fetch and set the identifier for each object in the mapping. This clearly works, but for even a moderately sized schema this is a lot of extra work which it seems Hibernate could easily be doing. Write a custom interceptor to fetch and set object identifiers on each operation. This looks cleaner than the first option but is rather heavy-handed, and it seems wrong to me that you should be expected to write a plug-in which overrides Hibernate's default behavior for a mapping which follows the recommended design. Is there a better way? Am I making completely the wrong assumptions? I'm hoping that I'm just missing something. Thanks.

Problem with building tree bottom up

Hi, I have problems building a binary tree from the bottom up. THe input of the tree would be internal nodes of the trees with the children of this node being the leaves of the eventual tree. So initially if the tree is empty the root would be the first internal node. Afterwards, The next internal node to be added would be the new root(NR), with the old root(OR) being one of the child of NR. And so on. The problem i have is that whenever i add a NR, the children of the OR seems to be lost when i do a inOrder traversal. This is proven to be the case when i do a getSize() call which returns the same number of nodes before and after addNode(Tree,Node) Any help with resolving this problem is appreciated edited with the inclusion of node class code. both tree and node classes have the addChild methods because i'm not very sure where to put them for it to be appropriated. any comments on this would be appreciated too. spring web application context is not loaded from jar file in WEB-INF/lib when running tomcat in eclipse

I am experimenting with spring, maven, and eclipse but stumbling on a weird issue. I am running Eclipse Helios SR1 with the STS (Spring tools suite) plugin which includes the Maven plugin also. What i want to achieve is a spring mvc webapp which uses an application context loaded from a local application context xml file, but also from other application contexts in jar files dependencies included in WEB-INF/lib. What i'd ultimately like to do is have my persistence layer separated in its own jar file but containing its own spring context files with persistence specific configuration (e.g a jpa entityManagerFactory for example). So to experiment with loading resources from jar dependencies, i created a simple maven project from eclipse, which defines an applicationContext.xml file in src/main/resources Inside, i define a bean <bean id="mybean" class="org.test.MyClass" /> and create the class in the org.test package I run mvn-install from eclipse, which generates me a jar file containing my class and the applicationContext.xml file: testproj.jar |_META-INF |_org |_test |_MyClass.class |_applicationContext.xml I then create a spring mvc project from the Spring template projects provided by STS. I have configured an instance of Tomcat 7.0.8 , and also an instance of springSource tc Server within eclipse. Deploying the newly created project on both servers works without problem. I then add my previous project as a maven dependency of the mvc project. the jar file is correctly added in the Maven Dependencies of the project. In the web.xml that is generated, i now want to load the applicationContext.xml from the jar file as well as the existing one generated for the project. Delphi - Using DeviceIoControl passing IOCTL_DISK_GET_LENGTH_INFO to get flash media physical size (Not Partition)

It appears I was doing something wrong with the suggestions and at this point have come up with an error when using the suggested API to get the media size. Those new to my problem I am working at the physical disk level, not within the confines of a partition or file system. I placed a second method button on the form so I can write a different set of code into the app if I feel like it. Only minimal error handling and safeguards are there is nothing that wasn't necessary for debugging this via source. I tried this on a Sony Memory Stick using a PSP as the reader because I cant find the adapter for using a duo in my machine. The target is an MS and half of my users use a PSP for a reader half dont. However this should work fine on SD cards and that is a secondary target for my work as well. I tried this on a usb memory card reader and several SD cards. Now that I have fixed my attempt I get an error returned. 50 ERROR_NOT_SUPPORTED The request is not supported. I have found an application that uses this API as well as alot of related functions for what I am trying todo. I am getting ready to look into it the application is called DriveImage and its source is here - http://sourceforge.net/projects/diskimage/ The only thing I have really noticed from that application is there use of TFileStream and using that to get a handle on the physical disk.

improving conversions to binary and back in C#

I'm trying to write a general purpose socket server for a game I'm working on. I know I could very well use already built servers like SmartFox and Photon, but I wan't to go through the pain of creating one myself for learning purposes. I've come up with a BSON inspired protocol to convert the the basic data types, their arrays, and a special GSObject to binary and arrange them in a way so that it can be put back together into object form on the client end. At the core, the conversion methods utilize the .Net BitConverter class to convert the basic data types to binary. Anyways, the problem is performance, if I loop 50,000 times and convert my GSObject to binary each time it takes about 5500ms (the resulting byte[] is just 192 bytes per conversion). I think think this would be way too slow for an MMO that sends 5-10 position updates per second with a 1000 concurrent users. Yes, I know it's unlikely that a game will have a 1000 users on at the same time, but like I said earlier this is supposed to be a learning process for me, I want to go out of my way and build something that scales well and can handle at least a few thousand users. So yea, if anyone's aware of other conversion techniques or sees where I'm loosing performance I would appreciate the help. Logging with log4j on tomcat jruby-rack for a Rails 3 application

I just spent the better part of 3 hours trying to get my Rails application logging with Log4j. I've finally got it working, but I'm not sure if what I did is correct. I tried various methods to no avail until my various last attempt. So I'm really looking for some validation here, perhaps some pointers and tips as well -- anything would be appreciated to be honest. I've summarized all my feeble methods into three attempts below. I'm hoping for some enlightenment on where I went wrong with each attempt -- even if it means I get ripped up. Thanks for the help in advance! System Specs Rails 3.0 Windows Server 2008 Log4j 1.2 Tomact 6.0.29 Java 6 Attempt 1 - Configured Tomcat to Use Log4J I basically followed the guide on the Apache Tomcat website here. The steps are: Create a log4j.properties file in $CATALINA_HOME/lib Download and copy the log4j-x.y.z.jar into $CATALINA_HOME/lib Replace $CATALINA_HOME/bin/tomcat-juli.jar with the tomcat-juli.jar from the Apache Tomcat Extras folder Copy tomcat-juli-adapters.jar from the Apache Tomcat Extras folder into $CATALINA_HOME/lib Delete $CATALINA_BASE/conf/logging.properties Start Tomcat (as a service) Expected Results According to the Guide I should have seen a tomcat.log file in my $CATALINA_BASE/logs folder. So I though this would capture it. I was obviously wrong. Question Why didn't this work? Isn't Log4J using the commons_logging API? Attempt 3 - Tried out slf4j (WORKED) A bit uncertain as to why Attempt 2A didn't work, I thought to myself, maybe I can't use commons_logging for the jruby.rack.logging parameter because it's probably not using commons_logging API... (but I was still not sure). I saw slf4j as an option. I have never heard of it and by stroke of luck, I decided to look up what it is. After reading briefly about what it does, I thought it was good of a shot as any and decided to try it out following the instructions here. Continuing from the setup of Attempt 2A: Copied slf4j-api-1.6.1.jar and slf4j-simple-1.6.1.jar into my WEB-INF/lib folder I also copied slf4j-log4j12-1.6.1.jar into my WEB-INF/lib folder Restarted Tomcat And VIOLA! I now have logging information going into my rails3.log file. So the big question is: WTF? Even though logging seems to be working now, I'm really not sure if I did this right. So like I said earlier, I'm really looking for some validation more or less. I'd also appreciate any pointers/tips/advice if you have any. Thanks!

ASP.NET SQLMembership Provider not logging in

My web app uses the sql memebership provider. Running it locally all is well, deploying to a dev server it works fine too in firefox, but in IE8 something unexpected is happening. Once a user logs in they're supposed to be redirected to home.aspx. What's happening when I attempt to login is it appears to accept the login credentials but then doesn't redirect to home.aspx. Instead it just redirects me to the login page as though I had attempted to access home.aspx directly without being logged in. The url parameter ReturnUrl is appended, Login.aspx?ReturnUrl=%2fhome.aspx Why is this only happening with IE8? My local PC is IIS7 but the server is IIS6. C++: Declaration of template class member specialization (+ Doxygen bonus question!)

When I specialize a (static) member function/constant in a template class, I'm confused as to where the declaration is meant to go. The generic implementation is obviously in the header, but what about the specialization? It can't go in the header file, because it's concrete, leading to multiple definition. But if it goes into the .cpp file, is code which calls X::f() aware of the specialization, or might it rely on the generic X::f()? So far I've got the specialization in the .cpp only, with no declaration in the header. I'm not having trouble compiling or even running my code (on gcc, don't remember the version at the moment), and it behaves as expected - recognizing the specialization. But A) I'm not sure this is correct, and I'd like to know what is, and B) my Doxygen documentation comes out wonky and very misleading (more on that in a moment). Add child to scene from within a class.

Hi, I'm new to flash in general and have been writing a program with two classes that extend MovieClip (Stems and Star). I need to create a new Stems object as a child of the scene when the user stops dragging a Star object, but do not know how to reference the scene from within the Star class's code. I've tried passing the scene into the constructor of the Star and doing sometihng like: this.scene.addChild (new Stems ()); But apparently that's not how to do it... Accessing XML file using JavaScript And ASP.net |VB code

Am trying to read in data from an xml file but using javascript which is embedded into my asp.net|vb code. I am new to asp.net but coming from a programming background. so I declared the xml objects for the appropriate browsers, as well as the name of the local xml to read data from, I then start by appending the create the table tag and then append it to the div tag in hack5.aspx I declare the variable that will represent/ hold the xml returned data object. I then run a for loop , before creating a row tag and then appending it to the div tag in hack5.aspx I then create the a row tag and then appending it to the div tag in hack5.aspx | then create a TextNode which is passed to variable, then create a td and append to div . then lastly append the textnode to td this format is the same for creating another 13 td tags that are to hold the data. The main problem is when I run the script - I see nothing display on my screen . no errors are shown, but with your sample code runs smoothly. PHP MVC Framework Structure

I am sorry about the amount of code here. I have tried to show enough for understanding while avoiding confusion (I hope). I have included a second copy of the code at Pastebin. (The code does execute without error/notice/warning.) I am currently creating a Content Management System while trying to implement the idea of Model View Controller. I have only recently come across the concept of MVC (within the last week) and trying to implement this into my current project. One of the features of the CMS is dynamic/customisable menu areas and each feature will be represented by a controller. Therefore there will be multiple versions of the Controller Class, each with specific extended functionality. I have looked at a number of tutorials and read some open source solutions to the MVC Framework. I am now trying to create a lightweight solution for my specific requirements. I am not interested in backwards compatibility, I am using PHP 5.3. An advantage of the Base class is not having to use global and can directly access any loaded class using $this->Obj['ClassName']->property/function();. Hoping to get some feedback using the basic structure outlined (with performance in mind). Specifically; a) Have I understood/implemented the concept of MVC correctly? b) Have I understood/implemented Object Orientated techniques with PHP 5 correctly? c) Should the class propertise of Base be static? d) Improvements? The problem is that the content loads it displays UNDER the div i placed #CONTENT# inside so the styles are being ignored and it's posting #CONTENT# outside the divs at positions 0,0 any suggestions? Found out whats happening by using "View Source" seems that it's putting all of the #CONTENT#, content that's being loaded in front of the <head> tag. Hi, Firstly this has turned out to be quite a long post so please bear with me as its not too difficult but you may need to clarify something with me if i haven't explained it correctly. So with some help the other day from guys on this forum, i managed to partially set up my 'mapClass' class, but i'm having trouble with it and its not running correctly so i would like some help if possible. I will post the code below so you can see. What Ive got is a 'Dundrum' class which sets up the listView for an array of items. Then ive got a 'dundrumSelector' class which I use to set up the setOnClickListener() methods on the listItems and link them to their correct views. The onClick() events don't even work from the listView to get into the correct views. I have to comment out the methods in 'DundrumSelector' before I can get into their views. And this is what I dont understand, firstly why wont the onClick() events work, because its not even on that next view where the map is. I know this is a very long post and it might be quite confusing so let me know if you want any clarification.. Just to recap, what i'm trying to do is just have one class that sets up the map coordinates, like what i'm trying to do in my 'mapClass'. I have a solution with 3 project in it all written in c# and I with LINQ. One project is the main web site, the other is the data layer (communication with the database) and the third one is a custom little CMS. C++0x rvalue references - lvalues-rvalue binding

This is a follow-on question to http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2748866/c0x-rvalue-references-and-temporaries In the previous question, I asked how this code should work: void f(const std::string &); //less efficient void f(std::string &&); //more efficient void g(const char * arg) { f(arg); } It seems that the move overload should probably be called because of the implicit temporary, and this happens in GCC but not MSVC (or the EDG front-end used in MSVC's Intellisense). What about this code? void f(std::string &&); //NB: No const string & overload supplied void g1(const char * arg) { f(arg); } void g2(const std::string & arg) { f(arg); } It seems that, based on the answers to my previous question that function g1 is legal (and is accepted by GCC 4.3-4.5, but not by MSVC). However, GCC and MSVC both reject g2 because of clause 13.3.3.1.4/3, which prohibits lvalues from binding to rvalue ref arguments. I understand the rationale behind this - it is explained in N2831 "Fixing a safety problem with rvalue references". I also think that GCC is probably implementing this clause as intended by the authors of that paper, because the original patch to GCC was written by one of the authors (Doug Gregor). However, I don't this is quite intuitive. To me, (a) a const string & is conceptually closer to a string && than a const char *, and (b) the compiler could create a temporary string in g2, as if it were written like this: void g2(const std::string & arg) { f(std::string(arg)); } Indeed, sometimes the copy constructor is considered to be an implicit conversion operator. Syntactically, this is suggested by the form of a copy constructor, and the standard even mentions this specifically in clause 13.3.3.1.2/4, where the copy constructor for derived-base conversions is given a higher conversion rank than other implicit conversions: A conversion of an expression of class type to the same class type is given Exact Match rank, and a conversion of an expression of class type to a base class of that type is given Conversion rank, in spite of the fact that a copy/move constructor (i.e., a user-defined conversion function) is called for those cases. (I assume this is used when passing a derived class to a function like void h(Base), which takes a base class by value.) Motivation My motivation for asking this is something like the question asked in http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2696156/how-to-reduce-redundant-code-when-adding-new-c0x-rvalue-reference-operator-over ("How to reduce redundant code when adding new c++0x rvalue reference operator overloads"). If you have a function that accepts a number of potentially-moveable arguments, and would move them if it can (e.g. a factory function/constructor: Object create_object(string, vector<string>, string) or the like), and want to move or copy each argument as appropriate, you quickly start writing a lot of code. If the argument types are movable, then one could just write one version that accepts the arguments by value, as above. But if the arguments are (legacy) non-movable-but-swappable classes a la C++03, and you can't change them, then writing rvalue reference overloads is more efficient. So if lvalues did bind to rvalues via an implicit copy, then you could write just one overload like create_object(legacy_string &&, legacy_vector<legacy_string> &&, legacy_string &&) and it would more or less work like providing all the combinations of rvalue/lvalue reference overloads - actual arguments that were lvalues would get copied and then bound to the arguments, actual arguments that were rvalues would get directly bound. Questions My questions are then: Is this a valid interpretation of the standard? It seems that it's not the conventional or intended one, at any rate. Does it make intuitive sense? Is there a problem with this idea that I"m not seeing? It seems like you could get copies being quietly created when that's not exactly expected, but that's the status quo in places in C++03 anyway. Also, it would make some overloads viable when they're currently not, but I don't see it being a problem in practice. Is this a significant enough improvement that it would be worth making e.g. an experimental patch for GCC?

I am getting all confused about how to solve this problem in Linq. I have a working solution, but the code to do it is way too complicated and circular I think: I have a timesheet application in MVC 2. I want to query the database that has the following tables (simplified): Project Task TimeSegment The relationships are as follows: A project can have many tasks and a task can have many timesegments. I need to be able to query this in different ways. An example is this: A View is a report that will show a list of projects in a table. Each project's tasks will be listed followed by a Sum of the number of hours worked on that task. The timesegment object is what holds the hours. I sense there must be a much easier way to achieve what I want. Basically you can tell from the View what I want to achieve: I want to get a collection of projects. Each project should have it's associated collection of tasks. And each task should have it's associated collection of timesegments for the specified date period. Note that the projects and tasks selected must also only be the projects and tasks that have the timesegments for this period. I don't want all projects and tasks that have no timesegments within this period. It seems the group by Linq query beginning the GetProjects() method sort of achieves this (if extended to have the conditions for date and so on), but I can't return this and pass it to the view, because it is an anonymous object. I also tried creating a specific type in such a query, but couldn't wrap my head around that either... I hope there is something I'm missing and there is some easier way to achieve this, because I need to be able to do several other different queries as well eventually. I also don't really like the way I solved it with the "CurrentTimeSegments" properties and so on. These properties don't really exist on the model objects in the first place, I added them in partial classes to have somewhere to put the filtered results for each part of the nested object chain... Any ideas?

Netbeans Java SE GUI Builder: private initComponents() problem

When I build a GUI for my Java SE app with Netbeans GUI builder, it puts all the codes in the initComponents() method which is private. I could not change it to public. So, all the components are accessible only to the class containing the UI. I want to access those components from another class so that I can write custom event handlers and everything. Most importantly I want to separate my GUI code and non-GUI from each other. I can copy paste the GUI code and later make them public by hand to achieve what I want. But thats a pain. I have to handcraft a portion whenever I need to re-design the UI. What I tried to do: I used the variable identifier to make the text box public. Now how can I access the text box from the Main class? I think I need the component generated in a public method as well. I am new to Java. Any helps? Problem creating calculations 'engine' in two class java calculator

i have hit a brick wall whilst attempting to create a two class java calculator but have been unsuccessful so far in getting it working. i have the code for an interface which works and displays ok but creating a seperate class 'CalcEngine' to do the actual calculations has proven to be beyond me. I'd appreciate it if someone could kick start things for me and create a class calcEngine which works with the interface class and allows input when from single button i.e. if one is pressed on the calc then 1 displays onscreen. please note i'm not asking someone to do the whole thing for me as i want to learn and i'm confident i can do the rest including addition subtraction etc. once i get over the obstacle of getting the two classes to communicate. any and all assistance would be very much appreciated. Swing object: first setText() gets "stuck" when using Mac Java SE 6

Hi there, I am a Java newbie trying to maintain an application that works fine under J2SE 5.0 (32- and 64-bit) but has a very specific problem when run under Java SE 6 64-bit: [Tims-MPB:~] tlynch% java -version java version "1.6.0_15" Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_15-b03-226) Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 14.1-b02-92, mixed mode) The application is cross-platform and reportedly works correctly on Java SE 6 under Windows, though I haven't been able to verify that myself. The program uses a JTextField for some text entry and a JLabel to indicate the text to be entered.
