  • Conditionally changing MIME type in nginx

    I'm using nginx as a frontend to Rails. All pages are cached as .html files on disk, and nginx serves these files if they exist. I want to send the correct MIME type for feeds (application/rss+xml), but the way I have so far is quite ugly, and I'm wondering if there is a cleaner way. All cached files have .html extensions and I cannot change this. Is there a way to factor out the if conditions in /feed/$ and /? I understand that I can use include, but I'm hoping for a better way. Putting part of the config in a different file is not that readable. Can you spot any bugs in the if conditions? I'm using nginx 0.6.32 (Debian Lenny). I prefer to use the version in APT. Thanks.

  • Redircting to a url that has a question mark in it?

    I have a somewhat strange problem. A client has moved their site to Wordpress. They use a service for link exchanges that has a Wordpress plugin. The issue is that the new links pages use a query string to display the correct content and I cannot figure out how to redirect the old URLs correctly. Old URLs look like this: domain.com/link/category-name.html The plugin makes them look like this in WP: domain.com/links/?page=category-name.html How in the world can I get the redirect to work properly? Here's what I have tried: Redirect 301 /link/actors.html http://www.artisticimages.biz/links/?page=actors.html Redirect 301 /link/actors.html http://www.artisticimages.biz/links/%3Fpage=actors.html Redirect 301 /link/actors.html http://www.artisticimages.biz/links/\?page=actors.html But none of those have worked. Any help is greatly appreciated!

  • Juju Openstack bundle: Can't launch an instance

    Deployed bundle:~makyo/openstack/2/openstack, on top of 7 physical boxes and 3 virtual ones. After changing vip_iface strings to point to right devices, e.g., br0 instead of eth0, and defining "/mnt/loopback|30G", in Cinder's block-device string, am able to navigate through openstack dashboard, error free. Following http://docs.openstack.org/grizzly/openstack-compute/install/apt/content/running-an-instance.html instructions, attempted to launch cirros 0.3.1 image; however, novalist shows the instance in First I am using APC so PHP is in control of it's own processes, not FastCGI.     I'm about to start development of small purpose build intranet web application for small software vendor. It will be administration console of the server managing licenses for off-the-shelf software installed by users. There will be a few users who need to be able to sign in, issue a batch of license codes, revoke some, renew outdated, resolve issues, etc. Bear in mind that my customer requires Java for this solution. I'm seasoned Java programmer and before I used different frameworks to implement webapps, mainly Apache Struts in the past and Spring MVC recently. I was wondering what else could you recommend for such specific intranet webapp. I looked at using Google Web Toolkit (possibly with SmartGWT) Ext JS for fancy widgets in UI and REST back-end in SpringMVC SpringMVC with JQueryUI Could you please think of any piece of recommendation with regard to the choice I'm going to made?

  • Has anyone been able to convert a site's media content from flash to html5?

    I'm looking to convert a site from Flash based video to HTML5, the current video uses time marks to display slides (kind of like how youtube has ads on their videos). But the difference between Youtube and my site is that it doesn't show up inside the video, the slides are displayed next to the video. Is there any way I can accomplish this with HTML5? Or do I have to use Javascript for this? If this isn't clear enough, please let me know.

  • Can I get advice on my nginx configuration (as a proxy in front of Jira and Confluence)?

The basic idea is to have a Jira and Confluence server (in separate Tomcat instances) running on the same machine, with nginx in front to handle SSL for both. I want only SSL connections to be made to Jira/Confluence. Jira is running on 127.0.0.1:9090 and Confluence on 127.0.0.1:8080.     How do I need to format a text file so that it can be read by an SMTP service to send an e-mail that has an attachment? We have a server where we are using II6 SMTP to send mail from a Pickup folder. The goal is to drop a properly formatted text file into Mailroot\Pickup and then the file will be automatically processed and sent to the correct SMTP recipient. For simple files, this works correctly. Here's an example of a simple file that works (domain names changed): From:[email protected] To:[email protected] Subject:Hello World! Test Body Of The E-mail When I drop a text file containing the above contents into the Mailroot\Pickup folder, it sends correctly. However, I haven't been able to figure out how to get an attachment to work. I found some material that explained how to encode an SMTP attachment and another tool for simple base64 encoding conversion. Using the information on those pages, I came up with the following text: From:[email protected] To:[email protected] Subject:Hello World!     I have searched and could not find any information about it. What is the best approach to storing revisions? I have a website where the user can write a document which can be fairly long (200-300 lines). How do you determine when to make a revision? Is it not a scalable solution to make a new one whenever the save, because that would be useless to the user when the want to look back, and it would require quite a lot of space. You could use time and say for every 15 minute they are working on it there would be a revision, but that would sometimes be nothing or the whole document have completely changed. I could make a diff from the previous revision, and compare by line and look at how many percent of the lines have been changed. What are other doing revisions?

  • How can I associate html/htm files with Chrome in Windows 7 64 bit?

    I want Chrome to open all .html files. It is currently set as my default browser, however html files open in IE9. When I go to Control Panel\Programs\Default Programs\Set Associations I see that .html and .htm files are associated with IE. When I choose to change the default program it I'm presented with a list of programs but Chrome is not one of them. I browse to, and then select the Chrome.exe (C:\Users\Matt\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe) but it goes right back to IE. This is the first time I've seen anything like this. I'm running Windows 7 64 bit. I never had this problem on Windows 7 32 bit. Is this because Chrome by default installs in the User directory, not the Program Files directory? How can I fix these file associations? EDIT: It's not that things are reverting back to IE after associating them with Chrome. When I browse to Chrome in the file association window, and select it, it doesn't seem to take. It doesn't show Chrome in the list of programs despite pointing to the Chrome.exe location. I really think this has something to do with the fact that it doesn't install into the Program File Directory.

    I've been checking out some of the latest multiplayer engines in HTML all supporting multi-user games (Very nice) - I believe all these engines use Web Sockets for communication. That’s why we’ve decided to disable support for WebSocket in Firefox 4, starting with beta 8 due to a protocol-level security issue. Beta 7 of Firefox has support for the -76 version of the protocol, the same version that’s included with Chrome and Safari. Beta 8 of Firefox 4 will remove that support. Anne van Kesteren of Opera also announced that Opera are dropping Websocket support. We are confident that other browser developers will follow. Is anyone aware of an alternate or is it Chrome or do we need to just sit and wait for the next release of the major browsers. More info : Rocket Engine appears to work with all browsers including IE8 (http://rocketpack.fi/engine/) what will it be using as a method of communication?

  • apache httpd.conf - virtualhost configuration

    I'm new to apache and httpd.conf The problem I'm having is I need different website to go to different vhost configs and if only the IP is requested it needs to go to the root index.html This works fine for the virtualhosts: <VirtualHost *:80> DocumentRoot /var/www/html/bali-accommodation.co ServerName www.bali-accommodation.co </VirtualHost> <VirtualHost *:80> DocumentRoot /var/www/html/balibeach.co ServerName www.balibeach.co </VirtualHost> <VirtualHost *:80> DocumentRoot /var/www/html/dating-website.co ServerName www.dating-website.co </VirtualHost> However when I just specify the IP it does to www.XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX (appends the www). I know in the websites there is a .htaccess redirect that adds the www but I didn't want the IP to go into the vhosts config. I tried adding this to the top of the Vhost config: <VirtualHost *:80> DocumentRoot /var/www/html ServerName localhost </VirtualHost> with above it shows the index.html perfectly but all the websites go into this catch all. I've also tried this for the websites vhosts: DocumentRoot /var/www/html/bali-accommodation.co ServerName www.bali-accommodation.co I've tried the above with and without the 'www' in the first line unsuccessfully. Is there a way to have the vhosts work for the domains and if someone just enters the IP it goes to the root index.html? /var/www/html/index.html? thankyou so much Adam

  • Basic procedural generated content works, but how could I do the same in reverse?

    My 2D world is made up of blocks. At the moment, I create a block and assign it a number between 1 and 4. The number assigned to the nth block is always the same (i.e if the player walks backwards or restarts the game.) and is generated in the function below. As shown here by this animation, the colours represent the number. function generate_data(n) math.randomseed(n) -- resets the random so that the 'random' number for n is always the same math.random() -- fixes lua random bug local no = math.random(4) --print(no, n) return no end Now I want to limit the next block's number - a block of 1 will always have a block 2 after it, while block 2 will either have a block 1,2 or 3 after it, etc. Before, all the blocks data was randomly generated, initially, and then saved. This data was then loaded and used instead of being randomly called. While working this way, I could specify what the next block would be easily and it would be saved for consistency. I have now removed this saving/loading in favour of procedural generation as I realised that save whiles would get very big after travelling. Back to the present. While travelling forward (to the right), it is easy to limit what the next blocks number will be. I can generate it at the same time as the other data. The problem is when travelling backwards (to the left) I can not think of a way to load the previous block so that it is always the same. Does anyone have any ideas on how I could sort this out?

  • Browser language detection & content ranking for new language on the same site.

    I've been reading a lot about it but it's still really hard to make up my mind. My understand is that if your website provide a link to the other language, this should not be an issue for google as long as your links are clear and clean, google will be able to make his way through it. The website was orginaly in french and I added the english version and I'm just worry that english speaker will just leave if the site is not in the correct language, for the home page I just wanted to get the value from the browser and redirect it to /fr/ or /en/ for the first page. (using php this will be very easy) Could you guys have a look at it and tell me what you think about it http://tinyurl.com/bpc5bn9 I don't want to get it wrong and lost my ranking with google. Also the website has good rank on the french side and the english has been online for 2 weeks and only get few visit a day, is that because all the back link refer to /fr/ and google is cleaver enough to decide that they are 2 differantes website and the back link will have to point to /en/ to increase the ranking value? Here's the scenario: We have employees all over the world performing similar work i.e. research, generating powerpoint slides, word documents, graphics, etc. Many times a lot of this previous work can be reused for another future project. The current arrangement is email and phone calls which as you would agree is quick if you know where to look but otherwise archaic and very very inefficient. So I am looking for software that will allow me to do the following: Tag files e.g. an investor presentation on cellphone usage in kenya would be tagged investor, cellphone, kenya Manage references e.g. if we read something on the internet, should be able to paste that link in some fashion and tag it as above. Preferably cloud based so that it can be accessed by anybody and additionally would be nice (though NOT must) to have access levels (director, manager, everyone) A nice interface that non technically savvy folks can warm up to ;) A desktop app would be handy so that people don't always have to click upload or something A tree based system is inefficient in this case because content is usually linked across branches and also people might not quite agree on one format of a tree. Tagging works around this very nicely. What I have considered so far: Evernote (for its more professional look) Springpad (for its versatility with content) Mendeley (this is a research manager and in some ways ideal, but i fear its limited to PDFs) The goal is that when somebody wants to look for a document, they don't have to ask a colleague, they can just search with keywords and all relevant information shows up.   • Making Multilingual J! 1.5 + + Joomfish + VM 1.17 more workable

    I have been working with a multilingual Joomla! 1.5.23 e-commerce website for a client for quite a while and made several customizations. But the client is still not happy he has to adjust content at at least three locations: Joomfish Virtuemart Article Manager Joomfish is nice in the way that it allows you to create multilingual content and copy and paste the source language on the same page, which makes translation work easier but it is annoying in the way you have to edit several custom fields at different locations/ content types. As Joomla! source language content still needs to be created in the article manager first this is the second location the client has to work at. The third location is Virtuemart. Here all the products and product categories are created. And here we added some custom fields as well. Now I was considering upgrading the website to Joomla 1.7 or later on to 1.8. This J! versions have better multilingual support. But I wonder if er can really make the client's life easier. We will still have to copy the source language to a new article and create content in another language. We will still have the issue of content in custom fields that needs to be translated and we will still have to create content. Should I go for another CMS such as Magento or do you think there is a way in a more recent Joomla! version to work with all content in one or max two locations?
