• When and where to call the RemoveHandler in VB.NET?

  I am working to a VB.NET windows forms projet in .NET 1.1. And I have this type of architecture, very simplified. Public MustInherit Class BaseTestLogic Private _TimerPoll As Timer Public Sub New(ByVal sym As SymbolFileMng, ByVal cfg As LampTestConfig, ByVal daas As DaasManager, ByVal mcf As Elux.Wg.Lpd.MCFs.VMCF) AddHandler _TimerPoll.Tick, AddressOf TimerPoll_Tick End Sub End Class Public Class SpecificTestLogic Inherits BaseTestLogic End Class Depending of the type of test I am doing I create an instance of a specific test derived from BaseTestLogic. But I found that after hundreds of object creations I can have StackOverflow exception. I checked my code and saw that I forgot to remove the handler to Timer Tick. The question is, where and when is it correct to remove hadler? Do I need to implement the IDisposable interface in the base class and RemoveHandler in Dispose?

• Parse HTML with PHP's HTML DOMDocument

  I was trying to do it with "getElementsByTagName", but it wasn't working, I'm new to using DOMDocument to parse HTML, as I used to use regex until yesterday some kind fokes here told me that DOMEDocument would be better for the job, so I'm giving it a try :) I google around for a while looking for some explains but didn't find anything that helped (not with the class anyway) So I want to capture "Capture this text 1" and "Capture this text 2" and so on. • Rendering ASP.NET MVC Razor Views outside of MVC revisited

  Last year I posted a detailed article on how to render Razor Views to string both inside of ASP.NET MVC and outside of it. In that article I showed several different approaches to capture the rendering output. The first and easiest is to use an existing MVC Controller Context to render a view by simply passing the controller context which is fairly trivial and I demonstrated a simple ViewRenderer class that simplified the process down to a couple lines of code. However, if no Controller Context is available the process is not quite as straight forward and I referenced an old, much more complex example that uses my RazorHosting library, which is a custom self-contained implementation of the Razor templating engine that can be hosted completely outside of ASP.NET. While it works inside of ASP.NET, it’s an awkward solution when running inside of ASP.NET, because it requires a bit of setup to run efficiently.Well, it turns out that I missed something in the original article, namely that it is possible to create a ControllerContext, if you have a controller instance, even if MVC didn’t create that instance. Creating a Controller Instance outside of MVCThe trick to make this work is to create an MVC Controller instance – any Controller instance – and then configure a ControllerContext through that instance. Nice.So using the ViewRenderer class from the previous article I can now very easily render an MVC view outside of the context of MVC. This includes modules like the above, which when they error often need to display error output. In other cases I need to generate string template output for emailing or logging data to disk. • Mysql Algorithm for Determining Closest Colour Match

  I'm attempting to create a true mosaic application. At the moment I have one mosaic image, ie the one the mosaic is based on and about 4000 images from my iPhoto library that act as the image library. I have already done my research and analysed the mosaic image. I've converted it into 64x64 slices each of 8 pixels. I've calculated the average colour for each slice and assertain the r, g, b and brightness (Luminance (perceived option 1) = (0.299*R + 0.587*G + 0.114*B)) value. I have done the same for each of the image library photos. The mosaic slices table looks like so. slice_id, slice_image_id, slice_slice_id, slice_image_column, slice_image_row, slice_colour_hex, slice_rgb_red, slice_rgb_blue, slice_rgb_green, slice_rgb_brightness The image library table looks like so. upload_id, upload_file, upload_colour_hex, upload_rgb_red, upload_rgb_green, upload_rgb_blue, upload_rgb_brightness So basically I'm reading the image slices from the slices table into PHP and then pulling out the appropriate images from the library table based on the colour hexs. My trouble is that I've been on this too long and probably had too many energy drinks so am not concentrating properly, I can't figure out the way to pick out the nearest colour neighbor if the appropriate hex code doesn't exist. Any ideas on the perfect query? NB: I know pulling out the slices one by one is not ideal however the mosaic is only rebuilt periodically so a sudden burst in the mysql load doesn't really bother me, however if there us a way to pull the images out all at once that would also be a massive bonus.

  I'm trying to archive a task which turns out to be a bit complicated since I'm not very good at Python metaprogramming. I want to have a module locations with function get_location(name), which returns a class defined in a folder locations/ in the file with the name passed to function. Name of a class is something like NameLocation. So, my folder structure: program.py locations/ __init__.py first.py second.py program.py will be smth with with: from locations import get_location location = get_location('first') and the location is a class defined in first.py smth like this: from locations import Location # base class for all locations, defined in __init__ (?) class FirstLocation(Location): pass etc. Okay, I've tried a lot of import and getattribute statements but now I'm bored and surrender. How to archive such behaviour?

• Accessing ImageButton Contents

  I am representing a Solar-System's planets with ImageButtons that show the planet's image on the surface of the button, and hold the planet's important data.. name, distance from sun, etc within an instance of a Planet class, stored within the ImageButton.Content property. When the ImageButton is selected, I am attempting to access and display the Planet class's data for the selected Planet. Although ((ImageButton)e.OriginalSource).Content permits viewing all of the Planet class's properties in the debugger, I haven't figured out how to access the Planet class properties directly, as in Pluto.DistanceFromTheSun? Is it possible to access the Planet class information held in the ImageButton contents directly?

  Hi there, I have a base class called Items and 3 derived classes, and within the Items base class i have a print function of the form public void print(){ System.out.println("ID " + id + " Title " + title + " <" + year + "> "); } and within every derived class I call the Items print function through super.print(); which is followed by a specific print function relating to the derived class. My problem is, whenever the printing is executed from one of the derived classes the printed text is not on the same line. So super.print() will be in the line above the derived class print function. How do I get them both to be on the same line?

  I have the following domain set up for persistence with NHibernate: I am using the PaperConfiguration as the root aggregate. I want to select all PaperConfiguration objects for a given Tier and AcademicYearConfiguration. This works really well as per the following example: ICriteria criteria = session.CreateCriteria<PaperConfiguration>() .Add(Restrictions.Eq("AcademicYearConfiguration", configuration)) .CreateCriteria("Paper") .CreateCriteria("Unit") .CreateCriteria("Tier") .Add(Restrictions.Eq("Id", tier.Id)) return criteria.List<PaperConfiguration>(); (Perhaps there is a better way of doing this though). Yet also need to know how many ReferenceMaterials there are for each PaperConfiguration and I would like to get it in the same call. Avoid HQL - I already have an HQL solution for it. I know this is what projections are for and this question suggests an idea but I can't get it to work.   I'm running into this little problem that I hope is just a dumb user error. It looks like some sort of a size limit with a query to a SQLite database. I managed to reproduce the issue with an in-memory DB and a simple script shown below. I can make it work by either reducing the number of records in the DB; or by reducing the size of each record; or by dropping the order_by() call. I am using Python 2.5.5 and SQLAlchemy 0.6.0 in a Cygwin environment.   Background So I am attempting to load a jnilib (specifically JOGL) into java on OSX at runtime. I have been following along the relevant stackoverflow questions: Maven and the JOGL Library Loading DLL in Java - Eclipse - JNI How to make a jar file that include all jar files The end goal for me is to package platform specific JOGL files into a jar and unzip them into a temp directory and load them at start-up. I worked my problem back to simply attempting to load JOGL using hard-coded paths: File f = new File("/var/folders/+n/+nfb8NHsHiSpEh6AHMCyvE+++TI/-Tmp-/libjogl.jnilib"); System.load(f.toString()); f = new File ("/var/folders/+n/+nfb8NHsHiSpEh6AHMCyvE+++TI/-Tmp-/libjogl_awt.jnilib"); System.load(f.toString()); I get the following exception when attempting to use the JOGL API: Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: no jogl in java.library.path But when I specify java.library.path by adding the following JVM option: -Djava.library.path="/var/folders/+n/+nfb8NHsHiSpEh6AHMCyvE+++TI/-Tmp-/" Everything works fine. Question Is it possible use System.load (or some other variant) on OSX as a replacement for -Djava.library.path that is invoked at runtime?

  Does R6RS or Chez Scheme v7.9.4 have a library function to check if a list contains duplicate elements? Alternatively, do either have any built in functionality for sets (which dis-allow duplicate elements)? So far, I've only been able to find an example here. The problem with that is that it doesn't appear to actually be part of the Chez Scheme library. Although I could write my own version of this, I'd much rather use a well known, tested, and maintained library function - especially given how basic an operation this is. So a simple "use these built-in functions" or a "no built-in library implements this" will suffice. Thanks!

  I have a class setup that looks something like this: public abstract class Parent { public virtual bool IsDeleted { get; set; } } public class Child : Parent { } public class Other { public virtual ICollection<Child> Children { get; set; } } Child is mapped as a joined-subclass of Parent. Childen is mapped as a Many-To-One bag. The bag has a filter applied to it named SoftDeletableFilter. The filter mapping looks like: <filter-def name="SoftDeleteableFilter" condition="(IsDeleted = 0 or IsDeleted is null)" /> That problem is that when Other.Children is loaded the filter is being applied to the Child table and not the parent table. Is there any way to tell NHibernate to apply the filter to the parent class?

If so, what should be the correct value? • C++/CLI managed thread cleanup

  Hi. I'm writing a managed C++/CLI library wrapper for the MySQL embedded server. The mysql C library requires me to call mysql_thread_init() for every thread that will be using it, and mysql_thread_end() for each thread that exits after using it. Debugging any given VB.Net project I can see at least seven threads; I suppose my library will see only one thread if VB doesn't explicitly create worker threads itself (any confirmations on that?). However, I need clients to my library to be able to create worker threads if they need to, so my library must be thread-aware to some degree. The first option I could think of is to expose some "EnterThread()" and "LeaveThread()" methods in my class, so the client code will explicitly call them at the beginning and before exiting their DoWork() method. This should work if (1) .Net doesn't "magically" create threads the user isn't aware of and (2) the user is careful enough to have the methods called in a try/finally structure of some sort. However, I don't like it very much to have the user handle things manually like that, and I wonder if I could give her a hand on that matter. In a pure Win32 C/C++ DLL I do have the DllMain DLL_THREAD_ATTACH and DLL_THREAD_DETACH pseudo-events, and I could use them for calling mysql_thread_init() and mysql_thread_end() as needed, but there seem to be no such thing in C++/CLI managed code. At the expense of some performance (not much, I think) I can use TLS for detecting the "usage from a new thread" case, but I can imagine no mechanism for the thread exiting case. So, my questions are: (1) could .net create application threads without the user being aware of them? and (2) is there any mechanism I could use similar to DLL_THREAD_ATTACH / DLL_THREAD_DETACH from managed C++/CLI? • Memory leak found with clang but cant release and autorelease crashes

  I have a class that builds a request based on a few passed in variables. The class also has all the delegate methods to receive the data and stores it in a property for the calling class to retrieve. When the class initializes it creates a connection and then returns itself: NSURLConnection *connection; if (self = [super init]) { self.delegate = theDelegate; ...some code here... connection = [[NSURLConnection alloc] initWithRequest:theRequest delegate:self startImmediately:YES]; } return self; So I can't release it normally and if I autorelease it crashes. Is it the job of the calling class to release? And if so does just releasing the initilised object also release connection or do you have to release it specifically? If so how would you? Thanks
