• Rewriting VB.NET Lambda experession as a C# statement

  I downgraded my app from version 4 of the framework to version 4 and now I want to implement this VB.NET lambda function statement (which works on 3.5) Dim colLambda As ColumnItemValueAccessor = Function(rowItem As Object) General_ItemValueAccessor(rowItem, colName) and rewrite it in C#. This was my attempt: ColumnItemValueAccessor colLambda = (object rowItem) => General_ItemValueAccessor(rowItem, colName); When I did this, I get the following error: Error 14 One or more types required to compile a dynamic expression cannot be found. Are you missing references to Microsoft.CSharp.dll and System.Core.dll? C:\Source\DotNet\SqlSmoke\SqlSmoke\UserControls\ScriptUserControl.cs 84 73 SqlSmoke However, when I downgraded the app from version 4.0 of the framework to 3.5 (because our users only hae 3.5 and don't have rights to install 4.0). when I did this, the reference to "Microsoft.CSharp" was broken. Can I rewrite the VB.NET command in C# using syntax that is valid in C# 3.5 as I was able to in VB.NET? What would the syntax be?

  To find an Assembly programmer is very hard to help me I'm a established Delphi programmer that has an old copy of Delphi that is not .net And I have a *.dll that I'm converting into Delphi code for .net I'm on a big learning curve hear as i know little of .net yet. I've just got a computer with .net today!!!!!! I've run the *.dll through a dissembler and started putting jump links in as writing in Delphi assembly you do not do any addressing, just reference links. The file has fixed string structures (i think C++) ASCII & ANSI strings 1/ I do not know how to identify how the code references these structures 2/ and I do not know were the functions begin and what shape they look like The code is free for any one to look at their is not many functions in it. but I have to email it as stack over flow will not allow me to display it. • Multilingual support using gettext with codeigniter, best practice?

  I know how to create .po files and how to generate .mo files and then use them for translation on my Codeigniter powered site. However, I'm not quite sure on how to change language from the site GUI. I want to stick to codeigniter's default url calling schema: www.domain.com/controllername/method/param1/param2. Calling the server like this is a no-brainer: www.domain.com/controllername?lang=en Doing that for every controller using the default url schema, requires me to implement the same method in every controller, just to pass the lang parameter to the setlocale() function and then bind to my .po domain name. Feels awkward... ANy ideas how you guys work with gettext in codeigniter? And yes, I do want to work with gettext.

• Should I put my output files in source control?

  I've been asked to put every single file in my project under source control, including the database file (not the schema, the complete file). This seems wrong to me, but I can't explain it. Every resource I find about source control tells me not to put generated output files in a source control system. And I understand, it's not "source" files. However, I've been presented with the following reasoning: Who cares? We have plenty of bandwidth. I don't mind having to resolve a conflict each time I get the latest revision, it's just one click It's so much more convenient than having to think about good ignore files Also, if I have to add an external DLL file in the bin folder now, I can't forget to put it in source control, as the bin folder is not being ignored now. The simple solution for the last bullet-point is to add the file in a libraries folder and reference it from the project. Please explain if and why putting generated output files under source control is wrong.

  Hi, I have a loosely coupled web app (one part uses PHP, the other uses WGSI). The WSGI/python framework shares the authentication with the PHP app, meaning that generally, the user should Log in via the PHP interface Now the user can access any of the WSGI pages [this part works if the user has logged in] What I want to do though, is if a user tries to access a WSGI page while not logged in (maybe from a previous bookmark), I would like to redirect him to the login page, and after logging in redirect him back to the orignal URL. I'm not very experienced with server-side programming, so here are my questions. How should I redirect the user back to the PHP login page? What should the HTTP status code be? Do I need to set any extra header information? What is a good way/best practice method to pass the original URL to the login page, and then after logging have it redirect the user back. Thank you!

• Execute C++ exe from C# form using Process.start()

  Hi, I'm trying to create a C# form app that will allow me to use all of my previous C++ programs from one central program. I'm able to open the exes with Process.start, however it does not compile the code correctly. Example code: Process.Start("C:\\Documents and Settings\\dan\\Desktop\\test.exe"); This will bring up the console and act like it's running, but it does not run like when I normally compile out of the C++ editor. Is there a startinfo variable I need to set to signify that it's a c++ program or something along that line? Also, is there any way to execute a C++ program using process.start that will allow me to pass it variables through the command line via argc and argv? Thanks

• Database design: circular references

  I have three database tables: users emails invitations Emails are linked to users by a user_id field. Invitations are also linked to users by a user_id field Emails can be created without an invitation, but every invitation must have an email. I would like to link the emails and invitations tables so it is possible to find the email for a particular invitation. However this creates a circular reference, both an invitation and an email record hold the id for the same user. Is this bad design and if so, how could I improve it? My feeling is that with use of foreign keys and good business logic, it is fine.

• Delphi Unicode String Type Stored Directly at its Address

  I want a string type that is Unicode and that stores the string directly at the adress of the variable, as is the case of the (Ansi-only) ShortString type. I mean, if I declare a S: ShortString and let S := 'My String', then, at @S, I will find the length of the string (as one byte, so the string cannot contain more than 255 characters) followed by the ANSI-encoded string itself. What I would like is a Unicode variant of this. That is, I want a string type such that, at @S, I will find a unsigned 32-bit integer containing the length of the string in bytes (or in characters, which is half the number of bytes) followed by the Unicode representation of the string. I have tried WideString, UnicodeString, and RawByteString, but they all appear only to store an adress at @S, and the actual string somewhere else (I guess this has do do with reference counting and such). I suspect that there is no built-in type to use, and that I have to come up with my own way of storing text the way I want (which actually is fun). Am I right?

• Multiple rows with a single INSERT in SQLServer 2008

  I am testing the speed of inserting multiple rows with a single INSERT statement. For example: INSERT INTO [MyTable] VALUES (5, 'dog'), (6, 'cat'), (3, 'fish) This is very fast until I pass 50 rows on a single statement, then the speed drops significantly. Inserting 10000 rows with batches of 50 take 0.9 seconds. Inserting 10000 rows with batches of 51 take 5.7 seconds. My question has two parts: Why is there such a hard performance drop at 50? Can I rely on this behavior and code my application to never send batches larger than 50? My tests were done in c++ and ADO.

• Intellij Idea 9, what folders to check into (or not check into) source control?

  Our team has just moved from Netbeans to Intellij 9 Ultimate and need to know what files/folders should typically be excluded from source control as they are not "workstation portable" ie: they reference paths that only exist on one user's computer. As far as I can tell Intellij wants to ignore most of the .idea project including .idea/artifacts/* .idea/inspectionProfiles/* .idea/copyright/* .idea/dataSources.ids .idea/dataSources.xml .idea/workspace.xml However it seems to want to check in the .iml files that exist in each module's root directory. I originally checked in the entire .idea directory via the command line which is obviously not aware of what "should" be ignored by Idea. Is the entire .idea directory typically ignored?

• __spin_lock while writing the bytes in NSOutputStream

  HI all, I have a issue that when I try to write some bytes in the outputstream, I am getting the bad access. The code is as follows : int writtenBytes = [_os write:[packetInBytes bytes] maxLength:lengthOfPacket]; where the "packetInBytes" points to NSData and "lengthOfPacket" corresponds to the data length, and _os represents the NSOutputStream. I get this issue execute my code for some 5 or more times ... I have checked all the params that i pass to the write function have its values and not nil. • How do I embed an expect script that takes in arguments into a bash shell script?

  I am writing a bash script which amongst many other things uses expect to automatically run a binary and install it by answering installer prompts. I was able to get my expect script to work fine when the expect script is called in my bash script with the command "expect $expectscriptname $Parameter". However, I want to embed the expect script into the shell script instead of having to maintain two separate script files for the job. I searched around and found that the procedure to embed expect into bash script was to declare a variable like VAR below and then echo it.: VAR=$(expect -c " #content of expect script here ") echo "$VAR" 1) I don't understand how echoing $VAR actually runs the expect script. Could anyone explain? 2) I am not sure how to pass $Parameter into VAR or to the echo statement. This is my main concern. Any ideas? Thanks.

• How do you: Symfony functional test on a secure app?

  Im trying to perform some function tests in symfony 1.4. My application is secure so the tests return 401 response codes not 200 as expected. I've tried creating a context and authentication the user prior to performing the test but to no avail. Any suggestions? Do I need to pass sfContext to the sfTestFunctional? • Address calling class [Java]

  Hello! [I am rather new to Java and Object Oriented programming] I have an abstract class Moveable with the method abstract void move() which is extended by the class Bullet and the abstract class Character, and Character is extended by the class Survivor and the class Zombie. In Survivor and Bullet the move() method doesnt require any parameters while in the class Zombie the move() method depends on the actual position of the survivor. The survivor and multiple zombies are created in the class Gui. I wanted to access the survivor in Zombie - what's the best way of doing this? In Gui i wrote a method getSurvivor() but i don't see how to access this method in Zombie? I am aware that as a workaround i could just pass a [Survivor survivor] as parameter in move() and ignore it in Bullet and Survivor, but that feels so ... bad practice. Thank you for your time!   Wwhat is your favorite vim color scheme? I haven't found a great one yet, but what I'd like, in order of priority, are: Never confuses me. For example: When matching braces are highlighted, it's easy to see where the cursor is When I've got two or more tabs open, I can read all the titles and easily tell which one is active (maybe inactive ones look faded out) Very readable, both for regular code and for highlighting It would be nice if it was attractive I found one scheme that was ALMOST perfect (peaksea), but not quite - I couldn't read the titles of non-active tabs. So on a related note: anybody know a clear reference page for tweaking the colors of specific items?

• Marshal struct to unmanaged array

  Hi guys, I have a C# struct to represent a cartesian vector, something like this: public struct Vector { private double x; private double y; private double z; //Some properties/methods } Now I have an unmanaged C dll that I need to call with P/Invoke. Some methods expect a double[3] parameter. The unmanaged C signature is something like void Cross(double a[3], double b[3], double c[3]); Is there any way to set up a P/Invoke signature so I can pass instances of my Vector struct and marshal them transparently to unmanaged double[3]? I would also need bidirectional marshaling as the unmanaged function needs to write the output to the argument array, so I guess I would need to marshal as LpArray. Any ideas? Thanks Pedro

I am currently using the wrapper ( C# syntax is provided , but it is a call from a different language ) zdiff( string ref str1, string ref str2, int range , int trim ) it calls inside str1 = GetHiDiff(@str1,1,trim) str2 = GetHiDiff(@str1,2,trim) where function GetHiDiff(s:pchar; sIndex:integer; wtrim:integer): pchar; stdcall; What it does it returns a left fragment html of str1 and a right html fragment of str2 with diffs highlighted as strings are passed by reference. Range parameter determines the size of html fragment. Not sure what trim 0 does.

• Attempt to set foreign key to nonexistent table, sf_guard_user!

  I am using SF 1.3.2 with Propel ORM on Ubuntu 9.10. I created a new SF project and simply copied the sfGuard plugin folder from a pre-existing SF 1.32 project. I manually edited the schema.yml in the new project, adding a user table that reference the the sfGuard table. When I run propel:build-sql, I got the task failed, with the error message: Attempt to set foreign key to nonexistent table, sf_guard_user! I'm not sure why this error is occurring, (the error dosent make sense to me, since the sfGuard plugin works fine with the previous project, with no changes made. what am I missing?? BTW, I have not created any apps in the project yet. I am just running the build-sql task first, to make sure that Propel has no problems with parsing my yml files etc.

  I have a simple inheritance heirarchy with MyType2 inheriting from MyType1. I have an instance of MyType1, arg, passed in as an argument to a method. If arg is an instance of MyType2, then I'd like to perform some logic, transforming the instance. My code looks something like the code below. The best I could get on server side is something like {"1"=>"[object Object]", "2"=>"[object Object]"} I tried to add JSON.stringify on client side and JSON.parse on server side, but the first resulted in {"{\"1\":{\"name\":\"client_1\",\"note\":\"bigboy\"},\"2\":{\"name\":\"client_2\",\"note\":\"smallboy\"}}"=>nil} while the latter has thrown a TypeError - can't convert Hash into String. Could anyone help, or maybe post a short snippet of correct code, please? Thank you

• LINQ query checks for null

  I have a userList, some users don't have a name (null). If I run the first LINQ query, I got an error saying "object reference not set to an instance of an object" error. var temp = (from a in userList where ((a.name == "john") && (a.name != null)) select a).ToList(); However, if I switch the order by putting the checking for null in front, then it works without throwing any error: var temp = (from a in userList where ((a.name != null) && (a.name == "john")) select a).ToList(); Why is that? If that's pure C# code (not LINQ), I think both would be the same. I don't have SQL profiler, I am just curious what will be the difference when they are being translated on SQL level.

  I'm trying to get MRT working in OpenGL to try out deferred rendering. Here's the situation as I understand it. Create 3 render buffers (for example). Two RGBA8 and one Depth32. Create an FBO. Attach render buffers to FBO. ColorAttachment0/1 for color buffers, DepthAttachment for depth buffer. Bind the FBO. Draw geometry. Send data to different attachments using gl_FragData[] in the frag shader. At this point I would want to take the data in another pass using GLSL, how can a) retrieve data from the framebuffer color attachments, b) get data from the depth component.

  Hi Guys, I am using a wrapper class A which initializes the java.util.logger static class A { public static Logger logger; public static void init(){ logger = Logger.getLogger("test"); } Now, everywhere in my program I call A.init() and then logger.log("Message+uniqid"). But recently I moved to HTTP servlets and I am having problems. Basically, If a app is already running and the logger is logging... and someone else runs the app again, the logger from the previous instance stops and starts logging for the second one. Can anyone have a solution to how I should go about fixing this static variable issue? I can pass the logger into all constructor classes but thats really tedious. Any better solution would be appreciated..

• Get XAML from WPF Custom RichTextFormat

  I've looked at other posts, but i cant seem to find something that works. I have a custom control WPF RichTextBox and would like to obtain the XAML from this control. I have tried the following //rt is the name of this particular custom richtextbox TextRange range = new TextRange(rt.Document.ContentStart, rt.Document.ContentEnd); MemoryStream stream = new MemoryStream(); range.Save(stream, DataFormats.Xaml); string xamlText = Encoding.UTF8.GetString(stream.ToArray()); return xamlText; but this doesnt seem to work :s I can access the rt.Document.Content start etc but it seems to crash there "Object Reference not set to instance of an object". I am using the richtextbox directly from the .xaml.cs so it should be initiated and so on :s. Any Ideas or other ways to get the XAML from a richtextbox pls? (i'm requiring the XAML cos i actually want to get the HTML.. if theres some other direct manner perhaps?)

• OpenGL Motion blur with the accumulation buffer in WxWidgets

  Hello, I'm trying to achieve a motion blur effect in my OpenGL application. I read somewhere this solution, using the accumulation buffer: glAccum(GL_MULT, 0.90); glAccum(GL_ACCUM, 0.10); glAccum(GL_RETURN, 1.0); glFlush(); at the end of the render loop. But nothing happens... What am I missing ? Additions after genpfault answer: Indeed I did not asked for an accumulation buffer when I initialized my context. So I tried to pass an array of attributes to the constructor of my wxGLCanvas, as described here: http://docs.wxwidgets.org/2.6/wx_wxglcanvas.html : int attribList[]={ WX_GL_RGBA , WX_GL_DOUBLEBUFFER , WX_GL_MIN_ACCUM_RED, WX_GL_MIN_ACCUM_GREEN, WX_GL_MIN_ACCUM_BLUE, 0} But all I get is a friendly Seg fault. Does someone understand how to use this ? (no problems with int attribList[]={ WX_GL_RGBA , WX_GL_DOUBLEBUFFER , 0})
